So many of Ethan Hawke's movies tend to resonate with me - the Before series, Dead Poet's Society, Gattaca, Great Expectations, Before the Devil Knows you're Dead, Training Day, Alive, A Midnight Clear.
He picks, for the most part, quality projects with sincere motivations behind them. Fantastic, natural on-screen presence.
This was a great interview. Again, DP/30 delivers a thoughtful, warm and engaging conversation that totally vibes with respect and substance.
"Reality bites" was also a good one.
Gattaca is a great film , a certain film derailed its possibilities of popularity and success. That film was way .......way ahead of its time.
Amazing actor one of my top for sure
A piano teacher once told me, "you gotta be musically honest". This guy has been honest. It is good that he hasn´t bought the crap of becoming a celebrity. Congratulations, Ethan!
this is a great interview and he's very honest, he's got my respect
I can listen to Ethan talk all day.
So do I 🙈🙈
An actor with a brain that he actually uses 👏 the Before Sunrise/Before Sunset/Before Midnight trilogy is a masterpiece.
AMEN! It's my favorite movie trilogy, I've watched each movie too many times to keep track.
@@dinab7852 all I need is to purchase Before Midnight and then I’ll be set! I can’t pick a favorite, they are all amazing.
before sunset is one of the best movies ever.
ellequence44, I agree... i love that movie more than the Before Sunrise. :)
Ethan Hawke is a really entertaining interviewee. Great interview.
Gattica is to this day one of my favorite films of all time. I never understood why it wasnt more well known and appreciated but I learned to keep it in my hip pocket almost like a song you loved but didn’t want anyone but your closest to know about. I always appreciated his performances and I found this interview to be insightful and thoughtfully self examining. I wish there were more films like his choices that focused on character as much as the plot. Well done.
This interview is absolutely fascinating.
One word ... INTEGRITY!
They casted Ethan for Training Day because, unlike other well-known actors at the time, he could handle himself around Washington -- you could see it in Ethan's eyes especially in Training Day
Wish we could find more celebs, politicians, businessmen, religious leaders and scientists who is this honest. Great to see. Deep respect for Ethan Hawke.
he's soo hard on himself that's probably why he's so successful
This man has never been in a bad movie or been bad in a movie.
idk bout that one lol
Yep
One of the greatest actor of our time. Also an truly enjoyable guy.
Ethan is amazing..what a wonderful person...love him to bits
Great interview... I love it when the interviewer just lets the interviewee go... Interesting dude..... He's definitely left brained....
weird to think of Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Jonny Depp as his contemporaries. I feel like he's been around for a lot longer and has taken a completely different path.
For sure. I personally think he’s evolved far past all of them.
@@marshallzane7735 They are all great I think, but Ethan has both the artistry of Depp and sincerity of Affleck and honesty humility of Damon.
@@stephenfletcher5391 WOW High Praise!!!😳
@@stephenfletcher5391 great insight, but Damon and Affleck are nothing compared to Depp and Hawk, I mean let's talk about the depth of characters portrayed
Amazing interview. Sick jacket too.
Lovely! Part 2 couldn't come any sooner. Loved it!
My introduction to Ethan was Dead Poet Society - and i can relate to his character!❤📺🎞
such an excellent actor.
I fell in love with him when I was a kid watching explorers. I LOVED THAT MOVIE when I was a kid. I decided, he will be my husband!
I've been waiting for this! Thanks for the upload :)
This interview is great!Congrats!
very interesting, very inspiring, absolutely love how Ethan did his choises.. and that work was fun. totally love these. thank both of you or whoever is working on these interviews and videos. thank you
Explorers is a great film. What were those people thinking ????? Ethan is one of the few actors whose films I get excited to see even if they're not that great. I love his honesty.
Always a truthful and interesting no BS interview from Ethan Hawke.
Great interview
I appreciate how he is consciously taking one step in front of the other. Accepting whatever the outcome. Goals.
Simply brilliant!
I like how he seperated himself from all the mumbo jumbo BS...great actor
I so love this channel.
So smart. So humble and honest. SO GORGEOUS! Dream man...
Wonderful interview, wonderful conversation. I have grown to love Ethan Hawke so much as an actor. He has so much to say, I wish in this conversation he would just slow down a little bit and finish the sentence. It's hard for me to follow sometimes. Maybe I'm just getting old.
Excellent interview and very interesting guy.
Hey I remember him in Joe dante's film call'ed Explorers when he was a kid in the mid 1980's!
Very interesting man!
Great interview! When's Part 2 coming out?
Like. like, like. Great interview!
Fantastic interview. This guy has depth and character.
Thanks for sharing ❤️ Hugs from Brasil 🇧🇷
Very true! Very wise words @ 5:43 and 21:09. A lot of his observations are 'life' lessons and not limited to just acting imho. I related a lot to what he said about how it was difficult to maintain a sense of self worth (let alone identity) from whatever casting director's thought of him. Big lesson in life right there!
+cgavin1 24:25 too. Everyone has to face this and wither and die or rise again.
Hey! No knocking Explorers! As a kid I loooooved that movie. I totally forgot about it... but that movie was cool!
