To those of you hearing this symphony for the first time: you are extraordinarily lucky. I’ve heard this music for the first time over 65 years ago, and this is the best rendition I’ve ever heard. The conducting, the skill of the musicians, and the recording balance allow me to hear things I’d not heard before, or have not heard with such exquisite subtlety. Hard for me to imagine a better performance than this one.

I suppose that's a valid point. I figured that when people say classical music, they refer to baroque, classical and romantic eras of music but I'd like to think that that is a small misconception that people have. I pointed it out because I think that classical symphonies are a lot less interesting than romantic ones but that's just me.
Many of these things depend strongly on the recording, the microphone etc. If you are live in the auditorium it could be less intense, either by having more distance, or just receiving other noises from other guests or so. During pandemic they have shown, the concert hall sounds differently, depending on whether there are people inside or not. People reflect the sound less than empty chairs.
Fun fact: the cymbal plays only ONE note in the entire symphony. (I know the percussionist also have to play a lot of notes on other instruments, especially in this symphony)
The rumors are: The tuba player of Dvoraks orchestra slept with his wife. Dvorak punished him with only 14 notes to play so the tuba player has nothing to do BUT has still to come to the rehearsals and concerts. Because otherwise he would be lets say practising his tonging.

Few ever reach such musicality so just be glad the great composers composed what they did. And this is indeed one of the greatest symphonies ever written and never gets stale.
At least a couple of times a week -- more during the spring lockdown -- I search RUclips for "concert" or "recital," setting the criteria at "more than 20 minutes" and "today," and always find something interesting to listen to -- everything from American college students and faculty to British brass bands to the world's great orchestras.

This is my first youtube comment. Long time ago, I went to study in the US by myself from China when i was a kid and heard this performance live at school. Absolutely stunned, shocked and fell in love with this piece. I cried at the concert and still want to cry everytime I listen to it. Later I found out the background of the composer and this symphony. I thought it must be the power of music that connects me with the composer and with everyone who listens to it...now Im listening to the performance when my daughter is sleeping next to me..life goes on and I cant wait to show the music to her. I am very grateful that i got to know this symphony. Among all the music pieces i love, this one is special as the interpretation of the symphony is very personal.
Fun fact Dvořák wrote this when he lived in US (he was Czech-during his live Czechia was part of Austria-Hungary). It's probybly named From The New World because the US was "new world" for him.

You are not alone... this is the top pick for home sick and other arousing mix feels, especially glued many people who are new in a place or culture or any particular environment. NY Ph. brought this piece to North Korea a few years ago... hope it will help to melt away the had cold hearts. This work is absolutely a great starter for kids. I am also stunned at the quality of this Frankfurt artists...even villages of small local areas in all corners of germany, can easily get a world class performance in seconds! All too often conductors burn through this symphony like they've got to be somewhere else as soon as the bows are over. But THIS rendition... Orozco-Estrada gives us time to hear those bohemian folk-song fragments and yearning melodies in all their beauty. And he allows each theme to stand out in its own colour before elegantly giving way to the next. There's no muddiness or haste - just measured perfection, played by a superb orchestra. Huge credit to the sound engineers on this recording too... exquisite balance.
Antonin Dvorák is a composer who was born in Bohemia on September 8, 1841. Son of an innkeeper, he showed his inclination for music at a early age and began to learn from the local organist teacher. The parents contradicted his desire to pursue a musical career. For a certain period he lived painfully as a violinist in second-rate orchestras. In 1862, he managed to get a place as a violinist at newly formed National Opera. So he could listen to the music of Smetana where Czech nationalism was revealed and became the musical thread of his vocation. He met Brahms who, like his friend, turned heaven and earth so the doors of success might be opened for him. Thanks to their help, editors soon competed for Dvorák’s compositions which were included in he programs of the greatest orchestral directors (Richter, Bülov, Listz, etc.).He makes several trips, especially to England to directed his works. He was appointed to high positions in the musical hierarchy (Professor of Composition, Director of Prague Conservatory, Director of the National Conservatory of New York, etc.) His compositions are very close to those developed by Smetana by Slavic inspiration, by Brahms due to the classicism of form and by Shubert thanks to the spontaneity of melodic inspiration. He composed symphonic music, operas, chamber music, etc. Dies in Prague on May 1, 1904. This symphony, although having sometimes a very strong musical force, is interspersed with moments of extreme lyricism of astonishing beauty. As I mentioned before, varied influences intersect but in an amazing way, since their composition are made in admirable way. Only a composer of incredible sensibility can create a magnificent symphony that brilliantly manages to encompass such diverse musical origins. I remember just one thing about what we learnt about this particular piece, and that is that that heart-rending piece in the second movement was his response to the misery and poverty he saw on a Native American reservation
The conductor has the warmest smile I've ever seen, he looks so happy. I love how he looks at the orchestra and nods in congratulation between movements. And what a performance!
35:20 Principal 2nd's smile is great. I love doing that too, make eye contact with friends in different seats while in our favorite spots of the music. God. The camaraderie in orchestra can be something else. There's nothing better than playing music surrounded by people you love being with and at the same time making a hall fill with some of the best sounds you know you'll ever hear come out of that little wooden box on your shoulder. I mean, what more could you ask for? It's the best feeling in the world. It's the reason I live and breathe. It's harder now at university because everyone's so introverted and I feel like we all want to be friends but don't know how. It's lonely that way. It's weird not having friends that you know you can honestly say you love them. 36:51 for me is incredibly emotional. Partly because of the bittersweetness of the music itself and the fact that I know how incredible I would feel playing that in an orchestra. There's just times when you're playing where your emotions are so invested in the music and whatever feelings the music conveys are now yours. It's heroic and strong and so happy that you're sad. When I was in youth orchestra, we had several pieces we played over the two years I was there which made me feel like this. That's why I play in orchestra and why it aches to not have it right now. I'm sure many of us feel this way, whether you're a musician or a concertgoer. Here's to hoping this coming semester will stay at school and soon covid-19 will be over for good. Till then, youtube and my best memories will do. I miss high school.

