But fear not dear friends; my 'idiot proof' way of remembering 'all the various neck positions' will have you mastering them in no time. And remember, barre chords are vitally important in all genres of playing so there's no running away from them. Download my free 'idiot proof' paperwork and get stuck in. You'll be glad you did. Rob, what another brilliant, brilliant lesson! I’m a silver haired guitar player who started playing about 4 years ago. I have a neurological condition which makes playing difficult but it does help fingers keep going but my condition makes me forgetful and so lessons like yours, conducted at this pace with these resources really, really help. Thank you so much. 😊
Thanks
Cheers Donal. 👍🏻😎
thanks, Rob!
so clear & simple, and so incredibly helpful.
Great lesson Rob. On behalf of the ‘boys and girls’ I didn’t know existed and who can now come out to play, thank you.
Rob this is the first time the caged system made sense to me. You make this so simple,
. 75 years old started learning to play 3 years ago. Greeting and Thanks from oklahoma usa
I've avoided barre chords for years, Rob. I gave up. Your tip about pulling back on the main body of the guitar is just amazing! All these years I've been struggling and this single tip has made me enthusiastic about getting to grips with them again. They've become easier. My wrist was breaking pressing on the strings and only getting a horrible muted sound. Thank you so much!
Thanks Rob, just loving these Masterclasses, and your method of teaching makes it all really enjoyable.
At last, I've found somebody who makes sense. Rob I can actually grasp what your saying. I'm not daft after all !
Thank you 👍
Brilliant lesson. Thank you, Rob.
I love the Girls And Boys, and C,D,E so simple but life changing!! Thanks
A good instructor like you makes all the difference.
A simple, structured approach to learning the CAGED system, much appreciated Rob 💯yet again.. Happy days 😎
Thanks Rob, great stuff.
Fennah Rob, I appreciate you, for this one and all. Happy to be one of you subcribers! Thank you very much.
Thanks Rob, lots to look at and get my head around. Awesome. Jeffnz
Master class
Many thanks for the lessons you provide Rob. You have a way of delivering the key points with a simplicity that is beyond compare. I absolutely love watching your videos.
Yet another brilliant lesson, thank you. Just a thought, would you please consider doing a lesson on Mark Knopfler's Why Worry, lovely piece of music?
Thank u for sharing and showing this knowledge!
Thank you Rob, you’ve made it easy to understand with some great humour inbetween😁. It is now or never with these barre chords! Practice, practice and more practice!
Great lesson Rob, love your fun easy n simple teaching style
Another great lesson, and another fantastic paperwork I have downloaded to accompany the lesson. I have learnt so much in this one lesson. Thank you so much. Look forward to your tutorials. PS. I watched the 5 faces of chords,so funny😂
Excellent and I will now try to do all you teach 👍🤞
Magic Thanks Rob
Great job ! Well done 🎶🎵🎶
Funtastic, as always
Looking forward to your class ❤ fun too 😊
Thanks!
You are an excellent teacher.
I just sent this video to a co worker and told him you explain barr chords perfectly and I'm fixing to watch again with ax in hand ✋️
Wow! You have made things so simple and clear, it's not so scary now, thank you. 💡🎸
Brilliant Rob thankyou very helpful
Another great class Rob. This makes a lot of sense for me in sorting out chords quickly and help to learn the fretboard by attaching chords to frets instead of trying to learn it parrot fashion.
Some stuff in some of the classes I find physically difficult to achieve but I'll get there it'll be worth it.
Thanks again pal. 👍
24:10 -- "...eventually, with practice, and with a decent guitar..." You're not kidding!! My first guitar was a Fender CD-60S. $200 brand new. They should not be allowed to sell guitars like that to beginners!
Eventually I bought an $850 Taylor Academy 12e. I was **BLOWN AWAY** by how much easier barre chords were to play on the Taylor vs. the Fender. I *never* successfully played a barre chord on the Fender -- not even once! The first time I tried a barre-chord on the Taylor, it was like *magic!* A *million* times easier. You don't have to spend $4,000 on a guitar, but *do* spend $750 to $1,000 -- it really is the difference between night and day. A cheap guitar can *really* hold you back. And pay the $100 to have it professionally set up -- where they get the action and the intonation set correctly. Worth every penny, that!
Thanks again Rob!! I’ll be working hard on this section…🎸🎸🎸
Great that Rob!
Great lesson !!
Thanks Rob. Those small tips are what makes all the difference.
Fantastic Rob, the sort of theory lesson I understand. You are brilliant at emphasising what we need to know. I still struggle massively with bar chords, always buzzing. I think my string height is good, going to try a beginner set of strings as mine are a bugger to press.
Thank YOU for sharing your knowledge, and blessing us with your experience!!
That was very helpful. Many thanks.
Thanks from Australia Rob!!
Well done!
Rob, brilliant lesson as always, Thank you🙏 Can you advise what model your Taylor guitar is please?
Bob don't know if someone has already pointed out that on page 3 of the paperwork
the diagram for the notes of the 5th string C# and Db are out of position, should be a fret higher.
Good spot; thank you. I’ll change it. 👍🏻
Hi Rob , another brill lesson , the 3rd,5th &7th fret/ girls and boys is brilliant , is it worthwhile using my 2nd ,3r & 4th finger for open chords so barre chords will be easier ? Lol easier said than done , I’m really struggling using 2nd ,3rd & 4th for an open g ( I’ve used 1 2 &3 for years & now I regret that ). Thanks again
You need to use fingers 2 3 and 4 when playing G as you often need finger 2 free to add little bits whist holding the chord down. Makes sense to do not that way if you can. 👍🏻
Barre -- etymology: French, from Medieval Latin barra
The latin word barra translates to bar in english
In France during the Renaissance someone asked a lute player, "What do you call that thing you do putting your finger across all the strings like that?"
Interestingly, the french word barre translates to rod in english.
The name Barre chords sounds better than Rod chords.
Many thx
Thank you, thank you as always. I think you have a boo boo on page 3 / 5th string, box 3 & 4 should be reversed. C, then C# after B. Sean
Hi Rob, great lesson as always thanks. Just a point, on your chart are the 3rd and 4th fret notes transposed on the A string?
If your playing chords based on the E shape your 6th string barre gives you the root note of that particular chord. If a chord is based on the A shape then it’s the 5th string that gives you the root note. I.e. E shape with barre at 3rd Fret is now the chord G.
The A shape with barre at the 3rd fret is now the chord C.
Hope that helps. Look at the diagram on page 3 too, this gives you all the root notes on 6th and 5th stings. 👍🏻
Hi Rob, still a bit confused. Understand the E shape, and root notes at 1, 3, 5, 7 etc for F,G,A and B chords on the 6th string.
On the 5th string, usind A chord shape, the barre will be on 2nd, 3rd, 5th etc for B, C and D chords.
On sheet 3 of your download, the 3rd fret of the 5th string is showing C# or Db!
Am I seeing things or talking out of my Lancashire backside😂
Brilliantly explained Rob as per normal, just a query , how do they become 7th ,how do they get that name !! Cheers Rob
Rob. I've a few, question's ld like your thought's on. How is the best way to get response from you straight away. Cheers.
Email is best Mike.
are 3rd and 4th positions reversed for the 5th string notes? thanks
👌👌😎
HOW DO I PRINT OUT THE TABS
I like Girls And Boys....err I mean, I like the mnemonic. Very handy
Girls And Boys? What if the 3rd fret of the E string identifies as a Boy? Or even an And?
Ohh, good point. No idea. 🥸
songs?
?
This vid is showing people how to play barre chords which they can then use to play thousands of great songs in all genres. 👍🏻
