Thanks to Scotty I no longer wish I had a Cadillac or a Mercedes. when I’m riding in my Toyota Camry and one zips on by me on the road I think “ psssshhh what an endless money pit you rube” I’ll still have my car 10 years from now driving as smooth as I am today.... thanks Scotty
I've had a Kia Forte ( 2012) for eight years. The only thing I have done to it is tires , brakes and change the oil. I'm trading it in for another Kia.
I love my forte..in 2013 i bought a 2011 with 54,000 miles on it. Sept 2020 it has 211, 754 miles. New brakes once and regular oil changes every 3500 miles once it went over 150,000 miles. Am just now having first problem of hard shifting and reduced acceleration..probably the transmission? But hey, 7 yrs, that many miles..its been a great car.
I been driving hyundais and Kia's for last 12 years. I had only one break down. It was bad timing sensor. Other than that no problems. My friends still fixing their bmws haha
We have a 2020 Hyundai Elantra SEL and it’s an amazing car ... very smooth very quiet . Loaded with safety equipment and has a TEN YEAR power train warranty and a 5 year bumper to bumper warranty .... more enjoyable to drive than my 2018 Camry LE

Kia: Scotty make a video about our base model forte Scotty: Never! Kia: We have an *actual key* not a remote start Scotty: Here’s Why This Kia is the Best Cheap New Car to Buy
@@timbohouston they don't actually, which is why kia and its cousin hyundai failing badly in Asia having really poor resale value. They tried to follow Audi, BMW impractical features giving lots of problems when old
@@donaldchristie3534 depends on which country you're in. Over here, cars are expensive when new and of you're buying a new Kia, you're stuck with loan years later while the car doesn't cost a thing. Spare parts are rare and costly as distributor didn't bother stock up due to poor sales. Better get a Toyota or Mazda
The thing is Toyota used to be the value brand in the 90s. That's over and they are now the gold standard. You have to go to Kia/Hyundai for value now.
@@recoveringnewyorker2243 Honestly, Hyundai and Kia will last just as long as Toyota would, but I am suggesting Toyota because its resale value will be higher when selling them at like 200k miles. Maybe not so much with Hyundai/Kia at 200k miles. But then you get Hyundai and Kia at discounted price so it sort of evens out. Just my opinion
Master Try And that’s a good opinion. However, resale or trade-in value means nothing to me. By the time I’m ready to trade a car the dealer doesn’t want it.
@A 4 PLAYJUNKIE kia/ Hyundai are cheaper to maintain compared to Toyotas. Both the 2.0 in the Kia and Toyota cars are reliable engines. The Corolla is better on gas.
djevan 41598 agreed plus I own 2 Kias one for my wife one for me. Both Fortes. Hyundai & Kia have both come along way. No problems with the cars so far.
On my 3rd Kia. Zero problems with any. Had a 2006 Rio5, 2012 Forte, now a 2019 Forte. All 3 were great on gas and reliable. Kia has really stepped up as consumers are finding them to be feature-rich vehicles for a good value. Hyundai and Kia have done great work the last decade.
Just like Scotty I fix cars for a living and today I was doing an alignment on a 2011 Kia Optima where the customer put 100 miles on the car a day and it had 232,000 miles and it drove pretty good for the mileage and once I finished the alignment I was impressed by the car for what it is
I think Kia is improving and moving up the car food chain. I am impressed by the feel of the buttons and switches on the dash of my Kia Sportage. They have a quality feel and that says a lot about the product in my opinion.
I have a 2012 Sorento V6 with 185k miles on it, took it to the shop last week for new tires and struts. The tech said he couldn't believe the car had that many miles on it as he never seen such a car.
@Paul Stejskal Hyundai/Kia have improved a fair bit but no need to put Toyota down. Toyota is still at the top for reliability and value for money which is what most car buyers want.
Consumer Reports just removed the Kia Forte and Soul from their recommendation list because reliability on the newly introduced CVT has been very poor. Alot of people read that magazine.
