Walker is the pitching coach. He's the genius behind Robbie Ray slashing his walk rate by just throwing fastballs at the middle of the zone, and turn into a Cy Young favorite.
In 1973 the Miami Dolphins were playing the Raiders at a neutral site in Berkeley California. Not sure why the game was moved. My guess it was because Berkeley held 10,000 more seats than the Oakland Colosseum. Anyway because of this both teams had to have their Saturday walkthrough at the stadium. The Raiders practiced first. When the Dolphins arrived, a staffer found a Raiders playbook complete with the game plan and the signal and audible key chart. The staffer took the book to Shula who never opened it and threw it away. The Dolphins lost that game. But later beat the Raiders in the AFC Championship Game. Just because something is not illegal doesn’t make it right. Kiermeier should have left the paper on the ground where he found it.
Jomboy is the only baseball media I watch. I live in France, I have time for base ball games but damn a real story about stealing the plans, with lots of cameras on the thief while someone try’s to lip read it and explain it is great entertainment.
"if it was that important to you guys you shouldn't have dropped it in the first place." honestly, it's pretty weak that teams are even allowed to bring these cards onto the field and if we're lucky, this incident would scare teams out of relying on them so much. But as it is, I like that the advantage of having them can be offset by the risk of it falling into enemy hands like this.
The jays should make fake cards they could intentionally drop next time. If the opportunity to psyche the other team out or just trolling to get in their heads.
I like how Joe West was just like, "you gotta go." the chillest ejection I've ever seen I think lol. As for remember signs and whatnot, I know when I played there wasn't as much info given to us, but we went over that stuff every practice and every time before game, shit was engraved into our memory.
Yeah that’s the thing, you had to take note cards out there with you? Like you couldn’t see who was due up that inning and cram for the test while you’re chilling in the dugout?
howdareyou41 I feel like that’s going to be the norm going forward. It’s such a unique situation that I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t encoded. I’m not a Rays fan or a Blue Jays fan so I have no reason to take a side. But I just think this situation is so unique that I don’t really hold anything against Kiermaier for it. I think he could have chosen his words a little more wisely, but I don’t think anything less of him. Now that someone has done it, we know where the league stands.
@@grega490 Exactly. I usually just ask myself how I'd react if someone I liked did it, if a jay took the card I would support it. I wouldn't support lying about it though. I would hope they'd just say "of course we took it, we're trying to win, we think our fans will appreciate that" And if a jay took it and then lied about it, I'd expect him to get plunked.
As a Jays fan who hates Joe West, I’m thankful he did it calmly and not to make a big scene of it. His strike zone is horrible though. Probably a good thing he is retiring.
That was a terrible reference. This is a baseball game. they are not fighting to save their country, protecting themselves from tyranny, or taking down evil.
Wish he would’ve just owned that he swiped the scouting report. Been like “hey, i didn’t break into anywhere, didn’t reach into his arm band to grab it. It was on the ground, i picked it up. Any guy on the blue jays wouldve done the same thing. Don’t want me to grab the scouting report? Secure it better.”
Yea I mean it's not a big deal why not just own it. Any team worth half a damn does their own scouting reports on their own team to begin with so vast majority of that info is probably useless anyways. As isn't all that's really on that sheet is just what pitches a guy does or doesn't hit well and what locations he hits the ball well in and what locations he doesn't. So I'm pretty sure every team in the league already has that info on their own players seeing how you can just go to a shit ton of websites and find such info without even having to do any work yourself. So if that sheet says hey this player can't fastballs up in the zone. Then knowing that fact isn't gonna help them any bit as he already knows he struggles to do just that so knowing a team is gonna try and throw fastballs up in the zone isn't gonna help him at all. Same if a certain hitter struggles to hit or lay off breaking pitches. That is info they already know so learning the other teams know such a thing isn't magically gonna make them a better hitter on breaking balls or help them to layoff them.
Yeah the "I didn't look at it" is BS and such a red herring. Of course he didn't, he gave it to the manager/coaches who would then decide how to use it. "I thought it was mine" yeah ok guy I'm thinking he got plunked for not owning up to it, not for taking it.
Yeah I mean when I saw this happen before he said anything on the matter I thought “what’s the big deal?”. I think the real crime was how he handled it after. If he chose his words wisely he may have not gotten drilled in the back. What rubbed me off the wrong way was when he said “I’m over it.” He’s the one who did something he probably shouldn’t have done. Why is he acting like the victim? What is there for him to get over? If that particular quote played any role in the decision to drill him then I can’t really blame the Blue Jays for that.
So glad to see Jomboy getting such massive attention. Started watching him about a year before the Astros scandal and I love seeing him get the credit he deserves.
He didn’t steal anything! The feeble minded Cather dropped it. Bench, Boone, Matheny, or Ausmus didn’t need flash cards they memorized that shit. If you gotta use cheat sheets keep up with the damn things.
@@astropastel Taking something that you know doesn't belong to you, and in fact you know belongs to someone or something else is the definition of stealing. Whether that something is easily accessible is irrelevant to whether or not it is stealing. It absolutely was.

Pete Walker is the Jays longtime pitching coach...often regarded as one of the better pitching coaches in the game, using examples like Robbie Ray and J.A. Happ as some of his best work.

“What playbook? I don’t know what you’re talking about”
In 1973 the Miami Dolphins were playing the Raiders at a neutral site in Berkeley California. Kiermeier should have left the paper on the ground where he found it.

these "data cards" should be encoded, just like giving signs, why wouldn't it be coded on the card?
howdareyou41 I feel like that’s going to be the norm going forward.
Literally dropped IN HIS LAP
I don't agree with all of this, I would have liked him growing a pair when asked about it though.
