I saw on Aliexpress the 8400f for cheaper than the 7500f and thought it ws weird. Double checked the specs and saw it had less cache and thought "nah, I'll just go for the older 7500f". It was also weird how I didnt really hear about the 8000 series chips especially now that the 9000 series is out.
I think it makes no sense to buy 8000 without a G. The graphic unit in the APU is Ok for integrated graphic. The Radeon 780M in the 8700G has a performance of about a GTX 1060 in some games, in some a little bit more in some less. And you have also the NPU which might get more useful in the future. It is actually the strongest APU you can buy for desktop PC at the moment. Problably good for a multimedia PC that is also used for some older games from time to time. Although you can play GTA 5, RDR 2 with 60 and Forza Horizon with 100 FPS I would not consider it for gaming.
Ryzen 8700F can idle at 12W (Total power draw from the wall outlet) while 7000\9000 ryzens cannot. In some use cases that may be a worthy tradeoff. So this CPU is not for everyone but it certainly has it's own use cases and the fact it's cheap also helps a lot. You just need to know what you are doing.
It has AI chip in it which is the whole point of the 8000 series CPU, some really cool stuff are coming with AI enable CPU....this is why I'm buying this CPU! Future game will use AI chatgpt for all NPC in game world!
Personally use the 7700 I got on ali express for not too different a price a good while ago, you can use the integrated GPU for video encoding just a far better deal and performance than these chips, also never had the temp issues or delidding process. The integrated GPU is surprisingly not terrible either if you wanted to put together a nice build but buy a GPU later.
well, perhaps amd felt like their cpus were too good and missed the old days of people delidding cpus? der8auer should be happy i guess, more delidder tools will be sold
@@NDMCN here i m, trying to be positive and you had to come with your reality der8auer will be sad something tells me this sarcastic comment will be r/wooosh for you too
I have a question about your prebuilt PC. Do you know if you are able to upgrade the CPU to a regular Zen 5 processor like the Ryzen 9 9900x? I know some OEM's like HP and Acer don't always publish BIOS updates that make it possible to do an in-socket upgrade to a next Gen CPU.
I bought 2 off aliexpress at £110 each all-in. At that price in the UK is a good deal. Already sold a build with one and my temps were perfectly fine (75 C multicore in cinebench r23 cooler by a Gamdias 240mm AIO). They cost just over £200 here in UK retail, so at £110 I would buy more.
I am wondering if you got a model that was once sold to someone else and sent back after they made the same changes to the chip as you. Ali Express is filled with a few scammers that seem legit. If your 8400f is not having the same issue then that would cause me to wonder about the seller.
I was very skeptical when I bought this CPU from Aliexpress about 2 months ago (it was just under 200 CAD) and wasn't expecting much; however, the one I got was a banger! I ran it through the ringer (Cinebench 30 mins multiple times-played a bunch of games on it). Put it to use in my everyday activities and it generally sits around 60-65 degrees under my heavier load usage. Saying that, I went to order a second one for a friend of mine and they are sold out. Maybe I got lucky? It does suck that could be a real issue moving forward.
I've had a number of processors with Thermal Paste between the IHS and CPU die, and the temperature differences varied by a decent margin between one CPU to another. When these companies use TIM in this way, they don't always get the layer of TIM right, and sometimes they apply it too thick. The worst was the 8700k. Both could hit 5.0GHz with no AVX offset at
"HERE WE GO AGAIN!" Thanks as always for the great content. Someone should definitely share that video with AMD, shame on them with their BS marketing. Curious to hear about your experience with the B580 GPU, hope you will get your hands on it soon 🔥🚀 Have a great week ahead 💪🏽
*Glad I sold 6 PC's with and 5700F !* ( Just because I then, already knew, they were(are) a good deal ) I'm now sure, I'm gonna stock up some more ! Thanks Bry !
The 8000 series are pretty much mobile CPUs put onto a small PCB which means they also come with a lot of the cons mobile chips have to save die space and energy. You only get half the level 3 cache, 20 PCIe 4.0 lanes instead of the 28 real desktop CPUs from the 7000 or 9000 series get. Iirc the 8 lanes missing are the ones that would be going to the first PCIe slot where your GPU is going in the typical configuration. I think that's a point I haven't seen anyone talking about for some reason and it's important to know. They should put this clearly into the specifications to be more transparent for the buyers... but well... company greed and all that.
Since it is a monolithic die - there is no infinity fabric to worry about so it could, potentially, support higher memory speeds in 1:1 ratio. But i doubt AMD's memory controller is any different compared to 7000 and 9000 (although it could be). Being monolithic was a plus side for 5500 that could easily work with ddr 4000+ when 5600(x) couldnt. and it idles at lower power.

