    What I love the Clyde says is when Jamie's character says, "Then Darby and Ames would have gone free." Clyde literally says, "But at least you would have tried. I could live with that." The fact that the DA didn't try is the main point. Clyde wanted the system to truly punish criminals and the system is broken. To many plea bargains, precedence, etc. I don't make deals with murders anymore...Jamie's character finally got it in the end. I know Clyde was villain in this, but he had very good points. As father I can understand his angry at the system.

      This is what happens when a lawyer is not doing their job, they just want to close the case, they should experience to understand what the victim’s situation.

    • @perrycarters3113
      @perrycarters3113 2 месяца назад

      And if/when the DA fails and more killers go free because the evidence is not damning enough?
      The only evidence they had is Shelton's eyewitness testimony. The DNA evidence was inadmissible, so they could not present it in court.
      And a paralegal fresh out of class could rip Shelton to tatters on the witness stand. As soon as he admits he blacked out, they just bring in a doctor to say "Yes, memory can be unreliable in a case where you are beaten so bad that you black out."
      In a perfect world, Ames takes the deal and sends Darby to death row and Ames takes the lesser rap, but in a world where the prosecution refuses to offer deals to killers, when there's no plea deals or plea bargains for lesser sentences to incentivize them making the legal process faster, the courts become so quagmired and bogged down in process that nothing ever gets resolved.
      But, for whatever reason, Ames did not take the deal and Darby did, and their case against them was shaky *at best*.
      Dollars to donuts, they take Darby and Ames to trial, they both walk due to insufficient evidence and, despite his later protests to the contrary that he didn't care about revenge, Shelton finds and kills them for revenge.
      I don't see how anyone sees this movie and agrees with anything Shelton does after killing Darby. Sending the video to the family, killing the lawyer, the judge, his cellmate(no idea what he's in for so he may or may not have deserved it, but the distressing part is whether or not he deserved to die didn't matter to Shelton, he planned to kill his cellmate whoever they were, even if it was just tax evasion or a minor drug charge), bombing all those ADA's/AUSA's and then randomly gunning people down at a fucking funeral?
      Gerard Butler is a phenomenal actor and his entire crusade is carried by the fact that he oozes conviction and charisma, even though his cause is born from grief-induced madness. But he SOUNDS compelling, he acts like a man possessed with terrible purpose, so people blindly believe in his cause even when his methods are horrifying and that cause loses all coherence if you think about it for thirty seconds.

      Sure, the ending was always a little disappointing. But Clyde didn't actually lose - he got what he wanted. He changed Nick's mind and attitude (and made Nick someone who has more influence on how that system works). So some 'reformation' of the system. :D

    • @ViciousJango
      @ViciousJango 7 месяцев назад +4

      True. However the congress people are the power not Jamie’s Character so it doesn’t mean squat in the long run if he really did change. You have to cut the head of the snake to get actual results which is what Clyde was doing then Jamie was like Nooooo we can’t have that ending. If you think enough about it Evil still won at the end not Good which sucks! Love Clyde’s line “I’m going to bring the whole corrupt disease temple down on your head…it’s going to be Biblical.” Couldn’t have said it better. Appreciate your feedback by the way! 👍😎

    For anyone wondering, the Duxiana bed that he requested in prison...even a Twin-sized mattress starts at just under $6,000 and the Queen is nearly $9,000 and the King is nearly $12,000.

    Nick failed Clyde. Plain & simple. The downside is that Clyde had some serious skills and resources to carry out his own version of justice and the justice system underestimated him. He wasn’t crazy, he just had nothing to lose.

