Shelled Reptiles in my experience the pothos leaves will mostly likely become soft and go bad under the water. It may take a long time and they will probably start to get algae on them, but the do end up going bad.
Gorgeous setup! I think the tannins make it very appealing to look at, more setups should incorporate it especially since it can have medicinal properties to it.
So, I've started doing research about getting either a common or AST. How much/often do you feed him at that age and with the water that deep do they have any issues popping up for air?
@@ShelledReptiles I'm in illinois and I have researched on how to obtain a permit with no success. By the way how are my 2 babies? I haven't seen a video on them in a while. I'm referring to the 2 soft shell turtles. I wish I could do what you do buddy and or had the time. Keep up the good work!
Hey be careful with the pothos, it is toxic for turtles, specifically to diamond backs. I would take it off the tank ASAP. For the rest it looks great.
@@ShelledReptiles unfortunately not to much and that's why you see a lot of people using them in turtles' tanks. They are fine for fish but not for torts. I'm an anthro and have turtles too. I have some experience on it but I'll try to find material for you.
Great tank, the tannin in the water really enhances the whole setup. Great going
cool turtle 🐢 love your animals and vids
Thanks for sharing! also I’ve seen some videos of hybrid alligator snapping turtle x common snapping turtle!

I got my baby snapping turtle the size of a nickel. He’s 35 years old now, thriving, with an attitude...
Adorable
Looks great, very much like the micro habitat I find wild baby ast hiding out in
Gregs Turtle Haven
Thanks! That’s good to hear! Still planning on getting some oak leaves
Shelled Reptiles scoop some duckweed if you see some, it’ll absorb additional nitrates and help give the little guy some cover
Im just imaging how cool its going to be when it gets big and it has its own pond thats gonna look awesome!
The brown is kinda stylish-ish
Baby Gamera.
A good upgrade! This will be neat for your little guy!!!
belizeguy Thank you!
@@ShelledReptiles A pleasure. He will be a great critter for years as long as you cater to him now and get him strong and healthy.

shelled, how did you get your ast to eat pellets?
Very nice
What kind of sand is he using?
He's so cute! I can't wait till I get one.
I'm aware, I've kept turtles for years, and have done a lot of research on alligator snappers.
I understand, it's sad that people do that, I wish more would do their research and actually care for their pets properly.
What kind of filtration are you using? I have two 1.75 y/o ASTs in a 40 breeder with two sun sun canister filters and am looking to upgrade
name him allen the alligator snapper turtle
Is he gonna get his own personal summer pond in the future by the way great video👍
Eventually, but I will keep him indoors as long as I possibly can :)
That’s my dream turtle!!! Too bad they are illegal in California :(
Sadly many things are :(
Thanks for the uploads! How big will the snapper get and if he gets as big as a wild one, we're will you put it. Thanks!
Turtle % He can get to be pretty big. Up to 200 pounds! Eventually, he will have his own outdoor pond
@@ShelledReptiles Dang thats gona be pretty cool! Thanks

What's the process to legally own one of these?
Nacho Orozco
It depends on the state, but unless you live in their native state, it should be as easy as buying a captive born one at a reptile expo

I sent you a DM on Instagram.
The pothos is brilliant. Will the snapper mess with it? What kind of sand are you using?
crazy turtle
So far he’s not messed with the pothos at all. I’m using quickcreat play sand
Shelled Reptiles i had pothos in my tank but my ASTs kept eating them :(

That’s a first I have heard of pothos being toxic for reptiles. Is there a source I could have to look that over?

Ok, that would be great. I can only find stuff saying that the common pothos is completely reptile safe.
@@ShelledReptiles may be for other reptiles, not for torts and specifically bad for diamond backs who are very susceptible to water chemistry

not hate but its dumb having those as pets..They aren't
