Hey Scotty, what do you think about the Scion TC?
Hey scotty what's the last year you would buy on the chevy vans?
@@emanuelmoreta5472 Scotty has a video on the Scion. (He did it only recently) He says they're good cars. If they've been well taken well care of not run to death they should be very good cars. But as always have a good mechanic check it out before you buy it for any problems.. spending a hundred or so now to check it out, could save you thousands later! Listen to ol' Scotty! Scotty Kilmer roasts cars like Gordon Ramsey roasts Vegans.
@@Jonathan-vv6yg yeah general fits better
I'm pretty sure he has gone vegan. Or vegetarian at least.
Saw a program where he had to muffle himself with a vegetarian, that looked awkward.
What I want to know is why the RUclips algorithm decided to put both Scotty and Gordon in all of our feeds??
And car makers.
We're already referring to 20 year old cars with "back in the day" lol, that's how bad it's gotten

3 phase AC induction motor: I will last for an eternity.
I'll keep my pushrod engine. 90% of the reason chevy last so long and mileage doesn't wear em out (with proper maintenance) no timing chains, only 1 cam, simple, compact and good power. There's a reason SBC engines get swapped into all kinds of project vehicles.

My 2004 Tahoe went 493k miles until one day it bleed out. My guess is the PCV completely clogged resulting in the rear main seal to go.

"You don't need 4wd even in the winter" says the guy that lives in Texas. 😆
Taho no need 4x4 🦧
In the north-central US, 4wd is a must if you want to get around in winter. Maybe FWD is okay if you don't leave Minneapolis-St Paul streets or the interstate. Any place else 4wd will make life better if you keep braking distance in mind.
Some of our best TV entertainment is watching Texas drivers on ice/snow. LOL Its the best comedy show ever.!!
@@LuvBorderCollies it really isnt. Proper snow tires and weight on your vehicle will get just about everyone through anything they encounter with snow.
Regularly have driven through multiple feet of snow.
Problem is in North Texas about half the time when winter precipitation falls it is sleet or frozen rain rather than snow or at least a mixture of sleet and snow. And Texas big cities dont have snow plows or enough ability to salt roadways-at best only major overpasses on major highways-and if you live anywhere besides DFW, Austin, San Antonio or Houston-no road treatment at all. So I would want 4wD on any vehicle I had to get around in on sleet covered roads in winter in North Texas. Just sayin’
The older, rusty Chevy Express Vans at my job seem to be slightly more reliable than the newer Chevy Express Vans.
I am not a big fan of jeeps

@Bobby Knuckles well my dad did lol and he left my mom stuck with it, we didn't spend money on transmission but we did a lot for brakes, and steering as well as motor running issues every once in a while. My mom recently sold it and got herself a 2017 Nissan Acura
Had a neighbor with that generation Tahoe. His was a 2005 with over 250,000 miles and ran great. I had an ‘04 Trailblazer before and that SUV was awesome too. They definitely don’t make them like that anymore. Great video and God bless!

I don't get it. I can't go 5 years without rusting out panels, even if it isn't driven much in winter AND gets regular car washes. This is with Ford or Chevy. Never had a Toyota or Honda go rusty on me, or even a Subaru for that matter. I was once driving my low miles 2005 F-250 on my way to a doc appointment and was listening to a show on the radio. It was with some guy who used to work for Ford and he was singing praises of modern American cars (this was back in 2010). One of his comments almost made me lose control as I sprayed coffee. He literally said, "They don't rust!" At the time I was in a 5 yr old low mile F-250 with a bed that had a few rust holes in the bed and some rusting out parts of both rocker panels. I didn't even know about the bed until just a few days prior as I was moving around in the bed moving cargo around. It had a nice thick Rhino lined bed that covered up the rust holes that weren't there when it was applied. But modern American cars DON'T RUST.

