There's NOTHING today in the so called music industry that can TOUCH this!! Thank you YES for being part of the tapestry of our lives! You should be proud of the contribution you made to peoples lives! You are PURE talent and happiness! You can't imagine the joy and meaning you brought into peoples lives!! I thank you from the bottom of me heart!
1977 I sung yes in the shower at 17 , and now at 64 , I still sing yes in the shower and enjoy their music just as much . the last 47 years went by so so fast . So happy to have had this music for my soul to enjoy ........
Advice from a grey-beard to youngsters today. Attend live concerts of your favorite musical acts whenever you can. The things that you have, cars, clothes, gadgets will be long forgotten. But the concerts will be forever memories that you'll cherish. Bands break up. Members pass away. See them live now. You might not get another chance.
The whole stucture of this song is genius. My God, there is nothing like YES. Thank God I grew up with this music and band.
I thank god too. Almost forgot that loving feeling from back when. But it still comes thru. This song and Yes hit me deep back when i was young. You got 16 like all of them over 70 years old/ like me.
Yes počúvam od svojich 17 - tich, dnes mám 65 a stále mi majú čo povedať. Videl som ich naživo vo Viedni v chladnej koniarni. Anderson povedal: "Dnes z nej urobíme Yes house!" A urobili...
I was thinking the same thing yesterday while listening to Emerson Lake & Palmer. That led me to thinking about the greats of that unique era, Yes, along with Rick Wakemen’s Journey to the Center of the Earth & The Six Wives of Henry the Eighth, Tommy the Who, & The Moody Blues Dark Side of the Moon for starters.

This song and I have history. I became a Yes fan at a young age, I am the youngest of 4, my oldest brothers introduced me to Classic Rock in elementary school. My brother Tom bought Yessongs album for my 18th birthday. And you and I quickly became my favorite Yes song. As fate has it, we were listening to that song when our grandfather passed away. We lived in his house, and he was a huge influence on us. I was the baby so we were very close. It was no coincidence that " And you and I " was playing
We really did have superior music back in the day. The variety... the talent.. the uniqueness.. the artistry. Each group had its signature sound, and YES was soooo true to such distinctiveness. So rich... so different... so gratifying. Jon Anderson's soaring tenor voice is unmatched, yet the guitar work is seductive, as well. 10 minutes of pure heaven... wow.
No one knows how meaningful Yes was to me as a young teen. They probably saved my life by filling my heart with their music beyond what I thought was possible. It helped me weather setbacks.

When younger, much younger, l saw YES and JETHRO TULL many times. 5 times and 4 times respectively. Last YES concert l saw, my buddy and l got tickets for 6-8 friends. We all rode together in a van. Kept secret about the tickets, handed them out at the gate, 3rd ROW to see YES on the revolving stage with WAKEMAN on keboards, wearing his cape. Everybody was blown away about the seats. Absolutely a blast. Two of my ALL TIME favorites.
Back when albums were all top tier music with no fillers. Can't really pick a favorite song from 'Close to the Edge'. End up playing the whole album if I even think of one song. IMO top five groups and albums ever.
Probably my biggest regret in life... I had a ticket to see Yes in Louisville in 1979 and got the flu the day before the show. Sick as a dog with a fever so I couldn't go. All my friends (and brother) raved about the show and tormented me with their "In The Round" T-Shirts for years. I got the last laugh though when I got to see Wakeman play a 200 seat bar in Abu Dhabi at "The Club" in the mid 2000s. It was great because he joined everyone at the pub afterward (drinking only water) and we talked till the wee hours. Great memory with one of, if not THE greatest keyboard player ever. Regaled us with stories about being uncredited and unpaid by Cat Stevens, buying a racehorse from the royal family, living in a windmill in Holland... a night I'll never forget!! Thanks for the music and the memories and congrats Sir Rick for being named a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire!

I actually went to that show in Louisville (1979) along with my wife and some of her family. I was the designated driver, because I was never a drug user. That was the most awesome concert I have ever seen. The light show was spectacular. I kept thinking throughout the show that I saw a harp elevated on a platform in the shadows. Then, later in the show, the spotlight lit it up and the harpist ascended to the platform it was sitting on. I don't recall who played it, but I think it may have been Jon Anderson.
The last time I saw the classic line up do AYAI it was in Glasgow maybe 15-or so years ago with my son Ross and as the audience were on there feet I had tears in my eyes as it was THAT GOOD. And Radio Caroline will play the track uncut too. Thanks for the music bro. 🥰

