I feel like the idea that its a galactic scale synapse creature is a possibility. The hive fleets seem pretty coordinated including that other fleets leave feeder worlds for Kronos as Hive Fleet Kronos is an anti chaos fleet and has biomass problems. Smaller synapse creatures talk to bigger ones, which talk to hive ships, which talk to Tiamat's mega structure which possibly talks to an array elsewhere of similar structures or the real hivemind?
The lore has always had that the Tyrannids struggle when matched against other factions allying together (e.g. Orks in close combat + Astra Militarum artillery bombardments) And that the reason the Tyrannids don't just give their troops everything, is the massive increased biomass costs. Though if they can turtle up and send bombardment elsewhere, that would probably be a huge problem
I think a scenario where the tyranids fight each other with separate hive minds is one of few scenarios that the imperium can survive. Or the necrons start using their OP tech to stop them.
The only time hive fleets fight one a other is when 2 different fleets enter the sane system for the same meal and even then it isn't 2 different hive minds they are playing whoever is more evolved and wins the fight deserves the meal and thus ensuring the continued evolution of the race towards better predation. There isnt more than 1 hivemind it will simply eat left over bits that get disconnected or are mostly destroyed in the case of hydra or like i said previously to see which hivefleet is better and thus more deserving of continuing on.

It could also be more like a astronomicon rather than a ferros beacon, acting as a giant synapse node and allowing it excert control over a much larger area of space
The mythological Tiamat was the mother of monsters and the goddess of primordial chaos, who was eventually slain by Marduk, the god of storms. Marduk clove Tiamat in half and formed the material world from her corpse. My personal favorite theory is that Tiamet WAS the greater hive mind, the greater will of the Tyranids as a whole; but the Emperor defeated and killed it. Tiamet is trying to recover and regrow the greater hive mind; while the other Hive Fleets are having essentially a succession crisis with each trying to become the greater will and subsume all the others. They're hunting for Tiamet, but the Spire is there to hide the location of the wounded greater hive mind (or move it around). That said? I feel like these are the most likely possibilities for what's actually going on: 1) Games Workshop is keeping the door open, they're currently just building a thing because "just because" and won't commit to what it is until they need to write themselves out of the next Black Crusade. 2) The Tyranids are a physical Chaos god, they recognize the threat of the other Chaos Gods and the Tiamet Spire is a weapon to kill, subvert, or consume Chaos. 3) The Tyranids are just as affected by the Warp as other creatures, which means they need their own Astronomican. Presumably, if they can calm the Chaos in the warp or have a beacon to guide them, their FTL method could be made faster.
Perhaps a hive fleet that utilises more in the way of hit and run tactics and targets dormant tomb worlds. Less swarming in with overwhelming numbers and instead more intelligent bioforms engineered for very fast and precise strikes against key targets
Raveners, mawlocs, and ripper swarms, but bred to resist Gauss and using more heavily acidic weaponry. Would love to see them bring back war clans for orks, hive fleets for tyranids, etc... for tabletop
@@firedrake110uh no, there is no resisting Guass Flayers. They rip apart molecular bonds, getting hit by those is game over, doesn't matter if it's a Guardsman or a Primarch, much less a Tyranid.

