Anyone has to give Scotty credit for being able to retire a long time ago sippin' mint julips on the beach somewhere, but still ambitious enough to be spending a bunch of his time sorting out OTHER people's car problems
@@scottferris6309 driving a lot for last 15 years .have 2 jobs - construction and delivering papers .making miles - every 2 months abaut 5000 ml. Actually no life - working 😀like crazy .
I am still driving my 1995 Toyota Celica stick shift. It is dependable and uncomplicated to repair. A few exterior dents, but i don't care. The heat, AC , and radio still work, so I'm set. Every once in a while i express my love and gratitude to this car, and i believe it listens...
We used to have a 80 something, Toyota something or other, I don't remember but it was small with four doors and a five speed, and I'm not kidding, that thing had 475 thousand miles on it and the air still worked when we finally had to retire it 😊
Modern toyota are reliable compared to other car manufacturers. But new toyotas will have problems because of more and more technology and sensors in it. Electronic parts tend to fail before mechanical parts. The other reason be smaller engines in new vehicles over stressed with turbos. Simplicity is the key for longer life of an engine. Btw same goes for life 😅. If want a longer happy life keep it simple.
I'm still driving my 1983 Toyota pick-up. Everyone in my neighborhood borrows it for dump runs, moving furniture etc. Bought it brand new in Orange, CA. Only thing on it is a radio. My sons will have to fight over it after we're gone! Haha
Oddly enough, the front seats on all three are the exact same size. The Rav4's I tried actually had more room than the Highlander and Sequoia, the latter of which my head was literally cranked at a 45 degree angle touching the ceiling. Japanese sized cars sold in America. Don't be only 5'10" or you're forced to buy some crappy Ford or beast size GMC or Chevy.
Agree with Toyota products, but '87 Tercel wagon at 550K for 35 years Front Wheel Drive and never got stuck in Montana backcountry is still the king here at 41 mpg.. Keep it simple!
Even if I am a millionaire I will never buy a car from the dealer. I will always buy used Toyotas off the street. Looking cool for other people and being in debt is not for me. Driving my boring camry with 230k miles. looking for a similar on now or a tacoma xrunner lol.
Not many people can inform and entertain in the wonderful way Scotty does. Passing on the lifetime of experience with total honesty is so valuable. If only politicians listened to Scotty the economy would run better in the UK and the USA. The only other mechanic I know with the skill and knowledge of real old reliable vehicles was trained in the British army for a whole year full time before being considered a mechanic. He runs a Toyota Hilux from the late 80s. I wish Scotty trained mechanics so honest skillfull mechanics were easier to find.
2011 Toyota RAV4 Sport with 219K, still going! I change the oil and top it off in between because it'll burn oil for sure, but the only time it's ever left me stranded - is when I forgot to check the oil level like a doofus, low and behold - needed some oil! ;-) I'm determined to drive it until I can't anymore. The car I learned to drive on and my parents gave it to me, 9 years later and thus far, going strong. It does make a shuttering noise occasionally when you accelerate which I'm told is the torque converter and switching gears, but not something that's mechanically wrong. At least, that's what a mechanic told me, lol! If Scotty or anyone knows differently, feel free to share! I'm the opposite of mechanical, sadly. Thank God for this channel.
I had a 98 Camry with 250k miles . Got rid of it only because I bought an 07 Camry maunal transmission for 3 grand and didn't want to pay for registration and insurance on the 98 again.
Are you overweight? The shocks lean driver side while you are no hurry smoking a cigarette. Hello Im in my winter car trying to get to the hospital! In my regular loud Lightning traffic melts. It is like driving an ambulance. I have the sound up loud in case the engine noise doesn't make you move 0.5secs ago.
You can stop the rust by spraying your used motor oil on the underbody with a paint sprayer then drive down some dirt roads the dirt will stick to the oil and create a rust barrier. Learned that from the Canadians, no shop will do it though due to pollution have to do it yourself.
That's because it's a stupid idea. No drip stuff is best and you can do it every 2 years. I'd only do it 3 or 4 times because as you said the dust sticks to it and makes an oily layer protecting it.