@@victorlamothe6732 Chris Squire passed away, yes, but his legacy as a player is preserved. Their classic piece was Close to the Edge and this may have been a close second. Go back to Fragile and listen to his solo piece, The Fish
That was just STUNNING, I saw them live in 1978, so I know how good they are. There aren't many bands that can come close to YES Live, truly UNTOUCHABLE
@@chriscoughlan5221 It was Stafford Bingley Hall, truly amazing live, how they play live like they do on their studio albums. A proper supergroup. Close to the edge down by the river, seasons will by you by, i get up i get down, fantastic

Jon Anderson never did better than when he sang this. My man Wakeman on keyboards is what I would have loved to emulate but quickly learned that level of musician is genius and above my dreams. Love this forever❤
Oh how I miss the music of the late '60's through the '70's...music today really sucks. The big "stars" of today don't have the talent these guys have in their pinkies. Bands like Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, ABB...now THAT was music...
Hmmm you're not really searching!!! For example check Patrick watson's bollywood...or hearts...of course YES is on another level but these watson tracks are delightful!!!
@brucesilverman ...and Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Deep Peuple, Jeff Beck were very good too. But listen Steve Reich's music like "electric counterpoint" and many other pièces : it is awesome music.
One of the best intros ever for a song. Still hold this thought since I was 8 years old listening to the 7 inch on my brother's turntable back in the early 70's.
WITHOUT A CRYSTAL BALL I FEAR THAT YOU ARE PROBABLY CORRECT, BUT AT LEAST THE FUTURE OF HIGH QUALITY MUSIC HAS THIS PROFOUND EXAMPLE OF PRECISELY NEAR PERFECT ARTISTRY AND MAGIC TO BE INSPIRED BY AND THEN POSSIBLY EXCEED THE BAR THAT THEY SET SO INCREDIBLY HIGH.
YES is why I play music and why I've owned my guitar repair business since for 49 years. OBVIOUSLY, I am not the only one who resonates with this incredible band and their songs. When I heard Roundabout in 74 or 75, my life absolutely changed. As soon as I could collect my thoughts, I quit piano lessons and picked up the guitar I was not allowed to touch. Never looked back. YES has been a lesson that has been life-long!
God how I miss the 20th century! Picture Perfect & Amazing rendition from this Band! Omg! tears in my eyes now! All those fond fond memories of friends & family who are gone & lost
This song blew my young mind at 13. It encapsulates some of humanities very few saving graces. Creativity , curiosity and of course , love. Anderson reaching out to the cosmos for higher wisdom, then looking back at himself and us for appreciation and reflection.Hope in a future governed by reason over superstition. And in one of music's most serendipitous moments, finds himself in a band filled with the brightest and most talented musicians to score it perfectly.
After loving Yes for more than 50 years, there is little that moves me in the same way. My all time favourite live album Is Yessongs, Relayer still takes me on a journey....I am priviledged to have been a part of that growth in our musical evolution
Well, i think this is the best song I've ever hear, it's marvelous but sweet , with a lot of temp they make a very difficult song , nobody's make a talentous work like YES , simply the perfect song of all time , thank you YES for existing.
My college roommate introducted me to Yes in 1973 and I was never the same. Steve Howe inspired me to play guitar. What a collection of talented players.
So few people realize that this song is about Jesus and his mission & message! As great as the music is, And it is a monumental & magical work of art, to me the lyrics are the greatest part of this song! Jon Anderson is a genius for writing these lyrics!
You can tell how much steve howe likes this piece of music😊went to see the 50th anniversary last April and he single handedly held the audience with his guitar what a musician..from a millenial
Wow what great memories! Great song! What a fabulous piece of music! Will never be duplicated!Yes in the round was at this tour! Seen Yes at least 10 times and even got to meet them! Chris Squire was the nicest person! Wow what a masterpiece!
I still get goosebumps in 2024 at 74, the sweetest music remindsme of the pure mountain air.and trips canoeing down the Chatooga in N.C. the sights the sounds, the light shining thru the mountain trees, pure light!
I was lucky enough to see their 1978 tour supporting 'Tormato' tour in Los Angeles as well as in 2015 in Chicago. Breath-taking showmanship, unmatched talent.
That's the art in full intensity of creation and performance. Where is the real music in nowadays around the globe? Nothing compares these genius from 60s.70s.80s....
Saw this Union event at Wembley, along with other Yes concerts, the best experiences ever. Musically and emotionally unsurpassable. Jon Anderson irreplaceable.
Tears of joy and happiness running down my cheeks as I recall hours of sitting listening to the album with my best friend, who is sadly no longer with us and later that year seeing them live for the first of many time in different countries and venues throughout Europe. Thank you Yes and everyone whoever played in this wonderful band❤️❤️❤️
I was also there in Philadelphia on July 12-13, 1991 during the Yes Fest event at the Sheraton and in the round at the Spectrum. That Friday performance still ranks as one of the best concert experiences I ever witnessed.
