  • How often do you hang? 🦥 Hanging from a bar is becoming more popular because it works. It helps release stiff back and shoulder muscles and improves the connection from your hand to your spine.
But another worthy form of hanging is the horizontal hang. This variation puts more stretch on your lat muscles and even helps you stretch the side of your torso, targeting those tricky-to-release muscles like the QL, obliques, and intercostals. Plus you don’t need a bar or anything overhead, just a sturdy object at hip height to hold onto.
Next time you wake up with a stiff back or need to stretch out your spine after hunching over a computer, give the horizontal hang a try. Let us know how it goes in the comments below. #shorts #youtubeshorts

I'm an inpatient Physiotherapist so we do a lot of assisted movements with patients. I stretch like this at least once a day at the nurses station and get asked what the heck I am doing but it feels amazing for your muscles. With that said, if you have back pain that isn't going away with stretching and plenty of movement, seek advice from a physiotherapist or doctor cause not all back pain is muscular.

Interesting. I came here to comment that I inadvertently discovered this horizontal hang years ago at the laundry drying machine 😅 With the door open and with my grip at the groove where the filter rests, I’ll hang and pull my body back, which not only feels good as a stretch but also provides relief as my thoracic pops and cracks - incredibly satisfying! Just note, there is a subtle technique to it..

I would say listen to your body. That is what I do. If anything hurts then I ease back.
Personally, I try to get these in at least three times a day. Each set is 2 to 4 times. And then I don't hang very long maybe 20 seconds or so.
I incorporate these in with other movement snacks throughout the day.
Strength side is very cool and I have incorporated some of their stretches for my morning stretch routine. And they always promote to start off slow and ease into things.

    • @justaguy328
      @justaguy328 Год назад +9

I had this issue too. Its something you need to do consistently because you're also training your nervous system to not contract those muscles and let them relax which is the hardest part because you'll stretch and get some relief but quickly your nervous system has become so used to activating certain muscles it'll start pulling on those muscles again without you even realizing it. But if you do it consistently eventually your nervous system is also trained and it'll allow those muscles to relax. That's when the pain should subside. Hope this helps.

Omg! I've been doing this on the counter at work to relieve pain and I'm glad to see I was on the right track!

you can use literally any doorway to do the one arm variation. just grab the door frame at hip height and lean back. thanks so much for this idea dudes, this is definitely my favorite thing y'all have shown me.

I used to play tons of games, quit for about 2 years and noticed I’ve got a hunchback problem that my moms been telling me about bc of my posture when gaming, now I’m in the gym working out and getting healthier as the day goes on, watching this video makes me definitely want to try, my backs kind of stiff and I barely crack it to loosen it up. I’m 20 btw and I truly am worried it could get worse but watching this puts my worries at ease:)

Whoa that horizontal hang is a game changer. Just did it and it felt like that stretch has been waiting for me my whole life. My pecks burn but its that good burn

Thanks for posting! I didn’t realize the hip height stretch was as effective as hanging!

I've done this for years. I discovered this on my own, trying to replicate a ballet bar height for certain stretches, I began using my moms bathroom counter a long time ago. It works well.

Love these stretches. Also, if you have the space for it and the discipline to do it everyday (and don’t mind spending the $), using an inversion table for 5 mins each day followed by about 5 mins of hip and back stretches keeps the back pain away. It’s important to do consistently though, or it will only give temporary relief and therefore be a waste of $ and space.

At 68 I do hollow body deadhangs several times during my 90 min warmup at the gym. You just added more time to my warmup (and thank you!).

I make these almond cakes with the St. James cross. It's called the tarta de Santiago and is commonly made in that region of Spain that you're heading to. I would highly encourage you to try one when you're there! One day, I hope to make the trip on the camino myself, but given that my feet are so messed up, I might have to ride a bike 😅

    I do this constantly.
After 20+yrs with severe neck, back and shoulder injuries I’ve learned that just about anything can be used to alleviate pressure. A doorway can be a godsend for tense or angry neck/shoulder/rotator cuffs.

I’ve been doing this for the longest.
I find it better when you grab with your hands one above the other instead of side by side. So instead of grabbing the top ledge I would grab one of the posts. For some reason it helps me get a better stretch.
