5 things I hate about the Tissot PRX quartz watch, the blue Tissot PRX

- Tissot has made a good looking watch with the Tissot PRX quartz. But there are certain issues that you should know about before you buy.
Thanks to Bruce Williams for lending me the watch. Subscribe to Bruce Williams--but you probably already did. If not, get on it please

Weird. Mine hits the seconds dead on, and the minute hand is always dead on too. Pretty happy with it and definitely glad I didn't get one like the one in this video. If anyone is reading this and thinking about picking one of these up, seems like a good idea to carefully examine the watch in store before purchasing it, and perhaps don't purchase online sight unseen.
The reason, why quartz doesn't always hit the markers perfectly is because there is tolerance in the gears that protect the gears from heat (metal expands when heated). When i'm outside, rarely any watch, even the expensive ones wont hit the markers, because its extremely cold and the gears shrink. I think snap-on caseback is a just alright considering how thin this watch is. With a screw-down one, it would be thicker, what matters imo is the water resistance. The quick release for the bracelet is implemented because Tissot plans to release other straps for this watch, so its not pointless.
Nonetheless I do agree what you told about the sunburst effect and the microadjustments.
I think you are bashing this watch too hard for what its ment to be: Really stylish and functional everyday watch for everyday people. I bought this and the automatic version for 780usd and gave the quartz one to my brother as a christmas gift. He was extremely pleased with how it looked and felt in his hand; and tissot is well known in europe, so he is proud to wear it. For 280usd this is miles better than similary priced chinese fashion watches, the bracelet is phenomenal, sapphire crystal is nice addition and its actually swiss made. There is a reason why they released two versions of this watch.
Thanks sat!inkuti. You have made many knowledgeable observations
Correct.
I avoided acquiring this piece for years because of all the talk about being too big and the quartz movement not hitting dead on the indicies. Ended up getting the 40mm with black dial on a trade and have to say I am impressed. I have a 6.25 inch wrist and it fits fine. Mine seems to be pretty good with the alignment. Not perfect but for half the price of the Powermatic 80 and still getting the same case, bracelet and finish this is a hell of a deal!!!
There is nothing you can do about the second hand, however the minute hand being off is based on how you set it. There is a bit of play on these ETA movements, the minute mechanism can have a slight gap if you set the minute hand going forward right before closing the crown. When you close the crown, the mechanism starts moving but it takes a moment before it makes contact and starts pushing the minute hand forward. To set it accurately, make sure to go a bit past the position you want to set the minute hand to, then back up the hand counter clockwise until you reach the position you want. This will push the minute mechanism directly against the minute hand. So when you release the crown and start the watch, the minute mechanism will be in direct contact with the minute hand it and till start moving right away, no more delay before the minute hand starts moving.
I had a similar alignment issue with the seconds hand on my Seiko Kinetic Landmaster. One day I accidentally dropped it on my dining room tiled floor and the misalignment issue was fixed. Probably just need to give the watch a knock because that's what fixed it on my Seiko. I'm not even kidding. Honest to God, I picked it up from the floor and it had perfect alignment.
2:22 Try to set it counter-clockwise.
If I try to set mine clockwise, the minute hand needs a couple seconds before it starts moving, so it's instantly off again.
If I set it counter-clockwise, it immediately starts running and stays perfectly lined up to all the indices.
I got the blue dial quartz version and I love it - hands line up well - super versatile - great bracelet design - classic 70s look - works for both formal and play - are there better watches for much more money ? - yes
As much as I love watches I’m so glad that I am not a watch collector because of this individual.
I can understand this comment, he's one pompous a** jester of the court.
I think the dial is meant to be like that actually. With a very subtle sunburst
I’m going to wait until the version with the Powermatic 80 automatic movement comes out later this year before making my final decision on this watch.
At twice the price.
The powermatic 80's have their own problems! I suggest you do your research before you buy one!
2yr battery? My AD is quoting 5-8yr.
I think your running a shit show mate.
❤❤❤i wore my prx in public yesterday-the coolest thing about this watch( attracted lots of attention )is that it has its own unique beauty !...doesnt look like a homage or a fake watch-i predict that these low prices of the prx line will skyrocket into the wonderful of vanity-and i am a proud owner of the quartz no worries excellance-a watch u can quickly grab and go out without the hassle of setting the time or adjusting-this watch will transform the efficiency of wearing an attractive lightweight thin timepiece !!
I know that technically it's not a "super expensive" watch, but I find it shocking that a company can sell a watch for more than a hundred dollars with a quartz movement that doesn't line up with its indices and a snap on caseback, and still get so much praise.
snap on caseback??
@@apidas it's not a screw type. It's pressed in. So you need to pry and press the case back every time you want to change batteries.
Its no big deal
Cuz not everyone is crazy like you to obsess over indices etc
@@saveyourtears7067 bruh, most people who are talking about the quartz PRX are complaining about the seconds hand alignment. There's a video on RUclips that seriously suggests removing the seconds hand from the watch to "fix" it. It's not a total deal breaker for me, but it's really lame that a 300+ USD watch has that problem at all.
