This episode got me thinking about things that I ate as a child that I no longer eat and vice versa and I've realized something: why hasn't Food Theory made an episode about taste and why it changes over time? I can think of countless examples of foods that I hated as a kid which I really enjoy as an adult as well as things that I remember enjoying as a kid that are actually hard for me to enjoy now. I feel like the answer to this is actually multi-faceted in the sense that it's not only that our taste buds mature but also as adults when have the benefit of enjoying similar items prepared in new and different ways. This video also brings up the marketing aspect of it all as I feel like that had a HUGE EFFECT on the things that I wanted as a kid. For example, I feel like I was in love with McDonald's as a kid because of the Happy Meal but as I got older I found that it wasn't filling enough so I would have my mother also buy me an additional double cheeseburger and in the worse situation I would actually get other items from other fast food restaurants to go along with the Happy Meal until I FINALLY weaned myself off of them and realized that what I was doing was hella expensive and inconvenient all for the sake of a silly toy or the cute box. As an adult, I found that I was more attracted to the idea of value or "bang for my buck" so that mantra pushed me in a completely different direction than my childhood counterpart and now as a MUCH OLDER ADULT living through a bit of a recession I've discovered that I've all but cut out fast food from my diet not because I didn't enjoy it but simply because IT'S TOO BLOODY EXPENSIVE and for the amount I would spend in 3 days on meals I can buy groceries and make simple meals that easily last an entire 7 day week.

Once at a sleepover at a summer camp, me and some other kids were told that we didn't have to go to bed as long as we were quiet. So we made a pentagram out of gold fish and started to circle it. The councilor walked in on us and then I assume questioned his entire reality. He asked us what was happening and someone said that we were summoning Finn the goldfish from the goldfish commercials. The councilor then brought almost every other councilor to show them what we were doing. Edit: This is my favorite memory from this camp, and very few people that I went to camp with know about this.
@anthonyortiz350 we all had a lot of energy after about 20 minutes of talking one kid said "we can do anything as long as we're quiet" and so the person who was eating the gold fish said "we should try to summon the talking goldfish from the commercials." So we all get out of our bunks and spend like 5-10 minutes trying to construct the pentagram. After the councilor checked in on us, half of us (including me) were laughing too hard to do any more, but the other half kept on circling the pentagram.
I’ve never laughed harder to an opening of a video. There’s so many out of pocket quotes in this, and mat says it all so seriously. Was not expecting this at all
I need a food theory about the sudden rise of all the “flaming hot” foods. My theory is that it has something to do with Covid making people unable to taste as much.
I'm just waiting for the POPs cereal lore video to drop one day, considering they had an entire website dedicated to the faceless cereal bits, plus the "experience the feeling of being inside a bag/box of pops" thing that happened. That was a wild time
I guess I was better than I thought at avoiding commercials growing up cause I don't remember like any of those commercials lol. The jingles yes, but not the commercials. Also, Finn seems to be able to grow hands/fins at will, being suddenly able to hold a piece of paper and his sunglasses while flying.
I’m just over here trying to figure out how I’ve never seen one of these commercials… ever…. 😅 Or episodes even. Never heard any of the jingles… I’m so confused 😂
Hey theorists, I think you should do a retesting of the fast food fries and drinks as I have noticed that the restaurants have shrunk their sizes as of late. I think there is something there but it's up to you. Thanks for your work all these years!

Please tell us the entire story, like how you got the idea and how everyone reaction was like?
@anthonyortiz350 we all had a lot of energy after about 20 minutes of talking one kid said "we can do anything as long as we're quiet" and so the person who was eating the gold fish said "we should try to summon the talking goldfish from the commercials." So we all get out of our bunks and spend like 5-10 minutes trying to construct the pentagram. After the councilor checked in on us, half of us (including me) were laughing too hard to do any more, but the other half kept on circling the pentagram.

“Gold fish smile ‘cause they don’t a have clue they’ll be eaten” is what’s written on the tv at 9:40 lol
bro do you think we are blind😭
Thought I was the only one😭
I’ve never laughed harder to an opening of a video. There’s so many out of pocket quotes in this, and mat says it all so seriously. Was not expecting this at all
The fact that their smiles are the last remnants of happiness left on their faces before they die is horrifying
9:39 I think I stoped eating my pretzel goldfish for a second
this man can find lore anywhere at anytime and make a 10min video that's surprisingly interesting no matter what.
It's finally completed:ruclips.net/video/2HKMLmc7HFw/видео.html
MatPat never stops surprising me with his extremely believable theories
I love Mat, but I also have to shoutout my girl Athena P for covering the goldfish lore first!
I need a food theory about the sudden rise of all the “flaming hot” foods. My theory is that it has something to do with Covid making people unable to taste as much.
(Suddenly remembers flamin hot mtn dew)
If I had a nickel for every time I’ve seen a goldfish lore video, I’d have two. It’s not a lot but it’s weird it’s happened twice
it happened more then twice it happened four times
What's the first time?
@@wildstarfish3786 maybe degenorocity?

Everyone: Aw crackers with faces!
Matpat: That smile is hiding something…
I'm just waiting for the POPs cereal lore video to drop one day, considering they had an entire website dedicated to the faceless cereal bits, plus the "experience the feeling of being inside a bag/box of pops" thing that happened. That was a wild time
MatPat always finds something sinister from our childhood, it's like his superpower.
MatPat = Lore Master, wielder of the gauntlet of theorist channels
Matpat is the only guy to make a lore video about goldfish and thats why we watch him
He isn’t the only one, just the largest

I guess I was better than I thought at avoiding commercials growing up cause I don't remember like any of those commercials lol. The jingles yes, but not the commercials.
Also, Finn seems to be able to grow hands/fins at will, being suddenly able to hold a piece of paper and his sunglasses while flying.
I’m just over here trying to figure out how I’ve never seen one of these commercials… ever…. 😅 Or episodes even. Never heard any of the jingles… I’m so confused 😂
9:26 ‘the snack that smiles back’ *ba-*
Hey theorists, I think you should do a retesting of the fast food fries and drinks as I have noticed that the restaurants have shrunk their sizes as of late. I think there is something there but it's up to you. Thanks for your work all these years!
3:32 OMGGG the commercials are so wholesome 😭
Now see them in a new light
“The Snack that smiles back” will always haunt my life, everywhere I go… I hear that tune

“Look at that sadistic monster comping down on those poor souls.”
You say about a child eating crackers in a commercial.
You’ve officially lost your mind.
And people thought you lost it when you first said that Gregory was a robot.
8:14 no. If he's a spokesperson then he whispered it to the goldfish so that he doesn't get caught warning them.
Is this supposed to be a Cheder gun? 7:57
When I was really little I used to pretend that the goldfish were cannibals and they would eat each other. never thought there would be a food theory lore video related to it. XD
0:38 This line made me laugh that I can't get that hilarious line out of my head
But matpat at 6:47 when Finn say “they keep me working” isn’t that referring to the sponsorship that they provide
Anyone else notice the fun bit hidden at 8:27? 👀
What
I want so badly for Matthew to collaborate with the Hamburglore podcast precisely for stuff like this.
(Also, fun fact: only 40% of goldfish are actually smiling)
That’s actually quite unsettling😅
