LOGIC PRO X - Creative Note Repeat

- This week, I'm having a look at Note Repeat.
I'll start with this in a beat programming context, showing how you can map the Rate of repeating notes to the Mod Wheel. This means you can simply hold down a note and let the Note Repeat Mod slider do the rest. We'll then step into a slightly more creative space, seeing whether or not Note Repeat can be tailored to create some interesting effects. By inverting Velocity and Gate routings so that notes become less strong and shorter as the rate goes up, this is an interesting way to create bursts of notes which don't become too 'machine gun' or overpowering.

00:35 Ultrabeat Pattern playback
01:03 Opening Note Repeat
01:58 Setting Rate range by Mod Wheel
04:01 Setting up Note Repeat for piano
05:22 Assigning Velocity via Mod Wheel too
07:06 Adding Gate control
08:02 Adding Tremolo
08:42 Auditioning piano with beats and summary
Another total gem of an idea. Thank you. The underlying message is: even the simplest tools in logic have so many creative possibilities.
Sometimes it feels like more and more plugins are needed to do cool new things. But a better (and cheaper) approach is actually to learn the giant instrument (logic itself) that’s already in front of you.
Thanks for your wise words as always, Andrew.
I can't believe you are already reaching the 100th mark. Congragulations! I am looking forward to the live episode in 3 days. I already prepared a few beers in my fridge and a nice selection of italian snacks to celebrate. I cannot hide that I am very curious about its content.
Donnie, you're more prepared for it than I am! Many thanks for the congratulations and your continued support.
A real master in Logic who I first saw in a Logic masterclass (consisting of 2 long lasting parts) which impressed me deeply as I was just starting with Logic. Thank you so much for all your Logic lessons. This here is completely new to me!
Thank you so much. Those masterclasses were fun to do and I'm glad they helped. Similarly delighted to hear that there are still new features you're discovering. Much appreciated!
You opened a whole world of new possibilities for me, Jono! Thank you very much!
You're welcome!@@BarthF
You are having so much fun in your studio... and we benefit from it. Thank you doesn’t doesn’t do it justice. Right. ctrl-opt-return on it :)
Ha! Thanks so much, as always, Didier. :)
Really cool technique Jono. Thanks for that , sounds awesome with old style piano. Love the tremelo as well. Looking forward to episode 100 !
Thanks so much as always John. Much appreciated.
Noice! I loike it. I'm going to map my wages to velocity at max settings
🤣 Let us all know how that goes!
Wow! Speechless... thank you!
Aha, well that's always a good sign! Thank you.
I knew about Note repeat, but I had never used it, but I think it can be very useful, especially on the piano that you tested, it was very cool, I got a whole idea, thank you so much
So glad to hear it provided some inspiration. Thank you.
Brilliant!! Been using Logic for years and never knew this existed! Awesome 👏
A hidden gem of a feature! Thanks so much.
Haha same here! Very useful.
Wow! Thanks
🙏
Hmm…I wonder what else can be mapped..? Another excellent video, thank you 👍
Hi Peter. Absolutely - go and have fun down the mapping rabbit hole!
I was expecting you to create some random polyrhythmic patterns using dotted quarter note, dotted eighth notes et cetera.
Hi Dave. That's a great idea - have fun trying those rhythms out.
