As someone who has owned an MA3 lite for over two years now I find your comments quite refreshing with regards to the software. MA and their distributors have a lot of work to do and need to listen to their wider community a lot better than they have in the past otherwise we will end up with a repeat of the Hog3. Please excuse me while I post my thesis on why I wish I had bought an MA2. While it is an incredible machine and the way forward in many different ways there are some key hardware and software changes that have disappointed me. Such as: The lack of second screen encoder The lack of screen arm USB (the one that is on the front panel to the far right will be the first thing to get damaged on most MA3s) The choice to reduce the executor buttons below the lower screen The choice to release a desk with Displayport outs (Locking connector good) but make them passive so no adapters easily work without special tricks forcing you to buy native displayport monitors. And especially the lack of snack draw or adapter draw at the front. I saw the desk range at Pro Light and Sound in 2018 (as you did) and I noticed most of these issues and still purchased the desk so thats on me to a certain degree. What I feel let down by is the direction development has gone with regards to the tone deaf responses to feature or bug requests. One thing that constantly annoys me in MA3 mode is the removal of the MA + 1,2,3 shortcut to change programming layers. Most suggestions I've made have been met with responses of "you'll learn to love it" and I totally disagree. That response is the reason why the ConsoleTraining channel has gone into nearly a two year hiatus. I have other projects that are more rewarding and right now I don't have the energy to deal with "Not Implemented" or "In a future version" I know Covid has caused us to lose two years of proper development time but I am very interested to look at the new Avolites offering. ALSO: Light Converse/L8 had the parameter free viz driver for MA2 before version 2.9 as well.
The Software side is something i really find hindering currently. There is no Double/HalfSpeed. So many other Keywords are missing as well. Shortcuts wich used to be there are gone. It feels like i'm more forced into a certain way of doing it. Wich allows for a greater depth of that feature, but it restricts my workflow. And so on. On the Hardware side there are all those issues you mentioned. The Front USB is something you could probably stick one of those miniature USB Sticks, wich have the size of a fingernail. At least there is the USB Slot next to the Keyboard. The X Keys are in a bit of a akward place as well. I get, why they are there, but i don't get why they had to have that function to need to go there. For all of the nice things they have done to the console hardware i can probably name a bad thing as well. We will have to see how that turns out.
I got the feeling that MA were already at the 'Hog 3 situation' stage. From the very start, if I'm honest. It happens. Avo had a similar situation when Titan was released, nothing was right, and they lost users at the time.

I’m glad someone finally acknowledged that it’s uncertain that MA3 will be the leading console like MA2 was. While MA 2 is a great console It’s gonna take a decent amount of time to tell if MA3 will be just as successful.
Ngl I had second hand shock when you said you bought the light, that's such a big investment but also, the opertunities and stuff you can now do will be worth it.
@@christianjackson can't imagine, I was shocked for a month after I bought my current zero 88 flx and that was only 2.4k which as far as consoles go is well, nothing.

Very much looking forward to seeing your self appointed task of programming the same show on both MA2 and MA3 and comparing the current process and limitations.
It's going to be a TON of work. Main priority is getting the show done in MA2 first obviously, but most of my downtime on tour will be spent recreating it on 3 with the ultimate goal of running a low risk show on it before the run is over :)
Looking forward to seeing the growth and development MA3 is going to have. Keeping fingers crossed the upcoming tour I'll be behind an MA3 so I can play around in 3 mode during downtime. Also, your RUclips profile picture should be slapped right on that case.
I'm sure you will give those developers at MA Lighting good feedback. Thanks for the great video and enjoy the adventures ahead of you with that grandMA3 console.
It's really inspiring to hear you talk about learning MA2 for years with mainly just onPC. I've decided that, after roughly ten years of finding lighting design fascinating, I should give it a try myself and am currently trying to learn MA3 on almost zero budget with the onPC-version as well. Maybe it'll stay a hobby, maybe it'll become a side job - no idea what the future brings! But seeing that someone else who's already up in the game starting outside the same gives me hope.
Nice use of the 360 degree camera in the loading the console into your car sequence. Interesting to hear your considered thoughts on why you bought the MA3. Hope you got a good deal on the console with getting on the ground floor on the MA3 development means that your subsidising it’s development when by your own admission it doesn’t do everything the MA2 does. Hope it all works out for you though.
this video reminds me of the Hog 2 to 3 transition, so much hope, and excitement at the possibilities... and yet in time and a bit of work on High Ends part the system is still being used...
18:24 love how you acknowledge your MA2 console like its a good friend, i do the same with my command wing, sometimes i get home, pat the wrist rests and say those exact words....lol, its hilarious you talking about not getting into lighting control early enough, at 38 years old and discovering how much i love this only 4 or 5 years ago, feels bad man, wish i woulda stumbled on all this 20+ years ago.
