Yeah, so many thought it was when Gabriel left, but the first 2 albums without him were still quite good. But when Steve left that really had a way bigger impact.
@@PrinceEnki2112 hello of course he is himself a holy a mighty man but people get to him too superficialy , he is incontact with is soul most of the time !
Steve invented the hammer style long before Edward Van Halen got the idea from Steve. Very evident during early 70s genesis! So rich and smooth of a guitar player. Strives to make guitar sound like another instrument!
I don't know why, but I think Steve Hackett and Peter Gabriel were the best, the kindest and the most easygoing human beings in Genesis. All great musicians of course, the five of them.
@@agtbruinsman7190 Relax, don't get angry. You may be right. The thing is, I don't know much about Anthony Phillips, except that he had a kind of stage fright. After that, I don't know much else. Can you believe this: I live in Sydney, Australia, and I had tickets to see Steve Hackett in June 2020, it was suspended. I have tickets to see it on Saturday 30 (next Saturday) and it was suspended again. Now they postponed it to May 26, 2021. And the tickets I bought are "Meet and Greet" and first row. I want to kill myself !!!🎸
I am the same age as Steve..never bothered to listen to Genesis..then saw the Genesis Reunited RUclips interview...Steve was so charming and modest I decided to check him out-he is fabulous
Spectral Mornings and Clocks, which are both featured in the above Video (Clocks not Titled with Video) are probably two of Steve's best Solo tracks. I was lucky enough to see the original album Tours Steve did to promote his albums when they were originally released when he appeared at Newcastle City Hall - those were the 'heady days' of Progress Rock, the likes of which will never exist again!!!
Classic era Genesis has a depth of tone that is unique. His " solos " arent like most solos in that they are highly original. I think he was very influenced by Fripp but took it somewhere new. You never feel like Steve is shredding or showing off, it's all integral to the piece.
The moment I heard this all those years ago, it was hard wired to my heart and soul, the emotional evocation for me has never waned, thank you Steve for this personal treasure.
First heard this on the radio, way back when I was coming off a night shift to a beautiful spring morning. Gave me goosebumps the and now. Simply great
Holy smokes. I'm still listening to this. Remember getting it the month I graduated high school in New Orleans. Much older now, but still amazed by Mr. Hackett.
Just sent this to my friend Paul who should have been on the Prog Rock Cruise today listening to Steve had it not been for the virus. Good morning Paul
Es un super..virtuoso !!!! Espero que regrese al BAJA PROG 2014 con su musica. En 2013 nos deliramos con GENESIS REVISITED en Mexicali, Mexico!!! fue un concierto GRAN..DIOSO!!!! Gracias Steve !!!
The Clint Eastwood look. We can hear where the soaring cathedral Genesis comes from. Ironically, from the guy that didn't have Chapel every morning at Charterhouse.
This forceful, uplifting melody is going the be remembered for years to come. Bass plays 3rd, as well as other variations that does'nt distract, but rather adds to the haunting, richness of the song.
I still have the VHS of this gig - hearing this version reminds me of getting back from work at 11pm, aged 19/20 in 1992. Put this on the TV, listening through the headphones, while eating a doner kebab (yes, I ate them sober)
Now I am gonna see the young Eastwood from the 1st Dirty Harry movie everytime I hear this...lol...maybe if an audience member gets up during his guitar solo, he will casually reach into his jacket and pull his .44 magnum...LOL
A perfect illustration of why Genesis (despite much later success), were never the same after Steve left. Huge loss.
A loss for Genesis? Yes. A loss for Hackett? I'm not sure.
Yeah, so many thought it was when Gabriel left, but the first 2 albums without him were still quite good. But when Steve left that really had a way bigger impact.
Mike and Tonys sound was leftover Steve Hackett!!
I am so agree with U, my dearest music-friend :-) Regards from MiChAeL here in Denamrk :-)
Absolutely. I think Gabriel was not that essential, but Steve was.
Steve Hackett has THE most distinctive finger vibrato in rock music, as far as I'm concerned! It's instantly recognisable.
For me its the emotion he seems to get from his guitars. Quite incredible, never heard anyone else do that.
I play this masterpiece every morning before heading out to work. Makes the traffic and stress easier to deal with.
Every day this is it.
Blood pressure drop.
Heavenly

I do too...a great way to start the day’s mood...🥰
The great thing about Steve's playing is how he evokes emotions more so than any 1 else I've ever heard.
Spot on comment. Just saw him live and it is a religious experience!
The Ciaconne of Bach men Hackett is a classical composers when he left Genesis ....???
So catchy2. I can be anywhere & finmyself whistling these awesome full depth solos. Very signature. Peace & Love all...
no one others can play this guys look Steve look his fingers ruclips.net/video/iJBAWj4TwRE/видео.html