It is the best way to review a watch ... talking about its defects, so as not to have a wrong idea of the product.
keep in mind that many quartz watches, and also Rolex oysterquartz watches that dont completely align. its a common quartz problem.
I can’t understand why my 60€ timex quartz is perfectly aligned. Same for my 240€ Casio edifice. Never had alignment problems
I thought the term was sunburst lol are Starburst not sweets.
Also I think they're going to get around to releasing addional straps everybody was pining after the Automatic so I'm sure their focus was probably on that.
I just bought the watch and it’s great. My seconds hand aligns perfectly but the minute hand is trickier to get lined up. I would recommend this watch to anyone though. I love how the bracket shimmers in the light with every move, even in a dim lit room. I don’t need micro adjustments, it fits my wrist like a glove. Also I would disagree that this is something you just buy a high school kid lol, it’s different but very cool looking for anyone. I think if it’s your first watch to maybe venture for something more versatile but this watch can be dressed up or dressed down. Looks more expensive than it is. Enjoyed the video though
There ARE half links on the watch.
Been a collector forever this prx is amazing. I have cartier Rolex omega vacheron grand seiko breitling tag lange and this watch is amazing
Damn it, you are making me find fault with all my quart movement watches with slightly off alignment of second/ minute hands
I agree with Marc and didn't make it a day with the PRX but grabbed the Powermatic 80 and love it. So if you're a collector looking to get a quick fix with the PRX it's likely going to result in you purchasing a Powermatic. Keep that in mind before you order it online to save a few bucks.
Great video. Saved me from buying the hype.
I like this review, straight to the point and from a watch nerd perspective!
I've got a new titanium quartz Seiko (SUR375), and sometimes that second hand hits every mark, and sometimes it's slightly off. It's not how it was put together, but it seems to be something inherent with quartz watches in general, except maybe the real high-end pieces. Even though it has that tiny issue, which doesn't bother me at all, it's accurate as hell. Had it 2 months, and have only had to re-set it one time, and that was for daylight savings time.
My Tuna is dead bang on. I think it has to do with the movement.
@@marcgoldbergdogtrainer As is mine (6N52 movement), and it's only $248 from Island.
Battery life is 5-8 years, where did you read it was only 2?
Big thanks for this video, debating between quartz and auto for quite a while
Thank's for the kind review 🙏
I appreciate your honesty
Want a nice sunburst effect with no sunlight? Orient Bambino Blue version 4...It's amazing!
Sometimes it takes a brutally sober outlook to see through the hype surrounding this watch. Thanks for that Marc.
I bought the powermatic80 because of all the hype. Recieved today and it disappoint big time. Alot of sharp edges and just dont feel comfortable. This should of came with an additional rubber strap.
Well I guess I fell for the youtube hype, becareful guys!
I agree about the points made in this video; however, as an entry point to swiss watch making it's not bad. If you spend a few extra 150 bucks you can get the automatic version. Beats buying a Daniel Wellington, MVMT, or any other drop shipped product.
I've got the Tissot PRX quartz watch and I actually removed the seconds hand for a more relaxed feel. It's made a big difference and taken away the headache. The watch feels so much better now!
But it's a bit disappointing that a watch costing over £250/$320 doesn't have a properly aligned second hand 😅 There are plenty of other brands out there offering well-aligned second hands for a much more affordable price.
What about Tissot Gentleman Quartz?
My quartz PRX hits the seconds markers spot on so no complaints from me
Ive not seen the video yet but he better mention the misaligned date wheel and second hand missing the marks.
Thanks for your candour !
Lol not for watch collectors, the rest of the review was fine and acceptable but who in the devil's hell do you think you are to tell people if they are a collector or not? 😂
Battery life is between 5 and 7 years depending on the battery.
mine does not align neither. bought online but happy with white dial.
Exactly it's just an okay watch
Perfect review, I enjoyed it very much. Thank you.
This review is far from being perfect😂
@@matyasd007If objectivity can't be perfect
Oceanus T200 is 10 times better at least. Solar, bluetooth, perpetual calendar, hands and date auto alignment, better dial and case finish. Maybe the bracelet is the only part where this Tissot is on par or better than the Casio.
Its still just a Casio
@@Starstreak170 Yes, as much as a PRX is still just a Tissot...
@@ausaleve6002 It says Swiss Made on the dial. Casio says 'anus'
@@Starstreak170 That swiss made on the dial is what allow them to sell you a chinese made 20$ quartz movement with a second hand missing every indice for around 400 bucks. For sure that Tissot has no anus on the dial, but it still hurts your anus in a typical swiss made way.
@@ausaleve6002 Just joking. The Oceanus is a great watch. I actually don't own either of them.
Marc, can you review the automatic version of this watch? Thank you 🙏
this is the video i needed to see
Let's be honest, what watch for 300$ is a watch for a (picky) collector? Maybe if the guy collects G-Shocks... For the price nothing comes close to this if you really like the integrated bracelet style.
