The Dark Cloud games have always been close to my heart. They were my first games, and to this day I can't think of any experience that has taken so many hours out of me and given so much in return.
Holy Crud, I thought no one in the world would ever talk about Dark Cloud again since it wasn't super well-know not even today. Glad to see theres still interest in the series. This is the first video I'm watching of yours sir Clemps. And not even two minutes of the video passed and I'm subscribed!
You'll be happy to know that I went ahead and downloaded Dark Cloud right away on my PS4 and put two hours into it and loved it. I'm continuing my playthrough today. I never grew up playing this series but I played series like Wild Arms and Suikoden and I get a charming epic adventure vibe filled with colorful characters from this game. I'll be looking forward to running home from work to play this game.
Sean Wegner Is the PSN version still bugged or has it been patched? I remember sinking a lot of time into this game only to stop at some point in the last area of the game and I never went back lol.
I actually really wish someone would bring this game to the new console generation. I loved it growing up and still play it periodically. It would be so nice to have an HD version of this game.
I first had Dark Cloud when my parents bought it for me for my birthday. I think this is where my love of RTS and town builders started. I might as well do another play though.
JohneAwesome didn't expect to see you in the comment section for a video about Dark Cloud. plz play this game on your channel and it's sequel! P.S. I'm keeping track of your Persona 5 playthrough.
The lack of town building is what ruined DC2 for me personally. I wasted so much time with that silly mechanic. Having it directly reward you for how much you listen to NPCs and do what they want really got me interested in the dialogue more than I would have. It was a neat little puzzle mechanic that seamlessly integrated with the exploration and combat elements.
I know this is 4 years late but is no one gonna talk about the Demon Shaft hidden level? Once you beat the game, you unlock a special dungeon known as Demon Shaft. It’s a 100 level dungeon that has the hardest boss in the game because there’s a certain block attack that will instantly break your weapon if you hit at the wrong time. The final boss of that dungeon is also to be hinted as Toan’s dad.
Dark Cloud certainly was rough in some places, but still a great game, and it gave us Dark Chronicles (Cloud 2). Tomohito Nishiura is great composer his soundtracks are among my favorites.
I seriously love your content man, you are hilarious. I don't care how long it takes for your reviews to come out, I'll always keep my eyes peeled for a Clemps video.
going to replay dark cloud, played it as a early teen. Thought i would watch a review to get me in the mood. "GET YOUR MINGE OFF THAT CHILD" alright this guy is pretty cool, found a new channel to Sub.
A game in which to save the world you must build the truth, the memories of the villain who is also the hero in a world which you rebuild better,in a world which relies on you. Thank you for your comprehensive review of one of my favorite games on any console, not just the PS2.
Great video - I'm glad you enjoyed the game overall and am always glad to see interest about one of my favorite titles! One small nitpick (I'm sorry, I hate myself for doing this) - at 14:05 when you're talking about the crufty thirst system, both your Player health and Weapon health are going down, since you're also attacking. I'm aware that you know how the game works(thirst only impacts Player health), but that tiny 3 second clip was a little deceptive, since the weapon health was also going down from attacking. Obviously not a big deal, but a clip from 2 seconds prior would have been more illustrative to your point.
I feel explaining the entire story in the way you did somewhat detracts from it; it's really impossible to summarise a plot like this without it sounding sillier than it feels while experiencing it, and the way the game reveals the final bits of story with the memories and gorgeous art makes it a lot stronger. Not to mention the *incredible* music which is what has made the game stick in my memory all these years. Also, you forgot to mention the entire gimmick of the final dungeon! Nonetheless, I'm delighted to see this old classic get more exposure. It's horrifically dated and hasn't aged a tenth as well as the sequel, but it's still worth remembering.
