Finishing up my first pair of customs using your brand and it’s turning out great, how long would you recommend letting the shoes sit before applying matte finisher?
Thinking about doing this but really want to know how this holds up. Does the shine from the patent leather come through over time? Or is that shine literally removed in this process. Answer to this question would be greatly appreciated!
Everytime I apply the Matte Finisher, the shoe is still shiny. I'm using a paintbrush so its tricky to use the heatgun after applying the Finisher. I added some Duller but the Finisher was still shiny. What would you recommend ? I also don't want to apply 4-6 coats of Finisher.
First off, did you happen to shake the bottle well before using it? You need to shake the bottle really, really well to mix up the dulling agent in the finisher. After that then only 1-2 light coats will be necessary.
@@AngelusBrand of course I shake the bottle before applying anything. After the 2 layers of finisher it isn't really matte at all. It's more like satin. I tried to mix more duller but it became chalky. I used matte finisher with duller and it was shiny. Then I tried the normal finisher I think type 604 with duller and of course it was shiny too. What can I do about that ?
Bro, I have a question for you... I customized some AJ1s, I used Angelus paint in White Flat and Black Flat colors, I loved the final finish when they were ready, then I applied the Acrylic Matte Finisher that you use in the video with a brush, and it gave it a lot of shine on my AJ1... I didn't use a heat gun when applying it, is that why it didn't have a matte finish?
In the video he mentions how you could use a brush but it may be a bit harder and the results may not be as good. Go very light coats and hit it right away with some heat.
You would deglaze first. You need to make sure to take off the manufacturer finish. ADHESIVE spray is usually sticky. Meant to "adhere". I would look into ADHESION promoter. That allows the paint to be applied to plastics, and other hard areas.
Just curious how is it washing shoes after doing a custom paint job on them and using the satin finish? I wanna customize something Jordan 1 cleats but I don’t wanna do it if when I need to wash them the paint comes off or something like that
It's all about the prep. Just make sure to properly prep the shoe before painting. For cleats, do some light sanding, our Leather Prep and possibly some adhesion promoter to allow the paint to adhere and be extra durable. Clean and washing the shoes should never be a problem if the sneakers or cleats have been properly prepped.

how many layers of finisher for it to be as durable as the original finish... cause i find if you prep and repaint and ad finisher the colour has an easier time coming off than original... and i count on customising my leather motorcycle suit
Hey there! We recommend to use our Flat Black paint if you want no gloss, or you can use our Duller product to mix in with the paints to take out the shine. Nail polish remover will begin to take out the color you applied, if you use too much you will end up making the surface sticky
1-2 coats and the finished product shouldn't be sticky. Try giving it more time to dry. If its still sticky try adding a very light coat of finisher but this time add a drop of Duller.
Matte Finisher comes with the flat look which goes over the project once you are done painting. With the Duller, it is added to the paint or finisher to give the flat look. With the duller, be careful to not add too much... this can compromise the durability of the the paint. If you have any more questions feel free to contact us at Info@angelusshoepolish.com
I've got a pair of Jordan 6 Varsity red's that are damn near mint except for a crack in the red factory paint. Would it be safe to add an acrylic finisher on the factory paint on the midsole?
Can you put angelus finisher on mesh or canvas to protect the angelus paint I put on those areas ? Or do you not put any sort of protection on canvas or mesh materials after you’ve painted on them with angelus paints ?
Finisher is optional and provides minor protection. It's mostly used to get leather a certain sheen. If you are using 2-Soft with the paints, applying light coats and heat setting then the paint will be durable and last the life of the fabric material. Another option for protection is our Water and Stain Repellent. angelusdirect.com/products/water-stain-repellent?_pos=1&_sid=49a2407fd&_ss=r
That will be up to you on what type of sheen you would like. We offer matte being our lowest shine out of all of them. Please note, all our paints have finisher in it already. Acrylic Finisher is used after your project is completed and you are ready to seal them off. Using the Acrylic Finisher is totally optional and is dependant upon personal preference.
Not if this base is that patent leather. You can recreate that "look", but not the material. Hope this answers your question, if not please email us at info@angelusdirect.com
You may apply the finisher as soon as the paint is fully dry to the touch. We might recommend to let it cure for a little bit longer but as long as the paint is dry then it should be good. Also, the paint cracking has nothing to do with the finisher. The finisher is optional and works as a top coat which gives the surface a sheen. The most important step is to prep the leather before applying the paint. When prepping the area, we suggest using our Angelus Deglazer or Acetone to remove the factory paint/finish. This will allow Angelus paint to adhere better to the surface to avoid cracking. If you have any more questions feel free to contact us at Info@angelusshoepolish.com

