Me too as I have 2 of the 3 with Fans Toys on the way once they bill me. Cartoon accuracies would go to XTB as he's very clean and his back pack and butt flap are more accurate. He's also way more accurate in alt mode. Fans Toys wins on build and paint. I was never a core robot Magnus fan but, I got FT because of it. I also really like how FT paints their figures. If I didn't have to put down $30 for the preorder, I'd probably cancel FT as he doesn't blow me away enough. Can't wait for their Optimus Prime though as he looks fantastic in pictures.
The FT face sculpt and proportions appeal to me more, plus I love that they actually pulled off of the Power Convoy gimmick. Lucky for me, I also really like aspects of the original toy, so once FT Margh was announced I snatched up the XTB Youth Version; now I get to enjoy the best of both worlds.
The FansToys has screw hole covers but that's the only thing it does better from the back than the XTB, in my opinion. The XTB has blue calves going all the way to the knee, rather than a grey/dicast lower knee joint. Plus, the FT has a much larger backpack that is *really* noticeable from the side, whereas the XTB has a fairly proportional back. So for Sculpt I'd give it to XTB. I still don't understand why the opinions of members gives the casting vote to give one product the 'win' over another when the review is supposed to be objective as possible (allowing that there is always some subjectivity), as member's opinions are the exact opposite of an objective category. But I also understand that it's a thing you do and you'll keep including it, so I'll keep mentally removing it from the scorecard. With my change to the Sculpt scoring, XTB takes the win 5-3 (with Takara also scoring 3 [or 4, if Cost is included], which is interesting).
I didn't understand how XTB's offer got marked off for the screw holes at the back, but FT went completely scot free for not just the backpack (I get that this is unavoidable sometimes), but the fact that the core bot is still very much visible. I also agree with the "members option", because they are clearly biased.
I have the second release of XTB Magnus which I’m fortunate it doesn’t have arm or hip skirt issues. Other than the head articulation, I think it’s great. I still got FT version ordered from showz. The paint job looks to be great.
I disagree on the engineering. I think the XTB, with the understanding that the transformation is quite a challenge, pulled off some black magic fitting an entire truck cab the same size as the MP Optimus cab inside the chest. I'm happy with my choice since I don't really like the FM core robot gimmick since he was never seen like that in the cartoon, but they always take the cake on paint. Regardless, this is definitely a win for the Ultra Magnus fans.
I still love the bulky Juggernaut(from the X-Men) look of Takara. When it comes to the “modern” Third Party versions, it all depends on if you like Fanstoys homage to the original G1 toy with the white Optimus Prime OR X-Transbots “cartoon accurate” Magus that doesn’t have the white Optimus. Me personally, I never cared for the White Optimus Prime wearing Magnus armor. So I’d buy the X-Transbots version. Both X-Transbots and Fanstoys are great interpretations by the way. 👍🏼

Thanks Sony for the comparison. Transformers has dropped in my priority so I decided to save some money and go with xtb instead. I can get it for 164 usd shipped compared to 230 usd so thats a huge savings especially when i convert to CAD currency which is almost 100 CAD. Just can't justify that price when both products look good and are very close. I also don't care about the core robot version and would never display him like that anyways. Thanks again, you helped me with my choice and saved me some money 😅
I have the FM-02 Margh on pre-order, and I prefer that version simply for the white cab Ultra Magnus individual robot, it's the main reason why I waited until someone finally made that version, as it more accurately matches the G1 toy, which I am more for toy style than toon style
2:09 I see you got that right this time! 😜 Also, regardless if it's toon accurate or not, yes, XTB does have disproportionately long ape-like arms, that was one of the main reasons why I sided with FT. Other than that, it's a really nice fig.
I own the XTB version. They got the face wrong. The XTB face looks too much like the homeless ghost from the subway that taught Patrick Swayze how to move objects in the movie Ghost.

Great video as always! I think I'll go with the FT, I like the more athletic look, I think it looks more heroic. From watching your other videos though, the transformation of the cab is horrific. I can see me doing it back and forth one time just to do it, and then leaving it in robot mode forever. Maybe putting it in core robot mode sometimes. That said, after transforming Inquisitor into space-whatever mode, I have yet to work up to transforming him back....!
I agree I like the look of FansToys the best but yeah I own the X-Transbots already and for me it’s not worth getting the FansToys. If I had mad money, sure.