Rust Check I think still has outlets to have your auto sprayed it's about 150 to 200 Canadian funds approx per year I recommend doing this around October if you like in Canada USA clean it well under carriage during summer season to ensure all salt and dirt from wheel wells and steel frame if yours has that. Or you can just buy 4 to 6 cans of Rust check oil and spray it yourself.
I have a 2011 FJ Cruiser with the 4.0L V6. 144,000 miles. My wife says she will bury me in it-so it will save $$$ on a casket! Scotty-I definitely WILL be driving it forever!!! 😊
My Jeep Cherokee (all jeep xj’s with a 4.0 engine), has a Toyota transmission, (Jeep Code AW4) (Toyota Code A340E) still shifting like a dream with regular fluid changes. An old American Inline 6 with a Toyota Japanese precision built transmission is a match made in heaven.
Just putting winter tires on the front and not on the back is inviting disaster. Should always run same treads on all four. The rear does much more than just roll as you said Scotty. In winter if you need to brake rather quickly with non winter treads on the rear they are far more likely to slide you around sideways.
I say this too every time he gives this horrible advice. Completely moronic thing to say. That rear end will slide out so quick when there's such a difference in grip from front to back. Terrible advice and he's said it half a dozen times at least.
I'm the lucky owner of a RAV4 III, 2009 D-CAT, and it runs like a swiss Clockwork. And it has a built-in rear view camera which splits the rear view mirror in half. On the left side, you get the image of the backup camera, the right side is normal mirror. It's a real great car, but the transmission often rattles, when in 2000 RPM.
I bought a 2004 Rav4 2 wheel drive w 170k miles . I Paid only $1,000 because the lady was told by her ' mechanics ' that it needed about $1,500 worth of repairs . They lied , it only needed minor repairs so I fixed it and drove it 6 months . But when My friends car broke down , I sold it to her for what I paid and she loves it .
F! even a beat up RAV4 is worth more than $1500. It is why I bought a hybrid, so what, 2-3K is nothing to eventually replace a battery and drive it another 100K.
Snow tires are more about stopping and turning than about getting going. Most all season tires can get you moving, but with limited control. If you have to drive in the snow, not installing snow tires on all wheels is a bad idea!
I have a 2004 Toyota Highlander, original engine & transmission with 203+k miles, exterior & interior, stereo/dials all still in great condition! Oil changes every 5k miles, transmission fluid only needed change once… plan to keep forever!
I have a 2011 Rav 4 (base) regular. Mine was made in Canada. I just got rats a couple months ago. I don't know if I have a "beauty cover"-- will try to figure that out.A timing chain makes so much sense. At 80,000 had to get a new alternator--nothing but routine maintenance other than that. I'm wanting a newer car w/better a/c and back up/side cameras, but thinking of keeping this one as a back up. Now I know I can let it sit ok, I'll definitely keep it. I'll use it when the new one breaks down, I have out-of-town visitors, and as a deterrent to home burglars when I'm not home. Best financial decision I ever made. Friends have gone through 3 cars in the time I've had this one.
When I bought my Toyota, I made certain that it was made in Japan (you can tell by looking at the VIN) and manual trans, manual windows, manual locks, manual everything, no air conditioning.... 16 years later, still no probs. other than I had to replace the stereo speakers and the keys are made of metal that is too soft so had to replace one that wore out. Replaced the brake pads once so far (another plus of a manual trans).
You convinced us to fix our 2011 sienna. 350000 km. We maintained it always. Rolling rolling. 💵the worst was interior lights going on. Turned out the rubber cover on the sliding door buttons was gone. Two new 50 $ switches and the nightmare ended. 😊😊😊😊😊
My mum has a 2006 rav 4, a 4 cyl diesel which has 4X4 differently from the modern base versions, it only had a problem to the fuel pump in almost 18 years
@@1rotimi sunroofs tend to leak water eventually - also, there are about 4 drains surrounding the sunroof that MUST be kept clear of leaves, etc or you will get lots of water in your car interior -
My 05 Highlander has that same setup. The tire pressure monitor is actually reading the tire slip sensors, there is a reset button under the dash, it is not as accurate as actual sensors in the tires but the battery doesn't quit inside a tire
I have a 2012 Mazda 3 owner manual that says 29 psi per tire so I followed it and the tire pressure light kept coming on. Well I looked in the driver door jam and it said 35 psi. That totally fixed the problem. Really like your videos. Keep it going !
