Either need to lock off and look in other direction (when safe) and then roll. Or you need to just hold a movment key at all times. If no movement key is being presses you only backs step.

@ASC3NS10N it's pretty easy if u have dodge on a mouse button, I've got abt 300 hrs on mnk for elden ring. Hardest part is not accidently moving ur mouse and switch who ur locked on to
For all the souls games on the controller, you need to play with claw grip to look around and be able to run at the same time. It makes a world of difference