Wow I would have loved to see Yes in concert I’m a fan from the 1980s MTV “Owner of a Lonely Heart”and I had a YES record album Fragile it had Runabout and another big hit was “I’ve seen all good people “which got a lot of radio airplay back then around here.
There is nothing quite like Yes. The most extraordinary musicianship and writing. I can barely comprehend how they put songs (isn’t that too small a word - symphonies?) like this together in the studio but live with just six musicians is beyond belief. Thank you Jon, Chris, Steve, Rick, Bill, Alan.
Saw them in Toronto for the first time on this tour. Wow! I'd never been to a big concert before and the stadium was packed. I think Jon waved at me when I waved. Haha! A typical fan. I was young, but to hear them play live and perform the music as good as and often better than the album production told me they were/are one of the greatest bands on Earth.
Extraordinarios. Este tour realizado por Yes fue de los mejores que he escuchado. Todos los integrantes muestran su calidad interpretativa individual, que en el conjunto alcanza una música magistral.
What a treat to stumble across this video! This band still makes me happy after all these years (62)! We sure did a lot of drugs to this music back in the 1970s.
My very first live concert was seeing Yes in February of 1974 during the “Tales From Topographic Oceans” Tour. Saw them four times after that during the ‘70s. They were such a big part of my life as an adolescent and I’ll always be grateful I grew up in a time when music was transcendent. The musical landscape has suffered the same fate as the natural one during the intervening years.
Cobo Hall - Detroit My friend Chris' older brother had a record collection that would've rivaled any of the FM stations. Thought the albums were terrific, but live.. blew me away. Anytime they were inntown, we were there; $8.50 Mainfloor !
Had the great fortune of seeing YES live 3 times. Extraterrestrial each time. Trippin' w/o a drug. Thank you for helping me get through some tough teen age years...
I've lost count of the number of times I've seen Yes in concert since the Drama tour in 1980. This song has featured in nearly all of the shows, and deservedly so. It's a masterpiece.
For the fools out there what you are seeing here is literally 100 years of talent between all musicians on that stage. To get to this level of synchronization it takes not only skill but absolute devotion to the Music style you are writing and composing with decades of practice.
Your presumption that fools will visit this video, is precisely opposite of my experience. All the people I know who like Yes, are quite intelligent, anything but fools. And if perhaps somebody was not aware of their Musical prowess, they would most likely be ignorant, not fools. TY
I live in St Petersburg and I have seen yes 12 times, I saw them at the mahaffey theater and Jon Davison was the singer at that time and I also caught them on March 11th 2011 at jannus landing and Benoit David was the singer at that time. It was amazing to have Steve Alan and Chris at such a small and intimate venue, and I can't leave out Rick's son Oliver I saw them at Ruth Eckerd Hall Lakeland Civic center Tampa fairgrounds Tampa Bay performing arts center also Jon did a benefit show albeit a short one at Coachman Park in Clearwater.
@@cindydahl9635 Wow,that’s an amazing amount of viewings. I saw them at the old Bayfront Center which I believe is gone now. I think it was 1971. Used to see all the great bands there. @@victorlamothe6732 Chris Squire passed away, yes, but his legacy as a player is preserved. Their classic piece was Close to the Edge and this may have been a close second. Go back to Fragile and listen to his solo piece, The Fish
What a beautiful piece of music and what a band.
That was just STUNNING, I saw them live in 1978, so I know how good they are. There aren't many bands that can come close to YES Live, truly UNTOUCHABLE
o yes
i saw them the same year in stratford bingley hall!! amazing!!
@@chriscoughlan5221 It was Stafford Bingley Hall, truly amazing live, how they play live like they do on their studio albums. A proper supergroup. Close to the edge down by the river, seasons will by you by, i get up i get down, fantastic
@@davehooper5115 I almost didn't see them, I lost my ticket and had to wait til the last person entered the hall!!!!
They mustve pittied me!!! Happy me!!
@@chriscoughlan5221 Thank God you managed to see them you were very lucky indeed. To have missed that concert would have been suicide city lol
Jon Anderson never did better than when he sang this. My man Wakeman on keyboards is what I would have loved to emulate but quickly learned that level of musician is genius and above my dreams. Love this forever❤
His vocals on The friends of Mr Cairo with Vangelis Tribute album to the old time Hollywood greats equally great ❤️
Oh how I miss the music of the late '60's through the '70's...music today really sucks. The big "stars" of today don't have the talent these guys have in their pinkies. Bands like Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, ABB...now THAT was music...
Me too!
We can get Gen Z to like this music.
One of the best intros ever for a song. Still hold this thought since I was 8 years old listening to the 7 inch on my brother's turntable back in the early 70's.
YES, when music was real, we will sadly never see their like again.
Gotta be one their best songs. It rings with my soul and makes me happy hearing opening notes with Steve and rick.
I saw them do it live and I still get chills every time I hear it!
I saw them live too. They’re the best!
Yes, of course it's one of their best songs. And Close to the Edge is one of their best albums.