It means there are more alternatives today. Of course, for some people Miley Cirus has more attraction than Dvorak. But is this decline in culture ? As a trumpeter I must say I can't help but air finger the note whenever I hear the New world motif ( as I like to call it ) However the less fun part is when My lips have PTSD of hitting the top C sharp at fortisimo after 40 minutes of playing. I am passionate about Tchaikovsky's symphonies and I thought I would never find one that would touch me as deeply as the Russian composer knows how to do. But this New World symphony has shaken my foundations and emotionally in the musical sense has shaken me out of them. Resoundingly, this Dvorak symphony is definitely first rate, incredibly well put together with a cadence and beauty that carries you through to its finale with great harmony. Tchaikovsky himself would have enjoyed listening to it. I am sure of it.
In freshman year of high school I spent hours and hours listening to this beautiful masterpiece; so much that I have memorized the whole thing and whistle along to it as far as my vocal range can manage. Now, a year later, I'm sitting at my desk listening and watching this beauty because I can't tear myself away and do my homework instead. I would die to see this symphony performed in real life.. thanks to this insanely talented orchestra and conductor for providing such a joyful outlet of happiness for me.

I love Andrés Orozco-Estrada's huge beaming smile at the end when the music rises to the triumphant crescendo, pulling the entire 4th movement and the symphony itself together. Also love the fact that the audience sat in absolute stunned silence for a long moment after the last notes faded away, before they could pull themselves together to rise in applause. THAT marks a moving performance of a great piece.
Yes I do agree with this.... I have heard total silence from an audience following a near once in a life performance... I have seen a conductor look over his shoulder to find out why the audience is not clapping after the final note. It is because the audience is stunned, emotionally incapable of response, until after some seconds to recover. This is in my experience a most rare phenomenon.

I would love to hear your opinion on the performance of the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Carlo Maria Guilini in 1974. Then it was still called the Fifth symphony. Just makes me even more grateful to the fact that I go to a school where it is normal to know Dvorak, Beethoven and Bach. Where people are humming symphonies and singing chorals. Where you can always hear music from somewhere. I don‘t know what I‘d be doing without it.

Thank you all for the wonderful music . It is the best I have heard in the past 60 years. If you are in Downtown Prague,walk towards the river and you will find a street car stop. Take it for 2 or 3 stop going South. When u get off, you will see a high hill. Walk up the hill for 10-15 minutes, you will see a church and next to it, there is a court yard with 10-15 grave yards. You will find Dvorak grave yard. There was no one and I was alone in front of his grave. Quite an experience.

