Thank you so much! I'm getting my B6 from the junkyard and this video really helped!
Amazing Video Will. Detailed and Simplified Thank you!!
You’re giving me some great ideas for the 95 aspire I just bought 😅
I like this car alot
Great stuff Will!
Thank you for this GREAT video tutorial on swapping a b6 into a Festiva. I am engine shopping for a b6 now to put in my '89. Carburetor though.😊
For a Carby Festiva, you can only use a 1st Gen SOHC B6 from an 87-89 Mazda 323 or Mercury Tracer. That way you can use your carb intake from the B3
You are the man Will!!!
Harika iscilik tebrik ederim.

Happy to subscribe
you're a stud!! great video
Nice! Do a video for the 1.8 BP next?
Probably not, I'm not a fan of the BP. Next Engine guide will be a B6T swap
Wow! Awesome video man. I just gladly subscribed to your channel from ESA. I got my first car which is a festiva 89 and I was thinking on buying a new engine which would be a mazda E5 1.5L Turbo. Just wondering if that would be a good idea to do this swap?
The E5T is older and won't bolt in quite right. A B5 though would be a direct fit
Great Video Thank You. What kind of difference performance-wise with the B6 over the B3 stock engine?
Just subscribed 🤘 Thank you for your knowledge! Do you charge to do this can of swaps? Just asking 😁✌
Sadly I don't have time to do work for other people these days
@@SametIndustries I'm sitting between the fence about this swap (easiest) or t
Slightly turbo the B3, what would be your personal thoughts? I'm thinking 5 psi
@@pibe8761 I would absolutely not turbo the B3. The head and piston design leads to major lean spots, it almost never ends well.
Are the DOHC mounts from the GTX no longer available?
@@Rumnhammer no longer available, along with the Australian B5 mounts
Really enjoyed the information you put out now have me thinking on swapping a ford festiva I have! I need help on a quick question to turbo a b6d engine what ecu would you think to use? Since there wasnt a ecu for the b3 that I could find to control the fuel and air.
My main goal was to use the b3 knowing it wasn't going to last but still going for it had the whole set up for the turbo just no point since wont be making no power hoping you could give me pointers for my project .
I would look for a full B6T factory setup from a Capri XR2. That way you have the stuff you need. The proper trans, the wiring, the Turbo, and the ECU
Do i still need to do those modifications if i put b6 SOHC in my Festiva?
The 1st gen 8V SOHC B6 (88/9 323 and Tracer) is much simpler, it just bolts in, it's a direct swap. It's usually recommended to use the B6 VAF and ECU from the donor car, they plug right in.
16v SOHC B6 requires a little work to make the intake fit since it's a different shape. Usually people get a smaller battery and put the VAF on top of where the big battery used to be.
Ohh i see, thank you for answering!
@@cheronnnz420 no problem
Excellent video. Do you know if this will work with an b6d from a mx3? Thinking about the ecu mainly.
The MX3 uses the B6DE, which has quite a few differences, primarily the Intake shape, which makes it a difficult fit into a Festiva without custom mounting the whole drivetrain forward.
You can still do the B3 distributor and injectors into the B6DE system like this guide, but it may not run as well vs swapping in the MX3 VAF, ECU, and associated misc wiring changes.
We don't do that with the B6D because A. It runs well on Festiva electronics and B. The B6D distributor fails often and has zero replacement parts available anymore
Ok. Thanx for the answer. Guess I've to live with the b3 for a while then😊 It's extremely limited amounts of b6d in Sweden and I found an mx3 in a scrapyard so I thought maybe maybe....
So if I followed this, the only parts needed from the Capri are: Block, Intake, fuel rail, IAC, & Exhaust manifold. The rest comes from the B3?
Yes, you use the B3 Alt, mounts, distributor, injectors, and wiring
Was there ever such a thing as a fwd 2jz?
Yes a Mitsubishi eclipse..
This video was fantastic man! How is the fuel economy on this swap?
Around 35mpg from 42
What is the firing order?
Rather than use the b3 throttle body, could you just just the b6d throttle body with the TPS from the b3 mounted on it? My TPS have 2 different plugs, but the mounting brackets are the same. The b3 throttle body looks like its more restrictive.
If you use feeler gauges to set it properly, you could potentially change it.
The restriction in size won't really matter for power unless you are switching to a standalone ECU though, which would require a different TPS anyway.
@@SametIndustriesI'm going to go either megasquirt or speeduino later on. Im starting to wonder if I should just do it now though while everything is out of the car.
@@austinpetemo Yea, now is the time. You'll want a B6T TPS, or a custom one with an adapter. The 3 wire ones aren't full sweep, which you need for Mega/Speeduino
if ibought a ford capri and just took the motor out would it just be a straight drop in motor but with modified engine mounts?
As long as it's the NA Dual cam like in this video, then this guide is all you need. Since you say Ford Capri though, I assume you are in Australia, and the RHD brake booster may be in the way with the DOHC
Will. Any other engine besides B3 for us AT guys!
Any swap that uses the stock manual trans can also use the stock auto trans, it bolts up the same
Question are you going to lower the ford festiva anytime soon?
This one already was lowered, but I will be doing a coilover guide eventually yes
Does this work on the Ford Aspire too?
The process is very similar yes, at least for 94/5. Changes may need to be made for OBD2 models.
Will I have a 1989 festiva what year did your b6d come out of I've got a 1990 festiva I'm using as a donor car that I'm swapping all my wiring over so I've got that part figured out just got to figure out what year Mazda I've got to find
In the US, the B6D only came in the 91-94 Mercury Capri
@@SametIndustries thanks brother good video btw
Do you recommend any piston rings for the b3 motors I've got a good running 1990 but I believe the rings are going bad 340k miles it's time lol
There are pretty much no good rings left for the B3 sadly
WILL I have a 93 5 speed no a/c stock...someone here is selling me a mazda DOHC 16 valve...they say its from a 92-95 protege 1.8... is this the easy swap B6 ? id say it is maybe 1.5?i need the easiest swap engine
That would be the BP, its a 1.8, and a little harder to make the mount for. There is a full guide on the forums though.
awesome video! Do you think a BPT swap would be much different?
Yes, it is a ton different. You would need to do a bunch of wiring, a different transmission, custom mounts all the way around, radiator relocation, and more
@@SametIndustries Sounds like NA is the way to go then huh?
@@nimbly1693 just depends on your power goals & fabrication abilities
Hi will, did you used the same b3 ECU?
Yes, factory B3 ECU and wiring harness
hello again guys… do you know what year ford aspires suspension will be swap compatible for festiva?
All Aspires use the same suspension, 94-97. There are a a few threads on the Facebook page that talk about what springs to use where for a lift.
@@SametIndustries thanks. so that excludes the 1993 year aspire?
There is no 1993 Aspire, 1993 was still Festiva
And the gearbox transmission is compatible
Yes all B series engines bolt to all B trans
Define/describe B6?
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_B_engine
what size are the wheels at the end of the video? are those 13''?
15x7, they will not fit a Festiva without coilovers.
Here's a fitment guide I made

It's in the description, 1991 - 94 Mercury Capri in the US
Did you restore the Capri?
@@matthewmoore661 No, most of the engines I pulled were from scrapped Capris
the rail looks to be the sames as the aspire
They are similar
Does the b6 engine have the same rocker exhaust and intake shaft as the b3?
No, the DOHC doesn't use rockers like the SOHC B3
Is there a place that you can find the rocker shafts for the b3 engine?