I like the paint on fanstoys magnus but thats pretty much it the shoulders look too small the feet are weird and all that but i also dont fully like the xtb blue chest guard it looks too thin but for me xtb just looks better
Thanks for the comparison! Once the FT comes in, I think I'm simply going to keep the other two as well. Yes, it's a bit much to have three Masterpiece scale samples of one character, but.... I won't sell the Takara. And X-TB has hinges on the chest and a split over the lower arms, while FT has those annoying flipping panels on the upper legs. X-TB is more cartoon accurate, FT has the more heroic proportions. I just can't choose between the two, neither are 100% perfect but they're both oh so close 😅
If we go buy the 86 movie, Margh is actually the most toon accurate out of the three, but if were just comparing the Floro Dery design picture, it most likely resembles XTB
Because of prior reputation Fans Toys will always win despite their last several flops and ridiculous prices. They are the McDonalds of third party transformers. No matter how bad it gets someone will still buy.
The FT and the XTB being so close in the final score, and the categories they won being so close? This tells me it'll really boil down to whether you prefer the core+armor or the all-in-one transformation. So of course I have to have both. Because I have an addiction to expensive plastic.
The Takara one is more toyetic in nature just like MP10 was when it first came out. Looks wise I think FT has the better porpotions but XTB has the better face.
First, incredible review. You do an amazing job as always! Second, that was way closer than I thought and it now has me considering on keeping commander stack. Third I would chalk the core robot as a gimmick considering the other two did not do that. Fourth, do you consider UM as a parts former with a bit under neath the armor or do you see him as a complete bot just with extra accessories?
Transformation and Build are easily the most important characteristics for a 'transformer', that really is meant to be played with and not just thrown on a shelf to never be touched. If you can get a 9 year old figure, built amazingly by KO company 'Toy House Factory' for half the price of any of these figures, IDK why anyone would opt for swapping out the original Takara mold for one of these two that will literally break or make you lose your mind during transformation.
To be fair a lot of people don’t flip back and forth between MP transformers. Most people are getting it for the robot mode and like the idea of being able to transform it if they wanted to.But yea in terms of a transformer I guess takara takes it.
What I like with the fantoys is the white robot inside, it looks very cool, the final ultra magnus mode also looks great on a shelf. so if you never going to transform it I would get the fanstoys. I would vote for the Takara though, The tansformation gives more then 1 point . It should get 2-3 points for that. its that good, it also looks great on the shelf, I like that he´s a big boy. The build quality of the x-transbot would never get in to my shelf no matter if he looks good just knowing he sucks in build is enough. well made video! great job!
Same figure and since takara already won the price there's no point. A ko will never be as good as an official either (I do have some good kos but the official is always better).
@@sigerlion8608 I honestly haven't seen that many & have had quite a few over the years. Think the biggest KO winners would be the YesModel MP11 KOs since the Takara got so bad by the time of the coneheads. That & the Takara Hound that could crumble just sitting on a shelf. Otherwise...meh
@@jw7463 You also don't get many KOs. Nearly all of Baiwei's stuff are all superior to the original. For example, they made the ugly Buzzworthy bumblebee Optimu's truckbed clean, made the smokestacks turnable to the right direction, and gave a ton of accessories on top of that along with diecast at half the price. I don't have time to waste on explaining different KOs to a bunch of people who clearly do not have sufficient experience with KOs but THINK they do.
@@sigerlion8608 To be fair I'm only going off conventional Masterpiece KOs since that's related to the video subject matter & what I've experienced. Had most if not all of YM Seekers, Ironhide, Ratchet, Wheeljaack, Prowl, THF & RH soundwave KOs, IT & THF Megatron KOs. Chasing MP-52 varient KOs right now to swap out the DS seekers since they've disappeared & won't be releasing new ones. Have the hound & THF UM KOs. That sufficient?
Yeah not enough for me to get. I have enough white primes. I appreciate ft for honoring the og toy but in the cartoon there was no white prime that came later in comics cannon. Regardless the xtb is as toon as as it gets. Thanks for the review
Definitely did XTB dirty here by not showing all the joints and you could easily get him under $200 at a lot of places. I know you gave him articulation anyways, but if this is to inform people which one they might want, that might be important. And as for sculpting, I really hate how FT's feet look when tilted, and of course having to detach his torso to articulate it ain't pretty. Oh well.
