- So coming from the Sony APS-C line, one of my favorite lenses has been the Sigma 16mm f 1.4 and today we try to see if it will work on the new Sony a7s iii Full frame camera and what it will take to make it work. we also compare it to the Sigma 24-70 and Sony 20mm f 1.8 for vlogging

One of the best videos about the sigma 16mm
Extremely useful video! Glad to know this lens still has a use as I upgrade to full frame equipment. To be fair, I still own my APS-C cameras, so I wouldn't have ditched it out (game changer APS-C lens IMO). That said, knowing there still might be a use on a full frame camera might help as I start to transition all my glass.
same here e:D
Great hack, it will help a lot of people who didn't even think about trying it out! And it's a nice light, sharp alternative. Thumbs up!
Especially if you already own the sigma trio set
So I think this is the best review of sigma 16 on FF camera! Much thanks!
Well done. I was really curious about this. Thanks!
Thank you for the demo!
Great video! This answered many questions I had!
On any of the other fullframe (non S ) Sony 7 series this lens will just go into super 35 mode and auto crop. So the 16 turns into a 24
Best review on the subject on RUclips 🎉
Appreciate that
The three lenses you showed here fire.
Fun fact. I just purchased the sony a7IV, you can do the same with the following:
sigma 30mm f1.4
sigma 56mm f1.4
sigma art 19mm f2.8
sony pancake 16mm and 20mm f2.8
sony 10-18mm
If you are doing video and you are using active stabilization you can use these lenses in full frame mode and have very low vignetting.
I believe you can also put it in super 35 “crop mode” and the lenses will work like a crop sensor camera
@@KyleWattsTV Yes. But the cool thing is using these apsc lenses in full frame mode.
Super useful video!! Thanks you so much!!
1.1 crop + night shoot, you could hardly tell the slight vignetting
Nice tip!! I have one in my B camera, i will test it on the A7sIII. Tnaks!
What do you think of the sigma 14mm f1.8 lens. Will you have the same problem at the edges of the image?
I currently use the 16mm sigma on a canon m50 and the image quality is incredible.
What do you think of the sony FE 14mm F1.8 GM?
Haven’t ever used the sigma 14mm so I can’t really have a say on it
Would love to see side by side comparison of following lenses on FF camera
- APS-C Sigma 30mm f1.4 on crop mode
- FF Sony 35mm f1.4 with focus breathing compensation
Guess technically it should be +- the same focal length with price difference 5 times.
Thank you so much
Thanks for info… great video
Danke für das Video, hat mir sehr geholfen. 😀
its enough to shoot indoor real state to get very wide angle or i need to get more wide lens
I’ll be using this on my a roll setup for my new youtube channel.
Is there an significant face warp? Compared to the 20mm sony?
thanks
Such a great video! Could also be a good option for the A7IV’s crop in 4K 60fps. Thanks!
Hey buddy! Can you please confirm on the statement that with this lens on a7s3 auto tracking will not work in 4k 30fps, 60fps and 120fps?? Cause I'm planning to shift from a6400 to a7s3 and i already have a Sigma 16 30 and 56mm
Great video, I'm trying to upgrade my camera, I currently have the Sony A6000, with a Sigma 16MM, Sigma 30MM and Sigma 56MM. Should I upgrade, also how much would I be able to sell this kit for? All is in great condition.
just got the a7r3 and this video is what o was looking for. jump from a6000 sigma 16mm 1.4
Just make sure you have super 35 set to auto and you shouldn’t have to do anything when you put the lens on.
Excellent video. Explained a lot. Very helpful indeed.Just One question. Why do others say that Sigma 16mm f 1.4 is actually f 1.8 in full frame. I can understand 16mm becoming 24 mm in full frame but why the aperture value is decreasing as well please.