I'm so happy i found this video. I love Dark Cloud and your analysis was just perfect... Gave me a great nostalgia blast and a strong desire to go back to play it again! :D
I was introduced to your channel a few days ago by a friend, and I just wanted to say thanks for you work in these videos. You cover a lot of the types of games I seemed to love when growing up (for a lot of the same overall reasons), and I enjoy your humor & interjections a bunch, as well as your analysis on pros and cons of these somewhat-old-by-today's-standards-titles. Looking forward to everything you upload, as I'm sure I've dabbled in quite a few of them! So yeah - thanks man, these are a joy to watch! Also: Shoutout to Inverted Camera bros~
Thanks for this video! Dark Cloud is my entire childhood. I would look forward to playing it when I got home from school, and I have it on the PS4 now. I must have beat this game like 5 times now. It's nice to see RUclipsrs do a review of this from a fresh pair of eyes not influenced by nostalgia.
Thank you so much for doin' this title Clemps! I just got into your videos and Dark Cloud was my very first RPG on my PS2 so this nostalgia is sooooooooooooooooo good :'D
Man your videos are so good. Does anyone say that? Your videos are just such a joy to watch, and I'm elated every time a new update comes under the CLEMPS name. I really appreciate that they cover lesser known, but equally interesting materials that alot of similar channels don't really bother with.
I'm glad you're covering these games, dude. These games are from my childhood and them being on the ps4 made it easy as all heck to go back and play them again. Sure enough around when I start playing again you post this video.
Thank you so much for covering this. I was very curious about this game, but hardly any YT videos covered it properly. Waiting for your DC2 video. Keep up the good work, man
I love your channel so fucking much, keep it up man your reviews are fantastic and the style in which you do it has just the right amount of humor without coming off as forced or obnoxious like a lot of reviewers. You just nail it all aspects and keep getting better. Can't wait to watch the DC2 one.
The fact that you covered this game earned a sub from me. I however was not expecting the best review of this game I think I'll ever see. This game was very important to me and you did a good job covering all there was to say about it.
Good review, you are pretty funny lol.... Dark Cloud was one of the first games I got for my PS2 and def one of my favorite "hidden gems" for that system. It had a nice hybrid of different gaming elements that made it a lot of fun. The dungeon crawler, collect loot action rpg style is one of my favorites, and the sim city world building aspect was a nice visual way to feel progression as well as adding a puzzle solving element in trying to get the 100% perfect setup. Also, I totally didn't notice all the perverted stuff they snuck into those cutscenes as a kid lol, dunno how I missed those. You kinda glanced over the weapon crafting aspect, but that was my biggest draw to the game... I hadn't really seen this type of crafting/customization for your weapons in other games I played so it was fun and addictive to collect gems and keep boosting my weapon stats to see what it would evolve into. The new and different visual look of sword evolutions kept it interesting, and my first playthru I had no idea what to expect so it was exciting to see what I would get. Later on tho I would use a guide to aim for the sword I thought looked coolest or had the best stats (I think it was the Chronicle sword maybe). Another fun little addition that I didn't see mentioned was the fishing minigame, which was basic but still had a bit of depth to it with the types of lure you used, where you fished, what time, and actual skill of hooking and reeling the fish in. It was like the fishing in Zelda but way better, and a nice distraction from the main game. You could also get a lot of useful items and gems to upgrade ur weapon from fishing, and there was even a few rare fish that would give better rewards, including a special sword (Baron Gedon I think was the name) that was actually pretty strong. Overall a great game, and the sequel improved on almost everything. Level 5 in general makes great games and I wished they had continued this type of game more... as far as I know, there was a game called "Rogue Galaxy" after DC2 which was similar but that was it, and while other games may have a certain aspect like the crafting system or the simworldbuilding, there isn't one with everything all in one. I hope we get another sequel or similar game eventually. Edit: I thought I would add tho that if anyone is a fan of this series and interested in something similar but on an even older system, the SNES has a trilogy of games with very similar concepts called "Terranigma". Its considered the spiritual predecessor of the dark cloud series and they are all pretty good and worth exploring, gameplay is action rpgish (like secret of mana I suppose) with worldbuilding sim elements mixed in.
