My best guess is that the G1 PMOP core vehicle/Ginrai was mostly based on a 1979.5-1984.5 Freightliner FLL-8642-T Set Back Front Axle (Axle) Single Drive Tiltline sleeper cabover tractor, but with higher, older door handles. The 86 was for the sleeper cab, and the 42 was for the single rear axle. The door handles look more like 1975 or older. Original Optimus Prime's tractor design was mostly based on an FLT, which had the wheels and front axle right under the seats, which forced the cabin floor and seats way up high, and required the ladder to be mounted behind the axle, wheels, and doors. Occupants had to climb up the ladders, then swing over to a step above the wheel wells, and then climb even higher up into the cabin. This was an awkward process for a lot of people. But the SBFA style cab moved the axle and wheels behind the seats, which sometimes allowed the cabin floor and seats to be lowered closer to the ground, and also allowed a frontal ladder to climb straight up into the cab. No more climbing behind the wheel and then swinging over the wheel. This SBFA style was especially useful for OG garbage workers who used to have to repeatedly climb in and out of garbage trucks all day to physically handle trash cans. They could just climb straight up, and often do it over a shorter height. A problem with KFC's design here is that they went back to a set forward front axle FLT style of cabin like G1 Optimus, instead of the proper FLL SBFA tractor cab. Also, KFC stretched the truck lower chassis and frame which made the bot thighs and calves longer, which makes the bot taller. That's probably why KFC Raijin is so much taller than the MP Primes.
This seems like yet another XTB release where other colors or a second run will be substantially improved over the first release. I can't imagine punishing your early adopters is a good business model, but I guess it works for the videogame industry.
Good thing Ginrai alone seems to have no major issues, I will wait to see if a v2 trailer or replacement parts are announced because I'm not sure on my luck when it comes to QC
I was actually on the fence on buying this, but you set me straight LMAO!!! If they could get their act together they would be a contender in the space.
After about 10-15mins of me trying to figure out how to put Ginrai in his truck cab I came to your video to see if I can get an idea. You didn’t mention it here but I figured it out. You have to flip up his feet backwards and his legs will slide right in. If you notice, he has tabs on the sides of his legs. The inside Cab door has a space for the tab on his leg to fit in so that the door closes all the way. Beautiful figure, I wasn’t even thinking about getting this till I seen the trailer on sale so I said F it. Waiting for that to get delivered so I can compare to Fanshobby’s version.
I just canceled mine while watching this. Thank you for that. I do like this figure, but I see they need to fix all the issues before I get mine. And I just got the Fans Hobby Super Ginrai, and I'm pleased with it.
Good review, was fair to be honest. With the opening video from the other day, i was expecting you to be take a negative view about this guy, but you was spot on. GD video.
21:21 It has one click forward in the knee because in some scenes Ginrai stood like that. It wasn't a common occurrence in Anime but it's worth mentioning.
Looks very awesome, nails the look better than the official but of course KFC finish QC hurts it. Those knees….I have a feeling they may have a knee ratchet upgrade that will come with Godbomber Armor. It’s very much needed…I want the KFC version but I’ll wait to see how it looks and handles completed with the armor.
I picked these up. One thing I think you forgot when putting the cab in robot mode was that there are 4 clamps for the arm panels, not just the top two. There are two at the waist (one on each side) too.
The face on the combined mode is a nod to the original comic. In the final battle with Unicron Powermaster Prime Sacrifices himself blowing up Unicron. In the aftermath, Primes mangled body is found and that’s how his face looks.
Looking Forward to the Full Comparison. As per usual, great review. I am hoping FansHobby will ReStock their Nemesis Prime version. I always KFC would UP their ante. Sometimes they are GREAT. Most of the time they Fall just Short of being able to compete with FT and others. It's a shame because I do like many of their designs.
@@themanaiacalgamer8451 smaller but not by THAT much. He's about 1 or 1.5 heads shorter than Powerbaser. This makes him about the same height as Takara Ultra Magnus, which is interesting, because T's Magnus didn't do the toy inside a toy gimmick that the OG Magnus did, and which both the OG and MP "Power Master" Primes do. And anyway, this KFC has issues For the same reason that KFC and XTB bots almost always do. They're obnoxiously designed and have so many tolerance, clearance, materials problems. Size just brings it out a bit more.
I hate to be brutal but it looks cheap, feels cheap, and just looks like a cheap kids toy and not an adult collectible figure. Keith and KFC fails yet again, so disappointing
Thank You for showing this Sony...The exact Opposite of FTs Armor Core bot. Great Cab/Inner bot mode, Great Alt mode, Failed Combined mode. Toon to a Fault, Too Toon to too many Faults.
Awesome detailed review as usual!!! But I am SOOOOO glad I have Power Baser. This is horrible looking, the coloring, the PowerMaster is just garbage. Looks like dollar store junk! I love KFC stuff most of the time, but this is 1000000% a no go for me!! Thanks to Dr Diecast for taking the hit on this for us!!!
If iwas a kid i wouls would like to have this than power master optimus prime.. But there are many decent ginrai out there now T think his trailer based on xovergen trailer force
I own the trailer with the 3d printed cab. Mine has stronger knees, so probably improved version. I really hate the collar that does not tab in tightly. I really have zero confidence in KFC and Xtransbots products.
And I thought Takara's LG35 Super Ginrai was a cool but messy affair as a *mainline* figure. KFC/XTB continues to show me why the only figures I want that they made are their Blaster (and the Tape Minions) & Victory Leo. This mofo is a mess, AND it doesn't look as good as Takara's or Fans Hobby's robot mode or Super Mode. (Hell, Takara's mainline one wasn't even show accurate and even THAT looks better than this monstrosity...) Fans Hobby smokes them in vehicle mode, but the robot modes are super chunky. (Ginrai ain't Grand Convoy/Energon Optimus, mans is supposed to be a bit slim, not lookin' like he had one beryllium bologna sammich too many!! 🤣🤣🤣) Takara is just awkward in terms of size. Base Ginrai's already too small, but wait until we get to see God Ginrai up close and personal...he's doomed to be the wrong size as well, considering that he's supposed to be the same size as Starsaber, and that's a thing that Takara's LG35+42 (or LGEX) behemoth done did. Unless they simply screwed the pooch with MP24 Starsaber, too.
Geez, that combined mode is a mess. The off set red colors is awful. The gaps in the top panel look terrible. The weak joints are just unacceptable for the price point.
It really looks US comic power master Optimus /. Fanshobby Power baser looks more anime to me especially in super mode , I’ll stick with Powerbaser. You think KFC will release apex armour?
Not many options at this size but if you’re not into scale, Takara washes this KFC version. I actually think KFC is doing a Powermaster Prime…it doesn’t look like Ginrai. The instability and over engineering…I think makes this a complete failure..you need to be careful with recommendations.
Such a shame. The core robot looks so terrific in both modes I was thinking about getting in on this but that bad combined mode is a deal breaker. It’s like the cab and the trailer were made by entirely different companies. Oh well, still have red and black Power Baser and I’ll watch to see how the Takara one turns out.
Man did they get the materials wrong. To have a stable Ginrai figure the core Optimus has to be light weight, you can’t have too much diecast in him. That diecast needs to be present in the combined mode’s waist and feet and you need much much stronger rachets
I'm good with Power Baser. He fills this character in my collection well enough so I'm not getting any other versions. Nice review as always.
You can lock the abcrunch if you press it and you can also extend the feet if you wigle them left-right.