You're surprised? This dirtbag is a confirmed fansboi...he'll drop down and suck the chrome off a fanstoy in a second...that's why this is not a valid comparison video or anything of the sort...bad channel.
I can't imagine paying the premium for the Fans Toys figure. If money were no object, maybe, but money is always a consideration for me when it comes to purchasing Masterpiece Transformers.
so am i understanding this right, you give build quality point to Takara for the transformation and then also give them a point for the transformation? also ignoring that Margh has the gimmick of armor/core bot so that would be a tie
I want to love FTs because of the Armor Gimmick, but it Failed in Alt mode. I would rather have FTs Bot mode, No Inner bot Gimmick and have a Superior Alt mode. Well looks like that pretty much discribes XTB. Magic Square and New Age hurry the hell up. LOL
Fanstoys is producing some really disappointing alt modes recently. I think the FansToys looks good in bot mode, but I think the XTB looks better all-around, and the better articulation puts it over the top. I really don't care about the core robot, so that helps. The Takara is the only one that's fun to transform though.
I upgraded to the XTB version from Takara, and I am more than satisfied with it. To me, FT just took the XBT version and tweaked it a little...it's basically the same bot. So I won't be spending any more $$ on an Ultra Magnus figure.
Fans Toys is too slender, XTB has the 86 mold down especially with the hockey goalie look & also like the aesthetical big rubber wheel foot look. Flip FTs inside out for robot mode...XTB all day ftw.
FT and XTB have a joy-killer transformation process, but I find FA's a little more frustrating, Takara's , is more fun in all modes, only problem is the lack of articulation on the waist and shoulders.
Great Review, and Excellent Comparison. I realize that it has been years, BUT, for such a Massive Corporation, you would think that HasBlo TT should be Embarrassed, after all they are supposed to be the PREMIERE of the Transforming World. Yet, get beat so often it's become the norm. Hasblo TT doesn't have Quality to Boast about. They sometimes have Engineering. They do NOT have Price Point. They rarely have Gimmicks. They do NOT have Character Selection. Yet, HasBlo TT have ZERO Problem kicking out the same character in several iterations. Prime and Starscream being the most notable. Anytime you PAY through the Nose for a Character Figure, you EXPECT Perfection, yet HasBlo TT rarely comes through. HasBlo TT's UM had it's breif few minutes in the Sun. XTB did an Excellent job, only to be usurped by FT, but that's debatable as well. I Love FT, took me awhile, but after my first few purchases, they won me over. Now if only XTB could keep their game up. Interesting in the Votes 26 for FT 15 for XTB 3 for TT
Transformation for XTB actually isn't bad. He's got a lot of panels because his trailer transforms into him, like how TT does but, much better. It's not a transformation you can do in 10 minutes but, it's not as complicated as it looks. You've just got to be careful as the panels are thin in some spots. I've transformed him 4 times and he's still good. I'm more surprised by how complicated FT is as it's just the cab portion.
No transformation is that bad once you get it down. But TT is super easy (like kindergarten easy and no paint plus it wasn't pointed out but TT also can have the mini figs drive the alt mode.) Xtransbots is a bit more complex but super floppy between modes and a lot of space is needed (not to mention parts breaking tabs and arms falling off and paint rubbing off.).
@@saysoun752 yeah it is just very tedious on XTB, as they always do, try to nail both alt and robot mode, but comes with the cost of more than complex transformation. I like their car bots just because it's acceptable complexity, but this one is just too much for me. Still it is a great pick if I want to display in robot mode imo.
Thank you again for the versus, fantastic job. The fans toys ultra magnus is amazing and the inner robot is what really got me. The xtb is great too but I'm glad I held off buying it. I do think fans toys should lose a point just because margh is such an awful name. Just kidding but it is bad.
Great VS. Lol in 95% of your videos FT's always wins so why have them and your members will always vote FT's. I understand its for the buyers, it seems to push them more towards FT. Be blessed
Lol because Fanstoys is normally the best out there. It's like saying you like dodge and want to know why Lamborghini always wins in the comparison videos. And if money isn't the a factor then we would all buy Fanstoys.
