just so you know...... 2 handing a weapon means your strength stat is x 1.5
      other stats are unaffected
and without meeting the requirements your damage will be bad as it gets even if you level the stat that has the most scaling

It's so interesting to see a complete newbie experience the game. I almost don't want to give advice to keep the experience as "pure" as possible. But that isn't how the game is meant to be played, the notes are meant to be used by other players to help others. So, a few notes:
    >Two-handing increases strength by 50%
    >Vigour scales very weirdly, first slow, then fast, then slow again. 40 is healthy, 60 is tanky.
    >If you come to a fork in the path and see a message like "first off, Left then precious item/shortcut" you can almost always trust them.
    >You will get many opportunities to respec (reallocate your points) so don't be afraid to commit to a weapon or build. You can change your mind and try something else.
You are legit doing great learning. The game doesn't really become more complicated, it just begins to demand more precision. The easiest enemy and the hardest boss are beaten the same way: learn their moves, dodge their attacks, punish their openings.
    Looking forward to more

  • @connercooper9896

I’ll put this now while I’m watching. With the blood hounds fang, you have a secondary ash of war. After you use the ash of war tap your heavy attack and you dash forward and swipe, one of the reasons why it’s so good!
Always level, level requirements then scaling.
Bloodhounds fang is also quality affinity, meaning it scales really well with both str and dex leveled roughly equally

  • @MaidenlessScrub
    @MaidenlessScrub Месяц назад +67

Glad to see that you’re enjoying the game.
    Some notes:
Two handing a weapon only increases you STR, by 50% to be specific.
Instead of leveling endurance to gain more equip load, you can switch your armour parts for something lighter to get medium load for that sweet faster roll.
Not all dual wielding combos are good. Just test out first before deciding whether you want to two hand your weapon or dual wielding.

    • @Scowleasy

Little advice: people talk up the bloodhound's fang, and it is really good, but pretty much any weapon in the game can beat the game if you build for it. The great thing about fromsoft games is that basically every playstyle is valid. Don't worry about sticking to what's strong, do what feels fun.

He got the Claymore this ep. which IMO is one of the better weapons in the game and has been one of my favs since DS1. I would just recommend trying out a bunch of different weapons to find what you like best. Fun is more important than getting the "best" weapon for me, because almost everything in the game can be strong.

haven't finished the video yet, but the rule of thumb on levels: your #1 priority is meeting the minimum requirements on your weapon. after that, you want to just pump vigor (and occasionally put a point or two into endurance/mind if you need more stamina/fp). honestly once you meet the reqs, you can just ignore Str/Dex/Fth/Int until you get your vigor up to 40ish
i know it feels counter-intuitive not to up your offensive stat for so long, but as long as you keep your weapon upgraded you'll put out plenty of damage. in the early game HP gives you way more bang for the buck (both in terms of actual increase per level, and in you staying alive in fights long enough to even learn the moves)

    • @foemre

      Two Handing increases Poise Damage

  • @CalhanPthalo
    @CalhanPthalo Месяц назад +27

    Some tips:
    1. It is preferred to have a medium equip load or lower in combat at all times since it gives you a faster dodge roll and will help you not feel as sluggish during combat. You can increase your equipment load capacity by leveling endurance or with certain talismans, but if needed you should remove armor pieces / switch out armor for pieces that have less weight so that you have a medium load.
    2. The bloodhound fang ash of war is super good and you should also utilize it more, keep in mind that you can do an follow up attack with the ash of war if you follow it up with a heavy attack (press LT to activate and then follow up with RT)
    3. In the same menu where you can use golden seeds to increase flask charges there is also an option to allocate your HP & FP flasks. Unless you are running a magic build and need more FP, usually it is best to allocate such that you have almost all crimson tear flasks and only 1 or 2 cerulean flasks. Having more heals is always helpful
    4. Two handing your weapon will increase your strength stat by 1.5x (for example, two handing with 14 strength will give you the equivalent of 21 strength). This increase applies to the strength stat only. However, in order to dual wield the bloodhound fang with the dismounter you will need to meet the minimum stat requirements for both weapons. When dual wielding, if you want to use the ash of war of the weapon in your left hand you need to two hand it (hold Y and press left bumper and then you will be able to use it)
    5. In places like the catacombs where once you open the door it is pretty much a straight shot from the site of grace to the boss room, you can save a lot of time and also enter the boss fight with more health if you just run past all of the enemies if possible and go straight into the arena (enemies cannot damage you when going through the mist)
    6. Make sure you are equipping talismans in the menu where you can choose your weapons and armor. The green turtle talisman you got in this video is a really good one to use.
Really enjoying the series so far, keep up the great work!