THANK YOU--- I've researched these myself since seeing your first review of them and AM buying one myself in spring... your reviews are the only ones I trust implicitly!!!!
My GF's 2011 Toyota Highlander has 272,000 miles. All original except for some minor consumable parts. Rides, runs, stops, and drives better than any new car you care to name. She hasn't made a car payment in over 7 years.
I bought Yaris 1.0L 1SZ-FE (2004, with 165000 km) and have no fault codes on it. but I have some hesitation after fast/sharply pressing the gas pedal (hesitation from idle to 1500-2000 rpm, like if the engine is choking), if I press gas smoothly - the engine normally gains speed and power.... also no lack of power from 2000 to 7000 rpm. what I did: -new spark plugs (Denco) -new air filter -new motor oil 5w30 -checked MAF and IAT sensor (clean like new) -cleaned throttle body (was not so dirty) -cleaned IACV (was clean almost) -cleaned PCV -tested TPS -checked vapor solenoid -tested camshaft position sensor -checked ignition coils (with multimeter) Issue still persists..(
09 through 2012 are THE BEST--- V-6 and real automatic and center diflock... BEST ones made!!! I'm going to buy one next spring.... if I'm still around.. that's what I WANT. They're roomy too- and snappy zippy little engines that run forever-- if that main high pressure oil line is changed!!! There is lots of stuff around to customize one with too , if a person wants them to be individualized!! :) Lots of fun to drive- NO computer Bull....it!!!! and SIMPLE..
I have a 4cyl 2010 RAV with 220,000 miles. Aside from the routine stuff (oil changes, batteries, tires, brakes) and one alternator, it hasn’t required a thing. Oh, and a sway bar just this year🤷🏼♀️but that’s it!
i have a honda fit sport 2009 and bought it used from a cheap dealer. still owe payements on it. and when i got it noticed some things wrong with it. as far as driving it the engine runs really well. i will put it to the test when i drive it to texas in a few weeks. i do like watching your shows. you have a lot of knowledge with cars.
Federal emissions regulations are destroying modern vehicles and making them not only extremely expensive but less reliable. Thats the real reason why we are losing the great V8s and V6s and getting stuck with little 4 cylinders with turbos
I grew up in NJ, 6 miles from Manhattan and born in 1966. The smog from vehicles in the early 1970's was horrendous. Thank God for the catalytic converter! That alone cut back the smog by 70 percent!
I have a 97' 4Runner since 2000 & a 2013 Sienna since 2016. Both are ridiculously durable in every way. 4 Runner has 305k and Sienna has 193k. Trust both to go anywhere anytime. Obviously, no payments so if something needs repair, I gladly cough it up. Kind of depressing knowing I can't count on anything probably newer than 2015...guess I'll be driving really old vehicles until I die...no regrets. Thanks, Toyota!
We own a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. It has proven reliable. Did need frame work, and needs a repair to that, but we live in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Snowing and sleeting today, so I definitely welcome the option to engage the 4WD system. We bought this ridiculously cheap... $1500. Just bought a parts vehicle... for... ready? $200.😯 Rear end is out. May put a new one in if that is all that is wrong with it. No emissions inspection due to age. Sure hope this lasts 500k-1M miles.
I have a 1998 Toyota 4 Runner that has almost 500 miles on it but still running really good. All original and what's funny is when you start the engine, the AC gets colder faster than our new Kia Telluride. LOL
You need to put snow tires on both front and rear, if you only put snow tires on the front you run the risk of losing traction to the rear going around a corner, especially if you happen to be braking around the corner.
