- After hearing a rumor that their might be some White Seabass in town, I cleared my schedule for the next 3 days with one goal in mind: Catch one of these elusive creatures from my kayak. Hello, master Die Hard, Garry here a once-professional fishing videographer and editor with Telly awards. ( Gary Boland - Ronnie Kovach's Fishing Ventures") Great WSB videos. I know that white sea bass are ridiculously hard to target. Yet you Die Hard double down by seeking to catch them locally in a kayak. You are a kayak fishing legend! Here is a little white seabass-catching secret you will never hear of anywhere else. Fish the local kelp beds with more than occasionally caught WSB. Anchor or drift in these small productive areas. Chum fresh small cuts of squid consistently. The little bait fish eating the squid will bring in the WSB to your kayak, Keep your whole baits soaking and be ready for the raid of big WSB coming to you.
Adam, I wish to thank you for your videos I watched probably 50 from the archive. I very much appreciate your humility. You are very open in discussing your mistakes. You are also very open in discussing the baits and techniques that you use, this is very valuable information. Thank you for sharing. I especially appreciate the respect you show your audience. Well done.
Thanks for watching!
Freaking awesome catch
Congrats Adam, I knew you could pull it off. What a battle, good size one too! I didnt see any small ones in the drone footage 😥😥
Haha, taku must have seen the same school.
I bet 😂
I think so!
That drone footage is insane
Love the patience on the white bass, Congratulations that’s an awesome fish 🤙🏼
Congrats Adam! Awesome vid and loved the aerial of the schooling fish!
Sick fish bro! Grew up catching them out of Redondo Beach, fishing off Palos Verdes and Catalina Island back in the late 80s early 90s. One of my favorite fish to catch and eat, they’re delicious. Glad you knew about the otoliths too. Vermillion have decent sized ones as well, and I know you catch them every now and then. Stoked for you, must’ve been epic on the yak! Nice work brother! 🤘
Thanks!
Loved to hear about the planning and stalking that went into sight fishing and landing such an elusive fish. I targeted white seabass inside a very special harbor near the bait receiver with live squid and got some just legal seabass but realized they were being handfed by the bait receiver guys so I stopped catching their pets! Love how you specfically target certain species on you episodes.
You are a bad ass! Great to see such a good fisherman like yourself with humility. A true sign of confidence.
Congrats Adam! Really nice fish! I used to catch those big croaker on sport gear down in Cali under a light at night, backside of Catalina. They love squid...
Can you tell them to get away from my hooks? Lol they don’t leave me alone
Great fish Adam! Congrats!
that's a nice one, we caught that big ass one last year everybody was talking about on a long line hoochie setup lmao
Fantastic fish Adam. Tried for one on the Central Coast fishing on a boat out of Port San Luis. Up in the bay area at the weekend🐟
Man I’m so happy you got your Sea Bass, I was pulling for you so hard!👍🔥💪🏼
Let’s get @diehardfishing to 100k!!
Thanks for the good vibes!
That was great footage and a great fish. Glad California was able to bring them back from the brink.
You can see the school swim right behind the kayak at like 21:10, so cool congrats.
Finally!! I get to see you stalk and catch a White Sea Bass!! So hard to do! I knew if anybody could do it would be you with your kayak!! Thanks for showing us Birds Eye view of them in their environment!! Completely awesome!!! Rare. You did great!!!
Amazing. Definitely one of, if not the best video you've ever made.
The way you built up the excitement, I really felt like I was there. Great work.
Thanks!
Congrats Adam , good fight , i take my Yak to king harbor and paddle out about 30 minutes toward the pier and catch them on dropper loop with 2 dead squid at the first light .
Yeah nice fish !
I used to also fish the backside of Catalina on live squid in the 80s lost a big one caught a few near 20lbs wish the big one didn’t get away !
Thanks great drone footage !
Daaaam! Nice wsb Adam. And yeah, on a pretty small hook. Congrats man. ✌️😎🎣
Way to go Adam!! Just watching that was exhilarating!
If you hook up and get snagged in kelp. Saw away with that braided line. Kelp will feel like it popped. May have to go through a few stringers.
Nice, you’re probably going to mention this in the video but before I watch the WSB is in the same family as croaker and corbina… they are referred to by elders as California King Croakers sometimes and I didn’t know what they meant at the time 🍻
Also if you use 🦑 use a light egg sinker knocker rig of an orange jig head 5/8 or so and let the squid slow flutter to the bottom…
It’s a go to method in SoCal 🍻
We used to call em Croakers out of Redondo.
Nice Fish .... We fish for Stripers on the East coast and ours go 20 to 50 lbs... They are Bulls...Fun to catch in the surf..Thank you
In the 1920-1990 we had lots of big strippers on the beaches of San Francisco, now just a few are caught in the surf now, I fished the surf in the sixties to nineties, thanks!
And you thought steelhead fishing required a lot of casts lol!!! congratulations on the nice bass
Ha,someone beat me to the punch. I watched Taku's video first so I knew he failed, but you succeeded. Nice job of patiently working that horse out of the kelp.😊
I watched all 3 videos, ChrisPfish, Taku, and yours! Awesome tug!
Wow, on the last squid too! Awesome video.
I have a mason jar full of the Ear bones that I have collected over the years. I was thinking of making a necklace too.
You are such an inspiration! Thank you for such an educational video. I always learn something and hope to one day get the confidence to offshore in my kayak!
Incredible experience. Catching it on video, priceless.
