WHY Won't it START!?! - VINTAGE MX BUILD - 1974 Yamaha DT250 Pt3

- Why won't it start? As we continue building our 1974 Yamaha DT250 into a vintage MX racer, we clean the carb and try to start it...again...and again...and again.
After going through the whole carb several more times we finally land on a couple small things it may be. A small tear in the float bowl gasket? A clean but stuck pilot jet? With parts on order we turn our attention to some other maintenance items...
We replace the front fork oil, clean and lube the drive chain, and lube the clutch and brake cables.
Stay tuned for the next video because once it's running we can start building it into a weekend racer!

Nice video. Im rebuilding my DT50 too.
Watching these episodes is like reading a good murder mystery. Just can't wait to solve the next problem.
I'm as eager as you are!
That clutch cable is bringin' back memories. hashtag nomorespoilers
If it fires it will run, choke enrichment must work on cold start, remove exhaust resonator for start up,resonator may be plugged.
fork seals help it to start?
Just some routine maintenance
Do you have any videos on how to set timing on a 75 dt250 without a dial indicator?
I've just acquired a 74 dt 100. From what I understand you need to line up the TDC marks on the flywheel with those on the crankcase and set the points gap at that position. I have not done this yet myself and agree a video would be good. This is a good one even though he is using a dial indicator (ruclips.net/video/AEA5NxJDqSg/видео.html)
No videos, sorry. To get it the specified amount before top dead center, if I recall correctly 3.2 mm, you could also put something firm but flexible like a piece of metal hanger in the spark plug hole. Make a mark on it where it lines up with a reference point on the head at top dead center, and make another mark 3.2 mm above that on the rod. With it at top dead center rotate the engine backwards until the rod (and piston) falls 3.2mm down to the second mark.
It may not be exact, but these bikes will start and run even if you get it roughly set
Like video but kicking with crocs?
hard. core.
Most likely cracked solder joints in CDI or faulty Pulser coil regardless of resistance. There are multiple options but VAPE igntion is the best. The DT250 and especially DT400 (75-76) by 2023 almost always will kickback and barely start if at all. The will leave you stranded if you don't upgrade it. 1977 and onward stock electrical systems are much better.
The spoiler alert is stressing me out
That's what we in the literary world call foreshadowing