Agreed 10000% I say this too every time he gives this terrible advice. I drove a car like that once (wasn't mine) and going around a curve on the highway it looped around. Luckily because of the weather I was only going 40mph and no one was around. I got out and looked and notice the crap all seasons on the back. Scotty has said this at least a half a dozen times AND ITS THE WORST ADVI E HES EVER GIVEN.
@@sassylady2001don't have to be going fast. With snows on the front you have so much more grip, the rear is lighter and has way less grip so it will loop around. It's stupid advice especially for a mechanic of 50 years. No tire shop will ever recommend you do that and will explain why. Go do it and see how you fare.
I have a v 6 Hyundai Veracruise and pull a tractor with a loader and backhoe behind me sometimes at 100. I get good gas milage and can still pass a line of cars. I also put a lot of hard miles on our 2005 Elantra and not once had it in for anything but oil changes and one recall. I drive these things at 100 mph on long trips and the exhaust glows red. I was going west where everyone drives 90 and with three grown adults and all our luggage and gear drove 110 plus. Just one more car that was cheap to buy and last forever.
We love Scotty because he shows us about the cars normal people drive instead of the snobby cars few drive that almost every other yt car video is about.
12:24 I actually agree with you Scott like you I am old school and actually appreciate the non turbo aspirated engine I am not big on all the hoopla of electronics that well would just confuse me on how it all functions with a monitor screen. I like older vehicles because like you said they have less crap on them and are definitely easier to operate and repair mine has old school CD player I like this as I have a collection of 70s classic Rock I like to listen to on CDs plus my dash board in my opinion has a lot more style of appearance than a boring auto that looks like a Tesla too many auto makers are doing the Tesla copy cat design ugly. I appreciate older vehicles with style and class. Some of the really nice ones were actually made in the mid 60s to mid 70s american autos. Generally if I am looking for a good used vehicle I check Facebook marketplace or Craigslist, or Autotrader as i live in Canada. Seems lots of great deals there.
I'm pretty sure that highlander doesn't use those normal valve stem sensors but runs off of wheel speed sensor and is tied into the tire size. So if you put larger/smaller/flat tires that wheel will show variance from the other tires speed. I have an 06 and recently went through this when replacing my tires
toyota needs to make another affordable sporty car like the celica or passao. or mr2. i worked for a toyota years ago. those were all great cars back then fun to drive reliable and sporty. thats what mr toyota was all about. thanks scotty! im going to look at a 2005 subie legacy GT monday morning. its one owner no wrecks. got 56k miles. for 8900$. if its got no oil leaks or rust or other issues im going to jump on it asap. i have one for parts already so half way there lol. wish we had a tech like you here in NY state
I bought a 2020 rav 4 hybrid. Great on gas mileage, but when the 9volt battery in the back conked out (2 months after warranty expired) I realized that they just don’t make ‘em like they used to. I still have my 2000 Corolla
Have a 99 ford E350 375,000 miles . Just had a plug blow out. Helio coil. Or I can get a used 5,4 with 95,000 for $1400.00 the body is like rust free but for over the rear quarter wheel
Gday Scottie , you cant be the Old Toyota and Honda quality , I own a 2015 made in USA toyota Kluger V6 since new, which I never plan on selling, its a great car . But the finish on my Mums 2004 Honda Crv is unbeatable ... It is so sad to see the demise of Honda in Australia , they only sell 5 models here now.
Ok Scotty, have to disagree with you about the cassettes, the bottom line is, you have to take them out of the car when you exit it, never leave magnetic tapes in a plastic shell in a hot car! Sister drove for years in her 77 Cutlass Supreme 350CID, always taking cassettes in her purses when leaving car. Otherwise the 120-150 degrees F heat would’ve vaporized them. I also traveled through the 70s 80s 90s with cassettes and CDs, never leaving them behind when exiting the car.
I plan on buying a used Toyota or Honda in the next 2 months and I have a question. Is it a bad idea to bring my scan tool and plug it in to a prospective purchase? Or is that not allowed?

Old Toyotas are better made than the newer ones. That is so sad.