Mines at 256k miles and running strong.
Chevy usually has access to the heater core from the engine bay. Unlike Ford! All their vehicles require a dash removal. I did it once on a 1980 Cougar, never again. My 2002 4x4 Tahoe just passed the 200,000 mile mark and is going strong. Since around the 100K mark I've done a lot of heavy towing with it and have made very few repairs, drive it four miles on a hilly, bumpy gravel road every trip I take just to get to a paved road. The LS engines (Mine being a 5.3 liter) are very long lasting and dependable. I use it more like a truck than an SUV and it still keeps on ticking. The one PITA repair I had to do last year was changing the brake lines, the originals were mild steel and rusted out, probably due to the salty roads, I replaced all of them with stainless steel lines like what the factory should have used themselves. Over all I'm very happy with this vehicle, I've taken 1,000 mile plus trips without worrying about breaking down though it had 180K miles on it. It's not great on fuel but pulling a 4,500 pound sometimes heavier trailer I wouldn't expect it to be but it certainly has the power to do it. The only upgrade I did was installing rear shocks with a coil spring around them as a helper spring just because I do tow trailers at least once a week. This is the newest vehicle I've ever owned so I guess I can't compare it to new cars, my others are a 96 Ford F800 and a 69 Chevy c-10 pick-up.

2000 GMC Sierra SLE 1/2 ton 5.3 vortec with 265,000 + miles. Runs good. I’ve done most of the repairs on it. Have always used synthetic oil. Going to replace the lifters next. A little rusty but it’s been a good minimal cost/maintenance truck, besides the basics. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I really like how Scotty always brings it back to the Celica
Never had a Chevy truck but I swear I'll never buy another Chevy car!
My dads 2012 ford did 5mpg today while pulling a trailer🤣
Trust me , they are bad on my second brand new one in the last 3 years , and taking this one to the tranny shop next week lol
obs 88-98 was the last of quality from chevy nbs wasn't to bad but just went downhill from there
Michael Brown the 2000s trucks where good
@@nerdnec any idea how the post 2015 Ecosport or Figo petrol are?
Used to have a 2005 LTZ Silverado . Loved it. Only sold it as I was moving across the country. That was 6 years ago. Still miss it.
Bought my 99 Silverado Z71 new right when the body style changed. It had some problems early like the transfer case got stuck in LOW in the middle of nowhere. The electronic 4x4 quit working sometime before the 1st snowfall, not the best time to discover that. And extended cab windows howled with air leaks.
But after those issues were fixed it never gave me more trouble and I loved it. Got great mileage, 18 mpg doing 80mph on the interstate, up to 24mpg on 55mph Iowa roads. Sad day when I realized I had to find a softer riding vehicle for my spine. :/
My 27 year old Chevy K1500 has excess of 294 thousand miles. Still going strong, and PAID FOR. Gets around 15 MPG here in the Ozarks, and an honest 17MPG on the highway.
Had to have oil pumped replaced last year in my 2015 Silverado. 75k miles. Chevy dealer wanted $2500, but after complaining to GM, they did it for $1500. That's still ridiculous for a 5 year old truck with that many miles.
My 2012 Silverado transmission failed at 70,000 miles. When I had a ford it never had issue at 160,000 miles.
Wait
Wait wait
THEY GET THE SAME GAS MILEAGE
13 years apart, they figured how to make the handles fall apart in your hands but not how to improve MPG on a same size and weight car???
For their defense it produces 70 more horses lol. But yeah they dont care
Basically, the physics hasn't changed. It takes a certain amount of energy to get it moving and keep it moving. The highway mileage is a bit better possibly due to different gearing, but no vehicle of this heft is ever going to get much better mileage. OTOH I owned a Ford F 350 with a carbureted 7.5 liter engine that never got more than 10 MPG. It was a heavy truck with a utility bed and lift gate, geared low for hauling. Physics.
After they went belly up in 2008, GM just squeaks by each year at the expense of customers.
@E ZA Name two.
The chevy sprint got 44mpg city and 55mpg highway. That was in the 80’s.
I love beefy rear ends... thanks for another legit video bud. Keep them coming 👍🏽👌🏾
I have a 2003 Silverado 2500HD and you speak the truth about those old Chevys! I average 11 MPG with the 6.0, 145,000 miles, from Ohio it's rusted to hell, but the motor runs like a top, transmission shifts perfectly, no leaks, etc..
My mom still has a 2003 Tahoe Z71 and that thing still rides great, drives great, the interior is still in excellent shape and it’s got plenty of power. Those early 2000’s Chevy motors just run and run. That’s why you still see tons of them on the road.
Anytime anyone asks me what kind of car they should buy, I ask them the same question - particularly when they’re looking for a used car. “What do you tend to see on the road most often?” That’s usually a pretty good indicator as to which cars were built to last and which cars simply aren’t worth considering. Here in Texas, I see 2000-2007 era Tahoes, Suburbans and Silverados CONSTANTLY. These things are everywhere. It’s a pretty good hint that they were made pretty well.
Greetings to the Kilmer family from British Columbia!
Beer + Scotty Kilmer. Best combo ever!
I've watched every video of yours, Scotty. I've learnt a lot.
Thank You for all your hard work :)
Hey I’m in BC too! I’m on the bus heading to the dealership to pick up my 2019 Silverado as it was acting up again. Wish I found Scotty sooner!