I'm so happy you did this, thank you, Dark Cloud and Dark Cloud 2 were like the staple points of my childhood. I hope you one day can do Dark Cloud 2 so I can finally die of happiness that my favorite series get attention
ive been playing dark cloud 2 here and there for years and im thankful i can finally at least understand the storyline of dark cloud 1 without having to go through the entire game and hating every second of it. thank you for making this bearable
Clempsy I love your videos and game breakdowns, your streams when I catch them are lots of fun to be in and you are such a sweety! Keep up the amazing work!
4:54 - Is now my go to reaction gif to seeing any Shota in anime. I remember playing a demo of this game back when I was young but never got a chance to play it fully. Always regretted it as it was right up my alley.
I grew up with a sega genesis. Played all the sonic games even the spinoff ones. I didn't get a new console till the PS2 and it came with this game. I hadn't played Mario (except the nes version at my grandpas) I hadn't played 3d Zelda or any final fantasy game. Needless to say this game enthralled me. I spent countless hours on the town building semi-puzzle mechanics and happily read every line of dialogue from every npc to get the best rating possible and build the world for me that much more. I also beat the 100 floor tower side quest. This is one of less than half a dozen games I completed front to back and I didn't regret a single second of it. I'm so glad to see someone review this without nostalgia goggles to remind me why it is exactly that made me love this game so much and let me know it's not my literal first 3d and rpg game ever bias clouding (get it?) my judgement of this game.
This is one of those games that filled up my youth. I lived in the middle of nowhere and had few friends. Once I got a job and a car, I would spend my afternoons driving to the nearby town to frequent the local used game shop. Every weekend I got myself a different title from the rack for fifteen bucks or so and played until the wee hours of the morning. It really solidified just how great the PS2 era was. I probably went through a hundred games on that system over the course of several years.
I had this game as a kid and never beat it, I got frustrated with the water and weapon system and stopped playing it. Hearing the music and seeing all of those characters again really brought a wave of great nostalgia to me, thanks for that this was a great review.
I was having the most stressful day I've had in a long time. Like, crying because I'm a sensitive baby stressful. Opened up the RUclips app, top of the list is Clemps. First 50 seconds promises a KH breakdown. This is exactly what I needed.
3 minutes in and I've laughed like crazy a few times already, man I missed your work (wish is entirely my fault for having a huge backlog of videos) CLEMPS YOU DA BEST MAN!!! 💚
YES YES YES DARK CLOUD!!!!!! This was my absolute FAVORITE ps2 game! I havent heard a single person talk about it though so I was starting to feel like I was the only one that remembered it
This video got recommended to me due to my love of the Dark Cloud series. Glad you discovered this game, not many people have seemed to play it when it came out for PS2. Check out Dark Cloud 2 as well, it improves on a ton of the aspects from the original.
A hidden feature don't think many know about, is not using recovery items in dungeons. Whilst in a dungeon the use of recovery items, such as, Water, Health, repair powders, etc. Actually decrease the chance you'll find good stuff, a sort of risk vs reward scenario. Which means you'll have to be extra careful to not die if you want to be rewarded with good loot.
~When ever my clemps goes away, i cry another tear that day. But when he appears around again, the joy i feel brings me to tears~ Love you Clemps please keep it up my friend :)
I remember renting this at a store when I was super young, saw the dude in the intro get eaten by the big purple monster, proceeded to nope away from the game and never play it
Dark Cloud 2 was one of my first PS2 games and it absolutely blew me away as a kid. I later played Dark Cloud 1 and couldn't deal with the combat and dungeon design. These games get nowhere near the amount of love they deserve, especially Dark Cloud 2 which improved so much on everything in the first game! Also the artstyle and character design is fucking awesome!
Oh? You're gonna cover kingdom hearts? yes! my body has never beem more ready. -until you talk about final fantasy 9- Also please talk about the issuses in white knight chronicles
I played a white knight chronicles on PSP because it got me curious. This was really really weird, I did not like it at all. But it was years ago and not a major entry, so I wonder how the other games are?
