Potential chokes for future parts: 2015 Texas Rangers, blowing a 2-0 series lead by losing games 3 and 4 at home, then in game 5, the 7th inning happened...
Another underrated one is the 2015 NY Mets in the World Series, blowing 9th inning leads in games 1 and 5, and Daniel Murphy committing an error in game 4 which led to a big 8th inning for the royals
Man, 2015 was full of collapses lol

@@iTalkStudios The 2015 Mets had a glaring weakness for the season that was simply magnified in the WS. They were a poor defensive team that relied a lot on the home run ball. The Royals game was putting pressure on the defense, playing small ball and grinding out at bats which obviously didnt go well for the Mets. The Mets hit a 2 run shot, while the Royals hit back to back singles, swipe a base, and make the poor defense make bad throws, passed ball, etc

    • @alwillk

@moonshadow not entirely true. The Mets were an average fielding team, however they did make a lot of fielding mistakes in the World Series.

@@alwillk Lucas Duda was an extremely poor defensive 1st baseman, as was Daniel Murphy on 2nd base. The Royals exploited their infield defense like an open wound and ran wild on the bases. One thing I forgot to mention was that the Mets starting pitchers were primarily strikeout pitchers, and the Royals were a very tough team to strike out because of their approach at the plate. That said, instead of striking out they would put the ball in play and force the shoddy infield defense to make plays.

These are nice if you are meaning choke jobs in a game or two. But the absolute biggest choke job, with a bullet, in baseball is the Yankees in the 2004 ALCS. They had the Red Sox beat! They were up 3-0, leading in the 9th inning of game 4, with Rivera on the mound. Then the clock struck midnight and the rest is history. They had the lead in game 5 too and still couldn't close it out.

yeah i remember because I'm a cardinals fan and i was hoping the cards would play the reds. not because i was scared of the giants but to play a divisional opponent that the cards had a history with. a few years back when the all star game was in Cincinnati, molina was starting catcher and when he was introduced the whole crowd boo'd him. i thought that was awesome. because you have all the different players, some from the American league who almost never come to cincy and have no idea about the cincy/st louis rivalry.

    • @frederickglass1583

The most Cincinnati Reds thing to happen to the best Reds team in the last 30+ years lmao. Win the Central, go up 2-0, then just absolutely shit their fucking pants the next 3 consecutive games. Even watching that year knowing my Cards missed out, I was HOWLING when Game 5 ended and Cincinnati just stood there on the field, absolutely dumbfounded as to how they let a 2-0 LDS lead collapse. Then, from there on out, Cincinnati ownership has blown up the entire team seemingly every damn year since then.
Skip to preseason 2022, and Reds ownership has more or less admitted "I don't give a fuck about winning titles anymore, I just want your money, now GIVE IT TO ME YOU PISSANTS!"

Everyone brings up 2020, but the most painful Braves choke was the 1996 World Series against the Yankees. The Braves finally won it all in '95 and started the '96 Series by dominating the first two games in New York, and despite a close Game 3 loss had a 6-0 lead in Game 4 to possibly be up 3-1. The bullpen blew a massive lead and then lost the game in extras. It took all momentum and life out of the Braves, and the Yankees wrapped it up at home in Game 6. That series is truly the difference between the 90s Braves being remembered as a true dynasty, and people reflecting on so many missed chances to do more in the postseason beyond '95.

I would say these aren’t as much choke jobs as they are just losing a game. I would argue that losing one game isn’t nearly as much of a choke job as having a 3-0 or a 3-1 series lead and losing the series. That’s a real choke job.
To be fair I blame Ron Washington for that “choke job” the most. He should have put in a defensive upgrade in right but left Cruz in out of sheer hubris.

The 1993 and 1996 Braves both were favored to win it all and choked horribly. That 1991-1996 window for Atlanta should have resulted in a minimum of three World Series titles but only resulted in one. The Yankees still probably would have become a dynasty in the late '90s but the Braves should have had their own dynasty before New York's.

    • @chesberger4474
      @chesberger4474 Год назад

1996 was a choke in game 4 of the WS for sure. 1993 however was a little different. The braves spent so much to catch the giants to finally win the division. When they played the phils, they were spent emotionally. The phils were also built to beat a team like the braves via hitting singles and doubles rather than homers. I agree that the braves were the best team in 1993, but I believe the journey just wore them down.

The thing I've learned for the Mets is it's never over until it's over. Usually for us it's the negative side where the Mets could choke at any second but this year it's been quite the opposite. We score 7 runs in the 9th against the phils and then down 4 runs in the first inning (also against the phils) they battle back to tie it and then when the phillies take the lead again they battle back to tie it again and battle again to take the lead for the first time in the game and win it. You just never know what may or may not happen until the 27th out is recorded.
EDIT: Man I feel bad for rangers fans with Nelson Cruz missing that catch. If only he realized the game wasn't over and then their fans would have a world series win.