Yes, ideally it takes 1-2 very light coats of finisher. Allow each coat to fully dry by using a blow dryer or heat gun. What shoe and surface are you working on? Did you paint the surface first? Was it prepped beforehand using acetone or our Leather Preparer and Deglazer?
Hi, I have Alphaedge 4D iridescent / Goodbye Gravity and it has the shiny glitter when the shoes contact directly with the light. can i use the angeleus matte to make the glitter doesn't reflective/shiny ? thank you.
I’m thinking about buying the matte finisher to repaint some midsoles, i used to just use the flat black paint but the paint still fades off (not cracking like jordans) from day to day use, will the finisher actually seal and protect the paint or is it just for finishing purposes?
so I have applied matte finisher to angelus red and flat black paint (I applied a lot of the finisher at once with paint brush), and the result was that it looks quite glossy, and Im just wondering whether I should go over it again with the finisher but with lighter coats and heat? Is overlaying finisher bad for the paint and the shoe?
Hi Jason Li, regardless if it's paint or finisher, you should always apply multiple light coats and never add a lot all at once. Stated in the video, he highly suggests the to shake the matte finisher extremely well, apply very light coats using a airbrush and then hit immediately with heat. If you can, remove the layer of finisher with our Leather Preparer and start the finisher process over but if this is going to compromise the paint then you may have to live with it. You can try to add another coat but piling up the coats may effect the durability. Experiment on smaller inconspicuous areas and see what works best for you.
The finisher is not going to keep the paint from chipping. It sounds like you painted the sole too. Angelus Paint is not recommended for use on the very bottoms of shoes as the paint will wear away as soon as you start walking in them. Angelus Paint also works great on certain Soft Midsoles (Jordan 3's, Jordan 4's), and will not hold up on hard midsoles (Converse, Vans, Jordan 1's, Air Force 1's, etc). We want you to have the best experience possible with realistic goals.
Hi, i custom my shoe jordan 1 mid last month. And i paint the toe part into white but after i used the shoe a lot of cracks are starting to show. What do i put to prevent it?
There could be a few issues when it comes to issues like this. From the examples shown it looks like it is 1 of the 3 mentioned below. 1. The preparation was not done properly 2. The layers in between each coat were not properly dry enough. 30-45 min dry times in between each coat. 15-20 min if using a heat gun or blow dryer. 3. The final coat was not completely cured long enough before worn. After the final coat you want to let it dry for at least 48-72 hours. It can be either one of those or all of them. What I always suggest is giving the leather a light sanding. Especially in those areas where you will experience creasing. Which comes with wear and tear of course. Ultimately, if the preparation is done well, the dry times in between each coat.

David, it was my first time doing my custom J1 this past few days. I also struggled with the jordan wings logo. Messed up the last shoe until I saw a MAGNIFYING GLASS! Also use 0 round or 0 liner brush. It will do the trick. :)
I just finished my custom, do i need to let it dry for about 48 hours before using the finisher? And after using the finisher can i let it dry by itself or is a heat gun necessary?
It's always a good idea to let the paint dry and cure as much as possible but some people add the finisher as soon the last coat of paint is fully dry and others allow 48 hours to pass. Try out both ways and see what works best for you. Just make sure the paint is completely dry to the touch and use a heat gun or hair dryer to insure the paint is set. Regardless, we recommend that you give at least 48 hours before for the paint to dry and cure before wearing or using the custom.
You don't have to apply the high gloss. In fact, any of the finishers are optional. It depends on the type of finish you want. If you want a matte finish then apply the matte and if you want a high gloss then apply our High Gloss. If you have any questions please feel free to contact our custom support team.
Angelus Shoe Polish Of course. I get the idea behind applying one or the other finishes. My question regards why one would apply BOTH high gloss and matte finishes to the same project. Just wondering about the thought process behind that. Could you elaborate? Thanks in advance.
Yeah there's a few different types of adhesion promoter. For this project, since you are working on patent leather, the adhesion promoter is highly recommended.
I love patent leather just wish they would avoid high crease areas and it would look so sick. Everyone has saying or matte finish it’s so rare to see that beautiful patent leather which isn’t even made from leather anymore :)

