I guess because he is getting to inspect more of modern ones, he can now see that the improvements is not a myth and that they far from their early, cheap unreliable days.
I've got a 2017 Forte, and I love it. I drive it about 80miles a day. No complaints. It doesn't compare to a Camry because it's a compact car. It's more like a corolla. Also it's more user friendly than a Camry too. Mine has an Android auto sound system which is much easier to use than the new Toyota systems. Just my opinion
I'm glad you smelled the oil . Years ago a old mechanic told me me to always smell my oil and transmission fluid and feel it between your fingers , if they or one smells burnt change it now.
I've personally seen these things hit well over 250k with the original engine and trans with not too many issues cosmetically but next to no mechanical issues
@@chipfukmaster5928 yes but they babied them, and one guy I knew personally had his passed down (they owned it since it had 1 mile) and he literally used royal purple every 5k miles and did the trans every 50k Max and the power steering every 30k and coolant like 3 times, dude was nuts to say the least but that car is still chugging along like it's brand new although his was beat up cause he hit a deer lmaoo
I think everyone here is seriously underestimating Kia and hyundai. They are decent cars to buy if you do a lot of inner city driving where you don't put as many miles as you do in rural areas. They certainly hold up better than Ford Nissan Chevy Mitsubishi and fiats.
I drive a 2012 Hyundai Elantra as my daily. Just passed 200k and still running strong. Transmission has always slipped a little and the suspension is in need of service but, other than that, still going strong. The trick is, drive at a reasonable speed, don't accelerate too quickly or brake hard and make sure the oil is chaged. A car's lifespan is greatly dependent on the driver.
My 2013 Kia Optima 2.4L I purchased new is an awesome car even after going on 8 years of use and traveling 3 miles of somewhat rough dirt road to my house out here in rural Arkansas. No problems whatsoever. Heck - still has original battery! These are tough dependable inexpensive well built little vehicles.
Just got rid of my 2010 Forte. Loved the damn thing. Ended up selling it to my cousin for short commutes. Aside from the usual maintenance, the car gave no issues. I actually really miss it lol
Thanks for the "Canadian Kudos", Scotty! GM's Oshawa plant used to make great trucks! Our government gave them some "bail out" money. So GM thanked us by closing the Oshawa plant. Thanks a ton, GM!
Dude. If the company got to close a plant. It's gonna close the plant. The company is an entity in itself it has the right to do what it wants. You just gotta deal with it.
@@carlosandleon Most of the time, governments prop up factories on the condition that the factory doesn't close. If a company takes a government handout (most of the time they are not required to repay the money), and then closes the factory, that's taking the money under false pretenses. It may not be criminal, but it certainly is reprehensible! It's disgraceful...
I've owned 3 Kia's (model year 2010 and up) and I must say they aren't cheap crap. They drive smooth, and are extremely reliable. I drive a lot (30k miles/yr) and am very content. I will continue to purchase Kia's in the future.
That is really good to know. I recently rented a forte while on vacation and was impressed. My questions is build quality, reliability and if it will last as long as a honda.
@@Dannyssb the only problem I’ve had with my 2013 Kia forte ex is power steering shaft needed replacing as well as the alternator and battery, brake rotors and tires. All that was at the Kia shop so I was charged for work but it was $3,600 in repairs. Pricey but it will last well over 250k miles so I’m sticking with it. It’s at 139000 miles and I’d say get it! It’s reliable and I get up to 38 mpg if I drive the speed limit, 33mph with some speeding.
I have 2 KIAs: 2012 Sedona van, 2012 Forte. I change the oil and brakes (rotors and pads) myself. I changed the original batteries after 7 years. I could have gotten another year on the batteries but figured I should not gamble and risk paying towing costs. I have been thinking of buying a new KIA but low on funds. Very impressed with KIA. I have had Toyota, Nissan cars.
Nobody is saying that they aren't, more like just pointing out that they're econoboxes that will get you from point a to point b even if it's in a crappy and harsh way lol
Kia n Hyundai have come a long way n much better than they use to be......giving Toyota n Honda a run for their $$ n doing quite well. lots of older high mileage hyundais n kias rollin around just like the toyotas n hondas.