Going a bit further back you could add the painful 1996 World Series where the Braves dominated the first two games only to lose the next 4 and kickstart the Yankees late 90s dynasty.

Part 2: '04 Yankees, '96 Braves for starters. Before dropping the final 4 games of the WS that year, they had outscored the Cardinals (NLCS) and the Yankees (in games 1 and 2) by a combined score of 48-2. How does that even happen? They won 5 straight before inexplicably just folding like a cheap lawn chair. And they were COMING HOME! As in, they had taken the first 2 games AT Yankee stadium. As a Braves fan, I will never understand that for as long as I live.

Choke jobs in DC is a common thing.
Granted, the Caps and Nats won a championship, but otherwise have either made the playoffs, first round exit or simply not qualify for the postseason.
I am a Caps fan but not the Nats.
    My team is the Orioles.
If they don't win the World Series this year, then their drought is at 40.

The Indians in the '97 World Series to the Marlins
The Astros in the '80 NLCS to the Phillies, '81 NLDS to the Dodgers and '86 NLCS to the Mets
The Angels loss in the '86 ALCS to the Red Sox
Every Twins post-season series loss to the Yankees
The Yankees loss to the Red Sox in the '04 ALCS
    The Blue Jays in '87
The Cubs in '69 and their loss to the Marlins in the '03 NLCS
    The Reds in '99
    The Rockies in 2010
The Dodgers in '51 to the Giants
The Mets in 2007 and 2008
    The Phillies in '64
The Pirates in the '92 NLCS to the Braves
The Cardinals in the '85 World Series to the Royals

2001 Oakland A's-Won the first 2 games at Yankee stadium in a best of five series. Game 3 in Oakland trailing 1-0 in the late innings, tying run gets cut down at the plate on a fluke play by Derek Jeter. A's lose game three and the series.

All of these have occurred since 2011. Professional baseball has been played in America since 1871. You should dive deeper into history before compiling a video like this, so it includes things from across all of baseball's history. There have been numerous teams that choked huge leads in pennant races, like the 1951 Dodgers or the 1964 Phillies. There've been teams that blew 3-1 leads in World Series, like the 1925 Senators, 1958 Braves, 1968 Cardinals, 1979 Orioles, etc. As well as teams that blew 3-1 leads in the LCS. Even a 3-0 lead, as many have commented here. Your video is the greatest baseball chokes since ~2010.

When millennials makes lists. These were pretty bad chokes but aren't even close to being the all time worst. IMO those are:
2004 ALCS-You simply cannot allow a blown 3-0 series lead to not be the all time choke job especially considering they had a 1 run lead in the bottom of the 9th of game 4 when the best closer in baseball history on the mound.
1986 ALCS-Angels up 3 games to 1 and up 5-4 in the 9th inning and 2 strikes on Dave Henderson who jacks a 2 run homer to give the Sox the lead. The Angels tie but lose in 11 and the Sox win the next 2 games to win the series. Then they pull off one of the biggest choke jobs.
1986 World Series-Sox up 3 games to 2 and up 5-3 in the 10th inning of game 6 with 2 outs. 3 straight singles and a wild pitch later and the game was tied then the Bill Bucknor thing and that was all she wrote. Mets won game 7 to complete the choke.
1985 ALCS-Blue Jays up 3 games to 1 only to see the Royals win the next 3 games to take the series and eventually win the World Series(in controversial fashion).
2003 NLCS-Cubs take a 3 games to 1 lead. They get shutout in game 5 then comes game 6 at home. Cubs are up 3-0 when Bernie Mac sings Take Me Out To The Ballgame during the stretch and says the line, "Let's root, root, root for the CHAMPS...". That was the kiss of death. 1 out in the 8 with a runner on 2nd then Luis Castillo hits a foul pop up near the left field stands. Moises Alou jumps to try to catch it, then Steve Bartman happens. Now, Bartman isn't at fault on what happens next. Castillo walks then Pudge Rodriguez singles home a run, 3-1 with runners on 1st and 2nd. No problem, right? Miguel Cabrera hits a tailor made double play ball to usually sure handed Alex Gonzales who boots it. From there the floodgates open and the Marlins score 7 more runs to take an 8-3 lead and win the game. Then the Cubs, with Kerry Wood pitching AND who hits a homerun blow a 5-3 lead to blow the game and the series.
That's 5 bigger chokes than the ones mentioned here.

I blame the Rangers choke job on me. A few days before I was a bit drunk and my neighbor took me to the store to buy a case of beer. Or what I thought was a case of beer. Turns out I bought a case of 40 ounce Bud Weiser. Anyway, I am watching the game and went and grabbed 2 40's to spray in the front yard after the Rangers won. This was just before Freese came to the plate. It all went to hell right after that.