@@foxbodyboys4483 Hey! Sucks to hear that you're having issues with your truck that's only about 2 years old. That's just not right! Don't pay them anything, force them to fix it under warranty and to give you a courtesy car.
Tell your friends and family [only the ones you like haha] not to buy American garbage anymore. Spread the word.
I hope that things work out for you and that it doesn't have any further issues within the near future!
I wish you the very best!
Varun Kashib - oh I’m fighting them.. it’s been happening since a few weeks after I got it.
My brother in law got a 2017 F-150 and has over 250k on it now and no problems... I should have got one, or kept my Tacoma. Thanks for the kind words.
@@foxbodyboys4483 I understand, sometimes we make mistakes but we learn a lot from them. My first car was a 2000 Toyota Camry XLE V6. Me buying it was a complete accident. I had no idea about Toyota's reputation in the car world. I was pleasantly surprised when my Camry made it to 562,000 Kms with no issues. All I did was Timing belt water pump changes, oil and filter changes, ATF changes, coolant, one radiator change, brakes, battery, and i changed the original starter at about 550,000 Kms. Still ran like a clock, the Transmission shifted smooth, AC still blew cold, all electronics worked flawlessly.
That 1MZ-FE V6 and that AISIN A541E transmission was so well made. The Camry was made in Japan and it showed.
I sold it recently to a guy in Surrey, BC and he's using it as a family car. I replaced it with a 2008 Honda Accord with a J35 V6 but still miss the heck out of my Camry.
The Accord is alright, but the Camry was legendary.
When it comes to American vehicles, the Ford F Series trucks and old Crown Vics are the only ones I'd seriously consider spending my money on.
I'm sure you miss your Tacoma, I know them to be excellent trucks!
One day everything on your Silverado will be working just like it should, it'll be a good feeling :)
Varun Kashib - yes I know what your saying about mistakes.. I think it’s hit and miss with certain vehicles. Seems like most brands have their good and bad vehicles, some can still be garbage.
I sold my 99 Tacoma because I needed a bigger truck to pull a trailer and your right I should have kept it!! Awesome little trucks.
I am selling my truck when it’s fixed.. GM has been bad to deal with. My first and last new GM that’s for sure.
Here’s what went wrong: The American government bailed this trash of a company. Should’ve let them gone under...
Please elaborate if you want.
Obama is the one who bailed them out. Because liberals are pro union. Your union fees go to the democratic party. Liberal Obama is the one who bailed them out. Any liberal president would've done it. I would let them go under. GM is crap
Jim Fusco Couldn’t agree more. Canadian government helped too... So there’s that lol
@@jimfusco7546 trump would've bailed them out too. Just saying..
@@Mohapi_Tau trump would have made the efforts to bail out something worth our time and not a car company built around poor quality lmao
My 2004 Tahoe Z71 is still going strong at 137K. I did have to replace the transfer case for about $3,000, but other than that, it's just been maintenance. After years of the occasional car wash and leaving it at dusty trailheads for days, sometimes weeks at a time, I recently got inspired to give it some TLC. I washed, clay barred, polished and sealed the black paint. By hand. Phew. It now looks brand new, save for some paint chips I have to deal with. I'm told the front suspension is a tad loose, but I can't feel it driving. Anyway, I figure it's good for another 100K miles.
I have a 2001 Chevy Tawhore with 84,600 miles. It's in great shape and still drives like the first day. I am extremely pleased with the performance and I have been offered close to $5,000 for this truck but It's not for sale. Mileage isn't all that great but I can count on it when I need to get somewhere. I love my truck. This is only the second set of tires I've had on it, and it still drives straight, and smooth as ever, you wouldn't think your riding in a truck.
Awesome comparison of old vs. new, I look forward to seeing more of these comparisons.
I can say they used to make great vehicles that lasted. I've got a 92 Chevy 4x4 truck with 350 engine it has 300k miles. A 92 Suburban with 350 engine with 270k and a 96 Chevy Suburban with 180k miles. Between the three vehicles I've had to replace two alternators, one water pump and a transmission. Aside from routine fluids and filter maintenance, plus brakes and tires they all run strong.
My '14 Equinox(2.4L 4 cyl.) just stopped one day. Went into "limp" mode, drove to local Chevy dealer: timing issue. Even at 91,000 miles it was fixed under warranty. Good motor, decent mpg, but not nearly enough power for a mid-size SUV.
My 2003 Chevy Trailblazer has 245,000 miles on it. I have kept up on maintaining it but it runs like a dream.
Me* My engine sounds horrible and transmission is slipping terribly
Scotty* does the A/C blow cold?
Rainbow Squash I am playing on Scotty’s checklist when reviewing a vehicle. He likes to check if the air conditioning blows cold air. Now where the joke comes in is that I am acting like the vehicle is perfectly fine as long as the A/C blows cold regardless of the fact that the vehicle is in terrible condition. I can’t fathom that I actually had to explain a joke of this simplicity to a person who said I have “the logic of a shrimp.”🥱
🤣
Rainbow Squash I don’t believe you even understand, let me explain again. This time, try re reading this comment to try and understand, use your first grade reading skills.

