Love y'all thank you for watching
the angels and sox call, wasnt a bad call, the catcher was wrong... if the ball every goes anywhere toward the ground you throw to first, heck i remember that season they talked to aj during the game for a comcast game, and they asked him about tagging a batter on low pitchers....thats why you dont have backups in major playoff games
I followed
There was a game where former Braves catcher Johnny Estrada stood up and turned around and yelled "F*** YOU!!" at Eddings in the middle of an at bat. It was so loud you could hear it loud and clear on TV and Estrada got ejected. Estrada was the calmest, most mild-mannered, nicest guy on the team too so that was very unusual for him. I had an opportunity to ask Estrada about that incident a few months ago. He said while he was trying to catch Eddings was constantly talking trash to him and dropping F-bombs just insulting him while he was just trying to do his job. Eddings has been a Grade-A A-hole for decades at this point. Just like Pierzinski, Estrada retired years ago. As far as I know there are no players in baseball who actually like Eddings personality. They can't stand him... And that's on top of all the terrible calls he makes.
@@matthew01234 Wow that's wild. Thanks for sharing!
Look at me. I'm the new snowflake umpire now.
Additionally, Laz Diaz has to be one of the worst, both with his bad attitude and terrible umpiring behind the plate. Throw in C.B. Bucknor as well who is a close second to Diaz. If you know an umps name that typically isn't a good thing.
Yeah those 2 are insanely bad as well
I mostly agree with you about knowing an umpire's name, but I think Hoberg is breaking that trend
*Lazy diaz
* Constantly Bad Bucknor
I think laz diaz, cb bucknor, and dan iasogna are all worse than eddings. I saw a game recently where a guy in the crowd worked cb all night loosening cbs strike zone against a visiting team. Pitches that were balls the guy would say something like "that looked good cb" eventually cb started calling those balls strikes at which point the fan began calling balls farther out of the zone "that looked good cb" causing more bad strike calls.
Said it before and will say it again. The umpire union is 100% responsible for allowing this clown show to continue. Fix the CBA and hold terrible umps accountable.
When someone shows me a game where bad officiating completely changed the course of a season like the NBA or NFL officiating has done for decades, then I will agree
But right now it's been people complaining about a bad call one guy makes after making 100 right calls that no one actually notices
The factors in place of having to stand for 2+ hours watching 90+ mph balls being thrown over a small 12 in white designator isn't going to bring perfect results, but when those perfect results are necessary, unlike in the NBA or NFL and the playoffs, the results are typically correct
@@troylee4196 Like the '85 World Series?
@@troylee4196 when you have some umpires calling a disproportionate number of bad calls week in week out that should be all the proof anyone needs. Also in a sport where players are held to a high standard for behaviour the umps should be held to the same standard.
@@troylee4196 Laz Diaz burner account.
Baseball has been stale for me since the '04 Sox.. umpire drama is all I have 😂
Need a vid about the most egotistical ump I’ve ever seen in my life. Hunter wendelstedt is just as horrible. The Sizemore and benintendi ejections are absolute bullshit, if you give him a piece of your mind you’re gone. If you retaliate afterwards? He will proceed to get up in your face and curse at you until you walk off just like a calm and collective professional umpire should, but wait there’s more! Then he will proceed and do whatever the fuck he feels like just cause he can and calls your batter out on a pitch no where near the zone and THEN throw him out after he gives some feedback after as well. This isn’t even the first time, he threw Aaron Boone out earlier in the season cause he thought he was chirping at him when it was a fan in the stand and then stood adamant that it was either Boone or someone in the Yankees dugout and “Boone’s responsible for everyone in his dugout” guy needs to be humbled fast.
CB, Angel, Edings, Diaz man why didn't they make a crew of these 4 the umpiring would suck but hey it would be a hell of a show.
(I'm an umpire btw not in the MLB but it even frustrates us.)