Eddie himself admites that.
Steve didn't invent it. He was one of the first prominent pioneers of the 'tapping' technique
Roy Smeck did finger tapping (hammering) on ukulele in the 1930's. He was born in 1900.
Steve has such a haunting beautiful tone , he squeezes so much emotion out of every note
That guitar really sing, and talks, and whispers, and sings...
One of his most beautiful pieces.
imagine Voyage Live Album , i seen Montreal , Hackett Brain Historic Prog

The most beautiful morning you can listen to.....
Spectral Mornings ???
No matter how many times i hear Steve Hackett play Spectral Mornings, it never gets old and just keeps on getting better and better with every listen.

He's brilliant, a beautiful musician.
Agree
Not only is Steve a legendary guitar player, but he has such incredible stage presence and charisma
I caught him coming out of the dressing room and shook him firmly by the hand. Still have not washed . He is a musical god

For my taste the best version played live by Steve Hackett.

Ringrazio Dio perchè riesco ancora ad emozionarmi come un ragazzino all'ascolto di questa meraviglia !!!!
Anche io, Guido.
I have blasted the original of this into my brain, countless times in college!!!.
As fresh and uplifting now as I first heard it back in the early 70s - a truly heartlifting masterpiece that I return to time again. Thank you Steve,
The master of masters of guitar-playing in action, no doubt at all...

Hauntingly beautiful, and hes still touring. You gotta Love him.
Steve has a magic touch on the guitar. He is an absolutely unique player.

for me the best live perfrmance of this
A pleasure to be reminded of seeing Steve in Derby in the early 80s and at Milton Keynes for the Six Of The Best classic Genesis reunion gig. Bravo!
so much emotion and how many memories...the greatest artist!
This is the most beautiful song that I cannot be without.

Wonderful tune and a superb bass line.
Simply brilliant! A genius!
Great guitars, and a rest for the mind!So '80's,reminds me of those periode.Videos of all songs!
Just sent this to my friend Paul who should have been on the Prog Rock Cruise today listening to Steve had it not been for the virus. Good morning Paul
Superb. If I'm not mistaken, that's his brother John Hackett playing guitar on the right side
A master of tone!
La mejor selección musical

SIMPLEMENTE... SUBLIME, GENIAL.
Lo mejor del progresivo sin duda
Saw em only twice first in 1979, Nijmegen 3 hours+loud and everything vibrated still does😅🎉🎉🎉❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
I'd have this played at my funeral but it'd have the place in tears so I'll just stick with 'Agadoo'
La mejor de todas las progresivas....!

Frank Hartis Wish more people would pay attention to these sorts of musical details.
God how I miss the 2oth Century & Original Genesis.......Undeniably Steve's Best
His genesis revisited tour beats last genesis show I saw when there were only three members left
No, he does not. In the above video he was at his best. The thin piercing sounds his LP makes these days hurt my ears. To bad.
One of the reasons I picked up the guitar long ago.. his classical and acoustic style blows me away as does his playing technique.
While I was in college, I would play the original recording of this in my car on the way to the beach after my Latin class.
My absolute number one song
Beautiful, beautiful black Beauty! Gibson Les Paul! Master Steve that kissed my hand.... Hummmmmmm..... Blue eyes too...
Its a Burny with a sustainer pickup.
mi ricorda la mia gioventu' 35anni fa' . molto bella
Still watching him in 2020

amazing that the last comment was 13 yrs ago, I love it and watch every footage of Steve, the greatest imo of solo emotions in guitar.
in 1978 I saw his first solo gig in holland, I was twenty still in stool, it was in Utrecht, never forget it, what a performance, I m now 65 haha
This is such a cool set of songs of Steve’s.
Spectacular!! Merveilleux!!🎶🎶🎶🎶🤩👏👏👏👌
merci Steve , sublime Album
Come diceva il giovane Holden...classe a strabenedire!!!👏👏👏👏👏
Sublime melodía para apreciar...lo máximo!

La perfección hecha música...!👍🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻🤗
This reminds me of Andy Latimer. Not many out there who can equal this IMHO.
When Steve left Genesis, 'Genesis' went with him.
God how true
CHARLES NOLAN SUPERB OBSERVATION!! 👍 👍 👍 👍
truth....
Not, but still nice to Steve Hackett, ;) .
Absolutely, I love his solo albums way more than Genesis' output after he left.
Anyone in South Florida, Steve is playing Parker Playhouse Ft Laud., March 24 2020!!!!!!!