Yes, so much better!

Wouldn't touch the new ones.

We used to have a 80 something, Toyota something or other, I don't remember but it was small with four doors and a five speed, and I'm not kidding, that thing had 475 thousand miles on it and the air still worked when we finally had to retire it 😊
95 Camry 4spd coupe 2.2L here...214k...
I sold my celica 95' a few years ago, due to rust and it being yellow lol. I miss driving it like no other car.
Haha
Toyota RAV4, Toyota Sequoia, Toyota Highlander
Thanks! 😀
Why is RUclips giving me a "Translate to English" option?? Just informing and confused since they were all capitalized proper names.
@@Schnelllll Translate to English?? 😄
Thx why he can’t say upfront is beyond irritating
1992 Camry wagon, auto Australia. Bought used 1999, dealer installed transmission cooler for towing purposes. Engine & transmission still original, 385,000 k's. Buzzy vibrations,a little loud, but tight, safe,& runs well
2011 Toyota RAV4 Sport with 219K, still going!
All older Toyotas…no surprise.
agreed
I have a 2003 Tundra (bought new) with the 4.7L V8. It's just getting broken in at 108K. Runs flawlessly.
I had one as well. I loved that truck. Only sold it because I ended up getting a smokin deal on a bigger truck. I miss it.
Yeah, a truck V8 is the equivalent to my V6 Camry, too much is just enough. (Sorry U2)
I have a 2012 with the 5.7L it's simply a good truck, period.
I have the same. Expect 3-400k miles with NO problems. 😊
40 years in the business retired bought 98 Camry xle 02 rav4 set for life
I had a 98 Camry with 250k miles . Got rid of it only because I bought an 07 Camry maunal transmission for 3 grand and didn't want to pay for registration and insurance on the 98 again.
I love the XLE trim on a Camry but also have SE since it have EVERY option making it a XLE with useless paddle shifters, dumb idea !!
I have that exact Rav 4. Same color. 2011 and just rolled over 100,000 miles. No major problems with it. I love the dependability. ❤TOYOTA
You can stop the rust by spraying your used motor oil on the underbody with a paint sprayer then drive down some dirt roads the dirt will stick to the oil and create a rust barrier. Learned that from the Canadians, no shop will do it though due to pollution have to do it yourself.
That's too much work and hard to do unless you have a lift. It's 70 bucks to get oil sprayed.
That's because it's a stupid idea. No drip stuff is best and you can do it every 2 years. I'd only do it 3 or 4 times because as you said the dust sticks to it and makes an oily layer protecting it.
Just a dirt layer
Rust Check I think still has outlets to have your auto sprayed it's about 150 to 200 Canadian funds approx per year I recommend doing this around October if you like in Canada USA clean it well under carriage during summer season to ensure all salt and dirt from wheel wells and steel frame if yours has that. Or you can just buy 4 to 6 cans of Rust check oil and spray it yourself.
Never heard of anybody in Canada doing this. I don't spray any crap on the undercarriage and they last for years.
I let mine set for 6 months at a time, 2013, 105 thousand miles, best car ever.
❤❤😊
I’ve got the 4 cylinder version of this RAV 4 and I LOVE it.
I have a 2011 FJ Cruiser with the 4.0L V6. 144,000 miles. My wife says she will bury me in it-so it will save $$$ on a casket! Scotty-I definitely WILL be driving it forever!!! 😊
Meet his son.
Hahahahaha
Hahahahhh... Your wife's so honest 😂❤
I had an 08 FJ. I miss it. It was not a great family vehicle, and it is definitely a rig that NEEDS a backup camera, but MAN, it was fun to drive.
and pay 100 times as much on the lot
My Jeep Cherokee (all jeep xj’s with a 4.0 engine), has a Toyota transmission, (Jeep Code AW4) (Toyota Code A340E) still shifting like a dream with regular fluid changes. An old American Inline 6 with a Toyota Japanese precision built transmission is a match made in heaven.