The less I know an umpire's name the better
Unless it's Pat Hoberg, who called a perfect game (i.e., no missed ball/strike calls) in the 2022 World Series
I know he isn't perfect but everytime I see Alex Tosi is behind the plate for my favorite team, I am absolutely relieved. I know a good game will be called. As a diehard fan I have learned the names of those that are exceptional. They are so few and far between it's easier to remember their names. And you realize the rest will be an adventure.
Hunter Wendlestadt looking at a face on a billboard. You yelled at me you're gone
Agreed. Wendelstedt gets my vote.

@@iTalkStudios you can't tell that you're the butt of the joke how sad
@@DaVinci_Diesel To laugh at oneself is healthy
I remember going to a Red Sox game once and Brock Holt got into a spat with Doug Eddings. Holt was one of the coolest guys in that clubhouse so you know Eddings could be a pain if it got him fired up.
I always thought that C.B. Bucknor would be next in line for worst umpire, but I'm not surprised it was Doug.
What bugs players is an inconsistent strike zone. If an umpire is calling those outside of the zone strikes some of the time and balls the rest, then neither pitchers or hitters know how to adjust. The chippiness builds until someone loses it and gets ejected. Sometimes the players don't even have to get mad. They just calmly say something about the call that rubs an umpire the wrong way and suddenly they are gone.
yeah if you realize after the first inning that the strike zone is just fat as hell today you go up and swing at anything close and get on with it. What sucks is inconsistency.
It would have been perfect if the Pirates manager yelled out that the strike zone was son atrocious that its reasonable to assume an outside pitch in a strike.
As an Angels fan, I can agree this is the worst umpire
And how often do batters head towards first base thinking it's ball four and nothing is said😂
I think what you meant to say about the Dodgers, was they have Shohei, Freeman, and Mookie, but they’re still not making the NLCS because of Dave Roberts
Plot twist it's Angel Hernandez clone with him cloning himself
Lmaoo
Referring to someone as "Outshining" Angel Hernandez is like trying to outshine a turd by personally shining a turd. Yay, it's shiny. Boo, it's still a a turd.
Diaz is the new worst umpire.
CB Bucknor is pretty bad too, and if Ron Kulpa is still around that dude is fucking ass but I do agree with this video. Doug Eddings is terrible.
I think CB is worse
@@arnaldolopez6471 I did too, until I watched Diaz in the past two Cubs vs Pirates games.
Agreed. Laz seems to be actively trying to take Angel's vacant throne
He already made a video about him.
🎶 Meet the new worst ump, same as the old worst ump 🎶
Imagine a cold dish of revenge of Skenes:
Line it up with the catcher that on the 4th pitch of the next game that Eddings is behind the plate for, Skenes throws a high fast ball that the catcher just straight up LETS GO past... Bam, right in the kisser haha.
As a Padres fan, when I heard you say “Doug Eddings” I immediately thought back to that game in Miami… pretty sure most of those missed calls all happened in the last 3-4 innings as well, was the most egregious example of an ump making spiteful calls that I’ve ever seen in my life!
Bring in the robo-umps.
I went to a AAA game last night in Norfolk.
The reviews of pitches is so clean and easy.
None of this BS the majors show.
I love Tide Park. Great venue for our Tides, easy parking too.
Just when you think in couldn't get any worse as far as worst MLB umpire someone else comes along to prove you wrong.
The fact that the catcher was like where are you going? Tells the story.
If the u.p calls everytbing a strike then you can't score...just quit the game. Set an example. If you aren't allowed to win don't play
Yeah and he always gets LCS and WS assignments, it’s ridiculous.
Great video!
Calling pitches could easily be done with a computer.
I remember when Umpires and Referees knew their roles and performed accordingly.....BUTT.....that truly has changed over the years as they realized that by being a "part" of a play or moment in the game, they will forever be seen on a continuous loop visually and be talked about in never ending conversations. They get a taste of "Fame" and it's addicting to some!
Diaz, Eddings, Cuzzi, Bucknor, Wendelstadt, Hudson, Estabrook, all guys with a ton of experience and all terrible...I vividly remember a game when Eddings was a young umpire for a Met game, Bobby Valentine came out to argue an obvious blown call by Eddings and tv mikes picked up Eddings saying "I seen what I saw"😂
Criminal. I just cannot comprehend how a guy so bad at his job for so long doesn’t either try to get better or find a new line of work. It’s like the umps don’t care. Games swing on some of these bad calls yet the Umpires union doesn’t seem to care.
