PLEASE do not stop making videos!!! i see you have slowed down a lot... and I'm sure that you have something like a life going on, so I don't mean to blindly accost you with guilt about it, but this is the first video of yours that I'm watching and I just love the way you talk about the notes and accords... I can tell you have done a lot of hands-on work with these scents and it's just wonderful the way that you share and express that. I am really infatuated with perfumery, and the way that it mimics music how you build a melody; marry that with the fact that smell is the sense that is the most connected to memory? Please, this is a psychology-art. Don't leave us!!! I'm marching on to watch as much of your videos as I can digest!!!! Thank you so much!!
you might have tea here.......... I'm swooning over his beauty, and learning so much too 😫😅😵💫🥵
this video would help us save hundreds dollar of wrong buy material, thanks a LOT man
You are amazing I feel like this is a very gatekept hobby and it’s nice to see someone trying to actually inform people with thorough information
🎉🎉😂😮😅😊
Oh wow I thought when an ex boyfriend wrote me a song and sung it to me that it was the best gift ever but to have a guy take the time and actually make a perfume just for me, well that’s just the most beautiful and loving thing anyone can do. I’d treasure it forever. I’ve seen professional perfumers say it sometimes takes them up to a year to create the most perfect perfume for them. That’s awesome
Materials I would add to this list as Basics for Men's Cologne Materials: Veramoss (synthetic Oakmoss), Cashmeran (synthetic musk highly used in men's colognes), Aldemone/Precyclemone B, Helional, Alpha Isomethyl Ionone (sometimes called "Gamma Ionone Couer"), Magnolan, Geranium EO, Pink Pepper EO (or CO2 extract), Ginger CO2 extract.
Some "Step-up" Men's Cologne Materials: Sylvamber (similar to Iso E Super, but higher isomer concentration), Hedione HC (High cis, has higher amount of cis isomer), Vetrofix/Cedryl Methyl Ketone, Kephalis, Myrac Aldehyde, Citral, Nerol, Allyl Amyl Glycolate, Farnesol, Birch Tar (rectified) and AmberXtreme.
You're on point 👍
Thanks I definitely was looking for this
Wow i too can read the ingredients list of parfumes 🫣
THANK YOU
im from pakistan your vedios is very info & learn tips . Awsome vedio . Keep it up 👍
four years on and this video is a gem! thank you. much less daunting now thanks to you.
I just discovered your channel: you just saved me from buying the wrong materials. Very informative. Thank you ! 😊
Fascination and curiosity on perfume making brought me here, though its not a subject of my profession.
This is the best channel ever i came across to admire and learn good things in perfume making in such clean and crisp way.
Wish i had some time to pursue this art as hobby some day.
May this channel reach 1 million...Insha Allah.
Beside all great info, i do really very much appreciate all the time and effort you put in this video. Here are hours of recording, scripting your video to have a logic and everybody to understand.
On top of all of these i love the genuine, true knowledge shared without dodge.
I can tell through the lens that you are an amazing person. Wish you all the best!
Thank you! 🙂
There are no words to describe how grateful I am for the work you are doing.. Thank you very much for all the information you share with us..May God reward you with what you deserve..Greetings from Libya
Amazing!! You are the kindest most given Parfumerer ever !!
Thank you so much for this packed and overflowing rafter full of knowledge 🙏🙏🙏
Grateful for this class. Excellent presentation, Like you i live a small house, storage is very important to me also. I have a small back office that i make body butter's and facial lotions. I can easily share the space. I live in Africa and this is going to be great to add to my line of beauty products. thank you for the time you took to teach us beginners. I have a lot to learn. i will take my time!
So glad I came across you videos! This is my first video but believe me I’m going to watch them all! As a beginning perfumer I really appreciate you making this content for us! I’m actually flying to Scott’s valley in August to take the 6hr course at perfumers apprentice! I’m so stoked! Anyways thank you so much
Late to this party but so glad I found the video. I love the way you explain everything. I did get some Cetalox crystals and a little bit of the Ambroxan DL. I added some of each to various perfumes and am in love. I also got some of the perfumers alcohol. Now I am hooked! I plan to experiment with some of the gourmands next. Thank you for the great overview.
