After 3 years I finally got my Z06 allocation and I don’t even want it anymore
In the words of Josh Holder who is now the top engineer at Corvette after Tadge’s retirement. “The reason you do a flat plane crank is volumetric efficiency. The high revs, the sound, all that stuff is just a side effect. We are only concerned with finding a way to get the most air possible into the engine and a flat plane crank is the best way to do that in an NA package.”
Once you add turbos, you can get the air in faster by increasing the boost. The advantage the FPC provides is not as pronounced since the volumetric efficiency of the engine is not as important. None of this stuff with the hemholtz resonator on top of the engine is necessary, because now you are forcing the air into the engine instead of letting the engine suck it in.
The bottom line is that if you have a turbo there’s very little benefit to the FPC and you still have to deal with all the reliability problems that go with the FPC. The ZR-1 still won’t have pushrods, but it will move to a cross plane crank to increase reliability.

Flat plane crank with a turbo or two won’t make it 50,000 miles.
How many flat plane crank cars have 50,000 miles without a major engine issue or three?
GM should want this car to last longer than a Ferrari or without major engine issues.
I think their engineers are some of the best in the industry. I do think they have the potential to create things we could only dream of... I couldn't have expected the Z06 to have as much horsepower as it did despite having fewer cylinder counts as the Huracans! However, reliability could easily be a big concern. I think a cross plane crank was more reliable for Ford when building the GTD and GT500s

I hope they can keep the flat plane crank, but realistically I am not their target audience. I also wish more manufacturers offered more colors instead of just a few. I still love the Carbon Black (which was a very very dark blue metallic) on my E46 M3. I love Midnight Blue and Midnight Purple and lots of others that I’d love to see offered. I think it’s more about personality than age. I’ve always liked understated colors even when I was young.
I do love understated colors! Can you imagine if they had stealth finishes similar to Lamborghini? That would be insane! Awesome to hear about your E46 M3! I think one of the reasons why we see few colors could be stemmed from the costs associated from increased options within the assembly plant. Big brands like Chevrolet have to spend an extensive amount of time to test and certify colors. To introduce new colors it would take a significant amount of time for each alternative.
@@SpeedPhenom I realized I stated it like I still have the M3. I bought it in 2005 (2006 ZCP) and sold it eight years and 90k miles later. Bad decision considering how cars just got heavier and more tech laden. I don't feel too bad about though since I have a 991.1 C2S.
I really think the ZR1 is going to have the HOT V twin turbo setup like the black wing engine. Of course with updated tech and 50/50 chance it’s going to have electric assist in the front or maybe they save that for the “Zora”
What is the "Unthinkable" component? The prevailing rumor is a twin charged (turbo+supercharger) Black Wing variant. But who knows?

I believe the ZR1 will have at least 3 colors only available on that car and two, which will be way different from past Corvette colors.

It could be Zora maybe a twin turbo flat plane crank with electric assist. That would be one bad ride. Exciting times.... new ZR1 and GTD. I think the GTD is more of a Z06 competitor due to the horsepower levels. Great video as usual.
The cacti color is cool. The GTD is going to be a tougher choice as you can pick any color.
What if Corvette toes down the route of Ford with creating a bespoke assembly line for Zora? They can easily create a program similar to GTD! Imagine the customization and upgrade potential
@@SpeedPhenom I would hope that they do just that. This is going to be their pinnacle car. It needs to be above and beyond the other C8s.
@@SpeedPhenom In 1953 the first Corvette were built virtually by hand. The glorious started with hand hand built and will probably finish that way. I think we can count on the Zora to spare nothing towards making it an absolute monument to Zora Zora Arkus-Duntov. I think they'll want to make a car will make Duntov smile when he look down at it... that's a tribute.
I was thinking that the E-Ray was leading the way to a hybrid AWD 1,000BHP Corvette. Way better than just cranking the HP on the RWD.
I think you're onto something! Everything is advancing at such rapid pace. Just look at the new Porsche 911 with the electric input for the turbos!

Hey good video I think black will be a popular sinister color as well as the new purple with visible carbon fiber ground effects on the c8 ZR1. Although bright bold lighter colors go better with all the angle surfaces of the c8s. So Bold is Gold if GM does go that way. That New Sebring Orange Interior would go great with purple, black Swade interior package with red, purple or orange stitching and purple exterior, or red dipped interior with the new purple exterior. GM should up the basic 1ZR interior with a colored steering wheel stripe and stitching option and a colored stripe down the middle on the track GT3 seats for the ZR1 or maybe all the models in 2025 or 2026
I hope the production numbers are not too low... I gave a deposit and I'm 2nd on the list of a low volume Canada dealership. I'm a little bit scared about if they'll be able to get 2.

Always said they need a Bold color pallet for the Vette. Maybe they do something for the ZR1. I’d love to see some old school Callaway Colors they did on the Speedster, Like that insane purple. Maybe a bright almost neon green similar to McLaren. A color shift green or purple to black metallic…
Just some thoughts
As for engine… reliability is going to be an issue for a flat plane inducted engine. How about we go with a dual overhead cam 5.5 L twin turbo charged red line 7800 RPM with 850 hp! Now that would be cool.
Monterey definitely!!!!! Still waiting to hear when the ZORA will be revealed!!!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully I will be there.
The more I think about it, Monterey sounds PERFECT! For the ZORA, I really think if Chevrolet goes down the route of Ford (like the GTD) it could turn into a really cool process.
Try to pick up a Zora this will up your content big time if your one of the few you tubers that can pull this off. Work on dealership contacts now.

Leave it to Chevy to introduce a newer and better version every year when the initial design included all these versions from day one.
Haha! You've got a great point! All these variants were basically ready to go from the chassis perspective. For example, the E-Ray hybrid tech and battery space is allocated inside EVERY Stingray on the road!