I bought a new, loaded Rav4 hybrid, 2019 and love it... get great gas mileage and have had no problems. I love my toyota. ❤❤
Fingers cross that its still great 10 years from now without much issues. So far, so good
Same with my '16 Rav4 hybrid XLE, 32 mpg and never a repair.

I use High Performance Tires 24/7, they always do better than any "winter" tire.
I got a 2010 used RAV4 V6, 54k for 8k in 2021. Now has 89k. We just took a 10000 mile road trip. I love it!
...the engine cover cuts also the noise, but mainly protects the hood from heat, take it off and after a while watch the paint peel off the hood 🤭
88 Nissan Maxima, 99 Pontiac Grand Am, 99 Honda Civic, 02 Honda civic… all had sunroofs..Never had a leak.
My 2012 and 2016 Camry's are with too new. If Scotty is alive in a decade I will update.
Our little RaV 4 gave us over 300,000 miles. Was the starter car for 5 teenagers. Great car!
Have a 2015 rav 230000 changed the oil every 10,000 does not use any oil at all runs perfect
Hey Scottie, please do a video on the top older Toyota trucks if you haven't already.
I bought a 2004 Rav4 2 wheel drive w 170k miles .
I Paid only $1,000 because the lady was told by her
' mechanics ' that it needed about $1,500 worth of repairs .
They lied , it only needed minor repairs so I fixed it and drove it 6 months .
But when My friends car broke down , I sold it to her for what I paid and she loves it .
Great deal!
You're a good friend!
F! even a beat up RAV4 is worth more than $1500. It is why I bought a hybrid, so what, 2-3K is nothing to eventually replace a battery and drive it another 100K.
Bought a 95 Corolla manual in 21, at 180k now 230k. In 23 traded my 2006 Subaru for a 2006 Sienna CE. Set for life.
@@Spiritual_DriverAE101 I still miss my 88 Corolla I bought for 1 grand. That thing was a tank. Learned how to drive stick in it.
Classic Rav4, Sequoia and Highlander? NICE. Any one of these would make a solid, reliable daily.
How do u afford to drive SUVs??
My Accord costs me too much!
My 2011 ford escape is still like a brand new car. I love it. Over 100k miles.
You should do a PodCast where people can ask questions. Maybe Superchat. Love listening to you.
He does a live show, podcasts are for day drunks with nothing to do.
Came for Scotty, stayed for the abused beauty cover.
Snow tires are more about stopping and turning than about getting going. Most all season tires can get you moving, but with limited control. If you have to drive in the snow, not installing snow tires on all wheels is a bad idea!
I'm totally exhausted after watching this video for 30 minutes.
😂
lol
Scotty has high energy 😂
But it’s a good kind of tired! 😃👍🏼
😂
Thats why we are a Toyota family!
I have a 2004 Toyota Highlander, original engine & transmission with 203+k miles, exterior & interior, stereo/dials all still in great condition! Oil changes every 5k miles, transmission fluid only needed change once… plan to keep forever!
Just wait until motorcycle get a beauty cover. Scotty will go nuts!
We bought our 2007 CAMRY 3 yrs ago for 8000.00 the sticker price was 40k …fully loaded. Paid cash it is wonderful.
I had a 2008 and blown head gasket just over 110k I bought it with 82k
My mum has a 2006 rav 4, a 4 cyl diesel which has 4X4 differently from the modern base versions, it only had a problem to the fuel pump in almost 18 years
Nissan Xterra is the only Nissan I'd buy...they are strong as heck
All 5 generations of the Toyota Avalon were made in Kentucky, and we all know how GREAT those cars are.
The old lady has a ‘98. Engine never fails. I’m often in wonder about that thing.
2004 Tacoma & 2004 Corolla, both about 180k miles & going strong
My dad didn't like sunroofs either, because they will eventually leak and they aren't safe
What do you mean by leak?
I hate vehicles with sunroof. They always leak. I agree.
Sunroofs are so lame. Real men work outside and aren’t looking to get a tan while driving.
