Wow! Just imagine all of the stupid fucking flash and trash crap you can create with this! I bet you're super stoked. Also, I'm sure MA will be really excited to hear your suggestions, I mean it's not like they have access to 100,000 other EDM trash LDs.
Found the Ion programmer 😂
Bro, the ion is good for theater stuff but not your fancy edm shows, the ions not that bad😎
What actually is flash and trash.. I always just pretend I know what this term means and assume fast pace busking haha
Carver ion is good for plays and musicals but can't handle anything more
@@FormatDub Flash and trash is just fancy lighting that distracts or makes things more interesting, it doesn't necessarily have to be busked
Nice job Christian. It's great that you understood our intended communication so clearly. We look forward to meeting you at Frankfurt.
Likewise! Thanks to you and the team for your hard work :) I cannot wait to get my hands on a 3 series, see you in Frankfurt!
Looking really nice straight out of the gate. There are definitely some things they took into account and applied in positive ways. I'm hoping they've made some nice software changes especially in the effects department... the little buttons next to the encoder wheels on the programming side immediately made me think they're for normal, fine and ultra adjustment modes. Will negate the need to tap the screen and hey might save a couple of seconds here in there when programming. The two theatrical dimmer wheels over by the faders are really interesting... Also, props to MA for the dedicated BPM key! Biggest thing they could do with regards to that is offer a bpm OR seconds option when assigning fade and delay times. Good video.
I'm presuming that with the X-Key, the bottom section can be activated by holding down [MA] and pressing an X-Key with an alternative function, such as Page or Macro as shown in the video. 15:00
CRV ( Control Room Version) is assuming, that the big monitors in front would simply block your view to the stage. So instead one would connect them externally and put them somewhere on the side. It's a form factor thing.
Awesome! Was thinking the MA3 would come out this year! A new console comes out around every 10 years it seems.
I’m guessing the CRV allows you to plug in your own touchscreens for permanent installs
Thomas Pendergrass i guess so,
I think its for like cruise ships or theaters where you sit down and can't look at the stage when the large screens are up so you can get your own screens and put them off to the side where you can still access them, but they don't bother you
I work at a Television Company in Germany, and think that the Control room version does make sense.
For example, in our Studio Enviroment often the "Intelligent Lights" (eg. LEDs, Movers) and the Conventionals are controlled seperately with one console each.
For Conventionals you wouldn't need those big screens. External one with Channel View works perfect. ;)
CRV is likely for booths where the regular MA3 would obstruct view of the stage and a more permanent installation
Christian I have a work around for fixture profiles on the fly. Most adroid phones can read a usb stick with some help from an app and an micro usb to full size female usb adapter. Not the best solution but it works
great review..
2:50 *turns off camera and starts crying*
awesome one christian! - crv might be for booths with preinstalled screens?
or if you have 2 consoles one at foh and one in a lighting booth would be my geuss
At 6:00 - my MA2 full size crashes during NYE in Nashville due to the cold. Two screens died as soon as it hit 12 degrees outside. Hopefully these guys can take a little more weather, heat and cold, cause there are gigs I do where I’d rather kill a Martin M-1 or Hog PC than my MA.
My concern with the new screen fold is touring I think at some point on a long road tour your going to get either broken buttons or cracked screens
Control Room Version is for theatres and corporate. The idea is you plug your own touch screens in and put them to the side, great for sitting at a desk and operating. My concern is its quite a bit cheaper so I hope people do not start making there own Flight Cases with cheaper touch screens built in.
Compact & Compact Xt although pricey are going to be great for mid scale touring. I plan to eventually buy one. It will be like the onpc setups a lot of people use now, but a complete unit. I see a lot of people using them as backup units to.
You have pricing information? Edit: Never mind, found it. The compact consoles are ridiculously expensive for what they are. Basically just a command wing with a touchscreen attached. It's $17,000 less without the integrated screen (and obviously need a PC host, but still).
The compact XT is a little better because of the extra faders and 2nd screen. Still high though. But I do see them being popular just because..
B.Jay yes, talk to your dealer...
wouldnt the CRV version be for installs in theatres etc so you have a CRT version below the view window of the control box, as if your cosole isnt going anywhere you can use external monitors of your choice without having the 3 screen sthat could block views in tv studios and theatres
I'll be sticking with MA2 till the first batch of consoles and software updates go out. I'm just excited my on pc node will work with the ma3.
I’m going to stay with ma2 until I have a really good grip with it and then I’ll try ma3. And I would really really really really really like your command wing😁
the "strange" buttons on the lower side of the 1080 screens in MA2 Mode are probalby for the encoders (more buttons/encoders need more screen space to label them)
I think the loss of the 4 X-Keys are ok if you can map every exec button below an fader to its own sequence/function, this way we gained more exec buttons
Do you think that the MA3 Command Wing will be usabble with the MA2 onPC Software? (maybe only with version 3.4 -> new Drivers), Consoles have an MA2 Mode but what about the onPC Hardware?