Changed my life at 18. Even more so at 58.
See Narnia Code.
OMG brother you said it
great show in 70 or 71 at Asbury Convention Hall...Yes opened for Tull !
After loving Yes for more than 50 years, there is little that moves me in the same way. My all time favourite live album Is Yessongs, Relayer still takes me on a journey....I am priviledged to have been a part of that growth in our musical evolution
Mine also! Rick Wakemans solo including the Hallelujah Chorus rendition was fantastic. Saw them perform that in 72.
Well, i think this is the best song I've ever hear, it's marvelous but sweet , with a lot of temp they make a very difficult song , nobody's make a talentous work like YES , simply the perfect song of all time , thank you YES for existing.
This is a three-year late reply I have to agree with you I just wish they would have kept John in a group the song is pushing and very memorable to me
You're so correct with that I hope you get this
Wow! What a collection of music and musicians. Still one of my favorite pieces of music.
My college roommate introducted me to Yes in 1973 and I was never the same. Steve Howe inspired me to play guitar. What a collection of talented players.
They each were virtuoso in their own right but together they just blew EVERYONE away!
This is real music. We held up lighters, today's audiences hold up cell phones to take pictures and miss the magic moments of a live concert.
Toujours debout 😊, toujours vivant, toujours aussi bons, pas une ride sur la musique, la voie est toujours excellente houaou 😅génial. Merci pour le retour.
Just realised this song was released 50 years ago. Close to the edge was the first rock LP i ever bought and had the most amazing album cover ever.
Me too.
+1. I first heard the organ part from Close to the Edge in a Gead shop, pipes and black light posters, 1972
I remember the Union tour well. This is the greatest super group ever. Yes has been my band since 1975. Timeless.
RIP Chris and Alan.
After seeing YES many times, this just brings a peace to my soul unimaginable.
Masterpiece!! Time divided me from this one. I'm now 62 and never again..
At 66 yo ,im not sure anything will ever match this ❤❤🤟🏽🤟🏽
Posiblemente la mejor versión de esta canción en directo, pasarán 100 años y seguirá sonando igual de bien, las obras de arte no caducan y esto es una maravilla.

RIP Chris Squire, fantastic bass & vocals !

WOW!!!!!! I ACCIDENTALLY FORGOT HOW ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE THEY ARE! WHAT!!!!!? JUST INCREDIBLE
Fantastic - sounds like a Symphony Orchestra with all the members!
So few people realize that this song is about Jesus and his mission & message! As great as the music is, And it is a monumental & magical work of art, to me the lyrics are the greatest part of this song!
Jon Anderson is a genius for writing these lyrics!
Nothing can touch this today. The music of this era was diverse and amazing.
We just spent a week relaxing on the beach. My Bose Bluetooth speaker played Yes every day. At 72 I'm still hooked.
I was blessed to see this tour in South Florida! A memory I'll cherish forever!
You can tell how much steve howe likes this piece of music😊went to see the 50th anniversary last April and he single handedly held the audience with his guitar what a musician..from a millenial
I will never forget the first time I heard this. To see them play this live now leaves me in total astonishment.
Wow what great memories! Great song! What a fabulous piece of music! Will never be duplicated!Yes in the round was at this tour! Seen Yes at least 10 times and even got to meet them! Chris Squire was the nicest person! Wow what a masterpiece!
unforgettable group I am almost eigthy but it is still a great joy to listen to their music