That is exactly how I feel, punished for buying early
Pretty obvious that the trailer needed more work before release. Ginrai is great, but the combined mode is janky as hell with really weak knees.
Good thing Ginrai alone seems to have no major issues, I will wait to see if a v2 trailer or replacement parts are announced because I'm not sure on my luck when it comes to QC

Thanks man
How was it that we get 2 different Ginrais in a year, both are anime accurate but both have the size wrong??

Without a knee upgrade, there is no way this would handle any more weight

Oops. I spoke too soon. I commented before you brought up the second set of clips. Please disregard. Great review, by the way.
Thanks
So close to perfect... hopefully they revise thr design
Also wondering if the engine gimmick works to unlock the legs like the og, the instructions do mention it, but I haven't gotten it to work yet
No
The cab doesn’t look the greatest, but the way they engineered the back bumper is insane. It actually looks like a truck’s rear bumper

I guarantee Takara will not have these problems.
It's 1/3 the size of this one.
@@themanaiacalgamer8451 No it's not.

@bigfornoreason1 the Takara one is 3.5 inches smaller in combine mode
The smoke stacks make me warried.
I’m a sucker for OP, & thus I’ll buy all versions of Ginrai & Super Ginrai. I’ll wait for a sale for KFCs version though.
I hate to be brutal but it looks cheap, feels cheap, and just looks like a cheap kids toy and not an adult collectible figure. Keith and KFC fails yet again, so disappointing
He also has toe tilt forward
Well, i honestly prefer the Takara MPG (the images look cool, waiting for the release)
The attempt to be "cartoon accurate" in this case does the figure no favors. Powerbaser still reigns supreme and it's not even close.

I'm hoping for an OS KO of the Takara MP.

Waiting to see the MPG first before deciding which to buy.
Great review 👏🏻
All this is why I stayed with power baser
I'm cautious tbh... KFC is known to have shoddy/poor QC.
Aah the lobotomized version of Optimus Prime ! Such a sad end for our Hero