Niklas Aumüller I would guess that ma3onPc has the ma2 mode as well, so that you don't need compatibility with ma2onPc
I liked the idea of the CRV, until i was looking for external screen... I can't tell if it has a Display port or not and this worries me.
Don't quote me on this, I could be totally wrong, but MA might be switching over to the Vulkan API instead of OpenGL for video and visualization stuff. I remember hearing sometime back for the GMA2 that MA3D was supposed to run on the console no problem but were running into performance problems and they took it out and made it a separate thing. Apparently Vulkan is far less CPU bound than OpenGL, and when it does have to use the CPU it can more evenly split the load across cores instead of pegging cores 0 and 1. This leaves the CPU mostly open for DMX processing and the GPU takes care of 90%-ish of the visualization and video processing (and it's just overall more efficient).
6 years late, but the CRV is probably for use in control rooms without much space, so you can use external monitors mounted on arms instead of ones right up in your face so you don't have to stand up as much to see the stage or whatever, probably more of a theatre thing.
Pan and Tilt on the same encoder is unhinged
Did you buy a house since you got back from tour?
Christian Jackson Command Wing Giveaway! 😂😂
Is it running Magic Q? (Sorry i'm only using PC wing heh)
Hey Christian can I please find a way to get in contact with you
1:05 “we are going to fade to my screen here” *cuts to the screen
I mean I am an EDM programmer after all...
Nudgy tension intensified with every blackmagic worker
There are 8 additional rotary encoders ( also known as 'knobs' ) with push function, so the grandMA2 has 24 X-keys, that's 4 more than grandMA 2. And grandMA1 had no X-keys at all. It had 40 button executors ....
Well if you don't need your command wing anymore you could give it to me...
Or me
Or me
I was the first to ask ;-)
Gustav Mayer I sent it first thru Snapchat -.-
ohhh... :-(
I’m going to make the color grid in MA3
Our school needs a new board yet they wont pay for one. Me as the lighting technician cant afford one myself.
Ma 3 is pre ordered :D
Can you make another video of this? But dumbing it all down so we know what all this means? I’ve been doing lighting for 6 years and im still lost haha
And how much is the big prize of this beast?
Could I add a GMA3 OnPC wing to my GMA2 setup and get moving faders.....????
from what I read so far no you cant. the 3 does not support the old 2 hardware or vice versa
@christianjackson I heard the new effects engine is not going to be limited anymore to high and low values, the amount of values you can cycle through isnt limited anymore. Hope this one is true.. think of the possibilities!
nevermind, i watched the rest of the video lol
Maybe the CRV versions are for Guys who want to use their own monitors for example an ultra wide monitor.
Fabian Knuth ultrawide will probably not be supported. :P
Makes flying a space ship seem kind of simple...
Another point on the X keys, Why not place it at the bottom. It´s would be annoying to no be able to just rest your hand and press X keys (which I use a lot at live shows) and not be worried to press the go, MA and learn keys
The only "fear" I have, is that a lot companies won't change their ma2 and that the ma3 command wing is not backward compatible with ma2 onPc, so you can't use it for program a showfile that will run on ma2 console
you can export it for any ma3
So I won the MA2 101 course and am definitely gonna buy the 102 course, but do you think I should try to switch to MA3 as soon as it’s out so I’ll be focusing on the “future” rather than sticking with what I have and will have directly learnt on MA2?
Learn MA2. It will almost entirely apply to MA3.
Christian is absolutely correct. Plus the future doesn't actually pay your bills till it is the present. It will take a bit of time before MA3 becomes an industry standard. An since more and more I'm seeing MA2 in one form or another being the desk of choice you should definitely get to where you know the 2 like the back of your hand. That will make you more ready for that future focus when you transition to the 3.
It is my understanding the hardware will ship with MA2 software until "3" is ready
The videos from MA lighting show it is shipped with both. Select MA2 or MA3 OS at bootup.
Motorfader @ onpc
Finally, MA3 onPC will be on macOS as well!
Grant Kruger for backup and pre programming only.
I’ll take the onPC wing if you don’t want it anymore...
I'll just stay in the corner and wait for dot3!

You should give me your MA2 Wing ;)
It folds forward so it is still motorized
Can i get your MA2 command wing?
Yes www.christian-jackson.com/wing
GIVE ME THE OLD ONE PLEASE
When you dont need your onpc commandwing even longer you can give it to me XD
grandMA3 onPC for MAC!!!
I'm not even into lights why am I watching this
Hi! If you really don't need your MA on PC command wing anymore, well, you know... I need it. But, I'm really low on budget... So... If you'd be so generous...
3 dots2 connected together with adjustable screen, superficially. I am just kidding
