@@tw1nn319 Because substitution is a replacement of one word for another, not a rearranging of order. I think the word you’re looking for is “transpose” or “swap” or “exchange.” A substitution can replace a word in a sentence with any other word in the lexicon, similar to how you can substitute an ingredient in a recipe for another, which would mean replacing the ingredient with another (e.g. to avoid allergies). Unless you’re just being a troll, in which case you can go pound sand.

@@ramrod132 100pc. I think sometimes we hold refs to a super human standard, the greatest athletes in the world will have off days and we'll shrug and say "what can you do". A ump tho has a bad day it's "it's all rigged or his just terrible and should be fired right now"
I think it's the union over protecting the umpires, like here we see he's a person with normal problems. That time the umpire messed up the perfect game and he came out and apologised and said he messed up, everyone appreciated it and forgave him.

    • @ramrod132

@@garydagg9112 Absolutely. It's easy to talk shit about someone not being perfect, but at the end of the day, they are human too and none of us is perfect.
That's not an excuse to not try to be better, and if you're consistently bad at your job something needs to change, but if you're occasionally marginally off on a split second judgement call that is understandable.

Every single time I’ve witnessed an umpire admit he missed a call during the game (other than not having the right angle or a different interpretation of a grey area in the rules) the coaches always argue later in the game when they want a close call by saying something to the effect of “you admitted you missed that one before, so why can’t the same thing be true now too.” Also, if you’re admitting you missed a call, coaches will inevitably get on you to change the call. So either you make that coach mad and say you won’t change the call you just admitted was wrong, or you make the other coach mad by changing the call that favored him. All roads lead to escalating the situation.

This missed all the pitches by Mariners pitches that were on the edge of the zone and should have been called strikes that the Ump called a ball. @@CubeInspectorit sounds all fine and dandy, but if you’ve ever been an umpire you know that if you admit you missed one call, it’s just ammo for coaches to use for the next close call that they want to go their way. That’s why the first thing they teach you in clinics is to be decisive and confident in your calls, even if you’re unsure. I see it all the time with newer umpires where coaches get on indecisive umpires like flies on manure and they just get bullied and abused the entire game.