Its either to warp in the heart of the tyranids outside the galaxy, or its a giant transmitter that will bring EVERY tyranid in the literal universe towards the Milky Way.
I can only wish it'll go that way. But the two seem to think verrry differently when it comes to how the Imperium should be run. Ultimately, they'll of course be united against any xenos, but there'll be some drama for sho
Could just be a overmind. One giant psionic abomination that unifies all the tendrils working at cross purposes and turns all tyranid fleets, from norn queen to ripper, into one singular force.
Jup, stealing from starcraft I would call it a Cerebrate. A submind of the hivemind to organize this galaxies 'nids. Like a super synapse creature. Perhaps the horrors we see is just a hivemind with a bad connection. Get an agent with good connection in there and boom we feed ^^ Probably... hopefully it takes a while to gestate...
My personal theory: the entire tyranid race have a hive mind, which is only as coordinated as the presence of higher synapse creatures allow. At its most potent, this hive mind may be the single most powerful psychic entity or god-being in the setting. All this being true, my theory is twofold: the megastructure exists to act as a galaxy wide hive mind coordination creature, directing every other hive fleet is inside, and that creature is, in essence, an all powerful omni-norn queen. Basically, there's a norn queen that is capable of directing the entire species galaxy wide and it's psychic power is enough to kill lesser psychic organisms that move too close.
Thing is, the Tyranids could take most planets by simply dumping a few quadrillion rippers on each one. The planetary forces would be outnumbered by millions to one, and the 'Nids could bypass them and target the plant life, animal life, and unprotected inhabitants. Then they could build bioforms capable of surviving in a vacuum, siphon off the planetary atmosphere, and finish off the remaining forces who can no longer breathe.
The tech priests would like to inform you that oxygen is for weakling idiots who don't get cybernetics and flamethrower or mass aoe weapons are effective at dealing with ripper swarms.
42:58 So basically the psi-disrupter that was used against the Zerg in Starcraft. That actually makes me wonder, was the psi-disrupter a plot idea BEFORE the deal between Blizzard and GW fell through? If so, then that idea could be considered to be a revival of an older idea for the Tyranids rather than being a potentially stol- I mean, INSPIRED idea.
I have loosely avoided WH40K for a while but your channel has been great for me to listen to and get ramped up to join in the full enjoyment of it. Thank you
I think the most interesting theories are it is a weapon against whatever is chasing them or a "host" for the hivemind, like a backup server or bunker. A teleportation device or web way siege engine would just be too much considering the never ending numbers coming into the galaxy.
The structure is, or will be, an intergalactic neural link with the rest of the Tyranid gestalt throughout the universe. -It is confirmed that the different Tyrannid hive fleets converged on the Milky Way from different vectors, implying they are being sourced from different galaxies. -With the assumption of Tyrannids being an intergalactic gestalt, it would stand to reason that the gestalt must have some means of communication with its constituent parts across the universe, to bring them into the greater "whole" of the hive mind. -Hive Fleet Tiamat acting defensively, with behavior completely atypical for every other Tyrannid hive, in addition to other Tyrannids giving them leave to do so, means their purpose is strategy, not instinct, meaning that the effort placed on maintaining and growing this structure is a priority for *every* Tyrannid in the galaxy, and subsequently an essential part of their war goals. This makes it the most critical Tyrannid target for every species in the galaxy to attack.
I'm curious where GW take the Tyranids now that the story is moving forwards. I hope it's well thought out and gives some texture to the wider Tyranid lore. It seems like some planning has gone into the Tiamet storyline.
Same! They are/is an escaped old one gone crazy by the trauma or maybe just cold. Reseeding galaxy seems like their style and preparing to kick necrons. After necrons think 'They only target living... ' Boom all tyranids simultaneously attack necrons in the nuts. That's why silent king is scared. The second war in heavens! Tyranids vs necrons and all races combined.
I think the easiest answer to the question of what the tyrranid structure is would be that it is a baby hivemind. It is part of the tyrranid lifecycle. The full tyrranid hivemind organism, including all the tendrils, seeds a troublesome galaxy with an egg of sorts. Once that egg matures and eventually hatches, the hivemind could go on towards other parts of the universe to devour other galaxies, and the newborn can stay and mature further nom-nomming the galaxy and striking out in a few millennia once it picked these stars clean.
I really think that GW should go the route of seperate Hive Minds, because although scary asf, one singular will/god is just too OP. There is nothing they can do with the Tyranids from a narrative perspective. And the only hope of any race in 40K would be to create some super weapon that works on the Hive Mind, but if it is a singular will, that would just undo the Tyranids as a treath. So GW seems stuck with a race, that they cant really expand upon, and that is completely either/or when it comes to its narrative. Now if there were different and competing Hive Minds, then you can get some interesting stories, some interesting tacticts used against them, and a lot more flavour when it comes to the models and motivation of the Tyranids as a whole!
Good Gods, by the Emperor, they're making a Brethen Moon. Kind of cool though since Tyranids do have units specialized in slaying Chaos. So the idea that maybe Hive Fleet Tiamat has been communicating through the warp to attract lesser willed Chaos is pretty chilling.
Interesting Thought: in the Xeelee Sequence franchise, there exist the Xeelee, who are the "Masters of Baryonic (conventional) Matter" and the Photino Birds, who are the "Masters of Dark Matter." So perhaps if the Tyranids are fleeing, they're fleeing some sort of hypothetical "Dark Matter Entity(ies)" that they haven’t figured out how to fight yet. Hence why they consume and evolve, and hence why they need to expand their numbers so rapidly. It's probably not true, but the "Dark Matter Entity" threat isn't as implausible as one might think. There exist a vapor-like xenos who puppet-and-consume human vessels because they're horrified of some unknown threat. In addition to "eating" their human hosts, they also use them to hide, and they’ll stick to their territories and defend them fiercely... except every now and then, they’ll abruptly freak the fuck out and fly away from the planet in pants-soiling terror. The Inquisition as of yet had no idea why, or what it is they're afraid of, though they’re pretty sure daemons aren't involved this time. In any case, a theoretical "Dark Matter" faction could be an interesting addition/enemy for the lore, perhaps representing the more Lovecraftian Cosmic WTFness that has been a little lacking in representation. (Chaos has those elements, as do the Tyranids, but neither really hit the full "alien to our reality" feel quite that well. The latter is a Biological Devouring Swarm Hive Mind, the former is the Legions of Hell. Both are great, of course, but both are dabblers in the Cosmic Horror genre, at least in general presentation.)
Well hypothetically let's say tiamat was here first and needed to just lay low. What better way to do that than have a bunch of invasions somewhere else to keep people distracted till you can get a foothold. Attack your enemy where he is not . Sun Tzu .