The seals on sunroofs wear and water leaks in. @1rotimi
@@1rotimi sunroofs tend to leak water eventually - also, there are about 4 drains surrounding the sunroof that MUST be kept clear of leaves, etc or you will get lots of water in your car interior -
I've got a 2008 V6 with 200,000 miles. Payed $7000 in 2017. Great car, never had an issue with it. They handle pretty well too.
Yes! Also, I'm glad my 2007 and 2010 Saabs use timing chains instead of those stupid belts! Subaru got smart and went to the chain except for the WRX.
1st & 2nd gen highlanders aren't the sexiest in my opinion but gosh darn reliable!!!
I have a 2015 Tacoma, and my wife has a 2003 Highlander. Both have 150k miles. I think we're doing well.
Keep it.
I Have a 2008 2,0 petrol 152 hp , happy with it. gone 125 000 km just change oil on the diff and gear box :)
Best toyota ever made is the toyota yaris. 2007 yaris with 284k miles. Only thing i replaced was the alternator twice.
I bought Yaris 1.0L 1SZ-FE (2004, with 165000 km) and have no fault codes on it.
but I have some hesitation after fast/sharply pressing the gas pedal (hesitation from idle to 1500-2000 rpm, like if the engine is choking),
if I press gas smoothly - the engine normally gains speed and power.... also no lack of power from 2000 to 7000 rpm.
what I did:
-new spark plugs (Denco)
-new air filter
-new motor oil 5w30
-checked MAF and IAT sensor (clean like new)
-cleaned throttle body (was not so dirty)
-cleaned IACV (was clean almost)
-cleaned PCV
-tested TPS
-checked vapor solenoid
-tested camshaft position sensor
-checked ignition coils (with multimeter)
Issue still persists..(
09 through 2012 are THE BEST--- V-6 and real automatic and center diflock...
Enjoyed this video, Scotty. Thanks.
I had a 2006 Rav 4 V6 and I loved that truck. That thing was fast 💨
I love my '99 4Runner v6. Only 250k miles, and easily another 150-200 left in him.
Federal emissions regulations are destroying modern vehicles and making them not only extremely expensive but less reliable. Thats the real reason why we are losing the great V8s and V6s and getting stuck with little 4 cylinders with turbos
Putting a tiny 4-cylinder turbo in a heavy vehicle never ends well
@@kclefthanded427 "heavy vehicle" define heavy, most cars are 3000 to 4000 pounds, including a RAV4.
I grew up in NJ, 6 miles from Manhattan and born in 1966. The smog from vehicles in the early 1970's was horrendous. Thank God for the catalytic converter! That alone cut back the smog by 70 percent!

Funny how every government has the same ridiculous emission restrictions.
I have an 06 RAV4 . Paid $1000 for it. (from a family member). 4 cyl. It does consume oil. But its very reliable without all that stupid tech.
LOL
My 2007 Toyota yaris hatchback went for 219000 before any issues. Best car I ever owned.
Very very reliable inexpensive transportation.I like the 2008 the best on the RAV4.
I have an over 20 year old Corolla. I've got to say it's an easy car to work on too, compared to my old Infiniti and Hyundai
You need to put snow tires on both front and rear, if you only put snow tires on the front you run the risk of losing traction to the rear going around a corner, especially if you happen to be braking around the corner.
Most of us who drive in the snow, know better than to go fast enough to skid the rear end around.
NEVER brake on ANY corner under ANY condition, F humans are so DUMB.
That just what they want to tell you all tire shop will say that lol
I have a v 6 Hyundai Veracruise and pull a tractor with a loader and backhoe behind me sometimes at 100. I get good gas milage and can still pass a line of cars. I also put a lot of hard miles on our 2005 Elantra and not once had it in for anything but oil changes and one recall. I drive these things at 100 mph on long trips and the exhaust glows red. I was going west where everyone drives 90 and with three grown adults and all our luggage and gear drove 110 plus. Just one more car that was cheap to buy and last forever.

@scottykilmer , I do not see a problem in timing belts. Its easier to maintain!

I've found that the best cars are built by Mattel. You can get them for under $2, they never break down, and you don't have to insure them.