The one area this CPU excels in is home server use. It's low wattage compared to pretty much any other CPU at it's price point while also being 8-core/16-thread, making it very good for running multiple virtual machines or containers 24/7. Also, its compatible with up to 256GB of RAM, vs any of the 7000 series Ryzen cpus that only support a maximum of 128GB, again making it a great deal for server use at a relatively low price.
Yeah, I'm in that camp. I liked having TIM between the IHS and CPU because it made it easier and worthwhile to delid. The best case scenario was when I delidded my 6700k and that slashed +30.c off stress temp temps.
I recently nabbed a good deal on my local marketplace in Ohio and I managed score a Cyber Power Prebuilt a guy was selling unopened that he bought as Best Buy but was past the return window. I had no knowledge about this CPU prior to buying but figured 600 USD for a brand system on ddr5 was a banger. I came from a ryzen 5 2600 and GTX 1070 so it definitely was an upgrade. Hopefully this cpu lasts me or I may sell it and get a Ryzen 9600X or 7800x3d who knows in the future. Temps seemed fine on cinebench R23 and R24 I was under 78C the whole time. Gaming was around 55-60c. Time will deffinately tell but I hope this CPU last a good bit given the thermal paste on die situation.. Cheers!

I bought the same chip on Aliexpress for under 130 and just got it today. Now I see this review, lol. Oh well, at least im still on Am5 and can upgrade later on!
am not sure about the validity of judging an aliexpress cpu - ordered on the cheap. This might be a rejected item that didnt pass their testing post production due to incorrect thermal paste etc. I think if you order a cpu from AMD's amazon store in Australia and it performs like this maybe.. but those crazy chinamen and their online bazaar should be taken with a pinch of salt
I miss the days when every CPU was a direct die CPU. Remember overclocking the AMD Barton to insane levels. These days you need to delid and loose the warranty. Also putting an IHS on top soaks some initial heat and spread it away from the die, allowing the manufacturer to preoverclock the CPUs due to heat hotspots being less of an issue, leaving less overclocking peformance on the table for enthusiasts. And even in this the fail sometimes like on this bad paste job.
I got my Black Friday AliExpress 8700F - 158$ shipped to me. I haven't tested it in a motherboard yet sin's it is in Customs, supposed to arrive in 20 December. I Will se if my 8700F has the same (TIM heatsink) problem👍😄
My 9800X3d died after two weeks of usage. I changed out my entire PC only to figure it out it was my new 9800X3D. I am now using a 7500f as it is the only CPU I had and I paired it with a 7900xtx. I am CPU bound now and I lost like 50fps because I game at 4k. I hope I can get my new CPU before next year. 750OF is a great 1440p or 1080p chip if you do not pair it with a high end GPU.
I 've just bought a 8700F. I don't play PC games but I've to edit videos occasionally so I need a multi-cores CPU because the more cores the faster task. However, I just do it occasionally so I don't want to pay too much on it. 8700F is the cheapest AM5 8 cores CPU. 12 cores or 16 cores are too expensive. In addition its temperature is low. I don't like the case blowing hot air to me.
i just realized how insanely of a good deal the 8400f is since in my country stores sell it at same price as 7500f so was just a bad deal but at almost halffff the price on aliexpress that is such an amazing option to get on am5 platformnot sure if the rest of the platform cost also makes sense for a budget cpu but if you want am5 now its great cpu
People get older you look great don't worry about it. I want to see you do another one of those videos where you find some busted up crap give it some tech yes loving and end up with a badass gaming rig
These high temperatures are very difficult to build systems around. They degrade your system over time. CPU is one of the main parts that really cannot fail.
Have you tried ultra high speed memory and fclk? The 8000 series has a way better memory controller and higher FCLK that it can reach with overclocking.
Had the same issues with the 2400G, where temps had double digit drop after a delid. TBH, my 5700G seems hotter than it should be. I want to buy an 8700G but AMD have just given everyone the giant middle finger with the same shit quality paste they insist using on APUs. Such a waste of a good product.
I had artifacting on the iGPU of my Ryzen 7 8700G across two different motherboards and 3 different power supplies. I feel like QA on the latest crop of desktop APUs was non-existent.
Industry standard is to have way more cooling than you need so it's a variable that's been removed. If anything, it made it even clearer to find the issue. You're right. No one building a bunch of computers would ever water cool that heavy. It's just a testing concept.
It's a CPU test. You want to remove as many variables as possible... Imagine cooling a 14900K with a stock cooler... Then in your review said it was bad because it throttled to 2Ghz...
So it's fine and all I need is a square of PTM7950? Cool. If it's $100 cheaper than a 7700, and $50 cheaper than a 7500f/7600 I think I'll be just fine doing that.
And there I was hoping to avoid Intel 14 series, and now AMD pulls this crap. These companies still think it's the 90s and there's no internet. Any normal person will research these things, pre-built PC or custom built. You saved me from buying a Pre-Built with this specific CPU in it. I don't have time to learn how de-lid a CPU nor the care.