Didn't you go back to firelink shrine, used the elevator, jumped in the middle, did a jump puzzle in a game without a jump button, climbed up to the crow nest and hid in her nest so you can return to the tutorial to find items that weren't there during the tutorial at all but are incredibly important to help with swamp for one and mandatory to unlock a secret area for the second ?"

Hey man i love watching 1st time soul gamers playing, learning and love/hating the game.
Not to back seat game but a couple of pointers.
    1. 2 handing a weapon always needs the dexterity, faith, arcane or intelligence stat requirement to be met, but 2 handed adds 50% of your strength stat to meet the requirement. For example with your current (at the time of this video) 17 strength means you can 2 hand a weapon with 25 strength requirement since 17 + 8.5 = 25.5
    2. Dual wielding means you are 1 handing a weapon in each hand, so obviously you will need all stat requirements for the weapon.
    3. Some ash of wars have multple attacks, where the require you to press the same ash of war button, or even aftwr uaing the ash of war button try using a strong attack straight after; and some can be charged by holdinf the ash of war button.
4 and final. Weight management; happy to see someone fat role and still succeed, but at most, try to keep your weight in medium weighy for better rolls which means better invincibility frames for dodges, more so for a light weight for light rolls.
Happy to see continue watching the journey of the Elden Ring Warrior

Use your lock-on function. It makes fighting way easier, would have also made your cross-bow shots much more accurate.
Once you pull a lever in a catacomb dungeon, you do not need to pull it again. (Even if you die)
When you open the map you will notice beacons that look almost like lighthouses in the grayed out sections. These beacons indicate where you can find the map for that area… The map is very useful, as it holds clues such as the locations of hidden caves.

A quick tip about NPCs: it's often not obvious how to progress quests. But it will save you time to follow 2 rules:
    1) always exhaust npc dialog
    2) If its not clear what they want or what should happen next, rest at a grace (or quit to menu and reload) and then talk to them again. That will often give different dialog or change something. And if that happens, keep doing it until nothing changes.
NPC quests are a really important part of the game and theyre also super difficult. You'll get tons of specific tips from comments--way more than you want--but following these rules will help you have more organic discoveries which imo feel much better.

Base stat requirements and scaling are super simple to understand. If you don't have the required stats, you'll do very poor damage, as you've seen. If you do meet them, you'll do base amount of damage with that weapon. If continue leveling the required stats, you'll do more and more damage, the amount of which is determined by the scaling grade, meaning A scaling will have a ton of extra damage, and E scaling will have very little.

  • @memeless6933
    @memeless6933 Месяц назад +6

To use any weapon you should first meet the stat requirements and then focus on the scaling of the weapon. Its way better that way
Also if you don't beat a boss on your first try, on your way back to the boss you don't have to kill every enemy. Just run straight for the boss so you don't lose time.
Also from my experience its way more beneficial to take off some armor if you have a heavy load. Having a heavy load makes you do a very slow roll, called " fat roll ". It's more beneficial to lose some armor than to make your roll slower. Especially in early game armor doesn't make much of a difference.
And just so you know the claymore sword you looted is really good as well for a strength build. And two handing weapons gives a great damage boost.
    Great series keep it up

Nice video. love it when people actually try and learn some mechanics in these games so i wanted to give you some small notes that may help you in the future:
-two handing a weapon will ONLY increase your strenght attribute (by 50% to be exact) meaning as long as you have atleast 66% of the strenght requirement youll be good.
-when viewing a weapon in your inventory it will display 2 numbers as damage, the first is the weapons base damage which increases with weapon upgrade level, the second is the additional damage granted by the stats your weapon scales off, there should be a + between those numbers. if there is a - that means that the second number is the amount of damage reduction you get from not meeting minumum requirements (meaning that you always want to meet them since your weapon will not get ANY damage from scaling until these are met)
-when killing a skeleton you may notice that their body will be on the ground with a glow around it, hitting them in this state will kill them for good.
-when you want to interact with things such as levers or ladders you will sometimes be unable to due to a message or bloodstain blocking it, the game will prompt you to use your dpad to switch between interacting with the message on the ground or the thing you actually want to interact with.
-how well a weapon scales of a stat is increased by its upgrade level meaning early game you want to focus more on stats like vigor and endurance and late game you will want more of your respective scaling stat as your weapon level will be higher and benefit more.
-when changing an ash of war you will be prompted to pick an infusion for your weapon such as heavy or keen. in addition to changing what stats your weapon scales with infusions may give you some elemental damage such as fire or lightning. if you intend to make a pure melee build not involving the use of spells the general rule is that up until 40-50 str/dex the fire and lightning infusions are best, afterwards the heavy and keen versions will surpass them due to some funky math stuff
-when holding down L1 while using a bow or crossbow youll get a crosshair :)

The game seems to be easier now because for one you started leveling up your character, and you also started the process of gitting gud :D
Holding one weapon with both hands effectively multiplies your strength times 1.5.
Also, you might want to watch out for your equip load, because you are currently on heavy load due to putting on heavier weapons and armor, which makes your dodge roll be slower and less effective. So either equip lighter things or level up endurance. This far, your leveling has been really good.
Keep it up, already looking forward to your next video :D

The base stats of weapons is pretty good early. So your focus should be to first meet your weapon requirements and then level vigour. Once you have upgraded with four or five somber smithing stones the weapon starts to scale pretty well, at which point you start leveling your stats for damage.