Ok, so this is now my all time favourite performance of this symphony. The final moments of the first movement are so thrilling the hairs on my neck stood up and I shed tears. The flute solos were heartbreakingly beautiful. Simply the best!

This is one of those rare pieces where every moment, every phrase, every note seems to grow organically from the music that preceded it. The most complete work I know of. And this orchestra and conductor! Europe, your musical riches make those of us less fortunate weep with envy.
I'm a new classical music listener, but old music enthuasist.. I cried a bit today. Today for the first time I really listened and noticed each players contribution to the sound. Like, how have I been ignoring all these so talented players and just took the classical sound for granted. Without thinking where it comes from and how the sound is made. This for sure sounds very silly, but it is my experience today...

I felt the same way. I ventured into classical music through film music some years ago. From Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard to Antonin Dvorak, Beethoven, Holst, Mendelsohn, Wagner ... But I liked that Dvorak ninth from the start. Believe me, you will find many many more. And the biggest thing is to experience the whole thing live.
I cried every time I listened to this symphony. It’s so powerful and yet so nostalgic. I listened to it when I was a teenager and later I got to listen to it live in the San Francisco symphony hall.
I was still in high school when my father bought Vaclav Neumann's performance of this Symphony on vinyl. That was in mid 80s. It was transcending. Ever since I considered that performance THE benchmark - probably teenage subjectivism, as with all "first impression, definitive impression". Yesterday I turned 50 and you tube recommended me this Orozco-Estrada interpretation. What a gift, what extraordinary, history-making resolve, quelle joie-de-vivre da capo al fine!! It makes me so happy to see Andres shine like this. I knew him back in Colombia, 30 years ago, when he conducted a small student orchestra I was part of. He was fantastic back then... but none of us could have imagined what he would become! I still remember how much fun it was to play under his direction. We were playing Haydn's Toy Symphony and some Purcell... he really made us love that music
One of the few orchestral piece that I remember precicely where and when I first heard it and how it felt and what I thought of it. Many, many years ago, somewhere between the dusk and dawn, in a tent, in a forest in the middle of nowhere, keeping the fireplace burning, listening to night radio on a very basic device. It was cold outside but warm and cozy inside, I was bored out of my mind and quite tired, but this music just blew away any drowsiness I had felt. I didn't listen from the very beginning, since I just randomly changed the channel, so I remember listening very keenly so as not to miss the announcer tell me what work it was I had listened to. I just knew I would get hold of this music and listen to it many many times over after I'd get back home, if I just knew what it was. And so I have.

WOW! I've listened to a lot of performances of this symphony, but in this recording, not only are the performances very good but the sound recording, the clarity of the recording is exquisite. You can listen to each individual instrument and each section with such clarity and then altogether with then ensemble, it's amazing. I'm amazed by this recording! Well done to the sound engineer, etc, that contributed to this. I feel like we often praise the performers but placing the mics and mixing the recording just right is such demanding and tedious work but in the end so important, these other people don't get recognised as they deserve! Also, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Colombian conductor... Can we acknowledge at last that people from different places in the world, different cultures, contribute so much to Music and everywhere in Humanity? Such heights in human performance would not be possible without it!
The late Classical and Romantic composers often segued to the relative key (here in Mvt I, from A minor to G Major). This genius went from A minor to G minor to G Major. Bravo!
Being a part of a performance like this is why you become a musician. The music itself, is eternal, beautiful beyond words. Estrada's involvement with the music, and engagement with his musicians is why they put their heart and soul into the performance, and you can see and hear it, from beginning to end. They nailed it, and they know it, and he applauds them for it. True leadership, and it motivates people to give their very best. This is my fourth watching of this video, which was very well done, and won't be the last. I wish the FRS and Maestro Estrada the best, and look forward to more.
Couldn't agree more. Being part of an orchestra is an incredible experience and one of the best in my life. I'm far from being a professional but found a symphony orchestra 2 years ago with a professional conductor and players who never lost their passion for orchestra playing despite having other jobs. I'm so grateful I get to be a part of it and I hope we get to pick up our instruments anytime soon. It's heartbreaking that we had to cancel 5 concerts in the last year. I miss it.

