Fr. Namek arc was something else. This arc was not only my introduction to DBZ but anime as a whole. I remember back when I was 5 I couldn’t wait to watch DBZ on Fridays on Toonami. Best way to kick off the weekend. Who else remembers getting up early to watch those Saturday morning cartoons in the early ‘00’s? What was y’all’s favorite shows and episodes?

I agree but I think the Moro arc will end up being a really good one as well, once it's animated. Vegeta has to come face to face with the things he did to the Namekians and he even goes and trains with the Yardrats. I think it could be really good. The manga run was a bit convoluted and kind of nonsensical at times but if the anime cleans it up a little it could be reminiscent of those outstanding DBZ arcs
@@JaqenHghar. There were some interesting ideas and bits of lore in the Moro arc - however, as you've mentioned, it was very convoluted. Nonetheless, it's still one of the better DB Super pieces. The Granola arc was also decent. I wouldn't put them up there with the Saiyan and Namek arcs though.

This was literally the beginning of Gokus legend. He came back a totally different fighter from when he fought Vegeta. He became the real icon in this moment

DBZ was the best way to teach kids that people who have to flex are showing their best already before the fight even starts and that those who do not flex show true potential and inner strength.
This whole scene here wasnt a flex on them, he was testing their speed and how well they can track him. Each movement was a gauge on his enemy. After that, he knew they werent even a warm up.
To be fair, most fictional characters aren't even fighters :D But I'd rather say "this Goku" was stronger than only 70%. Cell/Buu-Saga Goku? That's were we probably reach like 90%

Yes and no. DBZ was originally supposed to end after the namek saga but people wanted more. As a writer myself, I know writers constantly take older ideas and expand on them as they write more. But since our guy has passed we will never know if the two are related. But from a narrative lens, it definitely looks like foreshadowing.

This entire fight in Dragon Ball is when I got hooked on the anime. My friend would rush to his house after school just to watch Dragon ball Z and I couldn't understand what the big deal was until this scene happened. From then on I was a fan.

I remember when they first dubbed the later half of the the Namek/Frieza Saga and the Funimation dub first aired on Toonami. This was the first episode of it that aired. I was so hyped to finally see what happened after Goku arrived, but so thrown off by the VA changes. Little did I know, at the time, that it would end up being the mainstay English dub. Still love me some Ocean Dub though. As that was the dub that initially aired for DBZ. It would always get to the episode where Goku arrived to fight the Ginyu Force at the end of the episode, and would then start over by playing the first 3 movies. Followed by rerunning the show up to that same point. Good times.
Just short of my favorite moment from that scene. When they start firing Ki blasts at him in crazy fast succession and they go right through Goku. Vegeta tips the audience that Goku is, in fact, moving. It's just so blistering fast that it's almost imperceptible. Grass at his feet is all matted down tho. CLASSIC

He is simply faster and higher power level then his opponents, better reflexes, and ability to read his opponents.
Has nothing to do with ultra instinct which has nothing to do with power or speed but is simply the body reacting without thought on instinct to ultra levels, which logically speaking shouldn't even overcome a massive power gap yet somehow does... but i digress.
Never mind that real fighting is won on instincts to begin with.... its why you train, to hone your instincts so you can win without having to think everything through, which costs time..... they act like using instincts in fighting is this novel god like ability that everyone lacks, while they just punch and kick with no strategy. When in real life.. it is the basic foundation of fighting in the real world and is based on experience and exposure over time.
Instincts are why we think of boxers as masters of the sweet science... and how they achieve what they do. the whole Ultra instinct thing was always absurd to me... and just a way for them to have a new power up beyond muh power levels....

This entire fight in Dragon Ball is when I got hooked on the anime. My friend would rush to his house after school just to watch Dragon ball Z and I couldn't understand what the big deal was until this scene happened. From then on I was a fan.
Namek is when all the pl changed a lot but the saiyan saga is when everything actually changed

I remember when they first dubbed the later half of the the Namek/Frieza Saga and the Funimation dub first aired on Toonami. This was the first episode of it that aired. I was so hyped to finally see what happened after Goku arrived, but so thrown off by the VA changes. Little did I know, at the time, that it would end up being the mainstay English dub. Still love me some Ocean Dub though. As that was the dub that initially aired for DBZ. It would always get to the episode where Goku arrived to fight the Ginyu Force at the end of the episode, and would then start over by playing the first 3 movies. Followed by rerunning the show up to that same point. Good times.
The music just makes this all the more funny.

Just short of my favorite moment from that scene. When they start firing Ki blasts at him in crazy fast succession and they go right through Goku. Vegeta tips the audience that Goku is, in fact, moving. It's just so blistering fast that it's almost imperceptible. Grass at his feet is all matted down tho. CLASSIC

Never noticed the parallel between Jiren and Recoome missing hitting goku and stumbling after the missed punch. They really took inspiration of the ultra instinct from this moment. Pretty cool.

They turned Namak into a damn war zone. Vegeta thought he was just another soldier with his own agenda who wasn't gone make it off Namak
Vegeta being the only one able to track him added a great touch for me. He was the only one who really understood what was happening