  • @GamersOdyssey
    @GamersOdyssey Месяц назад +6

A weapon without meeting its requirements is useless, it is better to not have a weapon at all, meet the requirements of a weapon you like and then keep increasing your vitality up to 40.
After that rise the stat that your weapon has the highest affinity for, dex for the bloodhound fang for example.
Then after you reach about 40 in Dex (for bloodhound fang) continue to rise your vit up to 60.
When you reach 60 to vit continue with your weapon main stat until you reach 80 and then finish the game.
Also this is extremely important un-equip your second weapon because you are fat rolling.
If you are so fixated on dual wielding then you have to increase your endurance very very much which something i do not recommend you doing since you will get in the future some talismans that will allow you to carry greater weight without wasting too many points to endurance.
For the mean time, not being able to roll normally is a death sentence.

youll want to upgrade your dex, strength, all of those stats pretty much just for weapon requirments 80% of your dps is goin to be from your weapon upgrades, the other 20% is from scaling and all of that stuff. Its really only important for meeting the weapon requirements. so level up that stuff if there is a weapon you wanna use, cuz it dosent effect much else in the long run. but if your ever unsure where to spend a level up, vigor is always the safe choice, youll get to respec eventually too so dont feel too much pressure.

    Go Elden Ring warrior, go!
My tips today, if you’d allow me:
    - You could poke things with consumables throwing items.
    - To manually target a ranged weapon, 2-h it, and hold L-1.
    - A weapon might belong to the same class as another with everything almost identical on the paper, but some hold sneaky little secrets, like the Claymore you acquired from Castle Morne, its heavy lets you use a thrusting move, dealing piercing damage and lengthen its hitbox, letting you hit further than most weapons of its class. You might find something by experimenting.
See you on your next journey in the land between!

ONLY STRENGTH can be augmented by two-handing. No other stat receives that. It's like... 1.5x your current strength is what your cap is when two-handing? I forget.
If you have like 30str, you can use a wep with 45 str requirement while two-handing it. Again this effect ONLY applies for the strength stat. Not any other.

Still, I’ll miss the purity of the first two episodes, and seeing how well the game alone teaches you things when you’ve never played a Souls game before.
Don’t let that take the wind out of your sails, though. You’ve been improving a lot, and the credit for that belongs to you alone.

Leveling hp is great, I usually go for 50 in total but taking a bit of a sidetrack to get some str for a weapon is fine. Also the horse jump areas are also safe areas to land on, you can survive any distance if you land on one while mounted, not being on your mount will still kill ya.

Yes, the first story boss is in Storm Veil Castle. The first NPC you meet, Varre, tells you that if you just listen to him.
You should put your stats in to wield your weapon enough to two-hand the weapon. Then level endurance and vigor a lot by like 10 to 30 each.

About weight in the game: Your load is only determined by EQUIPPED items not by items sitting in your inventory. You still have a 'Heavy Load' right now, I recommend switching around armor pieces you have until you have a 'Medium Load'. It will make your rolls have more invincibility frames.

  • @The_FlyingDutchman
    @The_FlyingDutchman Месяц назад

You can find the tutorial messages back in the inventory, you can also press the "menu?" button (take note of the buttons on the bottom of the inventory and stat screens) to get some, be it minimal, help on what you see. In regards to leveling up stats:
    --
    --
    --
    --
    --
For general character progression; ensure you have sufficient vigor to feel comfortable but you don't need to overdo it 40-50 vigor is late game level. Ensure you have enough endurance to wear the armor you like and at least medium roll (especially for first timers), or use talismans to make up the difference (you'll find them along the way), armor is useful but will not save you if you cannot dodge so lose a piece or change up the weight to go down to medium. Mind is needed for FP, so ensure you have enough to use whatever ashes of war/summons you want to use.
For weapon use; prioritize to the minimum weapon requirement first, upgrading the weapon will yield more damage than levels (one of those souls quirks). But if you do not have the stones to upgrade the weapon, after meeting the requirements focus on the stat with the best scaling. One sidenote, weapons that can change ash of war can also change their scaling based when applying it, but not all weapons can change ash of war (cannot remember if the game tell you this at all it is sometimes stingy with explanations).
