They already have markers. The difference is they're empty so whatever color your painting with, you just use 2 thin to thin out the paint so it goes through the pen. I actually like that better because your not locked in to the company's colors. You can make your own.
@@tinapinch7494 That's actually better even! I had no idea, but now going to go check it out. Thank you for the heads up! I have a pair of all white hi leather chucks just begging to be customized. Lol.
I buy empty Molotow markers and mix my Angelus paint with 2 thin. They have pens as small as 1mm, which is great for those of us who are more comfortable drawing than painting. Great for outlines and touch-ups, and also making custom colors like Tina said 👍🏼
@@seanw.9617 You're making me want to try my hand at it. Lol. I'm a creative person and can be pretty meticulous, so I think this is something I'd actually be able to do. I like the idea of drawing and/or doodling with the thin markers you mentioned also.
Yes you can use Posca markers but when you're done your supposed to use Angela clear coating to coat it .. I have been Graffiti hand painted jackets t-shirts pullovers since 1982. Now I use them today for jacket's T-shirts ect... Point is clear coating will keep your artwork protected from all types of weather.
@@E3chillout Angela clear Coating is for fabric, canves but the good thang about it last for ever . When you have Paintedleather jacket, jean jacket, pullovers even shoe's.. and you happen to for get to color a part you can always go back and touch it up even if already been Clear Coated plus Angela's Clear Coat ,it has Matte and it's flexible not stiff. Hope this helps Bro..
As a person that has customized with both I would say the paint is better for the simple fact that it last longer and is better against wear and tear. If you are a person like my I more prefer to do drawing design on the show with fine tipped posca. If you are a beginner I would definitely say go with the paint better to start out with the paint as you will most likely be using more. It also looks cleaner than compared to the markers. Also the markers aren’t designed for shoes while the paint is so go with the paint if you are doing leather shoes. Posca works really well on canvas materials even though they dry out and ruin the markers.’
I customized my shoes 4 months ago with angelus and I can see that the paint is starting to crack on the sides, but that was probably because I didn't use the right varnish. Otherwise I really like the paint, you can blend more colors and it looks fresh with the vibrant. It's also good if you like your art to be detailed and/or realistic! I do have posca but never used it to customize bc it's too colorful for my taste.
Does the paint stay on leather cracks or it starts to look like earlier after a few uses? Did you wear those shoes on regular basis for 4 months after it started cracking?
@@anonymousydk It's just some small cracks (the paint) caused by the movements I think but it hasn't peeled off yet. I started to notice them the time I wrote the comment. I've worn the shoes everyday since I customized them until now.
another thing that you can do with Poska markers is a sealant so that way you avoid the rubbing off when wet and the scratch resistance using some type of clearcoat helps with that now granted a lot of my projects are on wood or metal or plastic such as I do, custom skateboards but it should be able to apply to shoes
This was exactly my question, because angulus paint is leather paint ofcourse it should definitely hold up better but I was wondering if an acrylic sealer would make posca markers Or even acrylic paint hood up closer to leather paint/angulus paint
The way I would look at it is if you’re wanting something with more vibrancy Angelus paint has a better gloss to it. If you’re looking for something to have more of a matte finish, the Poska marker works better but honestly, I would combine the two and just use Angelus paint to do it entire coating or fill in larger areas and then just use the markers to draw my design on and it would have a beautiful contrast to finish and beautiful contrast of color
*imo I haven’t tested this but I’m really sure the marker paint will hold up just fine if you seal it with a quality angelus paint finisher* I used to make the mistake of restoring my shoes with angelus paint and not adding a sealer so I noticed paint would end up chipping over wear, the sealer as it sounds seals the paint and gives it a strong bond
From the view of someone who does not customize, draw, or paint…..the paint looks more vibrant and durable. While the pens are not; they do look to be easier to control and manage. But here’s my thought; when you know what you’re doing; like Xavier and the other customizes…..you can make it “do-what-it-do with a paint brush or a pen. Just be careful wearing your customs anywhere. Great video❤️
I love this video! Thank you! I'm curious about putting a coat of white paint down first on the canvas shoe before doing both types of paint, compared to without as well!
I love your videos, especially that they are straight to the point and not drug out for an hour. I have been learning a lot from watching you. I am just now getting into customizing shoes. I am a noob, so this may be a dumb question/comment. When you were doing the scuff test and water test, did the shoes already have the cover coat on them? If not, do you think that would have made any difference in the outcome of the test? Thanks.
A lot of people forget, even though Posca markers are often described as acrylic, they are still water based so they are absolutely not gonna hold up to water or really most abuse unless they are sealed with an acrylic sealer of some kind. Angelus is a leather acrylic paint that uses a much better binder with their pigments. Overall posca is good though for most applications as long as you properly seal the work afterwards.
EXCELLENT video! You really did a great job reviewing and comparing these two paints to customize shoes. Great Job - I learned A LOT and it helped me make an informed decision.
@xavier I’ve been searching for the right airbrush that goes with the compressor you dropped but the links don’t match. It’s still the paintbrush link. 😢😢 and I cannot locate the tape either. Please help ❤️
Did you use any type of Sealant, acrylic sealer on Either the Posca pen or then angulus before you scraped at them??????????? Or did the angulus just hold up that good without any sealer or acrylic finisher???????????
Does this also apply to the foam/rubber details on shoes? I’m not a customizer but sometimes the accent color is not to my liking and would like to change it. Like right now I bought a pair of Jordan 39 “lumiere” (the all black with white hits) and I’m tempted to turn them into black cats or breds. I had a pair of Lebron 19 low “witness” which I bought a $2 black paint pen from wal-mart and blacked out the “witness” on the front and blacked out the yellow hits minus the shank plate and some foam buried behind the ankle cushion. It turned out good but within 2-3 weeks it started to flake off. I think I touched them up once, but they were beaters and I eventually had to retire them. The most difficult part was the large rubber swoosh on the side. I tried roughing it up to hold the paint better, but it didn’t work well. The paint pen would coat the swoosh but had to be done in streaks as the pen would just smear the paint if you went over it again, obviously at least 2 coats was a must.
First point posca , They are so good for customizing things like that and easy to prep! Second point Angelus paint I love the flame! Posca is cool,I just prefer the look of angelus here! Third point also Angelus .I wouldn’t want my shoes getting their paint scraped off like the posca,So the point goes to paint
Can you use a mix as i think that would work really well because using the angela for larger details or painting whole parts is more effeciant and vibrant but for small drawings and details i feel adding posca would be great
Do you think Angelus paint would hold up well on EVA foam? As well as polyurethane ? I'm looking to paint all in black my EVADICT TR2 trail but can't find anything but Sneakers and I don't know exactly what material they're made of.
Hi Xavier. I have some questions, can you use Posca or Angelus paints on EVA (Ethyl Vinyl Acetate)material sneakers. Which paint is best for the sneakers? Could you test? Please & Thank you, I need your expert advice 😊

Bit late to the party on this video but looking at ways to try and repair/ cover up the cracks on my air force 1s - would these essentially cover them? Thinking I may try customising them as well while I’m at it! Great vid btw and appreciate any responses
I'm planning on customizing a faux leather bag (a rigid one that doesn't have any flexible parts where I paint on) Is it possble to paint with angelus and do linework and details with posca pens (and use an angelus finisher)?

Angelus paint even though it takes longer while using them
angelus
Angelus needs to come up with a marker line that has the same staying power as the paint. Would be a great chance to make that $$!