@ericpoulin7922 i can agree with some of that and disagree dodge viper can hold it's own with lamborghini ( eventually, they will both break down, but one will be cheaper to repair than the other). But it's being judge off of paint 🤔. Now what if FT didnt do alot of paint everywhere then what. Also putting paint everywhere is not a good thing (paint chips) when transforming it and when collecting a MP 80% of the collectors aren't transforming them and for the other 20% that do transform them will start to complain and that group voice isn't heard. Basically you just can't base everything off of paint. Be blessed
@@barbarianlostatsea really dude? Xtb reputation is what they did to themselves. They have the worst QC of any high end collectible company out there for any line. Not just transformers. I like their products and will continue to buy them, but I know theres a 50% chance I’ll be needing replacement parts or have to swap the figure out.
I used to watch your videos, but I stopped because you are a fanstoys lover. Today I wanted to give you another chance, but since you said that fanstoys has a better back and face than xtb, I paused the video and stopped watching it. I didn't want to watch any more because I knew that fanstoys would win. I have both and even though it's hard for me to admit, xtb did a better job. I will continue watching emgo and benscollectables because they are more even-handed when giving their opinion.
FansToys has too many issues for my liking, as usual. XTB has the nightmare fuel transformation, and I don't think that they're ever beating anybody at build quality. And Takara, or rather the Toy House Factory KO, the robot mode may be entirely too large (a mistake they would later repeat with SS86-21 Ultra Magnus)...it seems like it's otherwise the way to go.
Ill wait for the KO of the FT version. I currently have the THF hyper magnum, and it does away with the gigantic butt flap by folding it into his back. And his vehicle mode is easier than both.
Will never be a FT ko of this mark my words. It was a couple figures from a disgruntled former employee. There was only tthree kos of Fanstoys ever made.
You talk about X-TRANSBOTS build quality but you fail to mention that both his arms are held by a single screw if you turn his arms six to eight times forward his arm will literally fall off x TRANSBOTS it's garbage I don't even know why you doing a comparison
I'm not going to compare the Takara one since it's completely out of date and I have no interest whatsoever in that TF AFigure. I also don't use the same basis to compare TF AFigures so I'm using mine. 01- Bot mode look FT 02- Accuracy XTB (because of the back and because when I think accuracy I think about the original cartoon and in it Ultra Magnus had no armor) 03- Build/Hardware FT 04- Paint/Materials FT 05- Gimmicks FT (both the fact that the FT includes the white Prime and has detachable missiles are gimmicks and in my opinion way better ones than light and sound) 06- Articulation XTB (just because of the feet) 07- Engineering FT (it includes the white Prime, just because I counted it in the gimmicks category it doesn't mean I can't count it here yet again specially since the fact the white Prime had to be engineered too) 08- Transformation Tie 09- Alt mode goes to XTB 10- Price FT (at the place where I bought them the XTB was $199.99, the FT is $229.99 and for $30 more The FT includes the white Prime,) Total: FT=07; XTB=04 I hope you enjoy my opinion TMReviews, I enjoyed yours. Thanks for the comparison.
Xtb has double jointed arms that extend I’m sure you knew I thought and the legs also have that hidden extending double joint
Woops, I'm gonna get a ton of comments, but they already won articulation so it doesn't matter. I'm pinning this in hopes that people read and see it
I think this is a win for Ultra Magnus fans. Whichever one of these you buy, you're getting a great figure.
But all have their issues

I prefer the Fans Toys as the X Trans it’s a bit weird with the arms and thin thighs. But they’re all good.
The build quality of the x-transbot would never get in to my shelf no matter if he looks good just knowing he sucks in build is enough. well made video! great job!
Should have thrown in the KO MP THF-04 Ultra Magnus with the fixed butt flap. ;) Would have won the price point at $75.
Same figure and since takara already won the price there's no point. A ko will never be as good as an official either (I do have some good kos but the official is always better).
@@ericpoulin7922 There are plenty of KOs that are better than the official. You just don't have them.
Prefer the look/styling of Fanstoys but Im never transforming that thing lol 😅.
Damm, Magnus really cut down on his protein & creatine intake over the years 😄
As always, X-Transbots has the best alt mode.
Nah i put my TT already back in its box which will just become a collection piece. Xtrans in truck mode FT in bot mode. Thats what im doing with mine
I can't imagine paying the premium for the Fans Toys figure. If money were no object, maybe, but money is always a consideration for me when it comes to purchasing Masterpiece Transformers.
I would get fans toys and xtransbots. The latter in the red toy version
So Takara wins it on transformation? I'm not surprised.
This was the review I was waiting for! Thank you TM. This is a really well done video.
