- So time to make our little VW Golf R more spicey! The MK7 Golf R is my daily driver and needed to wake up. First off a huge shout out to Integrated Engineering for hooking us up with some of their goodies! In This video, we are getting their Cold air intake installed on the Golf with their Carbon Fiber Intake shroud. This thing looks wild and I love it! I wanted to try and get the downpipe on but I don't have a 10mm triple square so we will knock that out in the next one!

Yes! Golf R content! Looking forward to more IE stuff for the car. In my VW days, Neuspeed had a lot of go fast stuff for my 16v and VR6 cars.

Integrated Engineering seem to be the go to brand for high quality Golf R upgrades. Just started researching some gear and they pop up regularly. Anyone else have experience with IE?

Looks fresh!!!!! I'm itching to get a downpipe and intake by IE. How many miles did you put on it before diving in? Is a flash tune required for the intake alone?
Flash tune is not required but I would definitely suggest it 🔥 and definitely worth it if you snag them. By far some of the highest quality parts I've seen 😁
Like you said the ecu learns. So there’s no problem ripping it without a tune. It’s not like a subie. You can even drive with the downpipe without a tune but it’s not the best

@@Smeedia yeah it’s a great platform. Even for like a new Intercooler it’s doesn’t change anything. It also has much more failsafes than subies. I had a 2019 wrx fbo and the R makes soooo much more power easily. They have super low drivetrain loss. My R has like 420 crank hp and I gap like 500hp crank subies

Is it absolutely necessary to remove the spark plugs in order to attach the turbo elbow? I know IE includes that process in their instruction. But I e seen other videos where other name brand turbo Elbows were installed without even touching the spark plugs.
Just curious.
i literally just traded mine in with an IE closed carbon fiber intake, revo catted down pipe, cts bov, cts tmb, dkm stage 3 twin disk clutch, full vwr dampener kit, apr sway bars, bfi shift knob, boost guage, baun fmic, and some other odds and ends

@@Smeedia but on a serious note, check out baun performance. He has the best sounding turbo back on the mk7 and his fmic had me with significantly lower iat over the apr stock location

I have the same intake on my car. Love it. IE is a great choice. If you have easy access to E in your area I would go for their new flex fuel kit. When are you planning to upgrade the clutch?
Clutch has been ordered but is on back order 🙏 and we will be doing Flex and a turbo upgrade as well. Belive it is a hybrid garret

how does the golf compare to the 2017 sti? does it have that "raw" feeling like the sti? is it as fun?
It definitely has the fun factor to it but the Raw feeling is a little muted compared to the STI. The STI is a VERY mechanical feeling car in comparison. But I think the R is a better daily driver for bang for your buck fun and usability

Are you talking about a spline socket? For the down pipe? I had to get a set to do brakes on my Mrs mk5 golf. I’d get a whole set if I was you. There’s lots of spline bolts on our golf

the elbow to the air filter is upside down. The SAI connection should be on the bottom
Does the carbon fiber cover eliminate the rattle at low RPM by actually mounting to the driver's side frontmost portion of the intake?
Haven't tried it without the cover but can co firm there are 0 rattles with this set up 🙏
I did notice the cover made it feel more secure
I have it sometimes where the bottom bounces and makes a rattle on the entrance portion, is that what you mean? I was wondering if something was wrong with it lol

Makes me jealous, lol. The IE for my mk6 doesn’t look that good. I picked up a volant instead. Definitely gonna look deeper at IE though.

Atta boy!!!! IE is, in my opinion the tits! I installed stage1 high torque and tcu tune (dsg), on my 18 R. Such a difference, literally every aspect is better than stock. I can't wait for you to do the dp. That's my next step, I'm sure going from stock to stage2 is going to make you giggle just a little bit. Keep up the great work 👍!

Please replace the pvc box when you do the valve cover. It's a huge failure point. Also not to expensive. But is known to blow the seals out
On my list, gling to replace a few things when we do the gaskets, also going to add in a catch can set up 🔥
Also if ur buying any factory parts and getting oil change kits highly recommend fcp euro they offer lifetime warranty on everything they have

With the amount of work you do a Quick Jack will make it easier (and safer) to lift cars for oil change, tire changes etc etc
Definitely dont have to remove any of the harness or anything else you did to swap the turbo elbow. Takes me less than 5 mins to swap one. Nice video tho!
IE has a flex fuel sensor and tune for that car and it’s only 199$$$$ 👀👀👀

Something dumb that helps increase turbo noise but also will reduce under hood temps is removing that big rubber seal that seals the back of the hood line. My 7.5 sounds better and temps are slightly better.
Interesting, and issues with water intrusion in the engine bay?
@@Smeedia I personally haven't had any issues after ~6 months and plenty of rain driving. I avoid car washes though. It also takes 30 seconds to take off and put on so it would be easy to try out.

The car not being tuned with the intake makes absolutly no difference, hammer on it all you want........it aint a subaru lol.
Still learning thr German side of things, but I know the VW ECU is alot more capable of learning 🔥
@@Smeedia Its just a much better ECU that can adjust for a variety of factors without a tune...basic boltons to really enjoy the car are going to be an intercooler(stock location replacement), downpipe and a stage 2 tune. Intake doesnt make much difference but looks nice and adds to sound for sure, and these cars really do like ethanol....A LOT. Stage 2 e30(downpipe+ic only) cars put down 380-90whp.
Jesus that is one ugly engine, no wonder they give you that huge plastic cover.