I absolutely loved my forte. I've had it 6 years and it's now 10 years old. I'm thinking about grabbing another since I've had a relatively inexpensive great impression since I've purchased mine. You go in with realistic expectations, you won't be disappointed with a Kia.
Scotty recommended this Kia, a used car at a fair price that does what it suppose to do-- get you from here to there. I own a Toyota and a Kia and they are both, in my opinion, good values at their price points.
I've bought Kia's and Hyundai's since 2010, and haven't had any issues with none of them. My wife has a loaded out 2019 Hyundai Sonata Limited we bought new for 22,000 and I would put it up against any other car made. I have a 2012 Kia Soul that I drive for work and has over 220, 000 miles on it and have done nothing but normal maintenance on it and it's still running and driving great. I'll keep buying them.
I am also a Kia Sorento owner since 2010, I currently have a 2016 Sorento and a 2016 Hyundai sonata, never any issue since 2010 except that one of my Sorento panoramic moon roof cracked once... Kia and Hyundai should earn a gold star.
Wife and I purchased a 2006 Kia Sorento when they first came out. What I liked about it was the V6 engine in a small SUV. And now it has 125,756 miles on it. The only major repair on it was a cracked radiator . Other than that it is still rolling strong. And now my daughter drives it. Wife decided to stay with Kia and now drives the 2018 Kia Sorento. These are well built solid vehicles for the price.
I love Scotty's "honest" videos like this. For his wealth of knowledge and potential to look down at certain cars, I really appreciate when he commends something that is truly useful/good.
I have a 2019 Forte. The value of the warranty, and the features of having key and a handbrake and the price I paid for an economy car really made my decision simple.
Scotty, I own a 2017 base model Kia Forte LX myself. I bought it new as a leftover with steep incentives in Feb of 2018 for around $16k. It now has over 70K of hard miles (I'm an Uber Driver), but it hasn't given me the slightest bit of problems. Mine has the standard 6-speed transmission, which I think gives it quite a bit more oomph than the automatic, but I'm still able to get a combined average of 35 MPG. If I maintain a steady 55 on the freeway I can get around 45 MPG, but who am I kidding, I never drive that slow. My brakes still have over 40% remaining. The size of the trunk is surprising for a car that size. I often pick-up passengers headed to, or from, the airport or seaport that are amazed that I got all their luggage to fit. My passengers often compliment me on its ride and comfort, and are quite surprised by how well it compares to the Civic, Corolla, and even its sibling, the Hyundai Elantra. I only wish it had an independent rear suspension, as driving over railroad crossings or pot holes can sometimes be quite jarring. All in all I'm quite happy with it, and just wanted to share my experience.
How much do you pay a month for your kia if you dont mind me asking. I’m a college student and really need a car. On the website it says that I could pay as low as $250 a month (without insurance) but I wanna know how truth that is.
@@Juliquiny As a young person in college my advice to you would be to buy a reliable older used Civic, Accord, Corolla, or Camry rather than buying anything new. Before rideshare driving I sold cars for years, and I can't tell you how many young people I know who messed up their credit by getting into payments that they thought they could afford while they were in college, but struggled with them when the realities of independent life in the real world hit them. Most students, unless on full ride scholarships or getting tuition paid by their parents, are racking up student loan debt, and most jobs right out of college are entry level even if lucky enough to get in their chosen field. There are a lot of costs associated with car financing that no one ever thinks about when purchasing. For one, there is routine maintenance and normal wear and tear which isn't covered under warranty, that usually means taking to a dealer during the warranty period, which is expensive. If you don't put a lot of money down you'll need to get GAP coverage, so that if your car is totalled you won't end up owing the finance company more than your insurance will pay for the car's value. You'll also need full coverage insurance, and since you are young without a lot of money saved, you'll probably want uninsured motorist protection added and a lower deductible, so again you won't end up owing the finance company way more than insurance will pay if totalled. As to my Forte, as I mentioned it was a 2017 leftover that I purchased halfway through the 2018 model year. It was the cheapest, most basic, trim level, with no other options, and I purchased with $2000 in factory incentives, plus what was probably nearly that amount in factory to dealer incentives to move out the old inventory. So I got it for around $16,000 OTD. When all was said and done, my monthly payment was just under $250, but I also had well established good credit, had been on my job for several years, and put down $2500. I hope this helped.