Hi, I have Alphaedge 4D iridescent / Goodbye Gravity and it has the shiny glitter when the shoes contact directly with the light. can i use the angeleus matte to make the glitter doesn't reflective/shiny ? thank you.
Unfortunately not, the iridescent material will always reflect unless you paint over it. Our finisher will not make it reflect any less.
@@AngelusBrand do you have any solution to make my problem solved ?
If I add Duller to Satin (Matte out of stock) will it get close enough to Matte to be unnoticeable?
Yes, adding a drop or two of Duller to Satin will give a nice matte look.
I couldn’t help but notice you have clear nail polish on lol
I’m thinking about buying the matte finisher to repaint some midsoles, i used to just use the flat black paint but the paint still fades off (not cracking like jordans) from day to day use, will the finisher actually seal and protect the paint or is it just for finishing purposes?
This will depend on the midsoles you are repainting. Please email us at info@angelusdirect.com so that we can offer information more in depth for you!
so I have applied matte finisher to angelus red and flat black paint (I applied a lot of the finisher at once with paint brush), and the result was that it looks quite glossy, and Im just wondering whether I should go over it again with the finisher but with lighter coats and heat? Is overlaying finisher bad for the paint and the shoe?
Hi Jason Li, regardless if it's paint or finisher, you should always apply multiple light coats and never add a lot all at once. Stated in the video, he highly suggests the to shake the matte finisher extremely well, apply very light coats using a airbrush and then hit immediately with heat. If you can, remove the layer of finisher with our Leather Preparer and start the finisher process over but if this is going to compromise the paint then you may have to live with it. You can try to add another coat but piling up the coats may effect the durability. Experiment on smaller inconspicuous areas and see what works best for you.
i applied the finisher 2 times but the paint came off from the bottom and i weared them for like 30 minutes. what should i do?
1. The preparation was not done properly
I'm astonished on how good it turned out. Good work by JSM
What finisher would you recommend for the white part on black cement 3s?
Either Matte or Satin. Adding Finisher is strictly preference however the most popular would have to be Matte.
Brilliant video as ever I would like to see how you're professionals do jordan wing's logo I'm customizing my J1 and struggling like hell I've messed up half a dozen time's 😂😂😂😂 also another 1 customising my off white mca 1s my fault lefttje top off my anjelus leather deglazer and it went on toe box and it's noticable what paint or mix I can get close any help would be appreciated 👍👍👍👍
For really small detail our man, Dejesus Customs uses a toothpick to paint. A small point like that can work well (ex. mechanical pencil, pen, toothpick...) and as far as the Off White MCA 1, you can try using our UNI Blue color as a starting point but you'll probably have to experiment with some colors in order to get the exact colorway.

@@AngelusBrand thank you yes was looking at that colour but what would you recommend colour's to mix with it heeeeeeelp 😂😂😂😂 seriously I need to knock myself out 100% 😂😂😂👍👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️✌️
David, it was my first time doing my custom J1 this past few days. I also struggled with the jordan wings logo. Messed up the last shoe until I saw a MAGNIFYING GLASS! Also use 0 round or 0 liner brush. It will do the trick. :)
does it matter what adhesion promoter i use because i’d rather not buy a £60 product to use once
No. As long as it is an adhesion promoter it should be fine.
@@AngelusBrand thank you is there any you recommend?
@@AngelusBrand hi! I followed the video and gave my finisher a good shake, but my flat black still became gloss?
@@justanotherguycommenting5754 probably shouldve added a small amount of duller to the matte finish cuz ther's still some glossiness to the finish
I’m new to this, and VERY confused. Why, would I apply a high gloss when I already just applied and desire a matte finish?
You don't have to apply the high gloss. In fact, any of the finishers are optional. It depends on the type of finish you want. If you want a matte finish then apply the matte and if you want a high gloss then apply our High Gloss. If you have any questions please feel free to contact our custom support team.
Angelus Shoe Polish Of course. I get the idea behind applying one or the other finishes. My question regards why one would apply BOTH high gloss and matte finishes to the same project. Just wondering about the thought process behind that. Could you elaborate? Thanks in advance.
Woooooooowww!!!!!!, amazing!,👍❤
Did you used a duller?
Nope. Watch the video he shows you his process.
Matte finisher is the best!
How many coats should I do
This particular custom took about 3 light coats.
I just put the Matte finish on and now it looks like Patent Leather it is so shiny and I’m very disappointed with it
Sorry to hear that Henry. Please reach out to us at info@angelusdirect.com so that we can assist you.
Thank you!!!!
Nice
what does adding the Adding Adhesion Promoter do? is it optional? can use another adhesion promoter than the one in the video?
Yeah there's a few different types of adhesion promoter. For this project, since you are working on patent leather, the adhesion promoter is highly recommended.
Yo please run me on game before I screw something up.... do Mod Podge work the same as this
No it will not. Our finishers are made a lot different than mod podge. Our finishers are specially made for materials like leather.
I see you bro 💪🏾
Ngl, both to me are fire, gloss and matte. But damn that matte is fuckin cool
I love patent leather just wish they would avoid high crease areas and it would look so sick. Everyone has saying or matte finish it’s so rare to see that beautiful patent leather which isn’t even made from leather anymore :)
Great custom job tho!
Agree! it would make all the difference in the world to keep it off the toe box!
I hate patten leather. This looks great!