Some do not get your sarcasm.
There are or have been two class action lawsuits against GM for the A/C system and the transmission in the silverado 1500's. The engine noise is considered piston slap if the noise goes away when the vehicle warms up. If it doesn't go away, possible a leaky valve cover, or worse yet, a bad lifter. This also occurs in a good many of them. Let's not get started on the GDI system which is causing the valves to build up with carbon very quickly. I have one of these rides, tranny is slipping and I've got 131K. Also, I have the tap, tap, tap from the engine bay that doesn't go away when the truck warms up.
96 suburban k2500 SLT 210 k miles runs drives perfect and still looks good love it.
92. 3/4 4x4 Suburban with 454 here. 120k miles runs and drives like new.
I have a 95 Caprice with the LT1. It has nearly 300,000 and runs strong. It was a former Wash State Patrol car and the troppers who drove them in the day called them 4 door Corvetts. Quite fast for a big old boat.
Bought a hybrid RAV4 It was getting about 36 when new and indicated 40 now. Lifetime combined is 38.5. The main reason I bought it was the brakes don't wear hardly at all.
The tightest car I ever owned. Just awesome at a year and a half ßnf and 15k
Got a 2013 Yukon XL 1500, 5.3L with 353k miles. Works very well. Just has the classic valve lifter tick.
All the time are goes away after warmed up ?
@@jacobsebastien3910 during idle mainly you can hear it. Not all the time. No check engine lights. Just the noise. Usually when it's warmed up
I just sold a 2002 Tahoe Z71 after driving for 15 years. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned.
I had an 02 suburban lt that had 323,000 miles when I traded it for my 07 Tahoe. I can confirm that they don't make em like they used to.other than a wheel bearing, and brakes, the burb didn't give me any issues. I took the family on a 300 mile trip with it,, and got 22mpg. All the lifters collapsed with 145,000 on the tahoe because of the eco mode. 1st year of it.
Got a 2003 Impala. I’m trying to learn how to work on cars. At 184,000 miles. I was able to do the struts, the tensioner, the serpentine belt, The power steering, the alternator, brakes and rotors with little to no help. Gave me hope I’ll be able to work on a new car from the beginning so all maintenance will be done by me instead of putting it in someone else’s hand.
I love my 2006 Z71. Has 140K miles and still running like a top. Crap fuel mileage, can’t haul a lot, lacks a little power(5.3 all aluminum) but this thing will get me where ever i need to go. Dependability outweighs everything. Love your videos, very informative.
How does a 5.3 Z71 lack power?
@@robertjebediahfreeman Not sure on how or why because I barely drive it. I think it has 240HP and 180 TQ. Hell my ZX14R had 200HP stock and it was a 4 cyl.
Example: My wifes Silverado with the 6.2 gas will pull our toy hauler loaded, better than mine (with the 5.3) pulling a 14’ open trailer with 3 dirt bikes on it🤣😂. I’m actually wondering if i have transmission problems that i cant feel🤷♂️.
Either way, i love the truck but just don’t pull anything with it.
@@BigDaveTALKS 240 hp and 180 torque can’t be right. A 2006 chevy 5.3 Z71 has 295 horsepower and 335 lb ft torque which is plenty of power
@@robertjebediahfreeman yeah that sounds more like it. Well all i can say is maybe my expectations are a little too high because i drive a 17k lb diesel truck for work and that’s what i am used to. This thing moves faster than my Chevy 🤣.