Still waiting for part 2 :)
Wow someone that really likes to talk. Congratulations, Mr Poland. :)
Excellent.
HE HAS MY HEART.
Great interview! There's a wonderful, long profile of Mr. Hawke in the August 28th, 2018 edition of the New York Times. It's entitled "Ethan Hawke Is Still Taking Ethan Hawke Extremely Seriously".
his best role for me was explorers. he was amazing in that
Wow. What he said about LA is SO TRUE.
Here after Vaibhav Munjal's video. Great Interview btw.
Ethan hung out with Brandon Boyce & was in Drama Club as well as theatre together back in 1983.
I loveeeeeeeeeee this man!!
Yes! He is one of my favorite males, period.
OH MY GOD IT'S ETHAN HAWKE!!!
phenomenal story teller.
I watched this as a result of curiosity. I watched one of his movies “Maudie”. It was excellent. Based on a true story.
I like what it means when the interviewer says let the wolf comes to you.
Isn’t it remarkable that acting can be a full on job/career that can be done when you are a child and all throughout your life. From early grade school, before graduation, before learning to drive, marriage and all that?
Is it like first nature to child-lifetime actors like Ethan Hawke?
One of my favorite actors from the last generation of normal, intelligent, articulate and very talented actors.
Loving these retros mate, please put up part 2 of Joel Schumacher.
Sadly, it never happened.
@@dp30 Ah no, I'm gutted to hear that.
Ethan I love you. Have any play for GATTACA 2?
I like Ethan Hawke. Seems like a nice guy.
such a nice guy
What's the holdup on Part 2??
I always think cuz I've been watching him act for 30 plus years he must be in his late 50s but hes probably only in his late 40s a few years older than me. ❤ genius actor 👏 🎉
i deeply, deeply admire, Hawke. what a fucking genius.
One of the few stars I know of, that is a regular guy on set. And a cut up to boot!
What's your experience with him?
@@secretagentviper8382 *I am in his film _The Good Lord Bird._ Had many occasions to sit and chat with him on set, and off. ️👍👏
I just read his book - rules for a knight ,
It is a fine piece of work with very important life lessons in it. His first book I also read - the hottest state - bit disappointing but I’ll give Ash Wednesday a try - great guy
"I saw you acting." lolㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ That's cute
I love Ethan like I love Robert Sean Leonard. Can't help it.
I love White Fang
Great actor, very genuine and talented, unpretentious and underrated. Now it is very painful though to listen to the interviewer who is one of the worst I have ever heard. The guy laughs at most of what he says, often sounds like he is eating when he talks, mostly asks yes/no questions that go nowhere and simply sounds like he knows nothing about anything. My gosh, how is this person interviewing celebrities or anyone at all?
he was amazing in maudie
It's sounds like Philip Seymour Hoffman asking the questions.
Gattaca was awesome from the jump.
ethan. please gawd don't tell me you forgot to shave the other side of your face. 😆LOVE YOU. YOU INSPIRE ME
15:20 I love how he says "important movies" in air quotes. So right, go ahead and give birdman the Oscar but in 100 years I'm sure no one will care, but Boyhood will last the centuries.
Are you sure that's not just a reflection of how you feel ? Cause I'm reality they're both amazing works of film but if anytnkng boyhood wouldn't pass the test of time like something like Birdman I don't think he's at all alluding to that film
Birdman isn't an "important movie". I think he's more referencing "issue" movies that deal with politics/race/etc. And it's better than Boyhood, which was good.
You have things mixed up. Bird man is a masterpiece and Boyhood is a gimmick movie.
That's not true. It's one thing to like boyhood better but that's a bit hyperbolic
Honest as fuckkkkk, nice Job !!!!
THE HAPPY READER | ISSUE Nº6 - SPRING 2016 ETHAN HAWKE Great Magazine!
Omg Gattaca hair
Just a couple hours away.
What about White Fang ? How old was he
He could have easily went down the same child actor path of destruction, but his parents pulled him out until he matured. The best choice they ever made with him, I feel he would be a has been, instead of a huge star
Could you please re enable automatic captioning for non english viewers ? I mean bad captions are better than no captions at all. Almost all of the time a bad transcribed word is easy to spot, and often easy to correct when reading. Thanks
hey David you think will we get to see a DP/30 Winona Ryder anytime soon??
Before the DP knows your name
He's telling us so much about what a hellhole Hollywood is without actually putting it in words.
100%
Jack London? Or who? Can answer?
I'm not gay but... damn.
I feel ya.
JAKE ! JAKE ! GIVE ME MY MONEY !!
+Femi B king Kong ain't got shit on me!!!!
he an adult actor now?
Brandon Boyce. NYC
What the hell had happened at the beginning before he sat down?
Why did you jump over Alive? In 1993? Went from white fang to reality bites... I want to hear about Alive!! Wtf why wouldnt that be a great experience to hear about.
I wish he would do a comedy. Like a real slap stick laugh riot. I guess Reality Bites was a comedy. Something like that but in middle age now.
dilf
At first he said cult than he said culture lol.hmmmm
He knew what he was saying !!!
This is funny, he's such a phoney baloney.. He'd go in and out of a Jack Nicolson vibe, hilarious.
Cocaine is one hell of a drug