@@driver4011 I drive a 2010 Sonata with 162k miles. I've had it for 4yrs. I was thinking about upgrading this year, but so far no engine or transmission issue. I only had to change out suspension parts that are normal to wear out at this kind of mileage. I decided to keep for at least another year since it has not been giving any issues.
Brian Martinez good luck with that stuff Man. Highest I went was precal, and I had no intentions of doing more. Business math is college was a hell of a lot easier... lots of respect to people with the worth ethic to get to those high level math classes.
I bought a used kia sorento for $1900 with 199k miles. Needed a bit of work (new plugs and coils, catalytic converter, alternator, ac compressor) all pretty easy maintenance. But as of now it's been more affordable than leasing or financing a cheap car, and it drives great (just survived a 4000 mile road trip).

I had a kia optima 2001 bought it in 02 lasted me until 2016 when I totalled ,never had a problem with it ,put 269,000 by the time scrapped it,in 09 while doing the water pump and timing belt,my mechanic told me that in late 90's early 2000's some engineers from Toyota whent to work for kia, thats the reason they have the similarities.
Just got myself a 2020 Kia Optima (hail damage totaled my 2009 Camry). My mother has a 2018 Camry. She had to drive my car the other day and liked it so much more than her Camry. At first I thought she was just being nice, but after her going on and on about it I realized she was serious hahah. Love my optima. Even if it feels like a “mom car”.

This is not my dream car but at the time i bought it .is all i could afford new. But it's been a good ride no complaints i love my little kia .
Used Koreans are cheaper and almost the same quality as Japanese. Used Japanese are overpriced for nothing. The 2008 and newer of korean cars are nice and reliable. Mr Scotty. I could disprove your opinion on used hybrids because I found an independent shop works on hybrid and electric cars.
Exactly. Korea is stepping up their game. Not only that, the stuff inside the Kia is better than the Honda and Toyota. I remember my Kia Soul had standard Bluetooth that worked when you would have to pay extra for a corolla or civic. Not only that it was comfortable and roomy.
Right. They beat others by offering more standard features specially genesis g90 compared to others, it has numerous standard features that still optional on others.
Korean gear is fine compared to most. The biggest problem is everybody compares Korean to Japanese. Take Washing Machines. In Australia you now have basically 3+ chioces. Chinese - Normal Brand names Made in China - European Miele or Snow Maid? or something like that from the USA. Price - $300 to $600 Chinese with an unknown Brand Name. $600 - $900 Chinese with a Familiar Brand Name but made in one of the two main Factories in China that Make the no Name Brands. Pretenders. European Miele and Snow Maid USA. (Something like that) 1,800//$2,200 Good? but break you if anything does go wrong. There is another + Choice. LG or Samsung from Korea. They actually give a 10/12 year Warranty on the Transmission and a new control panel is only $90/120. Price. The same as those that pretend to be Australian but are Made in China. Overall they will be more reliable than the $2,000 gear. Bells and whistles? I don't know. They wash clothes and that is all that really counts.
@@chipfukmaster5928 At least they honoured there 7 year warranty. My son had problems. First time they did extensive work. Not fixed they took the entire engine out put in a new engine. Sent the old one back to Korea. No big hassles.
I own a 2015 kia sorento and a 2002 honda accord. The accord is my toy and kia is my daily driver i converted into a camper vehicle with fridge,bed,tv/dvd player and home comforts. Only big thing i have done is shocks and struts which i upgraded to kyb gas with kyb mounts. Runs great no issues and just hit 72k. My accord a/c blows colder than my kia and thats the only thing i have noticed comfort wise. My honda has 137k miles on it and i do all the work on them myself mostly using orielley parts and parts that exceed oem quality. My accord has megan racing coil overs and i have had no major issues on either vehicle
I own a 2011 Forte koup SX. It's a sharp looking vehicle. Luxurious interior, bigger 2.4L engine making 175HP, and a better 6 speed automatic transmission vs the 5 speed on the older fortes. It has 200k kms (120k miles) and the only problem its ever had was the radio blew a capacitor (I have a new stereo with an old subwoofer and amp so it was just an excuse to put those in!!) and just today my fog light switch on the turn signal stock has a loose connection so they wont turn on unless it hold it in a specific spot. So funny my kia has its second ever problem when you upload! I just bought the replacement part for 100$ Canadian. I love the car very much, very sporty and gets 7.0L / 100km (34mpg) combined!!!