My favorite part of this symphony is at 43:57, when the same chorale that opened the beautiful 2nd movement (13:01) returns in a completely different and totally epic fashion.
The cyclic nature of this symphony is prevalent throughout. That’s just one of numerous examples, the clearest one being the primary theme of the first movement appears throughout all four movements.
Andres Orozco-Estrada is probably the best conductor of our time! I love his passion and personality! And this orchestra is amazing... Also I consider it one of the absolute best!
Heard a part of this symphony in One Piece decades ago when I was a teenager and been listening to it since then. It's been my best companion through my university years and my job and has a special place. May God bless Dvorák
I consider myself very picky and can be tough critic but this performance is very beautiful and also refreshing. Both orchestra and conductor did superb job and aside from Karajan this is the best performance I’ve ever watched!
I feel the same way you do. And we did fly to Frankfurt to see them perform live. And then we returned a year or so later to see them again. We’re now thinking of going again next year. They are, hands down, my favorite orchestra.
This is the first symphony I played after Almost 30 year hiatus from the violin. I am a singer and focused on that. Now, the community orchestra in my area has been a big part of my musical life.

I'll gladly sit corrected by commenters who know Dvořák's repertoire far better than I ever will, but I remain convinced after all the performances of this symphony I've both heard and seen that the composer aimed to do something very different with the final movement. He succeeded. The results are ageless.
A lot of new delicious sounds in this version conducted by Andrés Orozco-Estrada. Love the tempo, quite perfect. I have listened many others and now this is my favourite. An this Orchestra, yes with capitals ORCHESTRA is truly outstanding. I can observe other musicians in the horns. Clara Andrada is not any more with her flute. But the sound is so great. Congratulations to everyone!!!

The New World Symphony is one that I never get tired of hearing, or playing. There's a reason it's such a war horse. It's simply a great piece of music, and I believe that even non-musicians recognize that fact. Magnificent performance here. Such a superb sound, and brilliantly played.

I totally agree. I've heard this masterpiece so many times from different orchestras. This is probably the best of all. Not fast, not slow, perfect timing beautiful details. And it's probably silly for others, but I burst in tears quite a few times times during the four movements. The finale is just overwhelming

The second movement is one of the great musical narratives. The sequence of events tells an amazing story of delight and transformation. It is hard to imagine that Dvorak's greatest moments of inspiration took place on 17th Street and Second Avenue.
Hey Frankfurt Radio Symphony, this was the best playing of Dvořák's 9th that I have ever heard, this video is awesome! I especially like the flute and clarinet solos in the first movement, as they are very clear and articulate in the ways they should be. I’ve heard this music for the first time over 65 years ago, and this is the best rendition I’ve ever heard. The conducting, the skill of the musicians, and the recording balance allow me to hear things I’d not heard before, or have not heard with such exquisite subtlety.

Many of these things depend strongly on the recording, the microphone etc. If you are live in the auditorium it could be less intense, either by having more distance, or just receiving other noises from other guests or so. During pandemic they have shown, the concert hall sounds differently, depending on whether there are people inside or not. People reflect the sound less than empty chairs.

This is my first youtube comment. Long time ago, I went to study in the US by myself from China when i was a kid and heard this performance live at school. Absolutely stunned, shocked and fell in love with this piece. I cried at the concert and still want to cry everytime I listen to it. Later I found out the background of the composer and this symphony. I thought it must be the power of music that connects me with the composer and with everyone who listens to it...now Im listening to the performance when my daughter is sleeping next to me..life goes on and I cant wait to show the music to her. I am very grateful that i got to know this symphony. Among all the music pieces i love, this one is special as the interpretation of the symphony is very personal.

Fun fact Dvořák wrote this when he lived in US (he was Czech-during his live Czechia was part of Austria-Hungary). It's probybly named From The New World because the US was "new world" for him.

All too often conductors burn through this symphony like they've got to be somewhere else as soon as the bows are over. But THIS rendition... Orozco-Estrada gives us time to hear those bohemian folk-song fragments and yearning melodies in all their beauty. And he allows each theme to stand out in its own colour before elegantly giving way to the next. There's no muddiness or haste - just measured perfection, played by a superb orchestra.
Huge credit to the sound engineers on this recording too... exquisite balance.