There’s a lot of controversy on that topic. Most people say that sensor size doesn’t effect the Aperture but can make the depth of field look different
It's not that the aperture changes to f/1.8, its that the aperture calculation (and focal length calculation) that is used to claim "f/1.4" is a standard calculation based on full frame sensor size. An APSC lens does not get a different focal length or aperture calculation based on the size of the sensor. But when you crop a full frame image down into a 1.5 crop, the perceived focal length and perceived aperture (based on apparent depth of field) of the new image is 1.5x that of the original. A 16mm f/1.4 lens cropped looks like a 24mm f/2.1 if shot and composed the same on full frame. If Kyle were to have put the 20mm f/1.8 on the camera and then held the camera closer to him to create the same composed shot as he had with the 16mm on it, the depth of field would have been even thinner and the background blurrier than the 16mm, even though it's an "f/1.8" - this is because depth of field is directly proportional to distance from subject (which is the basic key to all of this). The confusion is that this is not because it's an APSC lens, because this phenomenon occurs on full frame lenses as well. If you crop mode the 20mm f/1.8 FE lens (full frame lens), you'll get an apparent 30mm f/2.7 lens result.
The aperture doesn’t change at all. It stays the same 1.4 will always be 1.4. The only thing that will change is the focal length.
How do i put the a7iii in active stabilization mode
Good video! Thank you!
The intro song made me sub lol
can i use Sigma 16mm for vlogging with a sony a7 iv?
Yes. You can either do the method I mentioned on the video or you can use the super 35 function in the a7iv which changes the sensor to a crop sensor (x1.5 crop) it would make the lens a 24mm equivalent
Please give know... Sigma 16mm or sony 18-105
impressive sigma 16mm f1.4 on an a7III at night wow
Go Kyle!
weird this trick doesnt work on A7s2. it doesnt crop when SteadyShot is on....
Thanks i saved my budget over 600$
Thank you for your share. Whenever I put this lens on Sony a7iii, it got lines on the screen. But it doesn’t have any lines if I put it on my Sony 6400. Are there any suggestions?
Make sure the a7iii is in super 35 mode.
@@KyleWattsTV Thanks for your reply. Would you mind to explain further? I'm a beginner so not quite sure about super 35 mode.
Thanks in advance
Cheers
Hanh from Australia
@@hanhuc259 @HẠNH ÚC Super 35 mode puts your full frame camera into a aps-c "crop mode" basically it only uses part of the sensor to match lenses meant for the aps-c cameras like the a6400. heres a video on how to set up the super 35 mode on the a7iii. ruclips.net/video/ypb_YACpc_E/видео.html
Thank you very much for the great overview!
Let me ask you a question. I bought a Sony ZV-E10 camera and I want to find the optimal solution with lens. My main task is to shoot yoga video lessons (distance from 3 to 6 meters), in a low-light studio. But I would also like to shoot outdoors (both photo and video material). Will this Sigma suit my interests or would you recommend another option for me?
Thank you in advance for your help!
do you have a sigma 30mm do a test on a 7siii
I do and it’s gonna be basically the same as the sigma 16 on the a7siii. You just have to use active stabilization and the vignette will be mostly gone
What vnd did u used for the sigma ? Somehow it’s now showing that X pattern which I usually get with wide angle lens
I use the polar pro Peter McKinnon vnd 82mm with a step up adapter
very nice 👌
🙏
@kyle watts I wonder if this is possible with the new Viltrox 13mm f1.4 apsc lens ... that would be even wider than the sigma 16mm.
Crop mode?
This guy is smart
Can you share some info on how well the Sigma worked on face/eye tracking in auto focus for video? @kyle watts
The sigma 16 lens has always been A+ on Sony cameras for tracking and focus.
First baby!! Lol 😂
If you ain’t first you’re last
@@KyleWattsTV or I am first to comment and last in the video LOL nice little text tracking you did there! Should have mentioned that EDU people can get the 20mm lens right now for like $620, pretty crazy deal. Great video dude!
