      He was top rate, in his portrayal of Chet Baker. Also, the one where he's the husband of the lady artist, played by Sally Hawkins (also superb) set up in New Foundland, I think. I can't recall the titles, but they were both impressive films, and Hawke was note perfect. No pun intended.

    What an insightful "professional", but most of all human being. I tried to look up the beautiful proverb he quoted: "To master a craft you have to apprentice three". Anyone knows where it originates from? (not Hemingway BTW) I was deeply moved by both the scene he painted and what it meant to him growing up. He truly is inspiring, and I say that in the most literal sense possible!

    I grew up in Northern Canada... y'all don't know what snow is. We didn't do 'snow days'... If you lived in town, you walked to the nearest main road (that was plowed several times DURING the blizzard) where the busses could pick you up, and you went to school. There was the occasional ice storm, that we'd get the day off for... but it turned the whole world into an ice rink, and there was no playing outside unless you count chipping ice off the driveway with Dad screaming at you to 'watch the asphalt', while wearing spikes on your boots as 'playing'.

      @misterderp4566 3 года назад +6

      Yeah, these guys don't know what cold or snow really is -- I remember getting around as much snow as they did in NYC on St. Patrick's Day in Calgary and being at a Stamps game in early August when a blizzard appeared out of nowhere (35F is t-shirt weather). At least it's keeping people inside, given the context

    • @indrinita
      @indrinita 3 года назад +5

      @@misterderp4566 @New Message as a Canadian living in Germany (from Calgary originally), I have to say it's the same for most Europeans. They don't know what winter is - with the exception of northern Norway, Sweden and Finland perhaps. When I was growing up, a three-day snowstorm in May was par for the course every year. It was only after that happened that we knew spring would more or less safely come. Ok sure, now with climate change, things are not quite the same, but we still have winter in most places in Canada. What they call winter in most places in Europe is our spring or fall.

    • @misterderp4566
      @misterderp4566 3 года назад +1

      @@indrinita The seasons have shifted thanks to climate change, for sure...I'm actually in Calgary right now, and we had one big storm and that's it (if it were NYC, it would have shut down like they are now, but we all just got through, as usual) -- it was 5C today with the sun shining (no chinook or anything). I think lowest it's hit has been -15C. A few years back I was in Ottawa and we got easily 2 feet of snow in a day and, again, things just moved along. So now, I expect that by the time I'm 40, which ain't that far, June = snowpocalypse

    • @nem0763
      @nem0763 3 года назад +2

      I grew up in central BC (around the 54th parallel) and that was bad enough. In 2006 we had 6 feet fall overnight. Power was out everywhere, came on in town after a day. People who lived out of town without wood heat had to take a snowmobile in and ask to stay with friends. Roads weren't passable for a long time. That was in mid-October and kicked off a gnarly winter. Now I'm in Toronto and I keep hearing winter is going to get cold...? There's only been a few days so far that if I wear my winter coat, it isn't sweaty overkill.

I still remember him telling us all about some little film he was going to do with some kid named River about kids who build a spaceship in a junkyard. I try to learn as much as I can about every job I do and love working in different areas which gives me a greater understanding of how the whole picture. I can literally do anything with my hands, even if I'm not trained to, because I have done greater work with my hands than professionals who are paid will do with 0 prior training and the contacts to tell you how amazing I am. It's something only people like Ethan and I can understand. We don't do things for the money. We do things to be the best, so we always put in our best, unlike most professionals who care more about how much they're going to make than doing the greatest job they can do...

    "Go back to bed, it's a snow day?" Uh, no Steven, a parent tells his kid to go out to play! In fact by the time you go to your kids room to tell them that, they're probably outside already!

    9:19 “I like the definition of 'amateur' as a definition of somebody who does something for love.”
    “There's no higher reason for singing than the love of doing it. In that respect you do indeed qualify as amateurs, and I salute you for it.”

    3:58 The worst if this is, that if the UK and the US were governed by the Australian or NZ administrations, this would have been over sooooooooo much faster. I’m emigrating!
