What do you think of Terrance Gore?
He's valuable. But still he's played ten years in professional baseball and hit ONE homerun in a triple a game
I was actually hoping for him to have a “Dave Roberts” moment in this World Series. Atlanta down to their last out in game 5 at home in a tied game, Gore comes on to pinch run and he scores the winning run from first on a bloop single. Too bad there was never a moment the Braves needed a speedy runner in this series. Anyway, I think he is a much more interesting player that all these big swingers that either strike out or hit a homerun.

You should check out the 1970s Oakland Athletics attempts at a "designated runner". They carried several players just for pinch running duty.
Don Hopkins, Matt Alexander, Larry Lintz, Herb Washington and Allan Lewis.
Terrence Gore is basically the exact same player as Billy Hamilton. He's only used for his baserunning ability. The only real difference is Gore was lucky enough to be on the Royals, Dodgers and Braves teams when they all happened to win the World Series. He personally didn't do much to help them win it. All of those teams would have won the World Series if they never had Gore. I have nothing against the guy and he is a great base stealer. The fact that he has 3 rings is purely luck though. Maybe he's a good luck charm.

He actually has more hits than WS rings he has 15 hits in his career and 3 Rings.
He has only actually played in one World Series game and scored the winning run in that game but the Royals lost that Series in 7 to the Giants.

So true, more rings than hits? Exactly it's baseball, where else would it be when you're talking WS. It's called "riding the pine", but remember the story of Dick Vermeil in his second year with the Phil. Eagles having an open tryouts and a guy named Vince Papale shows up? It was back in '77.

My favorite part is that he signed a minor contract with the New York Mets on June 6, 2022. They are currently in first place in the NL East and destined for a post season run. So he may end up with yet another World Series ring!

I live only a few minutes from Terrance, I get to throw BP to him sometimes when he was at my old high school with us and got to train with him when I was younger. One of the hardest workers I’ve ever seen and he’s an awesome person as well! ❤️

I always thought it sucked that he never gets consistent PT but it makes sense like why start you and you go 0-4 when I can just put you on 1st base in the 8th inning but still I always hoped he would like at least turn into a Jarod Dyson a guy who could at least hit and field ENOUGH to warrant a job with his crazy speed
BaccyardBaseball: The trouble with giving him regular playing time is that when you do need him, he is unavailable. Even if was a so-so batter hitting 250, he would still be more valuable to the team in those late inning situations where you need him as a base stealing threat. Baseball is a funny game in that you can only sub in once in the game. It's not like other sports where players are in and out of the game depending on the situation.
Damn, I never knew this guy existed but I'm glad I do now.

Gore is a player I’ll always remember as a Royals fan. I feel like he was such a prime example of everything those mid 2010s Royals teams were all about: finding success where no one was looking
Loved watching Gore's big moment with the Cubs live. I was so excited for the guy. When he came up to bat later, I thought "Red light has to be on until he reaches two strikes" and when the count when full I kept thinking "Red light, don't let him swing!" and sure enough, the pitch was outside the zone, but Gore chased it and whiffed. I don't blame him, I blame the manager. If he gets on base there with his speed, things might have ended differently.
I chuckled when he got another ring this year. Good for him! He's really easy to root for.

As has been already said, built for post season ball. He has also taken advantage of every opportunity given to him so good for him. Some guys would be too egotistical to do something that seems so minor, but he has done it well with nothing but appreciation for where he is and hard work. Awesome guy. Met him in KC at the parade and he's a super nice and down to earth guy that you could tell was beside himself to have been part of the organization for that.
I saw him on the Braves(I’m a fan) and I literally don’t remember seeing him play once lol so this video is fitting lol
He never looks unhappy. He never complains. He is the farthest things from a prima donna. He is there to be the key runner on base to win a championships game. He is very happy to be at the right place at the right time. More power to him. If he played in the offseason in an instructional league so he could learn to be a defensive replacement, or become a little bit better of a hitter, especially to the opposite field, or a bunter, he could open up more opportunistic backup opportunities for himself.
He's not the only base stealing specialist with a ring. Herb Washington was a designated runner for the A's when they won the WS in 1974. It was a bigger deal then because Charlie Finley was the owner and he always hyped his players in the press. Washington played one more year with the A's before returning to track full-time. His career stat line: 105 Games Played, 0 Plate appearances, 31 Stolen Bases. He didn't make much of a dent in the post-season though, getting tossed out twice with 0 steals. But here's to players like Terrance Gore, Herb Washington, and Bruce Kimm (Mark "The Bird" Fidrych's personal catcher) for making the most of their limited time in the show.

