For anyone installing this CAI in 2023 or later, IE now provides two (2) 3M single-sided sticky pads to be placed underneath the tray, which seem to be used prevent rattle noise. I was unable to find updated instruction from IE on this, but it seems most intuitive. Before fully connecting the tray, you can mock place it in the bay and decide where the pads should best belong.
Thanks so much man. That’s means the most to me. You got this. Coolant lines are the most cumbersome part. Just get some rags and be sure to top your coolant off when you’re done.
New subscriber here from Hong Kong. One of the best intake install tutorial on youtube. I am going to get the RacingLine R600 intake soon. This video helps a lot. Bravo DadWagon 🙌
This is a perfect install video. I appreciate the detail and conciseness and the comparison clips at the end. I’ll probably be referring back to this video when I install mine.
Great video ! You did step by step just what I was looking for cause I ordered exact the same one and I wasn’t sure how to do it but thanks to you I got this 👍
loving theese videos, I just bought a 2016 Golf Sportswagon R-line 1.4L tsi, not as strong engine as yours but im thinking of doing some of theese modifications in the future!
@@DadWagon I got it and slapped it in this week... I did the IE Turbo Inlet at the same time. A few tricky parts but for this noob it wasn't even bad. The whooshing is awesome. I find myself stomping on it and letting off, over and over... Now I just need to go to stage 2 on the GTI.
You were right! Really no problem sat all, though I did break the hose clamp for the upper coolant line (I felt it wasn’t crimping tight enough as I could pull the hose off the barb with the clamp on). I ended up re-using one of the factory ones with the same effect, but it doesn’t seem to leak. *shrug*. You’re totally right that the difference in wooshy turbo noises adds a surprising amount of fun to a commute!
Definitely! I feel like the typical talk for our cars is - "don't waste your money, no power gains"... but I think the right language is... "prioritize other mods first. Then when your car is fun enough for you - slap a CAI on!" :)
Great install video! I was worried about the driver side mount as well and possible rattle from that. I was searching blogs to see if I am doing something wrong. If I had seen your video before my install, I might not have worried that much, lol!
I was going to order a secondary air intake filter but it looks like I don't need it. I have a apr carbon closed box intake and it doesn't make much cool sounds so I'm gonna sell it
so i’ve got an aftermarket cai but no IE, recently my coolant has been losing a lot and i’ve repaired everything that’s connected to the coolant. Do you know if CAI plays a role in anything with the coolant? If so, i may revert back to stock or purchase an IE CAI to see if there are any changes
Great video liked and subscribed. Just wanted to ask if you noticed any issues with heat soaking or noticeable increase in the Intake air temps. I"m keen on getting one with the carbon lid but the facts its an open air intake has me a little hesitant.
Omg that color!! I came upon something similar to that on Pinterest. I own a 2020 Golf GTI Mk7.5 6spd manual and have my car modded similar to yours. Installing CTS downpipe next week, but that color you have on your wagon is exactly what I want. Would love to know how you managed? Wrapped? Dipped? Definitely have a new sub here, cheers!
Just installed mine, little bit of vibration in the gas pedal at low speed at certain RPM. I have heard this could be from something touching when the engine is under load...hmm.
It probably should... but mine was a little loose too - i had to tighten it up some more afterward. It also could be you didn't clean off the connection points enough (dry them).
The only negative I can see with this setup is the filter is wide open to the vented holes at the front of the car... Do you see any issues with water (when raining) hitting the filter directly ? Because in the stock setup, the filter sits in an inverted manner from the top of the box and the box has drainage holes at the bottom for rain water to escape.
Haven’t had any issues. Water should smack against the back of the tray, and run down it and leak out the bottom of the engine. I’ve checked the filter for water and dampness a few times after heavy rain but haven’t found anything. Doesn’t mean it’s not an issue, but that’s my experience.

Good add on! - thanks for sharing. I placed some foam pads under mine.
@@DadWagondo you know what kind of pads you used I want the rattle to do away with mine?
The best install video i've seen yet. I was kind of scared to try to do this install but it seems pretty easy after watching this! Thanks!

Killer job all around!
The Tetris-ing was probably the hardest part of this whole install. Thanks to your video, I knew I was in for a good time. Cheers dude.

Ik mine is touching the brake reservoir and is vibrating my pedals now. I can't get it from touching the brake reservoir idk what I did wrong 😭

Good install 👍 really appreciated the time stamps to find the sound comparison, great vid!
No problem! Thanks for watching. 😍
Great install vid. I've got my intake on the way and found this while being impatient. Got yourself a subscribe for the concise walk through!

Great install vid. Took me no time at all except the shroud was too big and was bumping the radiator hose, had to do some DIY fab work
Great video! Installing mine today.
Awesome job! 🤩
You forgot to mention the transfer of the check valve from inside the stock coolant hose to the new one.....
no check valve.

im installing an IE inlet and CAI soon so hopefully i can get it done under 2 hours lmao
How did the install go?
No need to bleed the cooling system after replacing the coolant line?
Good install video. Mine comes in the mail tomorrow 🤙
I don't believe so.

I don't have the previous data to really say one way or the other. Check out mygolfmk7.com/. - he's got some data on it there.
Great Video !! Does anyone know if this IE intake will work with an APR Turbo Inlet pipe on a Mk7 R ? I already have the APR inlet pipe

Interesting!
Did you wind up intalling the check valve in the coolant line?
Great video!!
thank you!
Now that you have had it on got a while do you get any metal tapping? Im tryin to find my culprit now... Great intake tho Im lovin i.e. so far
Do you get or have a check engine or any dashboard lights come on after the install?
@@angelvarela7944 no but i think i got it i put a felt dot under the tray n we good it was just a hard core rattle at half mass
Just purchased a CAI from IE for my 2023 tiguan rline. And Im new to this kind of things. Does this need a tune after installation or no?
It does not. Good to go
Does water get into the filter if it pours down with rain?
Not that i've experienced
It is much easier to simply pull up the air intake and then remove the cover over the intake from the fresh air vent.
When I put the new coolant hose on the clamps don't tighten it enough and it pulls off easily, is it supposed to be a tight fit like the oem one?
It probably should... but mine was a little loose too - i had to tighten it up some more afterward. It also could be you didn't clean off the connection points enough (dry them).
Did u already have the IE elbow installed?
Yes, i have the unitronic elbow installed - there is a video for that installation as well.
Does yours rub against the brake fluid reservoir?
It does not.

What are the chances of water logging the turbocharger during heavy rain?
I haven't had any issues. Driven in some pretty heavy rain with no issues.
Any improvement in performance ?
I cant find my secondary air intake hose😳 someone help (2016 Golf R)
Golf Rs don’t come with SAIs
where did you put the round solid metal? thanks
You only need to use that if you DONT have Secondary Air Injection (flexible hose that connects under the tubing)
So on a 1.8t then?
Yeah
So pricey but I will eventually crumble and buy it, haha
how does this do in rain? It seems it'd pull water inside...?
i have had no water pull inside at all.
@@DadWagon I’ve bought a rain sock for mine. It doesn’t rain much here in Cali but it also keeps out dust and debris
You gonna go is20 or is38? Hybrid???
I think an IS38 is in my future. I don't even really know what Hybrid is.
@@DadWagon i understand hybrid turbos as a turbo that it fortified/built for bigger power
this fits the mk7 tdi as well?
Do you know if it fits the tdi or not?
@@Bu0f it does not fit, I went with the neuspeed p-flo. Confirm fitment for your particular tdi 👍🏽