OMG I forgot Samsung was Korean! This hits home so hard. I remember like 2008ish you couldn't pay me to buy a Samsung phone. It was always HTC. Now look HTC barely exists anymore & Samsung runs the market.
China and Korea had better technologies before Japan began to absorb the Western civilization. For example, some of Japanese UNESCO architectures were built by Korean engineers, most of Japanese potteries like Imari, Satsuma, Hagi,.. were all created by kidnapped Korean technicians. No wonder Japan is lagging behind.
CrimsonVanquish Honda Civic is built in uk that’s no good. Toyota started to take short cuts. So they started to have problems. Specially electrical. Only Japanese car I would buy brand new is Mazda. And also Koreans started to make some good quality cars.
I've had my 2010 Kia Forte almost 10 years! GREAT gas mileage especially on the highway. I could drive to my college town 100 miles away on 1/4 tank of gas (used roughly 3 gallons, CRAZY). The only issues I've ever had out of it were a weird shift from I think 1st to 2nd, the mechanics fixed it up for me, and my battery was just changed last year! I think 3-5 years is recommended but mine held up, I noticed the power was starting to diminish and it was having a harder time starting and I knew. Most of the OEM parts like headlights and such, I have only replaced a tail light and turn signal light. It's been a great car, I don't have 100,000 on it yet and it's my daily driver. It'll be hard to let it go, I don't plan to anytime soon.
I also have two. A Sorento and a Forte. Both 2018's both bought certified pre owned a year after so you get them at half the price. Great value. Still not a fair resale but if the word of mouth spreads we'll get there
@@ericjones363 I own a 2011 Soul with 135,000 miles. Bought it new. Only thing that went wrong was a gas cap seal. Just got a new 2019 Sorento. I went with Kias for 3 reasons. #1 - they have the best warranty. Only Hyundai and Kia offer 100,000 mile warranty. #2 - they were heavily discounted like 25% off out the door so depreciation is not so bad. #3 - we looked at Toyota and I didn't fit in the RAV4 since I'm 6 ft 3. I kept smacking my head on the door seam. We also looked at Honda and the CRV has that garbage 1.5L that has oil dilution issues and a CVT.
Kia and Hyundai have worked really hard in improving their reliability.. I think they’re much better than what they’re portrayed to be and perhaps better than any automobiles from Detroit. In 2014 I bought a used 2002 Hyundai Santafe for $6K and drove 50K miles for 4 years with No problems and issues whatsoever.
I find that the transaxle works tighter if you switch to the sport shift, which also has a lag on hard shifts so you have to shift it early but if you have the interest to do you can experiment with it. Also if you are looking for power use the sport mode. I have to warn everyone that the eco drive mode is not meant for the city stop and go traffic and I have had situations where it was not responding predictably to accelerating, making for a few scary moments. It’s meant for the highway so be careful.
I own a Kia Forte Ex 2012. I paid $17 k brand new. I just changed the water pump. Ive had it for 8 years. I changed the rear brakes last year and the front 2 times in 8 years.GREAT CAR! It has 80,225 miles.
People think the push down e brake is new...lol my 58 CADILLAC has the same E brake system. For 60 years it was old tech. Now ITS BACK!! LOL. Totally prefer the hand version.
Thanks Scotty! Man, any time I'm unsure about a vehicle, I can always count on your excellent, brutal, and honest review. I've been following your channel for years and years and have learnt so much, so thank you! And, it seems like from all the research/personal experience I do/have on Hondas, Mazdas, Toyotas etc, it seems that you and I ALWAYS have the same opinions on vehicles...so again, thanks! Keep it going! God bless.
