Adam, you probably know this, but just in case, a white lure is always most productive for halibut. I commercially fished for 17 years (salmon/tuna) and any time I was on good halibut grounds and the fishing was slow, I would put on large white spoons on the bottom spreds and picked up many, many big halis. You should try a 4 or 5" spoon with or without the dodger. You seen to be getting your share now though. Continued good luck!

@moseskongi4746 you just need a commercial fishing license. The state sets a quota and doesn't matter who catches what. Once the commercial qouta is caught then commercial fishing must stop. For recreational fisherman having a commercial license isn't worth the cost.

Nice work. Hey I've been wanting to get into commercial fishing since I love fish and my skills have improved to the point that I can catch a lot more fish than I can eat. Does one need to purchase a year long license? I'm curious how the process goes. Hard to find the specifics on CDFW. Any tips would be awesome. I don't know, are you able to sell more fish if I give mine to you at a reduced rate once I get my license? I catch and cook a variety of fish on the California coast. I'm in Huntington Beach and I cast off the end of the Newport Beach pier. I catch lots of Spanish and Pacific Mackerel, Rockfish (Sculpin), kelp bass, spotted sea bass, Halibut, and also stingrays, and lizardfish occasionally. I can target big sculpin really well and that one seems to be popular in markets. Thoughts? Can I help you fish in any way?
    best,
    Ryan