I'd say don't bother not only is it not worth the money but the story and characters are very lackluster. I won't say more just in case clemps feels like explaining in a video asp
This game needs more love. I've finished it four times and I love it to death. BTW GORO'S POWER ATTACK HAS ENOUGH INVINCIBILITY FRAMES TO AVOID THE FINAL BOSS'S UNBLOCKABLE ATTACK JUS NB NB NB SHARE TO SAVE A LIFE
I loved this game back in the day I even bought it recently. I played this game back when my friend bought it and kingdom hearts. Boy that was a good jrpg day!
Goddamn, I can't believe I skipped out on this game when I had a PS2. I'll definitely pick this up if they ever fix the PS4 port. Can't wait to see your FF9 and KH retrospectives!
"It's not the hardest boss I've ever thought" fam u beat every drakengard 1 ending there's no boss stopping u
Demi-Fiend in Digital Devil Saga: Allow me to introduce myself.

Is the PSN version still bugged or has it been patched? I remember sinking a lot of time into this game only to stop at some point in the last area of the game and I never went back lol.
BleedForTheWorld I'm only past the first dungeon but so far I haven't seen any bugs or glitches.
I actually really wish someone would bring this game to the new console generation. I loved it growing up and still play it periodically. It would be so nice to have an HD version of this game.
Thesakuraharona he is playing the hd remaster on ps4. Its $15 usd...totally worth it

Madeline Woof I see what you did there lol
This is one of my all time favorite games. Thank you for taking the time to review it. But you did forget to mention the....DEMON SHAFT
Go buy the Dark Cloud games.
Go show Sony it's worth it, cause the Creator wants to make another but sony is apprehensive and currently own the IP.
I have the original two games since not long after they came out so already done
God I would KILL for that. These games have so much charm. I hope I'm happily surprised one day. I wonder if the ps4 port still sucks though...
@@corgipants3840 they still aren't great
The dark cloud 2 emulator is not HORRIBLE, but it still has parts where it just glitches out
A Furry Gaymer I’ve had more luck on the PC using pcsx 2 than my friend did on the PS4.
For dark cloud 2 that is
@@killerkitten7534 I played on both, both had issues on pcsx2, but not NEARLY as bad as dark cloud 1 on the PS4.
10 year old me was never going to be ready for Pumpkin-Panty fortune telling
I wonder when Clemp's next video is up, turn around and here it is
JohneAwesome Never played DC1, but you're in for a treat with the second game!
I first had Dark Cloud when my parents bought it for me for my birthday. I think this is where my love of RTS and town builders started. I might as well do another play though.

Another megaten fan
The moment the Dark Cloud theme music started playing I was transported to the past in an instant, and it was beautiful.
WHY ARE YOU LITERALLY IN MY HEAD. I OWNED DARK CLOUD AS A KID.
Every time I watch this video my childhood comes running back to me. I love Dark Cloud and Dark Cloud 2
I feel this altho I wish the games would get a full remake for all consoles
Dark cloud

You are making me want to try this game, I think I'll buy it soon. Great video !

the game is "patronizing" because you hit every note perfectly, and there's a reward in each Duel if you hit every one with "COOL!"
thank you for covering this, dark cloud 2 is my absolute favorite game of all time
Aw man I adored this game as a kid!! It's so nice to see someone talk about it. It's still one of my favorites
The storybook intro is probably still my favorite opening to a game, the music makes it.
This is one of my glorious childhood that deserve more notice and attention and such like with other popular games.
I fell in love with your breakdowns of all these oddball games! Fantastic content
So glad Clemps is also doing Dark Cloud 2/Dark Chronicle. Played it a bunch when I was a wee-lad
Honeslty, it's OST is still among my favorites of all time, probably even in my top 5.
The music is freaking incredible
This is random and 100% not going to happen BUT...
Dark Cloud remastered or even just emu-ported to PS VITA would be so beautiful.
Nick You it happen on ps4

I was having the most stressful day I've had in a long time. Like, crying because I'm a sensitive baby stressful. Opened up the RUclips app, top of the list is Clemps. First 50 seconds promises a KH breakdown.
This is exactly what I needed.