Just bought an 8 year old Kia Rio, 2nd car. No problems logged apart from tires and wipers. 60K miles on it, £6.7K. Comforting as hell knowing Scotty approves.
@@JDMSwervo2001 not so much from car complaints there alot for engine stalls heated seats catching fire trans slipping and more. Not as reliable as you said
Honda quality has gone down. Kia and Hyundai are next best if you can't afford or don't want a Toyota. Just don't expect to drag race in it, it's a daily driver.
One issue Hyundai and Kia have to work on is paint job or rust protection. Once rust gets in it spreads fast on both of those makes. Some cars are better than others.
scrumsey Toyota corrects problems that turn up. Honda ignores things like fuel dilution in oil in their CR-V and any other vehicles using the same engine. Hyundai has a Theta II engine in many vehicles that has design issues that cause it to have a short life and that they are ignoring and just moving forward with putting a different engine in next generation vehicles.
webcomment Toyota is also the only manufacturer to have a 1.2 billion criminal lawsuit for hiding information from the law and consumers for unintended acceleration. Largest auto lawsuit in the world.
@@ArthropodSpidey let's put the unintended acceleration to rest. It was proven that there was absolutely no problem with the accelerator. The reason it was happening was a design flaw and it was proven. The gas and brake pedals were too close together which is why the acceleration happened unintentionally. It had nothing to do with faulty parts. Look it up for yourself.
I own a 2013 Sorento. It’s the EX trim. Got it with 55,000 miles in 2017. At 99,853 now. Only thing I’ve paid for is brakes and tires! LOVE this SUV. Smooth and quiet on my interstate commute. Best part, monthly payment is $0.00/ month!
I was impressed with the 2021 Kia Forte that I rented this past wknd on a 600 mile roundtrip road trip. It was overall comfortable, had a solid quality interior, nice exterior style, very good gas mileage and accelerated pretty good merging on the highway for a 4cyl. It handled curves fairly well and had a good amount of standard features. It's a car that I now am considering owning and running up the miles on and its one that I could say I even seen the value purchasing new and just keeping a long time. Solid ride people, check it out if you're looking around.
This is the exact car I own. It's my first car and I love it! It's not the fanciest car, but it's nice and comfy and it can reliably get me from point A to point B.
I bought a 96’ Kia Sephia new and lasted me til 2005 when I sold it, I then bought a 2005 Kia Rio and it lasted me 10 years and sold it. I have 2010 a Kia Soul that I bought used 2 years ago and now has 101k miles. Overall I think they are reliable budget cars and can last 10+ years if you don’t ride them hard and do regular maintenance.
My 2019 Forte was surprisingly stable at the top speed of 122mph for a good few minutes on the I-10 East in Ehrenberg, AZ! They're really upping the game here y'all!
My 2010 Kia Soul have 130k miles. Not a single issue until this year. I did timing belt and water pump as preventative maintenance and thanks to wonderful roads here in NE I had to replace struts and shocks. It still drive great.
@@scottrick90210I also have a 2010 Kia soul with more miles than theirs, also very few issues. It’s not AMAZING in snow compared to all vehicles, but for a low riding FWD car, if you have decent tires, I’m surprised how well I’m doing this year in the snow.
Great warranty with the Kia cars. 5 year 60K mile bumper to bumper and 10 year 100K Powertrain warranty. The only downside is the depreciation rate as they age.
The trick is to buy a one or two year old model, with not too many miles on it...I bought a 2019 Sorento six months ago...had 22,000 miles on it....paid $21,000 for it, about $11,000 less than it sold for a year earlier.
I have a 2017 kia forte over 70K miles only thing done is oil and filter, one set of tires. has good performance, and get over 40 mpg and on a trip to texas where the roads are flat and smooth got just over 50 mpg from amarillo to iowa park love the car, again no problems
Yea I picked up the forte's older brother the 2017 Optima for 13k with less than 6k miles from my local Ford dealer and this one is loaded with features and in excellent condition
I had a 2011 Forte with the 2.0. Loved it. Solid little car. Put 250,000 on it no issues. Pretty sure I still see another owner it driving around to this day.
