Excellent video. I was wondering how to save true seeds. I will be planting five different varieties of squash this year. I'm so glad I found your channel. Thank you.

I’m confused… why don’t you want the bees to pollinate the females? I saved all the seeds from each type of pumpkins and gourds…. Did I do this wrong and will my plants not grow next season?

Good morning! You can save the seeds from your pumpkins and gourds but they may have been cross pollinated by bees if the different plants were planted near each other.
We definitely want bees and other pollinating insects to pollinate the female flowers so we get fruit growing on each plant, but since pumpkins, squash and other members of the cucurbit family (cucumbers, summer squash, gourds etc) cross pollinate with each other, it is highly likely that if you save seeds from those fruits, you will be in for a surprise next season. The fruit may not be true to type and have characteristics of both parent plants when you plant those saved seeds next year.
If you want to save seeds from the fruits of the plant you grew this season and expect the exact same fruit next year, you must either plant only one variety of squash or pumpkins etc so they don't get cross pollinated by bees or other pollinating insects or do what I did in the video to ensure that cross pollination does not occur.
I hope that helps and doesn't confuse you more..have a great day!