I still get goosebumps in 2024 at 74, the sweetest music remindsme of the pure mountain air.and trips canoeing down the Chatooga in N.C. the sights the sounds, the light shining thru the mountain trees, pure light!
Chris will remain underrated in perpetuity. RIP young man
...Chris Squire made playing the Rick' with a pick cool !!!
@JaneHobson-on3jj hahaha. Never heard that. Backer Rocker.
I was lucky enough to see their 1978 tour supporting 'Tormato' tour in Los Angeles as well as in 2015 in Chicago. Breath-taking showmanship, unmatched talent.
I still remember my first live concert of Emerson, Lake and Palmer in 1974 in Rotterdam. Later the show of Genesis and Yes. . Good memories.
That man’s voice is even better after all these years! Fantastic!!!!
The new album is a gem. And Jon's approaching 80. Incredible!
There's nothing better than this just a comment from an old man
def one of the best live versions of this song ever
You csn see hes totally into that guitar. Fantastic.
Yeah the 12-string just sets it off. I used to jam on those 3 opening chords after I got my Martin D-12-20 back in the late 60s.
Rick Wakeman,Tony Kaye, Bill Bruford, Allen White, Steve Howe Trevor Rabin, seriously what more could you ask for in a Yes concert
Maybe Jon Anderson on vocals and Chris Squire on bass…but that would be it.
How could you not mention Chris and Jon.
I would ask for there never to have been any one called Trevor to ever have been involved.

You couldn't ask for more they were the best
Absolutely sublime music. I was fortunate to witness this performed from the fourth row center once.
That's the art in full intensity of creation and performance. Where is the real music in nowadays around the globe? Nothing compares these genius from 60s.70s.80s....
Thank you Michael! Real musicians, real music. Saw these guys a FEW times during their peak- ‘72-‘75. Damn they were good👨🏻🦳
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how the greatest virtuoso-musician band ever to play the planet does it!
Saw this Union event at Wembley, along with other Yes concerts, the best experiences ever. Musically and emotionally unsurpassable. Jon Anderson irreplaceable.
Check out Norman Watt-Roy, Anthony Harty and Gerry McEvoy. If you love bass, you will love these guys.
Bill Bruford is ridiculous good and the Thunder god Alan White. Cmon, it's too good. Still can't believe I got to see them on this tour. So grateful
I know! Me too. East Rutherford NJ.. It was phenomenal!
I was also there in Philadelphia on July 12-13, 1991 during the Yes Fest event at the Sheraton and in the round at the Spectrum. That Friday performance still ranks as one of the best concert experiences I ever witnessed.
I never knew they did this together, so cool. It must be so hard to play with bill’s quirky unique style
@@TXMusicDrummer I stayed at that Sheraton for the Grateful Dead in 1994.
Wow I would have loved to see Yes in concert I’m a fan from the 1980s MTV “Owner of a Lonely Heart”and I had a YES record album Fragile it had Runabout and another big hit was “I’ve seen all good people “which got a lot of radio airplay back then around here.
I do not think most young people today would have the patience or appreciation for this music.
they didn't in the seventies.....people asked me what music I liked...YES... they would say who?

Согласен на все100℅. Живу в России, за рулём слушаю эту музыку уже лет 15.
A lot of talent, many have mixed emotions about Rabin. They needed him and even if the music wasn't up to their standard it kept them relevant.
At Maple Leaf Gardens, mate? I saw them twice there, and interviewed Jon Anderson at the nearby Sutton Place hotel.
@@ashleyjudecollie wow! Lucky you. I would have loved to have met them, of course
I was at the same concert! I'm pretty sure Jon was waving at me too. :)
Extraordinarios. Este tour realizado por Yes fue de los mejores que he escuchado. Todos los integrantes muestran su calidad interpretativa individual, que en el conjunto alcanza una música magistral.
Every concert is a once in a lifetime mini miracle never to be duplicated again!
Thanks Brian. Changed my life. My art. My faith.
My story is much the same except my first concert was 1977 Yes in the Round Houston Coliseum
Cobo Hall - Detroit My friend Chris' older brother had a record collection that would've rivaled any of the FM stations. Thought the albums were terrific, but live.. blew me away. Anytime they were inntown, we were there; $8.50 Mainfloor !
My 1st Yes concert many years ago. Just a lad then,76 now and still rate them as one of the best bands ever. So much talent, live and real music 😊
Imagine sitting there live and realizing, and they do, that this moment will never be reproduced. This peak. You can tell from the audience response.
Bellísimo!!! amo YES, su voz, sus sonidos su desafío musical!
Had the great fortune of seeing YES live 3 times. Extraterrestrial each time. Trippin' w/o a drug. Thank you for helping me get through some tough teen age years...
Steve Howe has got to be my favourite guitarist. No cliches with string bending etc.. A slightly classical style all of his own. Absolutely lovely.
TY
@@DonaldMerrit That was my point so any fools attempting to add any dumb comments will be met what that message hehe.