Hey have you ever tried using a balloon to keep your bait up near the top. Curious
Best video I felt like I was fighting the ghost with you hahah. Such an elusive and majestic fish. Good stuff Adam 👏
Dude you and Chris are my fishing heros. Thanks for the video
Way to go Adam! The "ghost of the coast!"
Woohoo congrats! I would be so scared to hang fish off the side of the kayak knowing Mr. Snarky can be lurking around
LoL I always hookup on a birds nest cast too. love it, thanks for the vids man
Never fails! Haha
Wow - what a great video and a great fish! I have fished from my kayak in SoCal for those and, while hooking some, have yet to catch a keeper. But they are a beautiful fish!
I really love seeing kayak fishing videos. I hope I'll get a kayak myself one day but at my age and with my health, I don't know if I'll be able to. Anyhow, great exciting video. Keep them coming
Thanks for watching! Maybe some day I’ll see you out there!
I was out there yesterday, 8/31. Initially taking advantage of the nearshore Rockfish before closing it. Went into the kelp with some live mackerel. So much fun! I got one on. I couldn't steer or reel on it. Broke off on 20lb fluoro leader. Welp, will come back with 50lb fluoro leader next time...
Congratulations!
Taku didn’t catch one when he went out a couple of days ago. He caught and used lots of live squid.
Wow! Adam, what a haul, nice F$%*ing work! That was awesome, great work, congratulations on that beauty bass.
What a Siikk battle ! Great job!
Very nice job Bro.....Loved the overhead video footage.....Congrats on the PB!!
Beautiful. In australia we call them Mulloway, they grow up to 100lb. We catch them in 2 foot of water in estruaries aswell as on surf beaches and sometimes i nthese sorts of conditions. Very cool to see.
We call them Silver ghosts
Inspiring me to hop on the yak asap!! lol
I enjoy your videos and would appreciate it if you could briefly talk about terminal tackle when you switch out. Thanks
AWESOME job man! I need to target some WSB this year! I’ve had a few battles like that with Yellowtail in the kelp down here in SD. Keep up the good work!
SCZ surf caster, EV, was that area and the WSB guru. They're always in kelp beds. Maybe when Squid spawn?? Catching any big fish in they're environment is never an easy chore.
Congratulations. PB? Definitely try getting out before sunrise and bait is the way to go. Most of mine have been caught in the dark.
Not quite a pb but it’s my biggest from a kayak!
Grew up in San Francisco...fished all my life...in Ireland again 7plus years
Great video Adam. Will try to go out Sat.
Good luck!
Hey Adam, have a question..
You don't worry about sea lions, or maybe even a shark grabbing your stringer on the side of the kayak??
I used to keep fish on a stringer, but one time in the Delta, a huge sea lion grabbed the biggest striper on the stringer, and pulled my 18' boat in a complete 180 upriver!! Lol
Just wondering, since you're in a kayak..
I do worry about that. That is why I carry a kill bag to keep my fish in after bleeding them out for a couple minutes
@@DieHardFishing Right on. Stay safe out there, and keep up the good work!
Awesome video. Nice to see the battle. Grey ghost.
Great vidio, action and information. You done good again, Adam.
Take the ear bones to the Carlsbad Lagoon Sea Bass Research Facility they'll tell you the age..Nice Work man🤝
Congratulations. The ghost is no longer. Tuna time!
Did you make the floating bait holders or buy them?
Well done! They are strong.
Congratulations, the white sea bass looks delicious 😋
It was!
Very nice! Thank you for sharing!
Great fight and catch, Adam! 💪🐟
Amazing footage!
Awesome job bro👏🏽👏🏽🍻
It would Suck to fall in the kelp. Great Whites live there in numbers!
Inspirational bro. Respect 🫡 ✊🏾
Such a nice fish Adam - good job
Nice fish man. Sea bass is very good tasting.
good job
Takes stones to fish that big water in the yak. More power to ya brudda.
Nice Fish bro , good work👍.
Epic catch Adam!!!👏👏👏
Can you keep a White Sea bass or halibut for personal consumption if fishing off a registered commercial boat/kayak?
use a dab of super glue gel on the swimbaits between the leadhead and tail, you will hook more fish.
Thanks for the tip!
Congratulations Adam!!! 😊👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
I want to see this done with a bobber rig lol
Caught two huge smelt similar to that size while trolling on my paddle board with the battle star 115
Phenom fishing! WTG Adam!
Adam, thanks for the great vids. BTW, haven't seen anything from Fishermans Life. Is he OK?
Nice bass ,You always fishing the same area?
Cool video man👏🎣
Awkward picture to take plus good catch for the masters of the in shore Boast to Boast cheers🍺🍸
Was this in the bay awesome video
You should do a collab with Greg Blanchard and do some bass fishing on the California delta
WHat Australians call a mulloway(sp?) I think? Cheers man, you live up to your handle!
Bro the intro and music legittttt
So was he trolling/fishing if depth close to the surface?
thats a nice fish congrats..
Long badass fisherman had me bitting my nails
As always great videos Adam
First time watching your videos and they are really good and I'd only do you keep the fish and try to make a living but you also keep some and eat them that's the meaning of fishing I will be checking your videos out keep up the good work brother
Edge of my seat man, that waa awesome!
Heel yeaahhh. Congrats man.
Nice fish. I have only caught one legal one, years ago off Laguna Beach. They were not a common catch on the half day boat. Otoliths of Pacific Cod are large and very nice as well. I had access to bunches of them,... should have collected more in the Bering Sea.
I caught a juvenile WSB in San Diego bay, maybe 10-12”.
A future giant!
Awesome! Get them ghost!
What a Battle!
Congratulations Die hard fishing!!! You should sell sale Sea Bass