Bugs to a light, simple but good theory
Tyranids have always felt like a bigger threat than the imperium is aware of.
Tyranids had their own heresy with Tiamat
It occurs to me that if I wanted an infinite amount of biomass I'd find a way to filter the energy of the warp directly into growing biomass.
At the very least, it could grow by consuming organic and non-organic material, which can be made into organic from comets, asteroids, and interstellar medium. There is far more water and organic molecules in the Oort cloud, for instance, than on Earth.
Someone mentioned farming earlier, I comented that they generally basically strip everything bioavailable, this may be something
Yeah but Daemons know how to control warp energy very well hence why the moment you even touch the stuff you're playing a long game against a malignant eternity that you will lose. Then again, an exclusive Tyranid vs Chaos scenario would be interesting since it's pure amterium vs immaterium
@@dretchlord873I don’t think the chaos gods can really fuck with the Nids much. There’s nothing to temp them with and the hive mind can suppress psychic manifestations. AFAIK there’s zero cases of chaos corruption in Tyranids. The bugs may be the ultimate answer to chaos.
Has Constantine Valdor ever fought the Tyranids? I wonder what he would learn with the Apollonian Spear. Thoughts?
if memory serves that spear shows insights into the character of whoever it stabs to the wielder, so arguably Valdor might not learn anything from the spear
@@shadowwarrior1003 Yeah you could potentially be right. However, I like to imagine that if the 'Nid is still connected to the Hivemind, then the spear would show Valdor the scale of the Hivemind's reach. If a 'Nid is disconnected and reverted back to their feral state, then maybe all he sees is hunger.
Similarly to kroot eating nids, it would probably cause him extreme psychic pain
Not that we know of!

Everyone else, staring at those giant horrific edifices: What in the goddamn is that?!
The Tyranids: Space gun. Lining them up, gonna shoot the gods.
My head cannon is that the tyranids came across a necron world that had partial active black stone pylons on it. The tyranids realised what the pylons where for and saw an opportunity to perhaps take it further to completion
Orks in close combat + Astra Militarum artillery bombardments)
And that the reason the Tyrannids don't just give their troops everything, is the massive increased biomass costs.
Though if they can turtle up and send bombardment elsewhere, that would probably be a huge problem
Exactly the reason they use Genestealers to attack from within.
You mean the tech that allows them to simply blink stars and planets out of existence? Yeah, that could work.
@@edwhatshisname3562well crons have stilling tech for calming the warp, this also impacts the hive mind.its one reason a number of fleets have hastily avoided cron space
It would be nice to see other Primarch's popping up against the massive Tyranid threat.
I would eve like the Chaos Primarchs to take a stand, personally.
Soon enough. They are all coming back, you’ll just have to wait.
Imagine the hive mind when it gets it hands on literal primarch dna...
My God, thats Konrad Curzes music ?!?!?
Personally, I think The Lion would be the best pick to fight them.
Multiple hive fleets arrive at the galaxy at once??
Me: " open the dark age of technology vaults"
It's actually more straightforward than you might think. With the Overlord slain, the remaining cerebrates are attempting to merge in order to regain control over the biomass at large.
So glad to have more sandman content. Hive fleet Tiamet is very intriguing.
Im kind of surprised no one has suggested this but what if the planet is a bioship yard? We still have no idea where or how theyre made and if they were made on world you would need a way to get them up to escape velocity, hence psychic rail gun to yeet them into space?
Wonder if Nurgle could wipe out a hive fleet with a well-made concoction of pestilent plagues meant to ravage biomass.
Nurgle kinda lost interest in them because of how fast they adapt to his diseases
He doesn't really bother with the Tyranids anymore. It'd kind of hurt watching a species adapt to your diseases every time you unleashed something new.
warhammer lore never stops to amaze me
It never will either! There’s ALWAYS new things and more novels, and even old lore that is still canon!
That’s cus it’s all over the place which makes it interesting but also very inconsistent and bloated
Kills all psykers h'uh?
"In 65million BC, a crack eldritch Xenos race went dormant for crimes they absolutely did commit. These living metal constructs promptly escaped from maximum security Tombs to the 41st millennium overground.
Today, still wanted by the Aeldari, they survive as soldiers of fortune.
If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them....maybe you can hire The Necrons."
I can *hear* the theme song in my head. Imagine Szarek as Hannibal, Trazyn as Face, Imotek as BA and Sahtah the Enfleshed as Murdoch, going on wacky adventures all around the galaxy. 10/10 premise, would watch.
If they could team up with the sisters of silence and some of those assasinorum blokes it could make for the coolest novel concept!