I don't think I have ever been so grateful to find a channel and creator on RUclips than today. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am really excited now to start exploring, experimenting and trying new things and I owe that spark of creation becoming a flame to you today.
I just bought a number of these materials and some random ones I wanted to try. So excited to start blending things together. This was a really useful guide, but it was difficult to pare it down without any real reference point. I ended up getting a couple from each category, then subbing out some of the more expensive stuff... Like tobacco absolute is pretty pricey, so I got hay absolute instead because I always thought a Nicaraguan cigar had a musty hay smell to it. I'd like to see what you'd buy for under 300 dollars material cost, like ultra beginner stuff.
I have hay absolute...and to me it doesnt really smell much like tobacco absolute. it has its purpose...but if you want tobacco alternatives, check out TOBACOROL which smells like a cedar chest that held cigars in them.....or TABANONE which has a spicy tobacco twist
The best video I found on this channel. Thanks so much 🙏 💓 ☺️ for the easy explanation of this session.
Man, thanks so much for putting this together. I saw that you have newer videos on the same topic, but I just wanted to mention that this answered a lot of the questions many videos on other channels just plain didn't.
I'm building a brand, and once that brand is significantly large I'm going to use that as a platform to launch subsidiary brands like a fragrance one, so this has been really helpful with considering different levels of preparation that'll go into being ready for that once it's time for a launch.
Absolutely *loved* this mini crash course! Thank you for being so dedicated to teaching us your gifts 🤎🤎
This video is a great resource! I'll likely be getting several of your suggestions.
Sidenote: I know this is a 3-year-old video, and you may know this by now, but "allspice" is not just a blend of all the spices. It's its own spice, just like nutmeg or cinnamon, and it just happens to be named Allspice.
Agreed. But to my nose....it's scent profile goes into so many different directions. Lol
Can’t thank you enough I already have so many things that I bough since perhaps two years ago, and until I learned the dilitoution lesson two or three days ago from this channel I was would never know why most of my creations smell the same. It’s because of these very strong notes that no matter how little I try to put they would still overwhelm or stay present. In fact I now see that investing in a good scale right away is a must I always counted drops This very lesson ( this video ) is super informative you made me see that I can one day create something to be proud of.
I can get some essential oils from the Middle East and North Africa for much less that the prices you mentioned here but I’ll see a way to try and buy me a full kit of your recommenced hand picked choices because I been watching you for a few days now. And I can tell that you put a big effort into choosing these particular ones. So I’ll be taking a Great Leap Forward if only I can get me this whole big kit of today’s lesson
I was just thinking why not store every thing in a dedicated fridge just so I keep my bottles with pipette I just order them yesterday as soon as I realized I must dilute but I’ll be a good student and follow your instructions to the T
Blessings from Egypt
Hey just letting you know your content is way more useful than those with more clicks. Thank you!!
Hi there, agreed with you that it's an expensive hobby 😃. Me too spending money buying materials. And it's not enough, increasing day by day. Loved ur honest feedback. Why I have chosen this hobby is, last time I wanted to gift one of my friend perfume and I have noticed that could not get a decent perfume in my locality. Then I have started researching it. Thanks dear💕
This is the most useful video ever. I have really been considering getting into perfumery since I haven't found a scent that has everything I'm looking for. This is exactly what I needed. I was familiar with many of the scents after watching perfumers discuss fragrances, but wasn't sure which would be the best/most common to start with. Thank you so much.
Amazing video. Worth watching 3 times with your notebook and pen!
Amber does have a smell. Fossilized amber has a variety of hardness😮😮, but if heated you can smell it and that is also how you can authenticate amber jewelry. Amber resin, carved handles for utensils
Just stopping by to thank you! Learned a lot from your videos When I started perfume making I didn’t know anything or where to buy materials and
I watched this video and bought most of this materials you recommended. Have been learning sence.
Half way through this video - this is excellent and exactly what I was looking for! Thank you so much for taking the time to put a video like this together.
