- Today we will be looking over my 1973 Dodge charger. This car was given to me by my dad over 20 years ago and we have put very little time and effort into it. Its about time I actually start getting serious about this build and restore it to its former glory. This car came equip with a factory 400 big block but the motor ended up seizing up and my dad replaced it with a random big block that he found at the junkyard. Thinking that he had scored a 383 or 440, the engine in question was actually a mopar 361 big block from the early 60s. The 361 is the smallest of the mopar big block family and its has sat unmolested for almost 20 years. Now, its time to actually get this car road worthy and ready to hit the track.

Today we will be going over all the different engine/transmission options before we start tearing things apart, its so easy to just start removing the engine or transmission and have big plans but if you dont know exactly where you are going, it could cost you some big mistakes. We will be going over some options like the mopar big block 361, 383, 400, 413 and 440 as well as the stroker 413 and 451 combos as well. We also decide what the general game plan is going to be and going over the goals for the build.

Its time for the second installment of restoring my 1973 Dodge charger. Today I basically recap everything that I have done to the car up to this point, which is basically not much at all. As soon as you guys are caught up, I'll be able to get some real progress done on it!
Today is the first installment of Mopar Monday! I'll be spending the next couple of weeks spending a little bit of time on my old 1973 Dodge Charger SE. This car is outfitted with a 361 big block as well as a 727 automatic transmission. I'll be going through all the steps in getting this vehicle road worthy again!
Such a great body style. I'm starting at the beginning to watch this revival! Russell
Thanks man! I really appreciate it!
I'm not a Mopar man but if the Nightwrencher is doing videos on them... I'm gonna watch 👍 new subscriber
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
the 400ci Mopar is a great engine to build it has the biggest bore out of all the big block mopars including the 426 and the 440 the only thing wrong with the 400 is that it was a smog engine so it had low compression and lot's of emissions junk including the lean burn system but with a zero decked block with flat top pistons and a good set of heads it's a good strong engine and you could build a stroker too with a 440 crank in the 400 and turn it into a 451CI and with the right stuff you can have a 500HP killer engine
350 ci is the smallest mopar bb btw.
You're right, I read up on then a little while back. Its wierd that parts online used to say "383-400" and now they say "361-383" or "361-400". And if its a B/RB part it now reads "361-440" on a lot of parts.
@@nightwrencherperformance i grabbed up a 413 a couple years ago against the naysayers advice. It turned out to be bored to a 440 already , had solid iorn rockers and a wierd reverse ground cam with an angle cut gear drive. I like the odd motors. Ive always liked the idea of a good set of heads on a small cu in bbm but i never considered head gasket or chamber sise mismatch.