Necrons: hi

@@Sara3346 With a team like that they could do raids deep into Chaos territory!
honestly the necrons are probably best positioned to defeat the tyranids cause they aren't biological in nature and they are incredibly durable.
I think what would be cool is if we had some info from the necrons about what they have seen in other galaxies via their advance tech in astronomy

It’s crazy how much I’ve fallen in love with everything warhammer in just the span of a 2 months, it’s funny how I was always hesitate to bcz of how big the universe is but now I can’t get enough and want more, love ur videos keep up the great work❤
It could also be more like a astronomicon rather than a ferros beacon, acting as a giant synapse node and allowing it excert control over a much larger area of space
I don't follow the Tyranids too closely and found this video fascinating. Thank you for all the quality content.
I love your streams, Sandman! Your theories are backed up with thorough research and even niche subjects get a lot of love in these vids. Thank you!
Great to see you back! Looking forward to these big videos you're making!
That said? I feel like these are the most likely possibilities for what's actually going on:
1) Games Workshop is keeping the door open, they're currently just building a thing because "just because" and won't commit to what it is until they need to write themselves out of the next Black Crusade.
Glad you're back dude... and baring graphic cards to, spoiling us! I love Tyranid lore keep up the good work.
It's always gonna be the "Better weapon invented= Stronger armor invented". The story will never end.
I'd like to see a new hive fleet that's specialised to fight Necrons in much the same way that Kronos is anti-chaos.
Necrons disassembled their Gods and use their fragments as weapons. Nids are badass and their Genestealers are no joke, but the only way anyone "beats" Necrons is if they stay asleep.
For sure. Maybe that would make the silent king do the smart thing and use humans for biotransferance
Its either to warp in the heart of the tyranids outside the galaxy, or its a giant transmitter that will bring EVERY tyranid in the literal universe towards the Milky Way.
Sir there is but one voice that drowns us and it says ..."nomnomnomnomnomnomnomnom"
I'm just waiting for the lion and Guilleman meetup, like Dylan and dutch in predator lol
I can only wish it'll go that way. But the two seem to think verrry differently when it comes to how the Imperium should be run. Ultimately, they'll of course be united against any xenos, but there'll be some drama for sho
They are keeping a baby Tyranid god safe, waiting for it to hatch.
The Hive Mind is a God from another galaxy.
I think the tyranids might be building an ultramarine themed pc guys. They are fans.
Sandman is back! Always fun to dive into the lore with you!
You dont follow the nid stories that get published do you?.
That is the issue with the nids... they know how to run by unnoticed ironically enough.
9:58 gonna call it now and for all time when we look back I want this comment to be the one mentioned it’s a Tyranid queen
Hope the wedding was fun!🎉 congrats!! May the Emperor watch over you
I am so stoked for everything regarding Hive Fleet Tiamet.
I'm curious where GW take the Tyranids now that the story is moving forwards. I hope it's well thought out and gives some texture to the wider Tyranid lore. It seems like some planning has gone into the Tiamet storyline.
Dont worrie the end wont be any time in the next 20 years, so they got time to make whatever work.
An interesting thing is that Tiamat is often depicted in other media as a form of Great Dragon. Big Tyranid vibes
A big dragon that was the one who spawned the first "Gods" so maybe its going to be a weapon to invade the warp and dethrone the Chaos gods.
Void dragon vs Tiamat?
i woke up 5 in the morning for this ... what happen dude .. i hope you re good . happy to have u back
Plot twist! The nids ARE the Old ones. Hell bent on wiping the galaxy clean and re seeding the galaxy with more well behaved children.
My favourite idea is the nids are the creation of the very last old one.
That theorys been around a while but so few links to even say its a real theory.
Sandman of Terra is the voice of my weekly drives. Love your videos
Been loving your vids for a few months, now. Probably the easiest ease in to the warhammer lore. Please keep on keeping on.
The Tyranids are making a planet sized brain.
Gratz on the sponsor! You been pushing out great content for a while
Im so happy that there is so much interest in 40k
It's awesome!
The beacon permits the Swarmlord to speak, and they say: "Bow down to your true king!"
Nice to see you back again! And bringing with you Tyranid terrors no less!
I always use the Holy Hot Glue for my CPU heatsink and thrice-blessed duct tape to support the VDU output interface, under the eyes of the omnissiah.
Love listening to your big long videos while plodding away at work, thank you Sandman :))

I really enjoy these streams, you have a great way of relaying information and the perfect voice for it too.
Well hypothetically let's say tiamat was here first and needed to just lay low. What better way to do that than have a bunch of invasions somewhere else to keep people distracted till you can get a foothold. Attack your enemy where he is not . Sun Tzu .
They're accumulating bio mass though which means they must be taking in resources from somewhere
