- He's been acting for most of his life. But two great events took place in Ethan Hawke's professional life this year. 1. He directed his first documentary. 2. The 14-year odyssey of Boyhood came to fruition. Hawke talked to David Poland about Boyhood right after they talked about Seymour: An Introduction.
Shot in Toronto, September 2014

Love Ethan's interviews. He always gives genuine, thoughtful responses.
He blinks very amazingly. Slowly, relaxed and living in the moment. Beautiful.
I love listening to Ethan talk. He's so passionate and intelligent.
Boyhood - my favourite movie this year. Possibly of the last few years.
13:40 INCREDIBLE question.
and an incredible answer as well!
Very much enjoyed this interview.
Took me a while to get the film but thinking back its such a powerful film about family. Defiantly a beautiful film
Damn, I love this man...
Awesome to see Mr. Hawke that often on your channel!
Loved Ethan's metaphor at the end.
Love all your interviews with Ethan. Will you be doing any interviews with Jessica Chastain this awards season?
I’ve just recently watched Ethan Hawke’s movies and he seems more fascinating .
Good job on the interviews DP! Would like to see interviews with Eva Green or Emma Watson one day!
Saw the film a few months ago. It didn't really do much for me, as nothing much seemed to happen and there wasn't much structure to it.
Such as life.
just watched the movie today. didn't like it very much :s I guess I'm to still trying to figure out its purpose
i think the point is to portray real, everyday life and to see the beauty in things we take for granted, without needing to exaggerate to create a sense of wonder. it sounds super basic, and it is, but it's so rare to see anything in a film that looks like actual life that it comes as a bit of a shock to the senses and packs an emotional punch you didn't see coming. my only gripe is with the character of the step dad, who seems a bit 2D. even arseholes have redeeming features and moments of likability. it felt for a moment like it was pushing too hard for us to be on ethan hawkes 'side'. not enough to detract from the overall experience though. one of my favourites of the year with under the skin, grand budapest, only lovers left alive, and nightcrawler.
of those 4 you mentioned only watched 3, and under the skin was definitely my favorite of those, still need to watch grand budapest.
id also put under the skin well out in front of everything else. i hope it finds a cult audience on dvd, cos i dont know a single other person who saw it. with regards to GBH, you can basically tell from the trailer how youre going to feel about it. im just a sucker for all things wes
Stop searching for a purpose/point/message and you’ll enjoy it much more.
He's always been ridiculously pretentious
No he's not. Hawke is one of the few Hollywood actors who doesn't try to impress people. He just does his own thing.
Really? I think he's the opposite of.
He's just interesting and talks in a way that could be considered pretentious but its not. if he was pretentious he wouldn't take on films like Sinister, The Purge, Getaway etc
***** lol hi ethan
How pretentious of you when you have no idea what that word means.