I just got mine today. The minute hand lines up fine since I hacked the second hand right at 12 and set the minute hand directly on a minute marker. But my second hand misses every single marker. My Casio MDV-106's and even the MRW-200H ($20) hit every single marker and they are cheap Japanese movements. I'm not happy with the "Swiss" quality movement. I might sell mine. It's sold out everywhere here at jewelers and on the Tissot website. With the Powermatic 80 automatic movement and a sweeping second hand this wouldn't be an issue.
There are 2 small half links right on either side of the clasp, they have been removed on the watch you reviewed. I also think the case back should be screw down as well as the crown. It's a good looking watch and I already got a compliment on it at the bank today, but I'm just not in love with it like I hoped I would be. I probably won't wear it much and it will sit in the box with my other 60-70 watches that aren't in the daily rotation.
The second hand not hitting the markers has usually more to do with the assembly rather than the movement.
So many other better watches for the price.
You need to buy automatic for the second hands to hit exactly on the indices and even then that's not always the case. Ive seen automatic watches in the $700-800 range miss indices. A lot of your cons are based on watches a few price brackets up from this model.
I disagree, I think it’s only a watch guys watch, I think an Everyman wouldn’t even look at a 70’s inspired watch
I hate it when the secondshand doesn't hit the markers spot on time after time. My citizen chronomaster does.
WOW great info. AAAAAAAAAAA++++++++++++ again great video I liked it a lot keep up the great work
Im waiting for the auto version. Hopefully they’ve corrected some of those things you mention
I paid 305 usd and the bracelet on mine make a terrible sound and feels cheap and no comfortable. The aesthetic is really nice.
I’m thinking to send them back and buy a Seiko sbz0013 automatic for $249 as my daily watch. Just to leave in peace my Speedmaster and Tudor haha
Thank you for the video !!! What do you think about Sinn 556I?
go for it dude!
It looks like a watch from a dollar store
The new Direnzo is something to consider for the Royal Oaky, integrated bracelet thing.
is this watch good for 6.7 wirst?
No! you really have to have over a 7 for this watch, it’s specs make it fit weird on smaller wrists, i had the same problem lol
The snap on caseback & the second hand misaligned re the major factor I dont consider to purchase this watch as my first "swiss made" watch.I will feel like im purchasing a swatch watch.Even cheap Casio duro can do better than this.for a godsake
The back seems to be identical to the one on the late 70's original? I like that!
Well, it is a Swatch watch :D
So basically it doesn’t tell the time in any meaningful/accurate way. Oh dear. I can’t see strap manufacturers queueing up to supply aftermarket PRC straps. Personally I couldn’t stand the way it sat high on the wrist, Mark does have a big flat sexy wrist bone so it may be alright for him.
Actually, Lester,The best Automatic watch doesn't keep time as accurately as the Quartz PRX!
I love my powermatic 80 in blue
sry tissot this is bad i have a cheap citzen and that hits the marks
Great video. If anyone should buy a Tissot, spend a little more and pick up a Seastar.
I did unfortunately. Took the powermatic 80 at 625€. It came with a misaligned dial at 6 hour marker. Returned it and took Khaki Navy Scuba which is perfect in QC.
Actually Zeus this is a perfect Reissue of the late 70's SEASTAR!!!
actually very cheap for the price. The bracelet is not that good, case and finishing certainly are. Auto is better
Too funny. I actually had a prx chronograph before I purchased my hulk, Batman, and yacht master.
😂😂
40mm case too big for my 61/4 inch wrist anyway.
But I like that tissot is a old swiss company and affordable. Of course I'd prefer Rolex or omega. But tissot is good for people who appreciate watches but not nerdy and don't want to spend 1000s.
But I want a automatic now. I won't buy unless smaller case anyhow.
Or maybe go buy yourself a Royal Oak for 100x the price.
Tissot never get enough loves from me simple I never considered it as a fine Swiss made watches, together with the Titoni brand that been very successful in Asia in 60's.
If you want a affordable Swiss piece, the Swiss military watches is a good bet, or started with Longines, there are plenty of choices to suit your budget.
Chag Sameach Marc!
Only 5 ?
I consider Tissot to be a decent entry level mid tier watch. This watch is good for the line cook who has perfect attendance at the local grill. So many better watches at this price range.
Is cheap watch for you my friend, minimum you must to have the DJ41 lol
I wanted this watch but....
It's what you get your son for graduating from highschool if you're a cheapskate.
agree the dial looks very bland and non-sunbursty lol. i despise butterfly clasps, they need to be deployant. also, they should have polished the centre links on this model to give it more flair
Young Carol Brown Laura Lopez Sandra
Liking the new music at the start, i like tissot but can’t bring myself to buy one for some reason.
Very detailed review. Things like the flat look of the dial in all but the brightest light and the minute hand not aligning properly are things I haven’t picked up on with other reviews. Will definitely not buy one of these.
PHIRST
Normal people! I like that ha ha, we certainly aren't Normal Marc!
Thank you for this video. The look of this watch speaks to me, and I wouldn’t even mind getting the quartz version. But after you have pointed out out flaws with the product I won’t be buying. Even at $315 price tag (found it for that much) there’s better options out there.
Tissot blew this. This POS could have been BIG.