Amazing video man. Really appreciate your guidance. My brother in law has an extensive (~200) collection of unisex perfumes and he gave me a tour this week. It blew my mind and got me excited about fragrances in general. Being an engineer I love building stuff to a professional level as a hobby.
Question- when studying a demo formula or reformulation formula…how do you know which ones to tweak and which ones to not?
Thanks a lot...i am the beginner...it so helpful to make perfume...❤ I am from India
Dive deep into the the mind of a highly intellectual individual. Many props for the calculator been using it for some time.
Thanks for spreading the scent!
Absolutely Love this advice!! you sure dropped some gems!!!!
Juniper is an excellent pure case of eventual pure aldihide, so much lift as each amber lifts a different dry side
Pretty much the touch of both is escalated by the overwhelming amount of nothing. Nobody too evevevy body will do just fine
The last floral should be a der for only 10 bucks
your explanation is so great. i tried making my own perfume because of your videos.
please make other videos again..
love you..from Indonesia
Thanks so much for sharing your insight! Just bought a lotttt based on your recommendations. Can't wait to experiment!
Allspice is an actual pepper berry. I just learned this, recently. I’m 51, lol. I am obsessed w your videos
Love how you took the time to break it down and tons of great information, Thanks!
I watched til the end. Thank you! I really wanted to start my own perfume business which i formulated on my own. Your video helped me a lot! 😍
what a super informative video, please make more video for beginer in perfumery
Thank you so much.... You are my aromatic professor.....
Such an awesome post ... thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. Because of this video I am finally going to start with my childhood ambition to play and create my own scents for people to fall in love with, only this time I won't use garden hose water, flowers, leaves and orange peels marinated for days, followed by door to door sales to my kind hearted neighbours..cringe .)) let the game of blending begin. Thank You xx
Thank you for sharing your how to get started. Very well done. Clear pronunciations and nice voice.
Very informative video. Thanks. You didn’t mention testing strips. I find them very useful to see which ingredients work well together and keep wastage down to a minimum.
Hahha yes, I totally forgot to mention them. A must have for any Perfumers stash....
love you bro thanks a lot. you earned a loyal subscriber
Your introduction is so good. It addresses basically every concerns & questions that I, as a beginner, would have. *Continues watching*
Yo ! You just cost me a lot of money, Buster. Thanks, and it occurred to me that instead of covering a wood table with plastic sheets it's better to use a non-absorbent and scent-free material like Formica. I recently spilled a beaker of Iso E Super on an old varnished table and it ruined the surface. Your videos are a great help for newbies like me.
😂
Awesome video! I cant wait to start experimenting! Maybe a straw cleaner would help you with your Pipettes?
Thank you for such a wonderful video. I learnt so much, from the names to the aromas to the blends. Your description is absolutely clear, so much that I could imagine how each essence smells. Appreciate your teaching.
Wow, thank you so much for the detailed video, wish I saw this when I first started. Super helpful in providing guidance for fragrances. All this as free information!!! You are the Best!
Love your videos.. I'm starting out and this is helpful! ❤️
Hi sir , oh how i love love love your channel so much i absolutely enjoy your videos thank you very much for your kindness
This is what an awesome video. Thank you! And especially for the tip about bottle caps!
This was so helpful!!! Thank you for such a thoughtful video.
Great info - thanks. However what about Herbals?
Thank you. Much appreciated. Great video ❤
I love the video; it is very informative and nicely done. I do have a question, though. I heard that diluting materials is recommended before starting to work with them. Do you dilute your materials before you work with them and if so, what is the percentage? Thank you.
Thanks a lot BK. It was really helpful.
Hope to see more beginner friendly videos.
I plan to run a candle business, so I definitely need to learn how to create perfumes.
How did you end up making fragrances that you knew were safe for candles? I'm trying to find as much information as possible.
OMG thanks so much! I'm excited to scoop these up!
can't imagine how grateful i am for this video ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Firstly, thanks so much for the useful info! Your content makes many people happy.
Very interesting for me would be to know a bit about the toxicity of these raw materials while sniffing them nonstop. Say I start experimenting, with no previous knowledge about chemistry or perfumes, and I rely simply on my nose and creativity. So this is a lot of hours of smelling per day for many days, weeks or months. What are the health risks? Thank you very much!