When i am in the Texas hill country( or highway overpass) with the dirt bikes and trailer the transmission doesn’t come out of 3rd unless going down hill. The power is fine but the torque is sheeeIT. I’m just going to rebuild it and trans for more torque. Or, i have a 600HP engine in my game room i can put in it🤣🤣. Haha NOT that cam is so wild i had to use a vacuum pump just to have brakes. It is a custom cam made by Dave Crower
Yeah, my GF drives an 05 Tahoe with 265,000 miles and it's still going strong
And it's big enough to get it on in! Lol
I’ve got a 2004 Chevy suburban with over 500,000 miles on it. Original engine and transmission. Still runs and drives fantastic.
My dad has a 2014 Chevy Silverado LT with 270,000 miles (5.3L). The only thing he's done to it was a transmission and regular maintenance. He overloaded it hot shotting across the country.
My parents bought a 95 Chevy suburban brand new when my older sister was born. It lasted over 20 years and finally gave out with nearly 200 thousand miles. The head gasket blew. We could have fixed it but with the mileage the damage effectively rendered it totalled. Miss that thing. I live in Houston where Scotty does and that thing took us to Florida, Louisiana, Colorado. My friend has a 2014 GMC Sierra and it’s only got 60k miles and it’s already been through a transmission. I wish there quality control was still good because they used to make stellar vehicles.
Should've just got it fixed. Got my head gasket fixed and I'm still driving it every day ten years later. The repair is the price of like 3-4 months of car payments. Better than 4-5 years of car payments for a new one.😉
Theyre not building cars to last, they dont want you running these things past 6 years. Its a bad business decision. They want you to buy the car new. They want you to bring the car to the dealer for maintenance. Then they want you to trade it back to the dealer (at 30 to 50k) to buy a new car. Then they want the 2nd owner who most likely bought it used from used the dealer to also take it to the dealer for maintenance. Once hes done and trades it at 75-100k his for next used car then they MAYBE resell it on the lot or just cut it and send it to the auction. At that point, theyre done. The money in used parts sold to napa and what not is NOTHING compared to what they make on the first two people who bring to the dealer.

These were freaking awesome.
How many GM trucks of this body style do we see on the road these days? A LOT!
Rip them
I've had my 14 Silverado, it has 100k on it and I go off-road all the time. It has the z71 package and other than the injector recall I've had no issues and I love it.
How many trans you passed through?
well at 100k miles you should not have any problems.
Where was it manufactured?

‘08 Silverado with 335,000 on it, had it since new and still going strong!
Had my 2009 Silverado Z71 literally all over the Country...I’m in the Navy. Up Mountain Trails, through the desert, and moved my family several times with it. I finally traded it in for a GMC Sierra. It’s how you take care of them.
The 2000 to 2002 Tahoe and Suburban has the most comfortable interior and ride. Love my 2001 Tahoe with 220k miles.
I own a 2000 Chevy Silverado with 288,000 miles. Still a very dependable and simple truck.
Miss my Dad's 2001 Silverado. Yeah the 4.8 leaked oil from every orifice, but it was kept up with and went 254k miles before the body and frame rust took it off the road.
