Spaceship Earth 1982 & 86 Martins Complete Ultimate Tribute

  • The first of my totally re edited Futureworld edits. Over ten years ago I first created my "Ultimate Tributes" and now they're showing their age. Each one has been re built from scratch with far better quality, more footage and more angles, more art and construction material, far better higher resolution graphics and much higher quality, brand new audio mixes - with more clean live and source audio than before. Each video clip has been enhanced, cleaned as much as I can, and any screen flicker removed as much as possible.
Start back at the origins of EPCOT Center as the park we know began to emerge and the centrepiece attraction and theme developed. See how the building developed, the storyline progressed, and how the ride fits inside. Following a full construction section and dedication highlights take a trip through the 1982 version via art, models, vintage film clips and recreations and with a new audio mix. After riding take a full tour of Futurecom in Communicore West.
Next fast forward to 1986 to see the changes that were made, then walk into the building for a full multi camera ride of the Cronkite version with new footage and a new clean audio mix. See a brand new recreation of 180top, capturing the style and feeling of the complex show scene and take a descent to a brand new Tomorrows Child mix. On exiting the ride see the complete overhead Earthstation Futureworld film projection and take a look at the Worldkey Information System.
These new tributes have been a real labour of love and in production for over a year. Whilst there's only so much that can be done with recordings of the era I hope you'll agree they are far better than the previous versions and are some of the best available to the fan community.

The music was truly the best part of late 80's early 90's Epcot. I was 5 in 89 when I first rode Spaceship Earth and I will never forget the music

I went to Orlando in 1993 and I was five when I rode Spaceship Earth and it was the Walter Kronkite version, then went back in 1994 when they had changed it to Jeremy Irons version and then back in 2010 when they changed it to the Judi Dench version.

Nothing tops the 1994 Jeremy irons version. In 2007 all the magic and inspiration was taken away. It truly is missing its former glory

Can't thank you enough for all the work you have put into this. THIS is the EPCOT Center everyone should be experiencing today. I've worked in animation, interactive design and themed attraction animatronics and model making. This place had a tremendous impact. Sadly today's Future World has become a thrill park and has little chance of educating and inspiring millennials the way it inspired us 30 years ago.

Thanks for this. The music was the opening theme for when the park would open each morning. I took a lot of the documenting video of the park construction especially The Living Seas and Morocco. It's a tragedy what they've done to this magnificent park. Used to be NO Mickey, no Disney characters at all and totally unique. Now, just another kiddy park.

Thank you Martin. Always a pleasure.
What makes me even more disheartened is knowing EPCOT was never meant to be a theme park via Walt's imagination but an urban cityscape community. (hence the COT, city of tomorrow).

Dear Martin I'd like to say I've watched your videos for years especially about 1980s Epcot I was born when nearly all the 1982 attractions were replaced. Your videos have inspired me and I'm happy to say I've been working on a manga series called EPCOT the plot is about a teenage girl who works at Epcot in 1984 one day while on a break a teenage boy on what looks like a flying futuristic snowboard looking device crashes into her not knowing the portal device he used to go back in time fell on the ground causing it to open being startled she runs to go tell another cast member but she trips and falls through the portal and starts falling thousands of feet to the ground the boy saves her and they now are in the boys time period in the year 2034 in a futuristic utopia called Epcot City ive been working on this since the pandemic

I absolutely friggin adore how you time things to the background music.
I've been obsessed with this park and it's history since I first saw Spaceship Earth on one of those America's Funniest Home Videos special vacation episodes back in around 2006, so I was either 6 or 7 at the time. I've only ever been once, my summer vacation of 2018. I had just graduated from high school, so my parents let me pick where we went. I chose Florida specifically for EPCOT, and I intentionally scheduled it for the second to last day. I remember waiting in line under the sphere in the Florida humidity, so excited to go on such a historic ride. When we got to the top though, I was really creeped out. I had no idea about the scrapped moon landing sequence, and thinking I knew everything only to be greeted with the wooden cutouts that were once moon rocks, now painted black, was terrifying and unnerving to say the least. But for me, that only added to the experience.
It was the first and only time I've ever stayed at a theme park to closing, and IllumiNations was gorgeous. It started to sprinkle as we left, and seeing my beloved park just wet enough to cast beautiful reflections from the neon lights of the empty remains of the Communicore/Innoventions buildings, was enough to make me cry. And yeah I did cry, smiling as I quietly sang along with Promise on the way out. It's cheesy but bitch it was beautiful. The last of my childhood, now forever engraved on my mind.

Awesome work Martin. I first went to Epcot in 1985 and was awestruck at SSE. Ok, i enjoyed the boxes of lemonheads you could get in the gift shop probably more than the ride, but my fascination has only grown over time. This is a great tribute and fantastic to watch.

  • @PanickedTato
    @PanickedTato 6 лет назад +11

This was the first time I've heard the original audio from SSE since I visited in 1983. I'd never found/seen a recording of it in such great quality! I had forgotten just how dry the original narration was... it was almost unnerving as well. I don't remember feeling that way as I rode it for the first time, rather I remember being in awe of it all, but wow it was very odd to hear it today. As always, another amazing video!

Thanks again for these videos. I'd forgotten how dry the original spiel was. I was very happy when they had Walter Cronkite doing the voiceover and added the song (which, once again, I can not get out of my head :-) ). I did miss the mist they had at the beginning, but I understand that it wasn't really needed. I actually do like the updates they've made to this ride (one of the few rides whose updates I approve of).
One thing: if memory serves, they had to drop the steam engine in while it was under construction because they couldn't get it in otherwise. I don't know how true that is; I just remember hearing or reading that somewhere official-ish.

Thanks Martin. I'm sure that someone must have recorded the 1982-86 version of Spaceship Earth on video camera in its entirety but it just seems to be difficult to find anyone who has the footage. There's plenty of other footage on RUclips of EPCOT Center in 1983 and 1984 but maybe the cameras in those days didn't work properly in the dark conditions of the ride. For example I was recently watching some excellent footage of the EPCOT monorail system which had been recorded in 1984.

EPCOT was always a very strange park. There's a reason World's Fairs are not permanent. It was a late 1970's vision of the future. It was obsolete by the end of the 1980's. I loved it when it first opened. I was inspired and awed. A decade later not so much.

I respectfully disagree. Too much audio narration can be heard on many other uploaders videos. It's worse. Inevitably most are filled with rhetoric that is mind numbing to say the least. I'd rather hear only the audio of said theme rather than someone's opinions or superficial interpretations any day.