Good video bro. I recently began learning what I can in the DIY forum on BN. This video is much appreciated.
I also enjoy basenotes forum now and then :)
@@bkscents7050 Yea. I've seen your posts and it's nice to put a face and an approach to it all. Again, great vid and up until now, it's the most informative overall I've come across. Good job.
Thanks man. Just don't take everything I say too seriously. My approach and thought process can be different from others. Every Perfumer is different and has different approaches to things. There is no right or wrong way....it's almost like an art. The end result and making people happy with the scent is what matters. How you get it to that point is entirely up to you.
I really hate chemistry but ur videos and my interest of perfume making made me to take notes and watch the video fully really very useful and amazing 😇 thank you for teaching us patiently each and everything 💯🤗
The chemistry aspect of perfumery is still worth looking into and you will find it useful down the road. I also hate chemistry, lol
I just took my fragrance 101 course at perfumers apprentice yesterday and needless to say I’m hooked!
How was the overall experience? What did you learn during these courses?
It was great! Rachel my instructor was awesome, we had some good laughs all day! We started in the beginner room just making a more simple fragrance getting used to mixing and matching scents. Made my very first fragrance here. Then we went into the artisan perfume lab and did a blind smell test which was super interesting! After that we made a key accord to go into my final fragrance. I made pina colada because it fit the profile I was going for. After that Rachel and I started working on and dialing in my final scent which turned out so much different than I had imagined it. I think thats the tricky part about creating is trying to make a scent that you have in your mind by melding the mats together to create that vision. Although it was different that what I had envisioned its still really nice! She showed me how to dilute although I wouldnt know what ratio to dilute certain materials if I had to. The ratios, percentages, math, and just focus/detailed recording you need will probably be the toughest. I was considering getting their beginner perfume kit. Can you take a look at it on their website and see if its a good one or if I should just go with your lists
I wouldnt bother with their $40 beginners kit, because it just a bunch of their 'house accords" in which there are many better accords/bases available. Their beginners Aroma chemical kit however is pretty good to start with, but youll still want to pick up a few good bases from IFF/Givaudan (givco)/Firmenich. Things like Rose Givco, Oakmoss Givco, Casis Base, Jasmine Base, etc......also will want to pick up a few naturals too like bergamot oil, lemon oil, cedarwood oil, etc
Yeah I was looking at the 250$ one that comes with like 50 different materials. Only thing is my girlfriend works at doterra, which makes essential oils, so idk if I should just buy the aroma chemicals and crystals etc from PA and get the eo's from doterra? Might just stick with the kit because I wouldnt know what rations to dilute some of the eo's off the start anyways
@@NUMSKUL_TX I wouldn't use Doterra oils. If you need inexpensive natural oils that are great for perfumery...go to libertynatural.com
Highly appreciated. I was searching for such kind of a video. Great work. U make it easy
Excellent video. Thank you so much for all this detailed information. I learned a lot. Particularly about not storing your materials in the dropper bottles. Going to have to check all of mine now and get the correct caps. Thanks again 👍
very nice video. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I am from India .
My first video with your channel and it definitely won’t be my last…thanks
pink pepper a must
I find myself wanting to put pink pepper in everything....love that stuff
Love the advice!!! Thank you so much for sharing :)
Thank you so much wrote them all down.
Now when i go to perfume workshop. I'll be like can have this this and that lol but defo will get some to start at home
Yes, it was so valuble for me... & I keep in touch with you later. Thank you...!
Ahh i m lucky to have my own agarwood oil that grow in my backyard...!!its smell very unique and mysterious..!!
Hello! Loved the content! Some questions? How do we know the right amount of each component to use so we don't get an alergic reaction?
Also the legal amounts of each and shoud we use any goggles or gloves while we're creating? Is there a maturation time?
I do not use goggles or gloves, but I do follow IFRA restrictions ...which is your best bet to follow regulatory guidelines for safe use for each material
@@bkscents7050 Thank you so much for answering. I read part of it but have to look at it in depth. I'm afraid one might have to pay a fine for doing this type of thing at home. I don't know much about Chemistry, do you think I will still be able to do it?