Antonin Dvorák is a composer who was born in Bohemia on September 8, 1841. Son of an innkeeper, he showed his inclination for music at a early age and began to learn from the local organist teacher. The parents contradicted his desire to pursue a musical career. For a certain period he lived painfully as a violinist in second-rate orchestras. In 1862, he managed to get a place as a violinist at newly formed National Opera. So he could listen to the music of Smetana where Czech nationalism was revealed and became the musical thread of his vocation. He met Brahms who, like his friend, turned heaven and earth so the doors of success might be opened for him. Thanks to their help, editors soon competed for Dvorák’s compositions which were included in he programs of the greatest orchestral directors (Richter, Bülov, Listz, etc.).He makes several trips, especially to England to directed his works. He was appointed to high positions in the musical hierarchy (Professor of Composition, Director of Prague Conservatory, Director of the National Conservatory of New York, etc.) His compositions are very close to those developed by Smetana by Slavic inspiration, by Brahms due to the classicism of form and by Shubert thanks to the spontaneity of melodic inspiration. He composed symphonic music, operas, chamber music, etc. Dies in Prague on May 1, 1904.
This symphony, although having sometimes a very strong musical force, is interspersed with moments of extreme lyricism of astonishing beauty. As I mentioned before, varied influences intersect but in an amazing way, since their composition are made in admirable way. Only a composer of incredible sensibility can create a magnificent symphony that brilliantly manages to encompass such diverse musical origins. I remember just one thing about what we learnt about this particular piece, and that is that that heart-rending piece in the second movement was his response to the misery and poverty he saw on a Native American reservation

35:20 Principal 2nd's smile is great. I love doing that too, make eye contact with friends in different seats while in our favorite spots of the music. God. The camaraderie in orchestra can be something else. There's nothing better than playing music surrounded by people you love being with and at the same time making a hall fill with some of the best sounds you know you'll ever hear come out of that little wooden box on your shoulder. I mean, what more could you ask for? It's the best feeling in the world. It's the reason I live and breathe. It's harder now at university because everyone's so introverted and I feel like we all want to be friends but don't know how. It's lonely that way. It's weird not having friends that you know you can honestly say you love them.
36:51 for me is incredibly emotional. Partly because of the bittersweetness of the music itself and the fact that I know how incredible I would feel playing that in an orchestra. There's just times when you're playing where your emotions are so invested in the music and whatever feelings the music conveys are now yours. It's heroic and strong and so happy that you're sad. When I was in youth orchestra, we had several pieces we played over the two years I was there which made me feel like this. That's why I play in orchestra and why it aches to not have it right now. I'm sure many of us feel this way, whether you're a musician or a concertgoer.
Here's to hoping this coming semester will stay at school and soon covid-19 will be over for good. Till then, youtube and my best memories will do. I miss high school.

Ein bisschen sehr viel Angeberei. Zumal es Nachwuchsprobleme gibt und die Qualität manchmal besser sein könnte. Wahre Errungenschaft zeichnet sich dadurch aus, dass sie nicht erwähnt werden muss, besonders nicht vor nicht deutschen. Die Probleme sind hier nicht nur demographisch, ich selbst habe das Desinteresse und die „Kulturlosigkeit“ in so manchem Sinn meiner Mitschüler erlebt. Hieran müssen wir als Gemeinschaft arbeiten auch wenn das was besteht zweifelsfrei sehr schön ist. Doch niemand muss erwähnen das es in Japan eine rege qualifizierte Musiklandschaft gibt, es zeigt sich einfach.

I am passionate about Tchaikovsky's symphonies and I thought I would never find one that would touch me as deeply as the Russian composer knows how to do. But this New World symphony has shaken my foundations and emotionally in the musical sense has shaken me out of them. Resoundingly, this Dvorak symphony is definitely first rate, incredibly well put together with a cadence and beauty that carries you through to its finale with great harmony. Tchaikovsky himself would have enjoyed listening to it. I am sure of it.
In freshman year of high school I spent hours and hours listening to this beautiful masterpiece; so much that I have memorized the whole thing and whistle along to it as far as my vocal range can manage. Now, a year later, I'm sitting at my desk listening and watching this beauty because I can't tear myself away and do my homework instead. I would die to see this symphony performed in real life.. thanks to this insanely talented orchestra and conductor for providing such a joyful outlet of happiness for me.

I love Andrés Orozco-Estrada's huge beaming smile at the end when the music rises to the triumphant crescendo, pulling the entire 4th movement and the symphony itself together. Also love the fact that the audience sat in absolute stunned silence for a long moment after the last notes faded away, before they could pull themselves together to rise in applause. THAT marks a moving performance of a great piece.
Yes I do agree with this.... I have heard total silence from an audience following a near once in a life performance... I have seen a conductor look over his shoulder to find out why the audience is not clapping after the final note. It is because the audience is stunned, emotionally incapable of response, until after some seconds to recover. This is in my experience a most rare phenomenon.

