  • 40 years since it opened in Orlando, the complete trip to Mars before Mission: Space was ever thought about.
    See the origins of the attraction with Flight to the Moon, how it operated and changes made, then walk in from Tomorrowland 1975 for the full preshow, shot on tripods from several angles and composited to present Mr. Johnson, mission control and all the overhead screens in one clear image. Next walk into your spacecraft for a full multi camera mission to the red planet. With full source audio.

    I rode this as a kid -- sometime around 1976. I believed absolutely that we'd traveled to outer space :-).

    It's so easy to forget just how much more futuristic Tomorrowland used to look with the white paint

    I never rode the WDW version but the Disneyland version is etched into my brain. Thanks for waking up a few neurons.

    One of my all-time favorite WDW rides, and I rode it a few times every summer. It was a sad day when it was officially shut down and replaced. Thank you for taking me back to a very happy time in life.

    Wonderful. Probably one of my best memories at Epcot back in the 80s. At the age of 6, I really believed I was inside a rocket and went to space.

      Considering that Tomorrowland is becoming retro in WDW kinda, might as well.

    I remember the "Flight to the Moon" ride (show?). Living in the west coast of Florida, we were able to see the Saturn V rocket from our home as it headed into space. Needless to say, I was all about space travel, so this was a cool ride for young me. Looking at the side screen stuff now I have to cringe a bit (they didn't even TRY to simulate the moon's low gravity).
    However, I did very much like their upgrade to "Mission to Mars". I thought the "hyper-space" effect was very cool (admittedly it's VERY 70's) and the whole show was enjoyable. I was very sad when they decided to replace it (though given the lack of attendance, I'm not surprised).
    It would be awesome if you could find the videos for each of the screens at the same time. Admittedly, that's a tall order (who knows if the original animations still exist), but you could do the split screen thing between them.

    Didn't they turn this thing into alien encounter?

  • @edwinvazquez4230
    @edwinvazquez4230 3 года назад

    This attraction, which existed from 1975 to 1993, definitely deserved retirement after it was deemed to be dated before it even opened. I am fine that it was revised, but if it still existed today, it would still be too dated for a Tomorrowland attraction. Disney made the right decision by retiring this attraction.

    Where is the beginning music from in this?

    • @KansasKing99
      @KansasKing99 5 лет назад +1

      The beginning music is called "Neutral Strings #3" and it was composed by Neil Amsterdam. It's from the Capitol Media music library and was used for Disney World's WEDWay Peoplemover from 1976 to early 1993.

      MK1MonsterOck1989 when Alien Encounter was originally being made Lucas wanted to recycle the AA figures from Mission To Mars only he wanted them all to wear surgical masks and gowns

      I See!

    • @TheDarkwingj
      @TheDarkwingj 7 лет назад +1

      MK1MonsterOck1989 Alien Encounter's original story was going to be that XS tech put the Alien on purpose to human guinea pigs instead of being accidentally sent. Then the Alien gets the guests out and as you leave the ride the Alien gets revenge on the AA figures from the preshow

      MK1MonsterOck1989 almost had the xenomorph from Alien that would have ruled but disney didn't think it was "family friendly" but I wished they used the george lucas orignal guinea pig story