Thank the union.
Hunter made a case for this the other day incident in CWS BAL game w CWS
We need 100% computer called balls and strikes. Period. Also, Catchers stealing strikes is something that needs to be addressed. It's gotten so ridiculous the way catchers yank their gloves into the strike zones.
Agreed. There is no accountability for any umpires anymore. It's time for them to go.
I have been at Independent league games where there was a computerized zone. It takes away from the game. Part of the game is the suspense of human error, the reaction to humanity. There was no booing for a perceived missed call, no turning to your buddy and complaining he missed it, zero reaction from players. Sports are entertainment and we forget that. It’s popcorn and a movie, it’s dinner and a show. Take away the human aspect of officiating and you take away from the game, regardless of the sport. There are systems that will mitigate the worst calls in the future and even add to the human aspect. For instance you need to dispute the call immediately and the replay is on the big screen. You get three wrongs per game. Was the call correct? Let’s find out.
@@MapleTreeatdawnThen MLB should have the right to terminate umpires for continually poor performance...but MLB allows the union to protect the worst and ruins the game.
@@Yooper2024 That I agree with. MLB can use the computerized strike zone to grade umpires. There should be a bare minimum score that is agreed upon with MLB and the umpires union. The union should not want guys that stink. Nor should umpires be offended. The game at the pro level is incredibly fast. Let’s face it, as we get older, our eyes aren’t as good.
Umpires need to be held responsible. It pisses me off that they can get away with this BS!
I don't like when umpire lied about the call that is violation against the player they should tell the truth.
I thought Bucknor was going to be the next most awful one but you've made a heck of a case for Eddings. Sadly there are these, and others (e.g. Wendelstedt) that are competitors for that "honor" of worst of the worst.
I went to a white sox game in '03. Hunter Wendelstadt ejected Magglio Ordonez because I farted in the right field bleachers.
Seeing comments blaming the catchers too. Ridiculous. It’s the catchers job to do anything he can to get strikes for his pitcher. That includes framing which is nowhere near easy to do especially when it’s a 96 mph fastball. Framing is what separates mediocre catchers from great ones.
Angel Hernandez was just the worst of several bad umps
Loved the video. I agree, Eddings is pretty terrible. I can think of a few more names though, lol. Diaz, Bucknor, Little, and Carapazza.
As the old saying goes "You can kill the man, but you can't kill the idea".
Umpires have an ego problem, and a union problem
3:36 "usually the managers of both teams are the ones who go out and exchange the lineup cards" Wrong. At the pro level, the manager is only required to, and usually only does, go to the plate meeting at the start of the series. For someone whose entire channel is based around being critical you sure get your facts wrong a lot.
Angel Hernandez he's the one violated about the call against the player I'm glad he's gone.
I have said this for years but most people were focused on Mr Hernandez. I think I wrote a letter to the league.
....JUST SAYING BUT THE HOMEPLATE UMPIRE DOES MAKE CONTINUOUS BAD CALLS....PITCHER CATCHER CALL FOR A FASTBALL AND AND CATCHER O00OOPS
MISSES THE ⚾️BALL.
yup eddings, bucknor, and diaz really make me hate baseball sometimes
Is the attitude Ettings has towards EVERYONE that really makes him stand out. He hates everyone. And having been a professional umpire for so long, its not surprising, but its time to pack it in. We need a new generation of umpires who understand the modern game.
It’s a matter of time before an umpire gets hurt by a player, or some gambler who lost everything
Funny that you said the announcers on that one game were neutral. They always have a bias towards NY and LA teams.
I don't have an issue with an umpire being bad, so long as they are consistent. If the off the plate pitch will be called a strike, call it a strike all game. I watched an at bat recently. The pitcher threw the ball in the same spot 3 straight times. No joke, same spot according to pitch track. One would think it was either a strike out, or a 3-0 count. But no, the count was 2-1. That is what makes these umpires so frustrating. They are human, and can make mistakes. But just be consistent. Players can't get a feel for an umpires strike zone during a game because they are just all over the place.