  • @redmoonbloodmoon3161
    @redmoonbloodmoon3161 7 месяцев назад +7

    the biggest plot twist of the movie:
    everything Clyde did was calculated/planned/intentional/with-a-purpose, "chester", so, the mysterious internet helper of that blond girl prosecutor-assistant of Nick's that got blown up, is Clyde himself, who else would have all of that property information of Clyde's that was hidden in the other country, other than Clyde himself? Clyde intentionally sent his own property information to Nick's blond female prosecutor-assistant via the online alias of "chester", to get himself caught of his crimes, as he too must receive the punishments for his crimes of all of the innocent ones that got killed as collateral damage, as he teaches/changes Nick into the prosecutor that all prosecutors are suppose to be like, as well as, giving Nick the power needed to do so, becoming the DA (district attorney) of the entire state, whatever state it is within the US, never payed attention to where they were, lol (as that old guy, that was Nick's "mentor", he was the DA of whatever the state that they were in, and so, when Clyde killed him, Nick got to become his replacement, as the new DA)
    --------------------
    Nick commits the EXACT same "vigilante murder/justice/revenge" against Clyde, as Clyde did to Darby, Ames, and the other guilty members of Nick's team (but also some collateral damage to the more innocent ones too), when Nick put Clyde's bomb in his cell, intentional and knowingly and maliciously, of the consequences/results in so doing so, it does not matter that Clyde pressed the button, Nick still committed the EXACT same "vigilante murder/justice/revenge" against Clyde, as Clyde did to those guilty (and also less guilty/more-innocent) with the murder (and "R") of his wife and daughter, and the subsequent LACK of justice for them, by Nick's team
    --------------
    ~ "Justice, there's no word more loved by the people, and it does have a nice ring to it... , but, without ever exercising your own strength, you seek the death of others, at the hands of someone else, well, the justice you refer to, smells pretty rotten to me, the stench of a blood bath..."

    The idea of the mattress and food in prison is to get the other inmates to hate him. Once he murders his cellmate, they can't put him in a different cell as the other inmates will want to hurt him as well. So Butler's character is doing his best to get place in solitary confinement cells.

    "You think your wife and daughter would feel good about you killing in their name?"
    "My wife and daughter can't feel anything. They're dead."
    I fully condemn vigilantism.
    Fun Fact: In real life, Gerard Butler studied law and was close to being a lawyer before becoming an actor.
    Cameos Cameos Fact: In the scene where the Mayor (Viola Davis) is swearing in Nick (Jamie Foxx) as the new District Attorney, the man holding the bible is Michael A. Nutter, the actual mayor of Philadelphia at the time of filming. The detective who hands Garza the evidence bag after the execution scene is director F. Gary Gray.
    MPAA Hacks Fact: Gerard Butler stated in an interview that a scene where a character is murdered by being repeatedly stabbed with a steak bone was so gory that the MPAA gave the film's initial cut an NC-17 rating solely on that basis. When an edited version with much less blood (though still graphically violent) was submitted, the film was immediately granted an R rating.
    Casting Notes Fact: While Gerard Butler was originally signed and announced to play the role of Nick Rice, there are different stories about how Jamie Foxx took on that role and Butler was re-cast as Cylde Shelton. In one version, Foxx called the producers and asked if Butler would like to play Clyde Shelton instead, as he liked the role of Nick. When the producers approached Butler about playing Clyde, he thought about it for a second and enthusiastically approved. However, Butler also said in an interview that HE suggested the role switch between himself and Foxx via his role as a producer on the film. Butler also said that he initially regretted that this idea was implemented by the other producers, but added that the entire process worked out well for the project.

      I agree. It didn’t ruin the movie for me. Both sides won and loss. Clyde got his revenge on the men who took his family from him while simultaneously teaching Nick a valuable lesson about true justice. It’s not about padding numbers and being politically correct. It’s about doing the right thing even if that means taking a loss. Nick lost many friends and colleagues. Yes, he ultimately foiled Clyde’s plan in the end and some may see that as “winning” but is it? He will never be the same. He will spend more time with his family and most importantly he will no longer make deals with murderers. I would have liked to see an alternate ending but I’m mostly fine with the ending we got 🤷‍♂️
