thanks for the video. i wanted to share one aspect which i disagree about (in bad english): the curve does not spread out the area of the drum head that is picked up; it does not refer to the surface of the drum head. however, it shows how (real life) strokes of different power respond to the different MIDI velocities (1-127) . the pad can react in a linear, exponential, logarithmic way etc. some curves give you more space in the middle range of the MIDI velocities, some will make every hit sound the same (no dynamics). some curves will require really hard hitting in order to achieve a loud MIDI velocity. Depending on which curve you chose, this can have the effect you described in the video. cheers
You can also do this with the dials on all of the pads, 12 o’clock brings the spot pretty even in the centre, clockwise spreads it out and counterclockwise thins it out. Great bid as usual….
Immensely helpful. I have a PD-120 for my snare. Been using "Linear" forever and never knew the brilliance of LOG1. Hot spots a lot less. LOVE this. Thank you! Time for a generic snare drum shell and a Roland RT dual-trigger instead.... a lot of people say that's the way to go, to avoid the hotspots. What say you? Thanks again! Subbed!
What causes a hotspot to form when everything started out normal? Could it possibly have been me by mistake dialing it into happen cuz I'm very new at all of this and I don't have any major explanations in owners manual for my module
I would like to add more crash cymbals to my Alesis strike pro kit. The Roland ones seems a bit pricey. Do you know, if Yamaha PCY135 will work with my module?
What about the cymbals though? I was building my user kit on the SE and couldn't figure out how to adjust them to pick up lighter hits. Seems like i have to hit them hard and in certain spots to register
Hey siren. Your videos on the strike pro are always helpful. I re wrapped mike as well but with a black chrome vinyl. I noticed that now my 2nd Tom will not trigger now. Any thoughts? Have you had any trouble with anything not triggering?
Samuel Berglin is the second tom the one you rewrapped? I'm confused but either way if it's not triggering at all maybe sure first the cables in all the way. Maybe turn it a little make sure there's not dust or something there. If not you should take it off the rack and open it up on a flat surface. Hopefully there's no damage but you'll be able to see once you take the head off. If it's damaged I would google Alesis Customer Service number and they should give you a replacement. Let me know what you find out.
Oh sorry I just realized the typo in my comment What I meant to say was I rewrapped the shells on my Alesis Kit with a black chrome vinyl. After putting it all back together I noticed that’s when I’m having a problem with my second Tom rim not triggering anymore. I Tried to send a photo in a reply to the email notification I got
On my td25 I have a ear splitting hot spot on the snare drum, I will trying this adjustment. Please can you tell me how you compare the Alesis cymbals to a td25 or td30, thanks
Dennis Rivenburg yes this should help with that. Just remember to lower the sensitivity as well so it stays dynamic. The Alesis cymbals are pretty nice man. Very happy with them. Especially the size of them are actually about a half inch larger than the advertised size where the Roland cymbals are about a quarter inch smaller than advertised. The feel is very similar and noise level as well.
Andrew Miller i got mine from b&h. I just googled Roland PowerPly and found it. Don't worry if the picture is wrong. As long as it says "mh-" in the model number, that's the PowerPlys.
SiREN2173 how are you liking the roland mesh compared to the alesis mesh? I'm looking at converting my acoustic kit and using my ddrum redshots with them.
Andrew Miller yes they are the best heads you can buy and can last a decade. The stock heads were surprisingly pretty nice though. I changed purely out of preference of color and because I already had half of the right size from my last kit so it wasn't that expensive to just buy the rest. Honestly if the Alesis ones were white I would have just left them but again the Roland PowerPlys are an improvement even if it's not a huge improvement it is there no doubt.
Frustrating video since I did not succeed to fix my hot spot like you succeed... I am a bit jealous ! I did some tries on my TD12Kv module (PD105 Pad) in order to fix this f*cking hot spot just yesterday before seing your video. I did try all kind of response curve... but I don't fix the hotspot... Only attenuated if I increase the sensiblility (but lost all the dynamics range of the strikes)... So I am wondering if what you demonstrate is available with my TD12 module ? You are using an Alesis module. Is that fix only available for Alesis module ? Thanks for your anwer.
Hey. Sorry you're having difficulty. This is not only for Alesis modules. When you increase the curve remember to decrease sensitivity to gain back some of the dynamics. Raising the Curve will make the module interpret a softer hit as louder one but farther from directly over the trigger. That's the goal but to get back the softer hits sounding soft you have to decrease the sensitivity until the buzz rolls/ghost notes play like normal again. Even in this video I ended up lowering sensitivity a few more to make it perfect. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
@@AtTheSourceStudios thank you very much for this quick feed back. I will try to decrease sensibility since I am affraid I did not try this way. But something escapes me in your explanation : What do you mean by "increase the curve" ?? Do you mean starting from linear, up to, log1, log2, exp1, exp2, spline ?! What I've undertood watching your video is that the LOG1 curves (+decrease sens) IS THE solution to fix the hot spot issue. Am I wrong ?? (My english is not as good as yours ;-)... I'am better in French !). ... one night after... So I did try with both log1 and log2... it's a bit better (with log2) but mostly due to the decrease of sensibility... The hot spot still there. But there is a big difference between your module pad's sensibility on alesis and mine on roland : Mine is set to 6 (factory settings). It can go up to 32. So I have no large range to decrease it without loosing a lot of ... sensibility and absolute volume !! If a decrease the sensibility I must increase to PAD's volume... and decrease all others PADs and cymbals since the snare if too "light" (unless I strike the hot spot !)...So... I am affraid that the absolute solution is not having PAD with a central piezzo, or a physical solution to smooth the impact of the strike when done right above the sensor... So... I am still frustrated ! Anyway thanks for your feed back and videos !

I also seen your video on the helensson itm2 triggers do you have a preference setting for those I also have the UFO bass drum trigger after watching your videos I got all the stuff
SiREN2173 have you ran it through a DAW to see what you're softest notes are on the new setting compared to the old setting? (0-127) Just curious because I've tried this and you definitely lose a heap of the low velocity samples, they just get replaced with medium velocity samples at a lower volume which kinda works but it really isn't the same....