C.B. Bucknor is horrible as well. He inserts himself into games and plays his power dynamic as often as he possibly can. He wants to throw people out of games and throw his authority around the diamond. He should be the next one gone.
Baseball and the NBA also the NHL now that I think of it. Have severe issues, I wont be surprised if in 30 years it comes out that the GM's colluded with the league to make favorable trades in what the league sees fit to "grow" the game.
I just want to point out once the ability of an umpire to make a bad call is removed from MLB the game will never be the same. Controversy is half of the fun of baseball. Sadly that is on its way out.
Now review the ACTUAL worst remaining umpire in baseball: CB Buckner.
we don;t need umpires... we have the technology...that does not make mistakes
ROBO-UMP Please get them up in the majors ASAP.
So Hernandez has started a "Horrible Umpire Consulting" biz?
Because we all know we pay big bucks to see the umpires, not the players.
They're all terrible. Hunter Wendelstadt, C.B Bucknor, Laz Diaz, etc etc etc
How can you beleive is. There are just so many bad umps.
I have an umpire you’ve probably never heard of who’s has ego and is really bad, Lance Barret
An incompetent umpire at the highest level of baseball proves that someone as incompetent as Hernandez and Edings can still sneak into the profession. Fascinating, isn't it?
Honestly, im surprised Angel didnt end up like jimmy hoffa
Nature abhors a vacuum. And so we should not be surprised that we have someone (or someones) to fill the giant void left by Angel.
He has joined the cult of Angel Hernandez
I still don't understand why do umpires set themselves up on a corner of the plate and not right in the middle? If they're set up on the corners then when a pitch is on the opposite side they're getting a skewed angle which is easier to miss the call. If on every pitch they were set up right in the middle of the plate they wouldn't have any skewed angles and would be more accurate.
Just look at 6:06 he's way over to that one side no where near the middle so of course on pitches on the opposite side are going to at a odd angle for him. So dumb
Obviously you've never umped a game in your life. This position gives you the best angle to see pitches. If you are set behind the catcher, you can't see bottom of the zone most of the time. Of course you have trouble with low and away but that's what you learn to see... Moreover in this position (which is called the slot BTW) you have the best protection from foul balls. The slot is taught in all ump clinics and if you don't work from the slot you are considered inferior and will never be able to work anything higher than a local beer league...
@@andreymalov9602 ''Of course you have trouble with low and away but that's what you learn to see'' Well yea there it is , and sorry but even these mlb top tier umps with decades of experience are pretty S at getting those calls right.
Well good thing is none of this matters because robo umps will be taking that job permanently in 2 - 3yrs (thank GOD). Can only hope there comes a time when these loser ass umps loose their jobs all together and robo umps and eagle eye laser tech can make every call on the field.
@@James_Ford4815 that won't happen anytime soon. Even average pro ump is WAY better than robo ump. Just look at Atlantic league, robo ump experiment there is a disaster. Of course robo ump is spot on in terms of horizontal position of the ball, but really sucks when it comes to vertical position. It's hard to explain in a few words here but in short, it cannot calibrate for batter's height in real time. All the metrics systems - Mlb, fangraphs, etc use post processing for that. That can be done electronically, but in real time - no way. That's outside the limits of today's techlology... So like it or not, you guys are stuck with us for a while :)
Who knew Angel Hernandez had a cousin.
this year has been horrible
I walk my team off and say by not haven’t him behind the plate.
Yeeeesss!! Great vid
The more this happens, the more likely it is going to be that umps will be replaced with automation. The umpires union needs to step in and ironically hold umpires accountable for their performance or it is going to cost people their jobs down the line
Get rid of umpires making calls. We have the technology to have calls made with precision from the front
Bro's a peach compared to Ángel Hernández
How could this guy have the worst strike zone when Joe West was still umping. Hernandez was nasty, but West was incompetent, yet lasted 44 years!