MICHAEL GRANT not a money pit at all sir. Very cheap and easy to maintain oil changes where I live are $34 have a 2019 with 16k miles troublefree. I know people that had 2014,15,16,17,18s that never died on them or had a problems where it had to be constantly fixed. So I don’t know where you get moneypit from. These are good cars that will last you a life time so as long as you take care of it. So stop comparing Kia with Toyota at this point kia is smashing Toyota with their new cars.
@@nicholass281 Kia/Hyundai has had its fair share of problems... Mind you so has toyota especially as of recent. That being said, my forte has been exceptional, with the clear white and tinted rear windows.. TL;DR if you're curious about recalls at botttom. The GDI 2.0L version of my engine was one of the biggest engine recalls in history and some of the fortes with e MPI 2.0 and 2.4L engines have issues too. Good news for me, since if mine ever goes out theres a extended engine warranty waiting for me to replace it for free, and I've got a 200k km one thats perfectly healthy at the moment! Also the "oil cap recall" for the 1.6t, since they originally said 0w20 but they really need 0w40 or else you'll blow the engine/turbo early. Similar to German turbocharged smaller engines since the early 2000s, they need heavier oil because those little turbskies get hot. They did it so they could report a couple more MPGs on the specs of the car... Very Shady. In my case however, I drive my car hard, all i've ever replaced are fluids, brakes, tires, lights.. and now a upgraded radio and new light switch/turn signal stock.... that's nothing for a 10 year old car! In my opinion this car is a hidden gem.
I have a 2010 Forte EX, doesn't look any different than this one (except silver). 88,000 miles, bought new. I had a slight issue with the transmission shifting roughly sometimes, dealership fixed it and had no problems since. Other than three flat tires (hey, just crap luck, not the car's fault), I have had zero issues. Definitely not planning on getting rid of it anytime soon. Love my Zeke!
Every time I watch one of these videos I like Scotty more and more. I want to move to Texas just so I could live down the street from him and be able to drop by and talk to him.
I know what you mean, but I live in Texas and there is no way I would want to live in Houston. Scotty is a refreshing conservative in a sea of liberals.
Gary H True that, I did that. Took my Kia Soul to him. Lost my job so I got rid of my big 4x4 truck and bought the soul. We did talk about what Houston is turning into and I was sad to hear he is moving, but happy for him. You may see a for sale sign in his videos showing the front yard. He is a hoot, the same man in his videos. I live in Tomball Texas so I intend to move farther from Houston as well.
I bought a bluedriver thanks to Scotty. My car is still in relatively good shape but if I had it when I bought the car I would've saved some money. You're the man Scotty, thanks for the advice.
My favorite car that I owned from the last 50 years was my 2001 Kia Rio Cinco. And I've owned a Camry and a Corolla, too. If I had one car back again, it would be the Rio Cinco. I traded it at 100,000 trouble-free miles.
I have a 2010 Kia Forte EX 2.0L engine (made in Korea model) and it’s the best car I have ever had. I got it used as a previous rental car with 30,000 miles and now I have 138,000 miles. I haven’t had one single problem with it. Just regular stuff like replacing tires/brakes, oil changes, new battery, ect. I love this car, I will have it until it can’t drive no more.
You got that right. I got a 2020 forte. I'm used to driving toyotas. Driving through curves feels tight and not smooth. My alignment feels off. I never felt that way with a toyota.