3 minutes in and I've laughed like crazy a few times already, man I missed your work (wish is entirely my fault for having a huge backlog of videos) CLEMPS YOU DA BEST MAN!!! 💚
I love Dark Chronicle, one of the first action Jrpgs i played. It was like a magical experience.
YES YES YES DARK CLOUD!!!!!! This was my absolute FAVORITE ps2 game! I havent heard a single person talk about it though so I was starting to feel like I was the only one that remembered it
Awwww yeah! I remember this game from back in the day, and God did I love it and its sequel
This video got recommended to me due to my love of the Dark Cloud series. Glad you discovered this game, not many people have seemed to play it when it came out for PS2. Check out Dark Cloud 2 as well, it improves on a ton of the aspects from the original.
Dark chronicle was my jam. So much fun.
This was my first ps2 game that i got when the ps2 came out and i love it! Ive always thot its been very underrated...
Keep up the amazing work, you cheeky little Clempington!
~When ever my clemps goes away, i cry another tear that day.
But when he appears around again, the joy i feel brings me to tears~
Love you Clemps please keep it up my friend :)

"toan can't jump it, however, shao kahn"
I remember renting this at a store when I was super young, saw the dude in the intro get eaten by the big purple monster, proceeded to nope away from the game and never play it
Dark Cloud 2 was one of my first PS2 games and it absolutely blew me away as a kid. I later played Dark Cloud 1 and couldn't deal with the combat and dungeon design. These games get nowhere near the amount of love they deserve, especially Dark Cloud 2 which improved so much on everything in the first game! Also the artstyle and character design is fucking awesome!
I know it's not related, but holy shit your intro is so juicy and cool, i love it so much!
"GET YOUR MINGE OFF THAT CHILD!"
Can guarantee you'll fall in love with Dark Chronicles
This gameplay you mentioned, where you use the characters for different puzzles, reminds me a lot of the recent game, Shiness!
Ahh, Dark Cloud, this game was my child hood.
I learned how to play the violin just so I could play that opening theme, I loved it so much!
I REMEMBER THIS GAME!!
I looked it up and somehow this video was made 11 HOURS ago. PERFECT timing, my d00d
+1 sub 4 u
this shit was so damn weird butcha know
anime weebs need to be nuked
"Each dungeon contains 15-25 floors"
Looks like someone needs to try the post-game dungeon, The Demon Shaft. 100 floors of pure pain.
Rogue Galaxy had the Ghost Ship and G.U. Redemption had the Forest of Pain. I love long-ass bonus dungeons.
Oh? You're gonna cover kingdom hearts?
yes! my body has never beem more ready. -until you talk about final fantasy 9-
Also please talk about the issuses in white knight chronicles
I played a white knight chronicles on PSP because it got me curious. This was really really weird, I did not like it at all. But it was years ago and not a major entry, so I wonder how the other games are?
I'd say don't bother not only is it not worth the money but the story and characters are very lackluster.
I won't say more just in case clemps feels like explaining in a video asp
This game needs more love. I've finished it four times and I love it to death.
BTW GORO'S POWER ATTACK HAS ENOUGH INVINCIBILITY FRAMES TO AVOID THE FINAL BOSS'S UNBLOCKABLE ATTACK JUS NB NB NB SHARE TO SAVE A LIFE
I never used Goro on any pay through lol. Toan > Xiao > Ruby > Asmond for the win.
Damn I never used Goro at all. I've played this game over and over and I hated him always. All the limited floors for him I just used bombs 🤣
Dark clouds 3!! I want 😭
Formidable Gamer same!
Me to hoping it does come
A remaster would be enough to mend my soul
Jacob Cordova that would be great but we need to show this game more sales to popular it back.
Nice video.
Huge DC fan myself. Can't wait to hear you talk about DC2, recently finished it, was pretty great.
Imagine this game being rebuilt on a modern engine and fleshed out with todays video gaming standards. I would kill for it.
I think it’s on PS4 now
Discovered this video today and it just turned exactly 3 years old
One if my most favorite games ever. NEED DARK CLOUD 3