Thanks again! Super interesting channel!!!
Thanks for this video. Learning a lot about the industry and perfumes.
Great feature! Highly appreciated! Cheers from Sweden! 🇸🇪
You forgot many and I mean many stickers :), amazing video! I think you got me started and hyped up for the next step in my passion for perfumery
Very informative, thank you for this. Feeling inspired to get cracking again!
Thank you so much for this very helpful 👏🏽
I just found this video and I'm glad I did. So much information! I'll need to watch it several times. Question: once I've created my fragrance, can I then use it in a formulation for a lotion, body scrub, or body mist? If so, what percentage would be best? Thank you!
This is a tough one. A formula usually is made specifically for the end product type. Youll find that a formula you made intended for a alcoholic perfume spray may not work so well in a lotion or soap. While you can use the same materials, but youll have to tweak it (the formula) for the intent of the final product. Some materials behave differently in their final end product.
How do I register for your classes?
Nice content! What material do I need to make Tom ford level quality? What brand is best for supplies ? I don’t want the fake cologne smell not sue what that smell is but they all smell similar and I don’t want the designer mall fragrance smell which is toilette ? What’s do I need for a parfum?
@BK Scents do you sell beginner recipes? It would be great if you had starter recipes that are going to make a good base perfume that can then be tweaked and played round with. So like a spicy blend, leather blend, musky blend etc
الحمدللهJust a minute ago I decided to start learning this as a hobby so, here I am it was my first seeing your channel and it was really useful. A huge thx to you. I was really desperate to find a hobby I really enjoy as I tried many before and I didn't expect I will end up into perfuming, the funny thing is that by reading a novel talking about perfumes I got really addicted to it without realizing I start imagining myself doing it for the rest of my life and the adrenaline thing just hit me lol. I'm so interested I cant wait to make my first perfume
الله يوفقك
Great job mate!
Can't wait to get started. Thanks.
I appreciate you making this video so much. This info is so rare to find and I'm excited now because I have some direction.
You got this! Just keep working at it, it takes time and patience
@@bkscents7050 Thank you for teaching us for free
Thank you for giving so much great info for the beginners. Awesome Job!
I just watch half of it and Soo information
Linden blossom is tops in my book for a citrus/floral.
Givaudan makes 'Linden blossom Givco', and it smells oh so lovely.
You are best man God bless your business. Share more
I'm looking to start a perfume line and this video was very informative. Thanks for sharing ❤
You such a great person.... Thanks to teach us!
Generally speaking , how much money I need to buy all the stuff you mentioned !?
And thank you for great information 👏👏
Thanks sooooooo much for this much needed content , trying to navigate iff website is a lil complex I guess you could say trying to make sure things are for fragrance and not flavoring lol
If it's materials your after and are in the USA.....shop at perfumers supply house, perfumers Apprentice, and liberty natural oils. Those are good places to get all the essentials without having to by a large kilo direct from IFF, Givaudan, Firmenich, etc....
@@bkscents7050 thanks so much bk
Thank you very much for the info. I've never worn or been into using cologne because anytime I smelled something a friend of mine used or went to a store I literally gagged at the smell. I found a specific scent I really like recently, but the pricetag on it is outrageous so I figured i could make my own and you've explained everything so well that I'm confident I can do it. Thank you for sharing all your information through your own trials and errors. As well as being very good at describing each scent, why they're used, and how they're used. Invaluable information, really appreciate it.
I’d like to let anyone know before they run this fools errand. If you think you can save money by not buying that $800 cologne and making it yourself, buy the damn cologne. You’ll actually save several hundred by never getting involved in perfumery.
Definitely a must watch video 🥰
Very informative 👍👍👍
Very very very x very much informative. I am going to go with series of lessons. Hope I get these raw material in Pakistan
Fantastic video,, aroma from heaven
Great Great beginner's guide, so thorough in all aspects, thank you so much!
So thankful that you made this video 👏
You can heat up amber. And it has a scent. It's a fossil tree sap.
I am so grateful I found this video. I want to create a diffuser I want something not fruity or floral, what can you suggest I must try mixing?