There was a comprehensive comparison study in one of the major car mags....of the 24 SUVs tested, the KIA Sorento came in #6 overall...that encouraged me to drive a 2019 Sorento....it was clearly a solid vehicle, great warranty, and the other SUVS that tested out a little higher, cost at least $10,000 more!...I bought the car six months ago, and it seems to be flawless!
I drive a Kia forte 2016 and love it I did have to get a new engine for it because apparently Tyler Kia said that there are recalls on those but at the end of the day I still love it
I have a 2018 Kia Forte. My first car @ 25 years old but it’s been amazing. I’ve only had it for 5 months and bought it used from carmax but I haven’t had a single issue. Great on gas too. I’ve only filled up my tank maybe 5-6 times in 5 months....literally barely uses gas it’s amazing. It’s also a pretty car. Two of my friends went out and bought kia’s after they saw mine lol
I have a 2019 Kia Forte. The transmission is awesome! The transmission on this model is awesome! Stop your needles droning on about the transmission and needles complaints about it. Yea, you gotta find something to be negative about, but the awesome transmission is not a negative issue on this model
I have owned 3 Hyundai / Kia products in my life thus far. Best cars I've ever owned. Never broke down, maintenance was always cheap, never gave me a hard time. They may not have been as smooth or refined as a Toyota, but they definitely were on the same level in reliability.
My coworker bought a 2017 sonata and while I never hear him complain, he's owned it only a year and there's paint peeling off on the roofline. Cheap Korean crap. Optimas from 2012-2013 have a history of exploding. Count your blessings. They have a nice warranty and are sleek looking on the interior but still have a ways to go in terms of reliability.
@@microtransactions2661 okay, in regards to the Optima, that was a recall that KIA actually took responsibility for, which is more than I can say for Toyota and their unintended-acceleration situation (and current CVT failure problem on Corollas). And paint on a car is hardly anything I really care about if the car runs and drives fine. It's amazing what people consider to be 'cheap' when it comes to a car. Meanwhile, you have Honda Accords on the market with good paint jobs, but failing transmissions. Ask yourself: which would you rather deal with?
I love my 2017 KIA Forte. Only had one problem with it. The spark plug coil #3 cylinder went bad but KIA replaced all 4 for free said it was a recall on them. Almost forgot, the trunk latch had to be replaced. This is very common as well. Other than that great running car and if you want speed put it in "SPORT" mode.
There's a recall on the motor like every other Kia and Hyundai cylinder 3 usually is where alot of customers see the bearing failure. The engine either seizes or throws the rod right threw the motor like mine did.
I've owned two Kia vehicles. 2004 Kia Optima and 2013 Kia Forte. The Optima got up to 180,000 miles, so traded it for the Forte. The Forte had 125,000 miles when we gave it to family. Both great vehicles and wouldn't hesitate buying and recommending Kia/Hyundai.
Same bro had my 2017 Elantra with 140k gave to a family friend. Absolutely flawless with basic maintenance. Now have a 2021 Elantra with 82k I Uber alot.
Traded in my 2016 Forte for a 2019 Forte in September. Love these cars. The 2019 is a nice leap in styling and features. Got the manual this time, which has a Mitsubishi made transmission, hope it's one of the good ones.
All of the recent (2014 and newer) Forte 6-speed transmissions (both manual and automatic) were originally Mitsubishi designed, not just the manual. Hyundai and Kia licensed them from Mitsubishi (saving them many millions in R&D) then strengthened and improved them, so they could meet their longer and much more rigorous warranty requirements.
My manual transmission 2015 Forte is doing great. Haven't need to replace the clutch.. One thing I'd advise is check the ground point.. Or do the Big 3 upgrade. KIA doesn't even bother to scrape the paint at ground point..my car drive much smoother once I sanded the paint down to chasis..