I would love to hear your opinion on the performance of the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Carlo Maria Guilini in 1974. Then it was still called the Fifth symphony. Just makes me even more grateful to the fact that I go to a school where it is normal to know Dvorak, Beethoven and Bach. Where people are humming symphonies and singing chorals. Where you can always hear music from somewhere. I don‘t know what I‘d be doing without it.

Thank you all for the wonderful music . It is the best I have heard in the past 60 years. If you are in Downtown Prague,walk towards the river and you will find a street car stop. Take it for 2 or 3 stop going South. When u get off, you will see a high hill. Walk up the hill for 10-15 minutes, you will see a church and next to it, there is a court yard with 10-15 grave yards. You will find Dvorak grave yard. There was no one and I was alone in front of his grave. Quite an experience.

Ok, so this is now my all time favourite performance of this symphony. The final moments of the first movement are so thrilling the hairs on my neck stood up and I shed tears. The flute solos were heartbreakingly beautiful. Simply the best!

This is one of those rare pieces where every moment, every phrase, every note seems to grow organically from the music that preceded it. The most complete work I know of. And this orchestra and conductor! Europe, your musical riches make those of us less fortunate weep with envy.

I'm a new classical music listener, but old music enthuasist.. I cried a bit today. Today for the first time I really listened and noticed each players contribution to the sound. Like, how have I been ignoring all these so talented players and just took the classical sound for granted. Without thinking where it comes from and how the sound is made. This for sure sounds very silly, but it is my experience today...

I felt the same way. I ventured into classical music through film music some years ago. From Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard to Antonin Dvorak, Beethoven, Holst, Mendelsohn, Wagner ...
But I liked that Dvorak ninth from the start. Believe me, you will find many many more.
And the biggest thing is to experience the whole thing live.

I was still in high school when my father bought Vaclav Neumann's performance of this Symphony on vinyl. That was in mid 80s. It was transcending. Ever since I considered that performance THE benchmark - probably teenage subjectivism, as with all "first impression, definitive impression". Yesterday I turned 50 and you tube recommended me this Orozco-Estrada interpretation. What a gift, what extraordinary, history-making resolve, quelle joie-de-vivre da capo al fine!! I wish I was there, to simply levitate. It is my new benchmark for this masterpiece. Forever grateful to Master Orozco-Estrada! Thank you RUclips, it seems you finally know me. And my sincere compliments to all commentators before me - I hear you.

It makes me so happy to see Andres shine like this. I knew him back in Colombia, 30 years ago, when he conducted a small student orchestra I was part of. He was fantastic back then... but none of us could have imagined what he would become! I still remember how much fun it was to play under his direction. We were playing Haydn's Toy Symphony and some Purcell... he really made us love that music

One of the few orchestral piece that I remember precicely where and when I first heard it and how it felt and what I thought of it. Many, many years ago, somewhere between the dusk and dawn, in a tent, in a forest in the middle of nowhere, keeping the fireplace burning, listening to night radio on a very basic device. It was cold outside but warm and cozy inside, I was bored out of my mind and quite tired, but this music just blew away any drowsiness I had felt. I didn't listen from the very beginning, since I just randomly changed the channel, so I remember listening very keenly so as not to miss the announcer tell me what work it was I had listened to. I just knew I would get hold of this music and listen to it many many times over after I'd get back home, if I just knew what it was. And so I have.

WOW! I've listened to a lot of performances of this symphony, but in this recording, not only are the performances very good but the sound recording, the clarity of the recording is exquisite. You can listen to each individual instrument and each section with such clarity and then altogether with then ensemble, it's amazing. I'm amazed by this recording!
Well done to the sound engineer, etc, that contributed to this. I feel like we often praise the performers but placing the mics and mixing the recording just right is such demanding and tedious work but in the end so important, these other people don't get recognised as they deserve!
Also, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Colombian conductor... Can we acknowledge at last that people from different places in the world, different cultures, contribute so much to Music and everywhere in Humanity? Such heights in human performance would not be possible without it!