XTB for G1, FT for Headmasters 😁
so am i understanding this right, you give build quality point to Takara for the transformation and then also give them a point for the transformation? also ignoring that Margh has the gimmick of armor/core bot so that would be a tie
LOL
Great review and comparison of the 3. Thank u!
Great review, Sony
Fanstoys is producing some really disappointing alt modes recently.
I think the FansToys looks good in bot mode, but I think the XTB looks better all-around, and the better articulation puts it over the top. I really don't care about the core robot, so that helps.
The Takara is the only one that's fun to transform though.
love your work .... where didi you the back filler for combine mobe aerialbots ?
Great comparison, Sony! The best character on the screen is always you.
@@polarisrustinpeace1797 aww
With all due respect, no way you said that the FT version was the cleanest... so much of the core bot is showing.
the fans win
I upgraded to the XTB version from Takara, and I am more than satisfied with it. To me, FT just took the XBT version and tweaked it a little...it's basically the same bot. So I won't be spending any more $$ on an Ultra Magnus figure.
This video just confirms that these companies just keep giving us the same thing over and over and over and over again.
Fans Toys is too slender, XTB has the 86 mold down especially with the hockey goalie look & also like the aesthetical big rubber wheel foot look. Flip FTs inside out for robot mode...XTB all day ftw.
agreed
Fans Toys?! Margh has been made by Fantastic Model - not by Fans Toys. You should change the video title to rectify that, TMReviews.
Interesting in the Votes
26 for FT
15 for XTB
3 for TT
I love this channel ❤😊
I dont like that xtb doesnt allow the cab off on alt mode. TT had an all in one but still allowed the cab to separate via a button.
Because of the terrible transformation of both ft and xtransbot, TT still wins in my mind.
Also TT and FT are the only options to have the cab off
@@saysoun752 yeah it is just very tedious on XTB, as they always do, try to nail both alt and robot mode, but comes with the cost of more than complex transformation.
Be blessed
Do you buy MP scale bots and determine what’s the best for each character? I do and Fanstoys wins almost every time.
Because he's a Fanstoy shill and loves to shit on XTB.
You can't tie the price to make xtb get extra points.
Thank God, I'm so happy you decided to move on instead of leaving a long comment about how you aren't going watch any more
It's so cool that they engineered a core robot that can't stand up. So innovative.
I feel like the fans toys stands on its own, like it comes down of you like an armor vs the all in one.
I'm using my Takara for alt mode, FTs for bot mode, no competition.
Vehicle mode on Fans Toys is not accurate at all, which should disqualify it. You buy FT for core gimmick.
Did you even watch?
Fanstoys really impressed me with Margh. I think the core robot counts as a gimmick, doesn't it?
Great review, but not giving fanstoys the gimmick category is crazy since the whole bot is based on the white prime gimmick.
@@ryanem49 I called that engineering instead of gimmick, oh well
FT UM Needs a white gun. XTB came with blue already
You talk about X-TRANSBOTS build quality but you fail to mention that both his arms are held by a single screw if you turn his arms six to eight times forward his arm will literally fall off x TRANSBOTS it's garbage I don't even know why you doing a comparison
He mentioned it and said he fixed it on this version and said they already lost in the build category.
I literally said this exact thing lol
You realize that this was fixed on reissues?
I'm not going to compare the Takara one since it's completely out of date and I have no interest whatsoever in that TF AFigure.
I also don't use the same basis to compare TF AFigures so I'm using mine.
01- Bot mode look FT
02- Accuracy XTB (because of the back and because when I think accuracy I think about the original cartoon and in it Ultra Magnus had no armor)
03- Build/Hardware FT
04- Paint/Materials FT
05- Gimmicks FT (both the fact that the FT includes the white Prime and has detachable missiles are gimmicks and in my opinion way better ones than light and sound)
06- Articulation XTB (just because of the feet)
07- Engineering FT (it includes the white Prime, just because I counted it in the gimmicks category it doesn't mean I can't count it here yet again specially since the fact the white Prime had to be engineered too)
08- Transformation Tie
09- Alt mode goes to XTB
10- Price FT (at the place where I bought them the XTB was $199.99, the FT is $229.99 and for $30 more The FT includes the white Prime,)
Total: FT=07; XTB=04
I hope you enjoy my opinion TMReviews, I enjoyed yours.
Thanks for the comparison.
Transformers Takara is the best 😡
Prefer the look/styling of Fanstoys but Im never transforming that thing lol 😅.
