- In this video, Dillon from @DeJesusCustomFootwear was kind enough to share some of his techniques on how to properly prep a Nike Air Force 1 and airbrush a simple gradient using Angelus Leather Acrylic Paints.
Angelus Paints come airbrush ready but if your airbrush needle is smaller than .5mm or your paints are a bit old and clumpy, then this video will demonstrate the proper way to thin them out and get them ready to for smooth airbrush application.

Its my first time using a simple and cheap airbrush so, how much pressure I have to use on the compressor if i have a big one compressor? And how much paint I have to put on the little cristal bottle of the airbrush for apply 7 ligth layers for repaint the pant leather of my concords.

A way I like to fade the colors together is over spraying them together with your airbrush aligned with the shoe

When prepping a shoe, do I have to sand down the shoe before painting with angelus paint? I want my customs to last as long as possible!
Sanding is not required however it does help with the overall durability.
You don’t re-mask the shoe when spraying the finisher? You just spray it on the painted area or the whole shoe?
Hello, I'm currently using 0.3 needle and nozzle but I have many problems with my airbrush (the paint does not come out and it clogs every 10sec) despite the sieve and the 2thin. Should I use a .5 needle ? Thanks for this video !

A little clarity..so after I mix the two color together to make the seamless bar, I then clean my paint bowl then use my original colors to go back over it? We only mix the two colors together to blend them into each other perfectly?
Watch videos about gradients you'll get more of an idea how the fading works.
You could mix the 2 colors you want to 1st then make your bar then paint the color on each side.
Hes referencing cleaning out his air brush before applying the 2nd color.
It's what you feel comfortable doing 1st.
Tho in my opinion it would suck painting both of your colors 1st and then you cant blend them together.
So like I suggested watch videos about gradients

Unfortuantely these types of soles cannot be painted. Rubber in general cannot.

I have a ? about angelus water and stain repellent. On leather shoes do you spray it before or after applying the matte finisher? And how many coats?
You always spray after with the repellent. If you spray it before nothing will stick to it and that would be awful.
Do you recommend just using 2thin with my Angelus paints or can I use any brand of thinner ?
We cannot vouch for other companies. So we always suggest sticking to what we know best. And that would be using 2-thin.

Congrats man. 1 question. After you finish painting then you gonna use it of course , after a couple weeks you need to clean/ wash them, what is the best way to clean them without destoying the colors? Is that even possible?

What happens if I use krylon Matte finish after putting on an Angelus Matte finish, is it more protected?
It's all preference and maybe something you can experiment with. Overall, could be unnecessary and overkill. If it makes you feel better to add the extra coat of protection then do it... it's not going to be make or break the custom. More importantly we hope you're taking extra measures when it come to the prep for this is what matters and is the most essential step to a durable, long lasting custom.

Can you come out with a video that touches base with the more heavy colors and how to clean them?
Hi, I recently started with customizing my shoes but i run into a problem.
I wanted to use my airbrush (hansa 581) so I did what you said and mixed the (brand new) paint with 2 thin, but still my airbrush stops.. ?!?!
Everytime i start spraying i get some paint but slowly less and less till nothing happens - even with full open.
I use a .2mm needle. ( even if i use 1:1 ratio i have the same problem.
I thought it was because of my old airbrush, so today i bought a new one. ( sorry again with .2mm needle inside) and same story...
What is my problem ? Do i really just need to take a larger needle or what ?

What would you suggest for taping off parts that have already been painted? Should I wait?
We recommend a very low tact tape. Our Blue tape would work in this instance.

You spray all of your excess paint and cleaning solution into it.
You know you can substitute sandpaper for acetone, right?
when removing all access paint and what not, do you absolutely have to use sand paper, or can you just use 100% acetone ?
The sand paper is a choice. In some cases it can be easier. Depending on the project. And less messier too.

hi, can i asking what a thinner use to clean my air brush after finish?
I don't know if you could answer this question, but I changed icy soles to a red and tried to change it to a black... Am I able to just paint it black instead of dye?
Unfortunately paint will not adhere to the bottom of soles and will eventually chip and crack off. We never suggest painting on soles but some people have in the past and used sole protectors afterwards. This may still be a risk and something you may need to research and test on your own however, we wouldn't recommend it.
What air pressure do you run this Angelus paint at?
What happens if they get wet from the rain? Does the matte finnisher help to make it waterproof?
The paint is water proof. Once it is dry, you are good to go rain or shine!
Could you get the same color effect with hand painting or atleast similar I have someone who wants this exact color scheme for a pair of nike slides but I don’t own a airbrush machine
You will be able to tell a big difference when it comes to using a paint brush and airbrush, but ultimately it is personal preference. Do what you feel more comfortable doing.
Can you put paint on the bottom and will it come off?
Question. If I'm trying to spray a hard object, like, a cage, or part of the mid sole. Should I add 2-hard to the 2-thin/angelus paint mix?
Hey there! The 2-hard will thin out the paint enough for use through an airbrush! You will not need to add 2-thin in this case

So what am I doing when it's on fabric, what's finisher and is it just normal paint from anglus
When painting fabric materials mix the paint with 2-Soft in a 1:1 ratio. 2-Soft is a fabric medium to help keep the materials soft. Finisher is a clear top coat that gives your project a finished looked while adding minor protection against scratches and scrapes.

You don't need to, but it helps. Otherwise you need something to blow out the excess color.

Seen loads of videos of custom AF1 but they crease like mad at the front so how long will the paint last if all steps are done correctly
Without any extreme use, the paint should hold up for the life of the shoe if everything was prepped properly as followed in the video.

No. It will make your paint finish very tacky.