The late Classical and Romantic composers often segued to the relative key (here in Mvt I, from A minor to G Major). This genius went from A minor to G minor to G Major. Bravo!
That is also thanks to Dvorák incorporating African American and Native American musical characteristics into his compositions
Being a part of a performance like this is why you become a musician. The music itself, is eternal, beautiful beyond words. Estrada's involvement with the music, and engagement with his musicians is why they put their heart and soul into the performance, and you can see and hear it, from beginning to end. They nailed it, and they know it, and he applauds them for it. True leadership, and it motivates people to give their very best. This is my fourth watching of this video, which was very well done, and won't be the last. I wish the FRS and Maestro Estrada the best, and look forward to more.
Couldn't agree more. Being part of an orchestra is an incredible experience and one of the best in my life. I'm far from being a professional but found a symphony orchestra 2 years ago with a professional conductor and players who never lost their passion for orchestra playing despite having other jobs. I'm so grateful I get to be a part of it and I hope we get to pick up our instruments anytime soon. It's heartbreaking that we had to cancel 5 concerts in the last year. I miss it.

The cyclic nature of this symphony is prevalent throughout. That’s just one of numerous examples, the clearest one being the primary theme of the first movement appears throughout all four movements.

I feel the same way you do. And we did fly to Frankfurt to see them perform live. And then we returned a year or so later to see them again. We’re now thinking of going again next year. They are, hands down, my favorite orchestra.
This is the first symphony I played after Almost 30 year hiatus from the violin. I am a singer and focused on that. Now, the community orchestra in my area has been a big part of my musical life.

I'll gladly sit corrected by commenters who know Dvořák's repertoire far better than I ever will, but I remain convinced after all the performances of this symphony I've both heard and seen that the composer aimed to do something very different with the final movement. He succeeded. The results are ageless.
A lot of new delicious sounds in this version conducted by Andrés Orozco-Estrada. Love the tempo, quite perfect. I have listened many others and now this is my favourite.
An this Orchestra, yes with capitals ORCHESTRA is truly outstanding. I can observe other musicians in the horns. Clara Andrada is not any more with her flute. But the sound is so great. Congratulations to everyone!!!
Agree with everything you said, except I thought Sebastian Wittiber was outstanding on the flute. This version is now my favorite, too.

Alvaro García You are right. She has been simply outstanding elsewhere, especially in the Nielsen piece.

This symphony has given me feelings I didn't know I had. Every time I listen to this recording, I end up in tears. Not many pieces bring tears to my eyes. So props to Mr. Andrés Orozco-Estrada and the Frankfurt Symphony Orchestra, you all did a fantastic job. God bless!

My goodness this is a fantastic performance. Utterly outstanding and brilliant German orchestra, and equally brilliant conductor. Also I must thank the sound engineers who have produced a sound they can be proud of.... I could hear absolutely everything... well done guys. I cannot wait to go to Frankfurt to hear my favourite orchestra, my heavens they are wonderful.

The New World Symphony is one that I never get tired of hearing, or playing. There's a reason it's such a war horse. It's simply a great piece of music, and I believe that even non-musicians recognize that fact. Magnificent performance here. Such a superb sound, and brilliantly played.

The build-up and climax are in my opinion second to none!!! I burst into tears, uncontrollably....... My congratulations for this orchestra, in my humble opinion, truly one of the Very Best Orchestras of the World!
That curly-haired Spaniard has to be one of the best orchestral conductors the human race has ever produced. He smiles and clowns around on the podium like he is totally unaware of his own greatness. But just listen to his results! The classical music world needs more people like this, and a lot less arrogant and angry old men.

I totally agree. I've heard this masterpiece so many times from different orchestras. This is probably the best of all. Not fast, not slow, perfect timing beautiful details. And it's probably silly for others, but I burst in tears quite a few times times during the four movements. The finale is just overwhelming
Favorite symphony ever, and imo the greatest. The second mvmnt is purely soul moving, I cant find the words to describe it. I’ve listened to this symphony countless times the past ten years, and I don’t think it will ever get old. Such good stuff here
The second movement is one of the great musical narratives. The sequence of events tells an amazing story of delight and transformation. It is hard to imagine that Dvorak's greatest moments of inspiration took place on 17th Street and Second Avenue.

Hey Frankfurt Radio Symphony, this was the best playing of Dvořák's 9th that I have ever heard, this video is awesome! I especially like the flute and clarinet solos in the first movement, as they are very clear and articulate in the ways they should be.