I own a 2012 kia forte bought in 2013 when I was 17, im 27 and still driving it. Mines a manuel, never had any issues. Swapped out bulbs and spark plugs that was it. I plan to drive it until it drops!
I got a 2012 kia Sedona love this van lots of power and the 6 speed automatic transmission is good I just did a transmission oil change not a flush just a change. I got just over 65 thousand miles on it. Makes for a good road trips. Love how Kia Hyundai have really come along over the past 15 years
I had to laugh at the "Slip and Slide" power glide! I had one in my old Pontiac many moons ago. You couldn't kill it. It was like the Energizer bunny....Kept going and going....
my dad has this car and its amazing!!! my car got totaled so ive been driving it while i search for a new car and im definitely looking for a kia for myself.
My sister bought her 2017 Forte new in 2016, it has 60k miles on and she likes it. My nephew has an 18 Soul. My Sorento lasted me 120,000 until a pole jumped out and smashed it. They’re great little cars as long as you don’t dog them everyday.

How many miles do you average as an Uber driver?
@@ericjones363 between 800 and 1000 miles a week.
Is in that a 2.0? Looking into one but am worried about mpg on that "big" 4 cilinder.

Yea I picked up the forte's older brother the 2017 Optima for 13k with less than 6k miles from my local Ford dealer and this one is loaded with features and in excellent condition
Wow, that's the best deal I've ever heard.
I had a 2011 Forte with the 2.0. Loved it. Solid little car. Put 250,000 on it no issues. Pretty sure I still see another owner it driving around to this day.
Kia's have actually improved quite a bit from when they first came out. They get a good safety report from the government too.
I drive a Kia forte 2016 and love it I did have to get a new engine for it because apparently Tyler Kia said that there are recalls on those but at the end of the day I still love it
I've 3 KIAs tough long lasting.... hoping to get a Sorento too
I just got a Kia Sorento. I freaking love it.
How’s it going …we twins and life sucks after 3 years lol
I have a 2018 manual transmission Kia Forte and I love it.
I got a 2019 Kia Rio for $15k new, I love it so far!
I got a 2020 one and it’s a great car. People are sleeping on the Rio
Got the same car never had no issue
I have a 2019 Kia Forte. The transmission is awesome!
The transmission on this model is awesome! Stop your needles droning on about the transmission and needles complaints about it. Yea, you gotta find something to be negative about, but the awesome transmission is not a negative issue on this model
It should do more than change gears to be considered good
*Needless
G H Toyota has a problem with white paint as well.
“And here’s some bonus questions and answers”... no wait -
3 videos in 1 day, I guess this was the bonus LOL
I'm actually getting a 2020 Kia Forte GT-Line.
@@robertcabrera6232 Oh nice! Thanks!
@@thundergato84 Awesome. In 3-5 years, I may do the same.
So happy Kia is getting good reviews
I own a 2012 kia forte bought in 2013 when I was 17, im 27 and still driving it. Mines a manuel, never had any issues. Swapped out bulbs and spark plugs that was it. I plan to drive it until it drops!
Just recently got a 2017 Forte5, I love it, glad i got the Scotty co-sign!
That's the Duracell bunny if you are in Europe
Kia Hyundai’s are good cars. Diehard Hyundai owner and never had one issue.
Thomas Cowell Me neither.😁
my dad has this car and its amazing!!! my car got totaled so ive been driving it while i search for a new car and im definitely looking for a kia for myself.
Just bought one same year for 9k, has 50k on it, great car. I've been getting 31mpg back and forth to work, which is mostly city driving.
I'm freaking happy with my Kia
So crazy, I'm interested in buying this exact car/color everything rn. Thanks for this video it was awesome
I love my Kia Soul !!!! Great gas mileage too !!
me too, Kia Soul!
My sister bought her 2017 Forte new in 2016, it has 60k miles on and she likes it. My nephew has an 18 Soul. My Sorento lasted me 120,000 until a pole jumped out and smashed it. They’re great little cars as long as you don’t dog them everyday.