CB is hands down the worst current umpire in the MLB.
The most powerful union in all of sports is the MLB Umpires union. Eddings, Diaz, and Bucknor should all be fired or sent back to the minors. The league should have the right to suspend them for poor performance, or to send them back to the minors. When players perform poorly, they are benched, sent back to the minors, or released. When coaches and managers perform poorly, they are fired. When umpires perform poorly, they have 30 year careers.
I’m convinced he uses the batters box lines as the strike zone. There’s no way someone can be that consistently wrong without that being the fact ( well my opinion ). 🎉🎉✌️😎
Not that I disagree that he's a terrible umpire but that third strike in the world series call was correct. The ball did hit the ground but even more importantly, he made the correct signal for a third strike that wasn't caught cleanly.
I'm so glad that so many of the folks posting here apparently have umpired at the big league level.
Angel fans will never forgive Eddings
Laz Diaz and CB Buckner are ready to be the GOAT of goats.
It's too bad that we have so many poor officials in any sport. In MLB, I sometimes wonder if some of the umpires are not trying to be the worst in history or if it is just a power trip for some of them.
I would like to point out that there are some very good umpires, and I think if the bad ones were held accountable for their calls, maybe they would do better. I do realize it is not an easy job, and they are only human.
Do any of you know Patrick Hoberg? He is credited with calling a perfect game in the World Series on October 29, 2022. I wish sometimes that we could hear more about him and others consistently good umpires. They need to be recognized. 🇨🇦
All part of the show. You don't love a good manager-ump argument.
So he's Scott Foster of the MLB instead of hating the Heat it's the Padres and instead of favoring the Celtics it's the Whitesox, good to know.
No one could be worse than Angel Hernandez!!!!!
Yes, because nothing says "privileged upbringing" like being made to volunteer to do a job where you can do no right. It's really hard to get into umpiring Little League. I mean, you have to ask them if they want you to do any games, then you have to put your life on hold for the next three months when they give you all the games because they don't have anyone else willing to volunteer.
Also, you don't verbalize an uncaught third strike. His arm out to the side followed by an "out" signal is his mechanic for an uncaught third. Some guys will put both arms out to indicate the ball is in play, Eddings just happened to do one. In a situation like that, you would verbalize a catch, not a no catch -- similar to how you verbalize a foul ball, but not a fair ball. If the play is still going you don't want to say something that may distract from running the play out.
But yeah, Eddings can be kind of a dick, too.
Dude.... the Ump 'Edings' or 'Innings' ??? has some ISSUES MAN.
He sets up inside off the plate, the better guys are positioned more in the middle and move with the catcher
Angel Hernandez isn't the worst, he is the most hated.
he did make the call....he made the out signal before AJ turned to run to first. Horrendous at every level....swing call and then out call, not the safe sign at all
Padres fan here. I have no doubt Eddings has something against the Padres. Horrible.
CB. Seconds in and I’m going with CB.
Edit: Okay. You make a strong case. Definitely top 5.
But I have Eddings below CB and Laz.
Angel was not the worst ump in baseball, statistically he was near the bottom, but a few others are worse
Wait until all umps are finally replaced by digital laser computerized strike zones. End of bad calls. End of arguments. End of the human element of the once greatest game in America.
Personally, I have always thought Carapazza is terrible, as he seems to love making weird calls, then seems to enjoy ejecting people.
However, these days, it is a competition between Eddings and Wendlestadt for the worst. They both are bad, and seem to have huge chips on their shoulders....
Doug is actually WORSE in an on field performance than Angel was, Angel was never the worst umpire in MLB it is just that Angel always made it about him. Never helped that the one thing he was actually good at was calling BALKS which is just horrible for a relations point of view.
THIS is on MLB - commissioner - and the Umpire Union who continue to HIDE and not discipline their own horse manure ones.
The explanation for why Doug Eddings is so terrible is easy: He bets on the games he calls, and therefore he has to steer the outcome of the game according to his bets.
Angel Hernandez wasn't a terrible umpire. I'd say Hunter Wendelstadt is.
The main issue here is Unions.