David Van Buskirk They just ride differently. If all you ever had was Toyota’s, of course it’s going to feel off. I felt the same way when I rented a Camry. Sluggish transmission compared to my Optima
David Van Buskirk Kia quality has really gone up..besides the fact they did have a recall recently but it’s for certain models 2011 -2015 I believe. 16 & up, solid
My mom had her Kia spectra since 2001 and alternator went out after 13 years and, we drove it everywhere and we had to borrow aunts car for year and 2015 and got brand new 2015 Kia Forte with 70,000 miles not issues and I have a 2016 with 95,000 just got spark plugs and oil change. We’re loyal Kia owners. The only thing in my car is it shakes at lights.
bought an 05 sorento with 205k miles on it for $1800 a couple years ago. It's since made trips to and from New Hampshire and Colorado, as well as Arizona. Mileage is now at 220k, and it honestly runs pretty great. It's already paid for itself and was a cheaper option than financing or leasing a new car.
I rented a Kia Forte in Panama and was pretty impressed! Nice enough car, rode OK, very quiet, had a little sportiness to it. (BUT - it was a manual transmission, which I don't think is available in the US. After the AT takes it's 'angle share' of the HP, may be a bit of a dog) It's no Toyota or Honda, but I'd prob. get one before I got a Nissan.
I have a 09 Sedona LX with 170,000+ miles. I almost hate to admit how well it's holding up. Only real issue I've had is a couple bolts on the brake caliper rusting up enough to get stuck and break and recently some minor electrical issues.
Ive got a Kia rio hatchback. It runs perfectly 37mpg. I sprayed seafoam into the intake to clean the intake valves. Before that it was getting 32mpg. It didn't smoke at all during the spaying. I let it hot soak for an hour. I drove about 2 miles down the road and then a giant white cloud came out. It went away in less than 1/3 miles. The car felt lighter after that puff of white smoke came out.
I have a 2011 SX Koup, 18" tires and the 2.4 i4, 167K miles, it still works like a DREAM. No oil burning, transmissions shifts as smooth as it could ever. I even have halo headlights on it. It's a nice car, still.
I own a 2011 Kia Soul sport, bought it used 7 yr ago with low miles. I currently do home health and drive 800-900 miles a week for work. I’m approaching 178,000 miles and it’s still going. My only issues last 2 years have been- new alternator, a new battery and fixed the a/c for $800 because of a short circuit after hitting some road debris. I’m happy with the car and the spaciousness of the cabin. It’s great to haul stuff, too! It’s hard to consider another car, since it’s my second Kia. I think- once a Kia owner, always a Kia owner. Scotty- how can I ensure to keep this lil hamster 🐹 car going and going, specially when nearing 200,000, due to high mileage job? Thanks for your advice or suggestions!!!!
Yep, just bought the wife a 2020 Optima. 7 year warranty, fixed price annual service, and free roadside assist if the annual is carried out by a dealer. And the car is very well finished, quiet, comfortable, and with lots of features (all that in the Si model!)... Wins all round I'd say!
Analyzing the owners themselves would be a good idea too, i mean why on Earth would anyone buy a Kia ? you know its not gonna end well, if your very lucky it might last you a year before problems start but always in my opinion buy Japanese or German , avoid Mercedes though because as Scotty has said many times they are a money pit.
@@lancsroddl3131 seriously? Then why do many Indian families in the UK driving them? For example my friend Saed has a 2005 Mercedes diesel which has done 450 thousand miles, he works as an uber driver hence the mileage but never had major issues,

@K Y Description and operation of pushbutton start for 2018 impala. Right from service information. GM tech here. It's actually not easier to steal a push to start car. Here's the way it works. Doesn't seem easy to me! When the vehicle Stop/Start switch is pressed, the low frequency antennas emit a challenge to the keyless entry transmitter. The transmitter receives this challenge and emits it's response as an RF message. The transmitter transmits a signal that contains its unique value, which is received by the BCM through the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver. The BCM then compares this value to a value stored in memory. The BCM also monitors various control modules to determine if the stored environment identifiers match. If the correct transponder is detected, the electric steering column is unlocked, and there is no start disable from OnStar the BCM will send the prerelease allowed message via serial data to the ECM. The vehicle will be allowed up to 3 seconds run time. If the theft check is incorrect, the environment identifier check fails, the incorrect transponder is detected, the electric steering column is locked, or there is a start disable from OnStar, the BCM will send a negative response and the ECM will not start the vehicle or will immediately shut off the vehicle if prerelease allowed the vehicle to start.