As a Red Sox fan, one player comes to mind here, and that’s Dave Roberts.
I was always the fastest baserunner on my team, and people would repeated get mad when I would steal because they thought I was risking them the game. When, in fact the speed was the only reason we scored at times.
Herb Washington who played 105 games for the A's, never had a hit in the Majors. He also has a World Series ring.
If you look at his baseball card, his position actually read “Pinch Runner”!
I was the Cardinals AA photographer. We played the NW Arkansas Naturals all the time. Gore was fun to watch. When he hit the ball it sounded like a wet newspaper. He he got on base and stole a lot of bases. One time he bunted for a hit and the umpire called him out. The manager got thrown out of the game arguing the call. I called Terrance over to show him my photo which clearly showed him safe. He said “man I knew I was safe” then he said he would let the manager know. I said “oh please don’t do that. He’ll come out at home plate the next day and tell them they missed the call because the Cardinals photographer showed him he was safe. He laughed and said “yeah you got a point”. Great guy and so fun to watch.

I watched Terrance Gore play minor league baseball for the Lexington Legends in 2013. He was the only member of that roster I believed to be major league material. He lead the league in stolen bases and was a very good outfielder. In 2015, I was watching him play for the Royals in World Series, primarily as a pinchrunner. I was wondering about his career a month ago and noticed was still bouncing up and down from minors to majors. I did not realize he was on the Braves roster, since he never played.

I'm a little late here but Herb Washington may have had a weirder career that Terrance Gore. In 1974, Washington was tapped by Oakland A's owner Charlie Finley to become the team's "designated runner".
Over two seasons he appeared in 105 games and scored 39 runs with 33 stolen bases.
He also had 0 at-bats. As in *zero* .
He also had 0 appearances in the field. Again, as in *zero* .
One World Series ring in 1974.
His 1975 Topps baseball card literally listed his position as "Pinch Run.".

The only way this makes sense is if the team used him exclusively in the 8-9th inning, in over half their games, and never once batted around the order to get back to him at the plate. And if they did they may as well use a pinch hitter since it’s the final inning most of the time

This is one reason why I HATE HATE HATE the "situational left" / "situational righty". When the teams started adding these one-batter specialists, that was the end of carrying a roster spot for someone who could serve as a pinch runner. Teams started carrying 12, 13 or even 14 pitchers, often with two lefty specialists and one righty specialist. That was the end of pinch running and pretty much the end of defensive replacements too.
Now they instituted the three batter minimum rule, which pretty much ended the "situational pitcher" because they usually get destroyed by having to stay in for an opposite batter. But we're still in the imbalanced era because starting pitchers are going only 5-6 innings, and many times there's an "opening" who goes only 1-3 innings. So we're still stuck with pitching staffs that account for half the total roster. That destroys all strategy; there's just no room for pinch hitters, pinch runners and defensive replacements.

Terrance Gore is undervalued. his OBS is actually pretty good at .325 which is the same as Ozzie Albies. Just because your batting average is below normal does not mean you are not valuable and between his speed and OBS I am surprised nobody has taken him in the majors. I thought money ball disproved old school scouting and just focused on runs scored.
@@35mm21 I think it's because he's mostly been a September call up when the rosters expanded. With the bigger rosters he wasn't taking up a valuable roster spot to just pinch run. He's played 56 games in September/October, which is more than half of his regular season appreances.

Neat video but me and my brothers discussed something similar to this back in the 1970's. There were a few guys on the Pittsburgh Steelers that didn't play much at all but still ended up with 3 or 4 Super Bowl rings. One of the guys was Terry Henretty, the back up QB. I think he had 3 SB rings.
Cliff Stoudt had two Super Bowl rings before he took his first NFL snap.
I had to go look up his stats after this video. Really, the only player I could think of that was played exactly like Terrance Gore was, was Herb Washington almost 50 years ago.

I have a guy in my mlb the show franchise like this. He’s a 60 overall but has 95+ speed and stealing so I have him in single a all year then call him up for the playoffs. Dudes got like 3 rings in 5 years without a single at bat

Interesting Herb Washington who never bat or played field, played less than 2 years, but has been in more games than Gore.
Teams headed to the playoffs late in the season are going to be compelled to pick him regardless of his fit or his playing stats...given the 3 ring stat. It will be interesting to follow this moving forward.
Yeah, in the playoffs with less starting pitchers needed and more days off, you can carry more position guys, leaving room for specialist.