8000 chips are the APUs the f series have the gpu disabled
It's monolithic that's why. Way superior than Chiplet idling at 40w.
Only thing you need to delid this cpu is a piece of dental floss
None of the 8700 owner will buy a delid tool which has a price tag of a new cpu
@@NDMCN here i m, trying to be positive and you had to come with your reality

Holy shit just bought a pre built and this was the cpu! Have no idea about this chip. Thanks!!
So is it not good I'm looking at a pre built from microcenter that has this CPU with a 4070 super gpu

Nice PSA on this CPU, will avoid. Keep up the great work!
I'm glad you did this video after the comments on the 8400F video. You caught all the compromises on this chip.
Love my 7500F...Unbeatable value.

I am wondering if you got a model that was once sold to someone else and sent back after they made the same changes to the chip as you. Ali Express is filled with a few scammers that seem legit. If your 8400f is not having the same issue then that would cause me to wonder about the seller.
Literally get the 5700x3d instead with a $52 motherboard and $30 dollar 16gb ddr 4 ram and call it a day :)
not if you want the sweet pcie 4.0
@opfax163 You don't need it. You can RUclips these tests with the b580.
When average you might lose one to two FPS. It's just not relevant.

F sku issue, 8000 series issue, 8700F in particular issue, or specific batch issue?
I've had a number of processors with Thermal Paste between the IHS and CPU die, and the temperature differences varied by a decent margin between one CPU to another. When these companies use TIM in this way, they don't always get the layer of TIM right, and sometimes they apply it too thick.
The worst was the 8700k. Both could hit 5.0GHz with no AVX offset at
"HERE WE GO AGAIN!"
Thanks as always for the great content. Someone should definitely share that video with AMD, shame on them with their BS marketing.
Curious to hear about your experience with the B580 GPU, hope you will get your hands on it soon 🔥🚀
Have a great week ahead 💪🏽
*Glad I sold 6 PC's with and 5700F !* ( Just because I then, already knew, they were(are) a good deal )
I'm now sure, I'm gonna stock up some more ! Thanks Bry !
I must of got lucky because I bought the same chip but didn't see any crazy temps
I think he's was tampered with or got a bad one because that can't be normal
Being monolithic was a plus side for 5500 that could easily work with ddr 4000+ when 5600(x) couldnt.
and it idles at lower power.
have the 8700f myself and no thermal issues
Wow very rare
I also had one which is begging for deliding ( I will do for sure when I have time) working at -30 curve all core +200pbo and it just throttle at 95c under static load in games it hovers around 70-80
@@NDMCN it doesn't make any good affect with +200 . i have better perofmance + low temps in stress test 77 degrees , with just curve optimizer -50 (yes its good for this proc , coz for defaul it works wrong on hight 1.45 volts)
@@zczx-us9vl good for you I just adjust it again and only one core works at -34 all others are around -42 and -46 it works stable and colder but still it needs a thermal care :D colder is always better and this dude has many headroom in that perspective

for gaming go for cache ... for productivity work, blender aftereffects , AE , Video editing.. u benefit on the higher core counts. i bought my 8700f MPK version so is super cheap! and its also good in games.. what are you gonna do with extra fps when target maybe 60 to 80fps is more than enough... remember your eyes only see 60 ish fps or if ure a mutant maybe 80fps to notice a difference. so what to do with extra fps ? thats right fool it not to feed your mind but to feed yo mind.. such trickery.
This is true. For example, the 8700F vs. the 7500F. I don’t notice a difference FPS while gaming, but the render time in Blender is faster with the 8700F.
@@leunca heck yeah! and its on freakin sale i got the MPK version bwahahahahaha. its the same but its got no box and its made for companies looking to buy in bulk . Ohh yeah blender baby is working smooth ..

