A huge part of what keeps the audience loving Gerard Butler is not just his charisma, it's also the fact that he's a normal dude doing his best. I believe that since he never truly made it big, he still has maintained that level of "the everyday man". Sure, not all of us will be able to land Hollywood roles like him but he still feels like someone who is like the rest of us and lives in reality.

Never made it big??? 300 has the record for being the 24th highest grossing opening weekend in box office history as well as that movie being a huge success. How to train your dragon, Den of Thieves and its upcoming sequel I imagine is going to do well also. Even Phantom of the Opera was successful film. Wild statement to make saying he never made it big just because he’s a celebrity that prefers not being in the limelight

What i'm hearing here is that if you've got a good actor that the audience likes, it really doesn't matter if the movie flops, noone but the critics are blaming that actor. Everyone still loves him (except critics), he's fine.
Plus, some of those 'flops' were actually decent films. I absolutely loved him in Reign of Fire for instance and i own it on DVD. Noone dropped the ball on that, it just didn't light the box office on fire. Dragons just didn't really, for some ironic reason, at the time. Rock n Roller also doesn't deserve to be considered 'bad' imo. It does what it says on the tin and with that, i'm off to have a conference in the khazi.

I've only seen him in 300 and he looks so different I don't even recognise him, he doesn't strike me as a "star", more like an elevated extra.

300 is his best movie, too bad he didn’t do the second one! I don’t understand why Gerard Butler got so poorly cast? He is such a good actor especially with 300, Law Abiding Citizen, RocknRolla, Watchmen an other favorite! Loved the Train your Dragon!

I don't care....I will watch Gerry whatever he's in. For the record....I loved The Phantom of the Opera ❤. I have seen the show 4 times....and yes, Gerard is not as trained in his vocals as the (amazing) Phantoms you see on the stage.... however, his acting is brilliant and for me his voice is a nice change and suits the character within the context of the movie.
I also, really enjoyed the movie, Timeline....it's a good, easy and entertaining watch...a rainy Sunday afternoon film....and that's not a bad thing.
Critics just want these over the top, heavily messaged movies all the time now....but I think most of us agree that we just want to escape and be entertained for 2 hours. Gerry delivers that....and he's easy on the eyes too. 😍

I always find his movies to be entertaining even though you can tell that some of them didn't have that big of a budget.

You never mentioned the film “Coriolanus”, which was a weird mix of action and drama. I really liked it 😂

He’s got a lot of sleeper roles - Rock n Rolla, Hunter Killer, Den of Theives, Cop Shop and he was great in Law abiding Citizen -he has the screen presence- plus he’s the kinda guy you could hang with without felling like a fan boy!