I had a 01 Kia sephia. Drove it 300,000 miles. Never had a fuel pump, water pump, alternator or transmission problem. The power steering hose started leaking and the electric fan stopped working. Sold it. The guy overheated it and blew the head gasket.
I own a 2011 kia forte and it just clicked over 145000 miles , never broken down , only replaced the vvt oil thing ( myself , cost $70) , no issues at all i drive 500 miles a week with construction and the military . I think everyone here is seriously underestimating Kia and hyundai. They are decent cars to buy if you do a lot of inner city driving where you don't put as many miles as you do in rural areas. They certainly hold up better than Ford Nissan Chevy Mitsubishi and fiats.
You do know that 1,000 miles of city driving causes the same amount of wear as 10,000 highway miles...?
Lol

I drive a 2012 Hyundai Elantra as my daily. Just passed 200k and still running strong. Transmission has always slipped a little and the suspension is in need of service but, other than that, still going strong. The trick is, drive at a reasonable speed, don't accelerate too quickly or brake hard and make sure the oil is chaged. A car's lifespan is greatly dependent on the driver.

Very Shady.

Scotty is right , very reliable but no camry for sure . Very economical and cheap for transport . Costs at the moment 25 to fill and crack 36 mpg , if i use 93 i get 45 mpg . Great car if looked after
recommend a trickle charger.
I'd take a Challenger over a Charger anyday especially if it just trickles----------
Yep, a solar powered trickle charger is a good idea.
@@garyh7949HolyGrail solar car w/ entire car the panel including all windows except front similar to tint ---- hotter the darker they get but not dark as sin on inside car is provided it own plus extra energy while keeping you cool cruising -------------
Got one for my boat batteries, and put one on my Landcruiser when I'm away for work... They work brilliantly!
Comparing a Camry to a Forte isn't a reasonable comparison, just bought another Optima and already own Toyota, couldn't be happier. I feel that for the money KIA is the most car and options available.
I have a 2006 Camry which I like. Got an Optima as a rental when I went to LA last summer. Was really impressed with it. Nice car.

My 2013 Kia Forte still runs great. 109,000mi.
I've only replaced a starter, battery, & put new tires on it.
"Im an Android man" Say no more, subbed
I had a 2017 highlight our brand new first owner and it did nothing but fall apart and I'm so glad I got a Kia today better warranty better product!
YO, TOYotoa, would you please tell Scotty what the hellz goin' on with the fuel pumps already!?!?!
Probably: the Fiat engineer lost his job and is now working for a Toyota parts assembly plant.
20 years ago, I worked for a plant that made Calsonic and Delphi parts. We had 10 returns out of 1 million. China started producing the same part and 4 out of 10 were bad.
@@billdougan4022 Can confirm. A lot of made in Japan Nissans have Calsonic Kensei parts and they last a long time (radiators are kinda shitty though for Japanese).
I have that same vehicle , regular oil changes and she's never missed a beat in 8 years . Bought at 45000 miles now getting close to 200,000 miles and still going strong , sounds like a diesel though lol
It's crazy and makes me think the engine is gonna go at anytime it's all Hyundais fault I have PTSD my 13 Veloster blow up on me coming home from work ..
*MAKE MORE VIDEOS LIKE THIS*
My wife and I are on our fourth new Hyundai since 2011 and have NO problems with any of them. Very comfortable and the handling was fantastic. My son bought a 2015 Optima last year and runs like new!! Wouldn’t consider the competition!
Fun fact: Scott is my neighbor
Rev up your 'earplugs'. 👂
How did it feel everytime Scotty would make a old video he would peel out in the street?
Proof?
Scott is my dad
But you dont own a car😫😣😥
I have a 2011 kia forte with 115k still running good paid it off earlier this year