The specs seemed decent it has a Ryzen 8700F RTX 4060 16GB DDR5 Single Stick Sadly.. B650m-C Motherboard and 2TB WD NVME and segotep 850w PSU. Cheers!

There are AM5 direct die frames on Aliexpress going for $6 AUD on Choice delivery to Australia its obvious content Brian
I bought the same chip on Aliexpress for under 130 and just got it today. Now I see this review, lol. Oh well, at least im still on Am5 and can upgrade later on!
Let us know your temps and power use. Maybe TYC just got a dud. For 1440p and productivity these may not be a bad value while we wait for 10700x3D
am not sure about the validity of judging an aliexpress cpu - ordered on the cheap. This might be a rejected item that didnt pass their testing post production due to incorrect thermal paste etc. I think if you order a cpu from AMD's amazon store in Australia and it performs like this maybe.. but those crazy chinamen and their online bazaar should be taken with a pinch of salt
Please always include an esports title which is cpu limited
Thanks!
i hope there will be 9700f, and maintain its L3 cache size, 16x PCI-E, and PCI-E 5 storage support
You know its gonna be a rough day when your cpu is on the thumbnail of this video…
I got my Black Friday AliExpress 8700F - 158$ shipped to me. I haven't tested it in a motherboard yet sin's it is in Customs, supposed to arrive in 20 December. I Will se if my 8700F has the same (TIM heatsink) problem👍😄

@cardndmch i mean what was the temo and overall experience I am going to buy a 7500f
Im glad i went with the 7500F + 4060 for a budget build for my lil bro.
I think r7 8700F is for OEM PC like HP/DELL/LENOVO/ASUS
Saw the title of the video and thought it’s clickbait. Then saw the thermal paste under the IHS and I was like nope. Bryan wasn’t kidding.
does the 8400f have this same issue?
It's just not got enough Xeon power and multipurpose spray!

These high temperatures are very difficult to build systems around. They degrade your system over time. CPU is one of the main parts that really cannot fail.
Have you tried ultra high speed memory and fclk? The 8000 series has a way better memory controller and higher FCLK that it can reach with overclocking.

If the CPU gets hot most of the time -> reduce life time -> good turnover !
So it's fine and all I need is a square of PTM7950? Cool. If it's $100 cheaper than a 7700, and $50 cheaper than a 7500f/7600 I think I'll be just fine doing that.

"Hi dear people from AMD,
Thank you for the good CPU, mainly X3D, when dedicating time to understanding AMD’s sneaky naming of the new lineups.
Will my Zen+ Ryzen 5 2600 never be patched against Sinkclose breach ?
Even if the Ryzen 5 2600 was launched more than 5 years ago, you are still selling new CPUs with old Zen2 Cores. That makes the Ryzen 5 2600 Zen+ only one generation old, with a kept alive AM4 socket with new CPU out still (Thank you for that, even if the EU were excluded from the Ryzen 5 5600X3D, I hope for the 5500X3D).
The AMD Ryzen 5 7520U is a Q3 2023 CPU AMD Mendocino (Zen 2, Ryzen 7020).
May we have an AGESA UEFI patch for the Sinkclose breach on Zen+ Ryzen ?
Or please downgrade the Zen+ Ryzen 5 2600 CPU as no longer compatible with Windows 11.
I do not understand a Ryzen 5 2600 CPU compatible with Windows 11 secure boot and TPM2.0, but not patched against Sinclose.
I always liked AMD because it was the outsider that was thinking more about its final customers, than its shareholders. That was the old AMD that made the Ryzen 5 1600AF Zen+ compatible with windows 11. Now AMD is in favor of planned obsolescence. Recycling only its own old architectures for the profit of shareholders polluters.
I will avoid contributing too much to that anymore."

AM5 Ryzen is designed to go to 95C always. This is normal. You can undervolt it without losing performance. And reduce temps if it bothers you. But 95C is normal no matter what cooler you're using.
So how do we know which CPUs are designed this way and which ones aren't? I don't want to buy a terrible CPU.

"That's the thing. I think most people into gaming don't have the money to spend $800+ on a GPU. I got into AM4 just as AM5 was released and found some great deals. Rocking the Gigabyte B550 Gaming V2 $74, R5 5600X3D for $199, and a used $300 PowerColor Red Devil RX 6800XT that is an absolute beast after a re-paste, undervolt, and overclock to 2600 MHz @ 1000 mV, as well as undervolting the R5 5600X3D with Team Group ARGB 8X2 16 GB 3600 CL14 DDR4.
